Fuel now is crap—lost a little over 1 mpg on last tank, overall from before the ultra low sulfur to now it’s around 4 to 5 mpg. That’s with all the little extras to squeak out every mpg.
Had a 225 mile trip yesterday fuel cost was $65 bucks, makes it tough to make any money, almost stay ahead by turning down the job, not an option as am only tech in S FL.

Exactly! I needed a new faucet in my kitchen, I bought one and installed it. It was advertised that it was energy efficient. This was about 5 years ago and I didn’t think anything of it. Then one day reading a flyer on a Sunday morning I saw the same faucet being advertised. I then noticed that it said it uses 30% less water! I thought about that for a minute. Then I said to my wife check this out! How stupid is this? If it uses 30% less water, then it means that it will take 30% more time to fill up the coffee pot!
Now that means my well pump is running 30% longer! How is this efficient? A gallon of water is still a gallon of water! WTF. Same thing goes with the 55MPH driving. It will take longer to get to your destination! How stupid do they think we are?

That number of days assumes all refineries in the US cease to produce today. it is likely to be a trend. Accoring to the EIA, refinery capacity in the US is down by 806,000 barrels of oil per day, which means that diesel production is down. Couple that with No 2 heating oil (used in homes) is the same product as diesel and people in the NE and upper US are now filling or have just filledtheir tanks, brings us to a real situation that could put rationing on the map for diesel at least.

I live in S. Jersey. A new Gulf station opened up about a month ago. The station was an independent one before it shut down due to leaking tanks. Anyway it opened at $3.13 per gallon! Stayed that way for a week then started going up. Now a month later it’s the same as every other station.
BTW I filled up 5 5gallon gas cans while it was $3.13.

Three days ago it was $3.49 in S.Jersey. Today it’s close to $4.00! Supply and demand. He never ever mentions that! The price came down cause people adjusted how they drive and the demand ropped so the price came down. School has started and now more people are driving. That isn’t the only factor but it’s a good part of it. This diesel thing is making me worried.
Give it another ten days, and the diesel prices will be at or very close to $10/gal.

One thing I’ve noticed, at the usual truck stops I historically frequent, is prices have spread to the wind without rhyme or reason. They’re all over the place. Some usual stops are inverted, where the CA price and OR price have swapped (usually OR is a buck or so cheaper) and others not. I’ve also noted much higher diesel prices on the OR coast, something that never existed in my time here prior. Core and coast prices were always within a dime or less.
Anyway, depending on truck stop, diesel is currently running high fives to mid sixes per gallon with the places I frequent, about the same as in late July of this year.
