Mikhael Gorbachev was the leader of the Soviet Union from 1985 until its collapse in December 1991. As general secretary and president of the USSR/Russia, he helped forge historic weapons reduction deals with former U.S. Presidents Reagan and Bush and eventually removed the “Iron Curtain.”
According to Russian media, he died earlier today at the age of 91.
The “Iron Curtain” came down because of President Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and JP2.
And the potential benefits to the World from that event, were DELIBERATELY squandered, by the same people that are perpetuating the Ukraine tragedy.
That very year Darth Cheney pronounced the imperative to decolonized Russia and seize her assets.
Same people, same greed driven war.
A shriveled malevolent soul then as now.
Wasn’t Cheney – unless you have a source for your information?
Wasn’t not Cheney, unless you have a source for your dismissal.
I read it here.
Best reply ever.
You are not wrong, but stepping on graves only gives comfort to the liberal media instead of our cause of the MAGA need to advance. I fear your comments will be another instance of hating when someone is down and I really dont care about appearances, but please respect and pray for the families of the lost. I know some of them were and are hateful, but Jesus taught us to love even those transgressors. Hard to do in life while they transgress us on a daily basis, but we can all honor the dead with respect if we try.
Alas, it becomes harder to mourn the dead when we never avenge them.
Mark Steyn
Profound
He is universally disliked by the older generation who blame him for the fall .of the USSR.
Not true, I’m 70 and I was able to escape from USSR back in 1989 thaks to Gorby’s policies. He was far from perfect like most of us but a start contrast to previous politbureau chairmans. May he rest in peace
Mark never misses. He’s the finest wordsmith working today. Not bad for a man with no university education…but a rather good grammar school one.
Don’t really see how he was stepping on any graves. Just seemed to be stating we pilfered away a golden opportunity to reshape the world.
Indeed.
The only persons critiqued were those that failed to build on the man’s accomplishments.
That would be duh West.
You gonna honor and respect Xiden and crew when they kick the bucket? I’m not.
And to think that FJB will be attended to and buried with Presidential honors. Sickening.
Well it’d be epic and I’d watch if PDJT was presiding in his rightful role.
I imagine the mysterious envelopes would have handcuffs in them.
I completely agree with that.
Well having actually been in the cold war – i do think Clinton should have done much more – to get the Russians on their feet and into the Western fold. There is a book out their i want to read – don’t know the name – about how we inflicted the Russians with our wall street – and they piled on debt so high – it was all doomed to fail. Putin knows the story – and he hates our political for it.
Yes, I could never understand why we didn’t try to befriend them the way we did Japan and Germany after WW II. Old man Bush and Baker—for all their faults—would have been much better at establishing cooperation than the neo-libs who came in with the Clintons. The latter sowed distrust and aroused a real animus in the Russian people, who frankly should be our allies against China.
Klinton and Boosh one are one and the same, bed fellows in drug and gun running through Mena Arkansas
Then who would we scapegoat to inflict fear, loathing and fake wars on the citizens and subsequent money laundering and power grabs? Operation Gladio, Gladio B
Now it’s our turn.
You have vivid memories, G, I know, being as you were in the USSR backyard. I’m so glad you’re here, my dear friend.
Oh that we had true leaders of the caliber today such as the three you mentioned…sorely and grievously missed.
And for that I have to thank the 3 persons that I mentioned.
Thank you, dear sister in Christ. Have I told you that for a couple of years, until the Curtain fell I had dreams that I was back in the “communist paradise”. Every time I’d wake up with such a relief. Once the Curtain fell the dreams stopped.
No, you’ve never said. But I can only imagine how vivid and terrible they must have been.
I’ve had dreams where upon waking the relief was overpowering, so that I have experienced, and that at least I do understand only too well.
I am so glad they stopped.😘
😍
And the Democrats weren’t happy, because it was done by a Republican President. So, now they have created another Cold War with Russia by Blaming them for all our problems, that the Democrats have created with their own stupid policies!
Democrats hate Russia because Russians are no longer communists and Democrats are.
Thank you for mentioning President Reagan, PM Margaret “Maggie” Thatcher, and Pope John Paul II.
God rest their souls. What a wonderful time to be alive, and the whole world owes each of them gratitude.
🙂
I pause and contemplate this occasionally. I still marvel that three individuals on this planet of 7 billion souls changed the world forever, and that I was alive during that time and witnessed it first-hand. I had front-row seats, being stationed in Germany with President Reagan as my Commander in Chief.
That is what the western pundits and media want you to think. There is as much credence to the idea that Russia itself felt it was no longer politically or economically feasible, and wanted out.
It was Pope John Paul II. He used the Vatican Bank to end communism in Poland. He worked with Lech Walesa and Solidarity.
Death for family is always hard. I know political figures have transgressed us all in some form or fashion. I hope he made peace and his soul will be accepted into heaven. I can hope and pray, but only he knows if he repented before he died and only we can pray for the forgiveness on his behalf.
While some say hopes and prayers are useless, I hope that good will and prayers give you some comfort in your time of loss.
John, you are a good man.
Russia is a very Christian today. God must be pleased with that!
Gorbachev ushered in peristroika and glasnost.
He took the first steps to change his country. Even Vaclav Havel told President Bush the best thing he could do would be to encourage Gorbachev in making the changes that were to transform the then Soviet Union.
And while I’m sure there will be those who excoriate him, I will say requiescat in pace, Mr Gorbachev.
RIP, Mr. Gorbachev.
He was a vast improvement over the old Soviet guard.
A long way to go yet…God willing.
Agreed. All I can add is that I hope that when the USA collapses the current leaders are not around and people with great wisdom and courage are in positions of power in Russia, China and India!
It was an extremely dangerous time and Mr. Gorbachev acted wisely.
May the wise leadership continue in Russia!
Mr. Gorbachev wasn’t the ‘shoe pounder’ type. He actually wanted peace.
Indeed. What he was yelling as he pounded that shoe was “Defense is moral! Offence is immoral!”, a reference to his philosophical objection to the “Mutually Assured Destruction” plan, which would outlaw defending against incoming missiles.
Here’s to old M Gorbachev, master of the rope a dope. The head fake allowed the Soviets time to regroup. Did communism disappear when the curtain came down? I believe to many on this site have bought the bridge. The Russians have struck alliance with the Chinese, reclaimed there nuclear capabilities and built a larger and more dangerous atomic weapon arsenal. All while the west went to sleep. There aggression will continue until we face the reds in direct military confrontation. Don’t interpret my thoughts with backing Ukraine. Our poking the bear may end in direct confrontation. All while we reduced and neglected our nuclear capabilities. The Russians are deviant the same as our own Justice department and FBI.
You’re pretty close with your assessment patrick g.
However, having been in the USN under Nixon, Ford & Carter, I can tell everyone here, the, “wall came down,” because America had become more like the union of socialists. Just the same as WWII did not end fascism.
FDR was as fascist as was Hitler and El Duce’ as was Woodrow Wilson.
America has been on the road toward its brand of ‘Democratic Socialism,’ long before the current move toward a “New World Order”. FDR’s fascism prevailed during and after WWII. There were vast similarities between US policy here and abroad post WWII. The (Cold War) was merely the same Fascism v Marxist communism battle that guided Hitlers war against Russia.
There’s plenty of history to demonstrate this and the result of all of this is pretty clear today. It also goes a long way in understanding the political division we see in America even now. None of this just began in the 90’s.
I always think of that great movie- Citizen X- a true story about a prolific serial murderer in Russia. They didn’t allow it to be properly investigated until the fall of the wall. Fascinating story and film about some of the challenges before and after.
It’s one DVD in my collection…Stephen Rea is great.
Reminds me of the time he sent KGB thugs to club Ukrainian coal miners over the head with shovels in 1989.
Mr. Gorbachev. Tear down this wall
And within the limits of his powers, he did. Could have gone the other way. Those were interesting times.
God speed, sir.
Hands reached out for peace between Reagan and Gorbachev, and they made the world a better place.
We need two like those now, more than ever.
Well then … he won’t be one of the many many candidates suggested to replace Putin … eh?
The internet has had a lot of “scrubbing ” since Russia – “military conflict” with Ukraine.
The next Presidential election for Russia coincides with ours-2024.
Just the names of the parties that had candidates for President their last election—Scary.
I haven’t heard/read if Putin is going to run again.
It’s ok if Putin does. W looked into his soul and could tell he’s a good man.
OH!! And Barry Sotero just needs some time until after the election and can then work more back room dealings with the fellow criminal.
Another vote for Bien in 2024
We used to call him “Jelly Spot”.

Well worth the read.
With no disrespect intended, Robin Williams (Live at the Met) referred to Mr Gorbachev’s cranial birthmark as a ‘map of Albania’. May they both rest in eternal peace.
I’ve never forgotten that Teddy Kennedy was in contact with KGB head and then premier Andropov during Reagan’s first term. Teddy was coordinating with Andropov on how best to undermine President Reagan’s defense and economic initiatives to squeeze the Soviet bloc. Teddy was a quisling of the Leftist cadre that now dominates the United States.
Ted Kennedy’s offer to Yuri Andropov to subvert American policy under Reagan:
“Special Importance Committee on State Security of the USSR 14.05.1983 No. 1029 Ch/OV Moscow
Regarding Senator Kennedy’s request to the General Secretary of the Communist Party Comrade Y.V. Andropov Comrade Y.V. Andropov
On 9-10 May [1983], Senator Edward Kennedy’s close friend and trusted confidant J. Tunney was in Moscow. The senator charged Tunney to convey the following message, through confidential contacts, to the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Y. Andropov:
Senator Kennedy… is very troubled by the current state of Soviet-American relations. Events are developing such that this relationship coupled with the general state of global affairs will make the situation even more dangerous. The main reason for this is Reagan’s belligerence, and his firm commitment to deploy new American middle range nuclear weapons within Western Europe. …
Kennedy believes that, given the current state of affairs, and in the interest of peace, it would be prudent and timely to undertake the following steps to counter the militaristic politics of Reagan and his campaign to psychologically burden the American people. In this regard, he offers the following proposals to the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Y.V. Andropov.
[the letter goes on to enumerate all of Kennedy’s media strategies and political schemes to help the Soviets against Reagan.]
Kennedy asked to convey that this appeal to the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union is his effort to contribute a strong proposal that would root out the threat of nuclear war, and to improve Soviet-American relations, so that they define the safety of the world. Kennedy is very impressed with the activities of Y.V. Andropov and other Soviet leaders, who expressed their commitment to heal international affairs, and improve mutual understanding between peoples.
The senator underscored that he eagerly awaits a reply to his appeal, the answer to which may be delivered through Tunney. …
We await instructions.
President of the committee V. Chebrikov”
He lived a very long life for a Russian like eq 120 years in the US.
The globalists shunned President Reagan and gave Gorbachev the Nobel peace prize. Then came Obama and he got one for nothing.
Word
console yourself with this great quote that I believe Reagan lived by,
“It’s amazing what you can get done when you don’t care who gets the credit.”
YES. it was Reagan who gave us a, “Peace Dividend” that Bush and Clinton both pissed away.
Also, it was Bush-41 who had an opportunity to severely weaken the CCP, perhaps destroy them in 1989 – and didn’t!
Q: How did we go from Reagan to 0bama in just 20 years? A: one word answer, BUSH! … That’s Why Trump.
That shows the true value of that prize ; nothing.
less than nothing.
He was gifted with great capacity and great responsibility. I hope the commie bastard found Jesus and repented, accepting eternal life. We will know someday soon. My hope is he’s one of us and not burning in sulfur and worms with Teddy Kennedy.
Had an hour meeting with Gorbachev’s national security advisor Arbatov when the gang came to DC in late 1987 for a summit with Reagan. Arbatov told me a joke Gorbachev always laughed at: Both Reagan and Gorby had passed on and were sitting on a cloud reading the newspaper. Gorbachev leans into Reagan and says, “Look, Ron. The US has elected its first communist president.” Reagan grunts, clearly upset at the news after all of his years as a staunch anti-communist. But then he smiles, “Ah, Mike. Look at this story: Border fighting erupts anew between Finland and China.”
Makes me wonder who Obama will send to the funeral.
Did I say Obama? I mean Biden. But I repeat myself.
Kamala can give Word Borscht
Obama should go.
Someone has to represent the old Soviet Union.
A very iconic figure and possible the right person for the right moment. God bless him for opening up Russia with glasnost and perestroika. It’s a pity that that the walls were collapsing around him and was swept aside in all the ruckus. RIP.
Gorbachev peacefully let the captive eastern European nations go in 1989 and after. A different kind of man would have created a bloodbath. He deserves credit for dealing with a very difficult national and international situation honorably and with a vision for a better future for all.
Gorbasms: Always Fake – Rush Limbaugh loved to comment on news relating to Mikhail Gorbachev:
“December 7, 1987, a cold, overcast day. Windswept Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington. Gathered on the tarmac are some two-thousand people, invited guests of the President, White House, and State Department, with members of the media. All are filled with anticipation, bubbling over with enthusiasm. All ready to explode with sheer joy and happiness. Because HE is coming.
“Suddenly a shout goes up from the crowd: ‘There it is!’ An Ilyshin 62 jetliner (technology stolen from Boeing?) is on the final approach.
“As the plane lands, thunderous applause erupts from the huge gathering, and as it taxies in, the anticipation are almost too much for the crowd to bear. Because HE has come. HE is the one man who can save the world from every evil known to man. (And, unknown)
“After the plane taxies to a stop, heavy breathing is heard. The door opens. Moments pass as there is movement, but no discernible face.
“Then, finally — when the crowd can wait no longer — HE appears. Mikhail Sergyevich Gorbachev, with that birthmark on his forehead. This man who single-handedly is going to nullify the dangers posed by Ronald Reagan, decends the steps and, walking on a red carpet, approaches the microphones. A giant screamand another burst of applause erupt from the crowd. The Beatles never had it so good. And there, the very first Gorbasm in the history of mankind occurs, as people can no longer contain their euphoria. Mikhail Gorbachev was credited by the media and many liberals with preserving peace and security of the planet threatened by that warmongering Ronald Reagan . . .”
Excerpt from Rush Limbaugh’s book “The Way Things Ought to Be”
So why do liberals hate Russia so much now, when they loved it so much then?
May Mikhail Gorbachev rest in peace.
Yes, Gorby was an improvement over Yuri Andropov.
But he was still a commie.
And Andropov dropped off.
always loved that Rush played the ‘Empire’ music from “Star Wars’ whenever talking about Gorby.
Rush’s point was always, – HOW did he get to the Top of the Kremlin? Make No Mistake, he is a Communist!
— it was proven by how he tried so desperately to keep the Empire together in 1991.
The birthmark shaped like North America – Rush
We all have to pass through the veil. Despite who he was, he still improved the system in his country under the yoke of it.
RIP, Sir.
I didn’t know he was still alive.
Before the Ukraine eruption I enjoyed watching some of the videos posted by Russians like Dan and Suzi Sheekoz and their baby Sati.
In some ways the Russia in their videos looks more like America than a lot of places in America today.
I believe that may be a Gorbachev legacy.
I’m glad he’s an historical footnote. The media loved this clown, and I’m glad Reagan walked out on him at Reykjavik. In doing so, Reagan changed the world.
Any time a communist dies from that era, I say a prayer and offer up a toast to Ronald Wilson Reagan.
Then, I find a copy of the New York Times and use it to clean up dog s&&T from
the lawn.
The media idolized this Commie more than they hated our President. He was on the Time Magazine cover over 10 times.
In the late 90s my husband and I attended an event where we had the honor of meeting Mr. Gorbachev and his wife. It was not a big gathering, maybe 100 people or less.
He was speaking for about 2 hours, answered numerous questions. No notes, no teleprompter, just him, an interviewer and a translator. I was very impressed.
RIP
Well, that is one person I am pretty sure didn’t die from the vaxx.
“I want the new closeness to continue. And it will, as long as we make it clear that we will continue to act in a certain way as long as they continue to act in a helpful manner. If and when they don’t, at first pull your punches. If they persist, pull the plug. It’s still trust by verify. It’s still play, but cut the cards. It’s still watch closely. And don’t be afraid to see what you see.”–Actual President Reagan
When this Occupation Government stole my voice and my vote to install themselves in power, they declared me as less than a citizen. A non-person. A dis-American.
And now I declare them the same. They are Un-Americans, and by their own criminal choices. They went from being my political opponents to being my enemies. Not Putin. Not Russia. This Concertina Crime Syndicate they call a government.
I love my country. But this criminal regime is not my country. I owe this Gangster Rebellion no loyalty, only “eternal hostility” as Jefferson put it.
There is no “we”. There is no “us”. There is no “president”. Just a retarded criminal, a decomposing puppet, a shell of a shell of a broken man. In fairness, though, everyone knows he runs nothing.
And this one will not stand either.
Found in the bin…. 🙁
But not the Dustbin!
Thanks 😉
Well said. That’s pretty much how I feel. Thank you.
Great pic…
I remember when gorbachev was interviewed on larry king right after Clinton started the kosovo war to divert public attention from his story with Monica lewinsky, and Clinton bombed Belgrade, and Gorbachev was very upset in that Larry King interview! because he felt these actions by Clinton seriously damaged all the efforts Gorbachev had made to create a raprochement, a better relationship and warmer understanding between NATO and Russia and between NATO and the former soviet countries
I remember talking to my secretaries’ younger sister, high school senior at the time. What she had been taught about Gorbo was incredible. A real George Washington figure to hear it from her.
Gorbo was one of the troika of apostles brought to prominence by the very evil Andropov. Romanov and Aliyev (Heydar) were the other two. Gorbo was selected as someone who could con the west. He was good at it too.
