I mean the support bureaucracy that was set up to oversee and maintain them, the fact that that bureaucracy gets to see the tax returns of the people who took them? I am what I consider upper middle class. When my wife and I were first married I was military with 2 years of college and she had just completed her 4 year teaching degree. After a year of marriage she started working on her Masters and it took 2 years for her to get. Add a kid and me taking a course every quarter to finally get my two year degree but I still had a dead end job. She started working on her Specialist degree and it took 18 months to get it when she was 8 months pregnant with child number 2. Six months latter I quit my job to go back to school full time. We sold our house and moved 100 miles away where she got a job teaching for two years and I took maximum loads maintaining a 3.5 GPA for an IT degree using my GI Bill and working 20 hours a week for a minimum wage job – the only time I ever worked minimum wage. We incurred no educational debt and I had a degree that was marketable.
We made decent money where we put money away for our kid education. About the same amount I was throwing into my 401K. When my daughter went to college I was able to pay for a BS in Genetics and a MS in Biology and buy her a car with a little change left over from her college investments. My son was on the 5 year program and went to a little more expensive school but I was still able to buy a new car for his graduation with a BS in Business.
I have paid for 2 Masters, 1 Specialist, 1 Associate of Arts, and 3 Bachelors of Science degrees in fields that were in demand without incurring any educational debt. My children are very grateful that they could start their carriers debt free with a new car when their friend were in debt to their eyeballs. My daughter used to complain when the family vacation was 2 weeks on her grandparents farm during sweet corn harvest when she was a teenager. Now in her early 30’s she has friends that would have the extravagant vacations in high school that had to finance their college that are struggling to make their college loan, house, and car payment. She is still driving the 2011 graduation C30 Volvo (it was cheaper than a base Mustang) that now has 165K miles on it. The car has been well maintained and is capable of a cross country trip. She plans to drive it another 5 or 6 years.
The idiots that got an education loan for a worthless degree while having a thousand dollar cell phone and a high end car need to pay their own debts. Those that are working as bartenders and baristas with college debt will always be in debt as they are not smart enough to pour water out of a boot with the instructions printed on the bottom.
The entitled will be the first to die. I am grateful for that.

Has it occurred to anyone that the student loan forgiveness may be more than just about ‘buying’ votes???
Suppose the Democrats, Administration, DS knows or reasonably believe that the market and economy is about to crash and loans of all sorts will have a monumental increase in defaults.
Now, how does defaults affect the credit markets, ie ability of financial institutions to loan more money? The defaults stymie the financial institutions ability to loan more because it affects the amount of reserves and its corresponding ratios required to make new loans.
Solution: government (taxpayers) bail out an entire class of loans of such a massive value that those reserves/ratios needed to prop up the credit markets stay somewhat solvent.
A ‘back door’ tax on Americans to prop up the banks just like 2008/09 except indirectly and a deflected reason to make it look like it’s about the students.

The thing people are 100% missing. This is a trap and a distraction while also being a vote-buying scheme.
While I will say it appears to be a vote-buying scheme it targets mostly individuals who probably won’t change their minds about who to vote for. After all, the loan thing is happening before the election and people are having a hard time with just about everything. What would really buy votes would be to reverse all the stuff that lead to this situation. Most people understand this by now.
But it’s also a hot-button issue and a distraction. Consider the trillions being wasted annually. Many billions are a big deal to be sure but how about the many billions which “disappear” so frequently it never makes the news any longer?
The student Loan issue is a drop in the bucket. Yes it sucks but so does predatory lending and all of that other stuff. The government set this whole thing up by passing laws to make bankruptsy not possible for student loans and all other things. Its what led to the escalation of education costs in the first place which is still vastly outpacing inflation.
As with all other distractions, what is it distracting us from? Could it be the DOJ/FBI problems? You bet it is!

The student loan debacle allows a part of the community with college loan debt to walk-away from an obligation they willingly signed up for and throw it on the back of people who didn’t sign up for it. Everyone knows they have to pay taxes on income above a certain amount. It’s been around since at least 1913. That is different from being forced to pay for someone else’s under-water basket weaving degree.
So now, Biden is forcing the people to pay off irresponsible student’s loans. What is next? He’s going to force people to drive an electric auto; to eat foods according to his dictates. Will we all have to pay off these same irresponsible people’s home loans? And Biden does not live by example.
