During the White House press briefing today, the administration sent Jared Bernstein to the podium to discuss a recent drop in gasoline prices. Bernstein was claiming that Joe Biden had lowered gasoline prices when journalist James Rosen asked a question. {Direct Rumble Link}
James Rosen asked Bernstein why it was “Putin’s price hikes” when the gasoline prices are increasing, but not “Putin’s price plunge” when gasoline prices are decreasing. Bernstein attempted to clarify his position and ended up looking silly. WATCH:

Meanwhile, the Dallas Federal Reserve held its energy survey, there was some important feedback noted from the Oil and Gas industry.
I had not thought about some of these issues the professionals in the energy issue raised:
“The real energy crisis isn’t even here yet. The U.S. Energy Information Administration forecasts U.S. oil production to an average 12.5 million barrels per day for the next 30 years. This is all but impossible. Shale will likely tip into terminal decline in about five years as the main shale plays run out of location. Unfortunately, by then, most of the individuals with incumbent knowledge about offshore and international development will have retired. The brain drain in the industry will create a real and much larger crisis in the mid-to-late 2020’s.”
Looking silly is a requirement for all Biden administrators.
Busted. And they have a new older white spokesman who is not afraid to yell…
#JoeWillGetItDone #LiberalWorldOrder
Biden has to have silly and incompetent administrators – anything else would showcase even more starkly his own incompetence.
so jean-pierre is just what the gerontologist ordered.
“Ended up looking silly”? No, Bernstein started out looking silly. And deceptive. That’s prolly why he got the gig.
looking silly yet arrogant and effete is quite an accomplishment. Especially, while everyone is eyerolling and snickering.
Why is he rocking back and forth like a mental patient? Doesn’t inspire confidence.
lying profusely causes light heads …and nervous feet.
It’s his subconscious indicating a desire to run, but he knows he can’t, so he clutches the podium even tighter to anchor himself.
the tight grasp of the podium is also reflexive…losing control of the room and the narrative, so grabbing hold of this piece of furniture that I can control ..the only control I can have, when the room is spinning out of my control.
Yeah, but it’s not as annoying as Kamala’s constant head nodding when she talks. It’s like she is having to make herself agree with her own words.
That’s what you call “teetering on the brink”.
Most mental patients and severe dementia patients seem to do that. Confirmation of our suspicions?
He’s panicked. Did not expect questions. Note the lisp. His mouth went dry. Imagine how you would feel if you woke up in an operating theater with a dying patient in front of you and you are not a surgeon.
The brain drain is real. We have already seen it in the nuclear energy sector both in the U.S. and EU, in the coal-mining sector, and now it goes after the oil and oil services sector. It will be VERY difficult and time-consuming to restart/re-enter these industries.
Very much the point. One cannot rebuild an industry/institution without the knowledge that built it in the first place.
Hmm… much like what has afflicted every industry of note that had kept the US and much of the first world prosperous and free. Then globalism happened.
I’ve been watching “For All Mankind “ on Apple TV. The control room at NASA was full of brilliant engineers, the best and the brightest. They accomplished amazing things. It made me think about the fact that they are all gone. NASA hasn’t done anything in years. I doubt they could design anything that works. They had to depend on Russia and now private industry to launch anything. But that big bureaucracy is still there employing thousands of people.
Good point, my brother (not quite 80) died about a year ago. He was an aerospace engineer with NASA and then in private industry. He was brilliant, and, yes, I know they will be missing him and his fellow brilliant engineers when they pass on to the next life.
And another data point-many of them and the NASA support staff had only high school educations. Know any 18 yo kids with the math knowledge these days? I don’t.
Wah! Math is raaaaaaaaaacist!
If the current cabal extends its control, we will not restart or re-enter these industries. That’s their plan.
Imagine it in our military. For its entire history all US military services were organized around the principles of individual initiative and fighting to protect the defenseless. These principles are non-existent now and legacy Americans are sneered at for supporting a country the top brass despise and disparage.
China is calling the shots for our military and economy. They do what serves their interests. Wonder how many of those day-one Executive Orders the installed idiot signed with so much relish were authored by Beijing.
Why is he yelling?? And, he makes no sense. Biden Administration is a total disaster.
Every time these administrative eunuchs start drooling the company lines, they come across as more ignorant, if that’s even possible. Who writes this bs? These people have to think everyone dumber then they are.
They are actors reading a script.
Max, he reminds me of old King Joeseph Canute who wanted to impress his courtiers with his power. So he assembled them at early morning by the edge of the sea, told the sea of his power and commanded it to recede, as he would return late in the day to make sure it had obeyed.
Lo, that afternoon, he and his court returned to find the sea had withdrawn more than a hundred yards at which Canute turned to his courtiers and said, “Do not doubt my powers.”

Nuclear Fusion…Winner…Winner…Chicken Dinner…
Reminds me of some sort of quote from this Paul Ehrlich guy on how irresponsible it was to provide cheap energy to humanity.
You mean like Nikola Tesla? Irresponsible, my ass!!!!! Ha! We are in so much trouble!
Nikola Tesla was a brilliant scientist, but he was no Malthusian.
Tesla wanted free energy for all. Wonder why Musk is using his name?
PS I was not alluding to that at all. Only energy.
That principle, Malthusianism has never been proven. Hydroponic and other methods of food production may be alternatives unforeseen and thus negatively hypothesized by Mathus.
Puhlease! AQUAPONICS is MUCH better than hydroponics, and even addresses all of THEIR “issues”;
Very low energy use
Very low water use
Sustainable
Doesn’t use (can’t) chemical fertilisers
Doesn’t use (can’t) pesitcides.
Renewable
Infinitely scalable, from table top to major farming operation
Even covers eating bugs
(indirectly, feed the bugs to the fish, fish fertilise the plants, plants keep the water clean, for the fish.
Whats NOT to like?
It’s too clean, kinda like Barack 😉
Was it not Joe who said that?
KEK
Oh what a tangled web we weave when once we practice to deceive.
Actually, the quote is from Sir Walter Scott.
….when first we practice to deceive.
Biden hasn’t done jack shale.
Fossil fuel extraction and processing is yet one more crucial American industry the globalists want sent offshore. Follow the money.
….and read up on Chinese oil refining expansion…20% per year last time I looked at it…
20 percent of WHAT?
If I am refining 5 gallons/year, even a 100 percent expansion only brings me up to 10 gal/year.
Actually, they want to control (shut down) Worldwide petroleum production/refining, but frustrating for them, the World isn’t cooperating.
They tried to disrupt ME, with color revolutions and encouraging Iran, …
FAILED
And, after Abrams accords and arms sales to SA, that “ship has sailed”, as the gulf states no longer depend on U.S. for ‘protection’.
Their TRYING with Russia,…FAILING there, as well.
Not gonna have any luck with Mexico, or smaller producers (Opec PLUS) either.
Yes, they have severely curtailed US production, and if U.S. had not experienced, first hand true energy independance, perhaps their b.s. now would be believed by some.
Tell me again why PDJT is NOT the one I should vote for in 2024, that I should vote for Desantis, or Gnome the Nikki 2.0, or Pompouseo?
Sheesh, he saw it coming, and preemptively trashed their “great reset”, …
Check out the oblah-blah land grab…it’s design was to head off oil/gas discovery and fracking…there is very little federal land in Texas is one reason the Permian Basin was developed….
IMO, Federal Land is an oxymoron. It is…Our Land.
“federal land” the way they currently define it is also UNCONSTITUTIONAL….read up on it and they are to own no more than is necessary to do their assigned duties…..they used their possession of land previous to the granting of statehood to lands west of the Mississippi as a measure of extortion when those lands came up for entry into the union……large swaths were maintained under federal control AFTER granting “sovereignty” to the states…….how can this balance with the language in the US Constitution….the answer is it cannot
And the States were happy to let them, as maintaining vast swaths of undeveloped land costs $.
The State governments, representing the citisens, did NOT challenge usurpations of States rights.
But they CAN, at any time.
If WE, the people of the States, put State gov officials in office, that WILL assert States rights, it can be a devastatingly powerful tool for cutting the Federal govt down to size.
Cutting off the $ won’t work, but we CAN cut of the AUTHORITY they so crave.
Where’d they drag Bernstein out from? Navarro said he has no formal training in economics. He basically told James Rosen he didn’t like his language, why aren’t you carrying water for the *resident? He didn’t offer any substantive explanation.
Bernstein drew the short straw yesterday. His innate escape mechanism was triggered when he realized he was in front of a lot of people and being recorded.
Can you imagine the fear of the White House employees over the last year and a half? It must be near paralyzing.
Personally, I think we’ll be well on our way to dependable and reasonably economic non-fossil-fuel energy alternatives 30 years from now . But even if we aren’t, 25% of the undeveloped oil & gas reserves on the planet are sitting just off the North Slope of Alaska. We just would need the political will to go get it. Right now we don’t.
how MUCH energy do you figure of that unrealized untapped North Slope sweet will be required to manufacture, produce, expand and install and get operational this “non-fuel energy alternatives”?
not trying to be smart here. Just wanted to know if you have any idea what kind of energy costs do you think (estimate ballpark) is REQUIRED to make “green things” happen?
50 percent? 20? 80?
now lets turn the question to the other 200 trillion tonne gorrilla pacing the room about to throw furniture:
how does non-fossil fuel energy make “material goods”?
think of ALL the items that oil is used to produce…literally every single thing, including food and medicine.
how does “non-fossil energy” make those things happen?
asking for a friend.
Watch any major golf tournament. The clothing worn by the players and the spectators is all synthetic fibers made from petroleum. Nobody seems to wear cotton anymore. Not me.
How does green energy make clothing?
Don’t need to watch golf, whetever you are, right now (reading this) just look around you.
Everything you are touching, everything you see, was (at the least) transported by fossil fuels.
And, MOST everything depended on fosdil fuels, as an energy source, in its manufacture.
And, MOST contain a product from refining fossil fuels.
Anything PLASTIC, is 99 percent refined petroleum.
We need cotton, that synthetic stuff is hot!
Cotton uses acres and acres of land for a small amount of material. This is a current target of SynBio where cotton can be grown on a small fraction of the space now using tons of water and soil. I think is close for commercial use soon.
Most anything is made from byproducts. All of it
These morons are so delusionally stupid, they parrot insanity , which will be their defense when their about to be hung
We won’t be allowed to eat the silk worms… 🙂
Check out SynBio
I am not up on this relatively new technology, but my surface knowledge of the subject is that the relevant biology of a material can be synthetically replicated through DNA splicing and grown for commercial use. SynBio is touted as the next revolutionary technology.
I couldn’t tell, by watching the Open on TV this past weekend, what type of material their golf shirts were made of.
However, last month I went shopping for a birthday present at a Dick’s sporting goods store. Every golf shirt there was made of 100% polyester. Non-breathable but wrinkle-free.
Come to think of it, they didn’t have a very big selection to choose from.
All Biden had to do was NOTHING to have a booming economy with plenty of energy. If you don’t think this is all ON PURPOSE open those big green eyes.
When Biden took office, Trump’s economy was roaring back. If Biden had did nothing, we would all be on easy street.
Without the Covid plandemic, the economy would have been roaring for another year, prior to the election.
So, with the plandemic it was;
“FIRST we f*ck the economy,…THEN we f*ck
Trump!”
They HAD to derail the Trump economy, which was not only “running on all cylinders” but was Supercharged, far enough before the election, to make his not winning remotely believable.
No way the U.S. doesn’t reelect an incumbent POTUS, with the best economy in 40+ years.
Notice how Covid was released at JUST the ‘right time’ and how the GOVERNMENT RESPONCE (and NOT the virus, itself) derailed the Trump Economy, beginning a YEAR before the election?
Total incompetence caused by narrative over truth. Should have been a simple question to answer and crush that reporter. Here’s what he should have told him. Sometimes you don’t start a fight, but you got to be the guy to end it. Putin caused all these problems, not us. But we’re darn sure going to fix it. So have a little respect for we’ve accomplished so far. I’m not saying that’s the fact. I’m just saying he could have done a lot better than that pretty easily
Bernstein has been spinning for so long I don’t think he even knows what the truth is anymore
To bad that spin does no useful work. Might permanently solve the world’s energy problems with an inexhaustible resource. /s
Putin didn’t start it, O’Butthole did, get yer fax strate!!!!!!
If you responding to starfker, reread his comment.
I, too am sometimes frustrated when I see an opponent, who can’t even do a good job.
Doesn’t mean I support my opponent, its just “Oh, c’mon! You can do better than THAT!
Thing is, starfcker,….No, they CAN’T! They really recruit from the bottom of the barrel, and if an apple doesn’t have several worm holes, bruises and moldy spots, they don’t WANT it.
Everything will change once Texas secedes followed by Florida.
If Texas leaves they will immediately be overrun by the cartels and 50M immigrants.
You do not think the National Guard can shoot to kill?
That illegal alien migrants can be interned on hot arid camps?
Too late.
Mr. Bernstein, according to wikipedia, is a strong advocate for workers. Now he is helping to crush them.
A star fades when it runs out of energy. In this case is removed from a cheap, reliable source. FJB
In the meantime, Germany has told John Ketchup Stolen Valor Private Plane Flying Kerry they are starting their coal mining up again in earnest (and it still will not help as the Rhein is drying up to such an extent that the transporting barges won’t be able to make it from A to B where the coal is needed). Winter is coming for Europe.
To which Kerry said the US was going to go into overdrive to “transition” to “green” energy.
Add in that Russia’s shutdown of Gazprom pipeline into Germany for “maintenance” will continue indefinitely as they declare Force Majeure over their fossil fuels.
I think unless reality smacks them in THEIR faces, we are in one heck of a lot of trouble.
That’s “we”, as in us.
This Winter will be cruel in the EU, especially in Germany.
Next Spring will be devastating with the realization of food shortages in all countries.
Well I guess we can honor and salute all the dead Euros for the sacrifice they will have made.
yes, nS1 is kaput until europe and nato conceded on sanctions and resolves a negotiated settlement.
russia can wait on these terms longer than the european “leadership” can temp fate with a freezing violent mob.
it might take a few more weeks, perhaps months, but Europe is going to start applying pressure on ukraine to negotiate quickly.
there is no way that europe can get the kind of energy up and safely and consistently before winter. It’s just not possible. Maybe 10-20 percent and that would be with serious issues in reliability.
this is one of those engineering problems that you can’t just through money at and expect it to happen quicker.
I really feel bad for the people of europe …they will have to do what is necessary soon to exert force.
real energy…real power..requiring no serious money investments…just will and self interest..
sri lanka says hello
The citisens of the EU, agreed to the formation of the EU.
Same countries have been ripping off the US, thru underfunding NATO and trade barriers to the tune of 500 billion/year, about the same amount as China.
THAT is how they financed their generous pension and health care systems, with our money.
So, I find it difficult to have a lot of sympathy for them.
the experiment in europe has indeed failed. But, I cannot bring myself to find no sympathies for the people who will be punished by the failures of the state. Clearly, these radical policies changes are not shared through the entire citizenry in europe..they have the same issues we have with state propaganda and the strong arm of the wealth class deciding policy.
UK moved to brexit for a reason. I suspect we will soon see some EU countries renogiating its terms out of self interest. Germany can’t hold it all together…it’s just not possible.
the energy wars will change everything.
It is impossible now to find returnable (red) bottles of gas (LPG) . Hoarding.
Will someone in the Biden Administration stop rolling out these knuckleheads to the podium? Each one sounds more ridiculous than the last one. Just send the President out there to read the prepared script from the teleprompter, shake hands with invisible people, and then shuffle off the stage. At least with Joe, we’ve gotten used to the lame presentation prepared by his handlers and given by the Big Guy with dementia. These other bureaucrats have no excuse for their overt baffoonery that they somehow think we will accept as the truth.
Time to prepare is short. Iceberg dead ahead….
Just received a 1,091 electric bill. This after last month was 800 so major cuts were made and now it is even more. There is no peace or relief in sight.
Mine was $325, which is high for June. July could be $500, and my house is warm.
If rural, you can build a gasifier, which uses a fire to turn wood or pellets into a gas form, which can be blown into the carb of a generator.
Just paid two in FL 450 and 500..PA is 178..all electric heat pump/ac.
Stop living the lie and joining them in their delusions. Break their backs, stand up when no one else will and do not sit quietly and be lied to. Be the truth, speak it to power. Do it everywhere, every day. Give no quarter to these liars, call them out and educate those around you by speaking truth.
This is joes debacle, this is the deep state DC political class running our country into the ground. We did NOT vote these folks into power, they STOLE IT!!
Humiliate the liars by calling truth to power! WE MUST STOP LIVING THIS LIE!
Do it at your town council, your school board meetings, everywhere.
Wow, they sure know how to unleash the power of mediocrity!
I seem to remember in 2008 gas prices were high until the market crashed and something called histories biggest margin call happened. A bear market and recession caused gas and oil prices to drop.
Hey Joe are you going to take credit for the recession you caused so you can claim your policies caused gas and oil prices to drop?
That does seem to be the overall plan but, of course, they can’t vocalize it because people would string them up.
Last bullet — “Many companies are planning an exit of their business.”
Hey remember when the 1970’s oil embargo had people buying wood stoves? The smoke in the suburbs was so thick you could hardly breathe. EPA forced wood stove efficiency design changes. Still, burning wood releases lots of carbon into the air. Can’t have that. Greta will be mad. Our globalist rulers do have a solution in mind — they want us all dead.
If you live in cold country, you better order your firewood now. Too late if you wait until fall.
Just got 4 cords delivered before the price went up due to diesel fuel.
For all the years I had a wood stove, I never ordered wood from anyone. I went out and bought a Stihl o41AV chainsaw with a 20″ bar and cut my own. I would find a landowner who just had his land logged and ask to cut up his laps for firewood and would usually cut about 10 chords a season.
Here in Northern WI we have a biomass plant operated by WE Energies; all part of previous Gov Doyle’s 25/25, or 25% renewables by 2025. Cost was around $300 million for 50 MW and the operating costs are insane.
What fuels it? Those tree tops you were burning. Everything burns; stumps from land clearing, tops, everything. Everything burns except the dirt, which they haul to the landfill in 20 yard dumpsters, 3 per calendar day.
When the crap won’t burn, they run it on natural gas. Idiocy.
Apparently the UK is justifying burning pellets from American trees by saying that they are carbon neutral since they are only releasing the carbon that they stored up over the tree’s lifetime. LOL
In regard to Sundance’s last paragraph and the the special questions comments, a question that I would have liked to have an answer to is “If Biden policy was reversed and went back to 2020 policy can America be energy independent again and if so, for how long”? The comment regarding shale plays tipping into terminal decline after 5 years and then talks about offshore and international development is somewhat concerning. If we were a net exporter of oil I would assume we had much more than a five year domestic supply of fracking. I assume that comment is a comment regarding what the the Biden policy would allow and not what’s available if unconstrained.
The initial play was the big producers. The long-term plan was to get the cash flowing and use the momentum, knowledge and an administration willing to put America’s interest first to move to develop fields with lower potential. There are areas that can be developed that are off-limits. Fracking is OK for oil but the big advantage is cheap natural gas. There is still a lot of that in wells that are mostly depleted for oil. But, they can’t go after it.
As World War II was approaching, the brain drain as defined above simply moved to a different country. What would prevent this knowledge from moving on to greener markets?
…apparently,
the science is unsettling
( that is, the ever shifting
…political non science, poly-sci) .
Inflation began to get traction when energy development was curtailed Jan 2021.

12.5 million bpd for thirty years = 137,000,000,000 total barrels over the next 30 years!
Im trying to think what concrete efforts biden took to ‘partially’ take credit for reducing gas prices, and Im drawing a blank. A little help there jared?
“He road a bike, which reduced demand, instead of using ‘the beast’.
Reduced demand means lower prices,…get it?
Boy, you people really ARE rubes!”
Major sarc.
removed
The only concrete efforts, I have seen, is the draining of our strategic oil reserves. So since President Trump filled the reserves, then how can the credit go to Biden for opening the spicket?
The question James Rosen should ask Bernstein, “Why did Biden create the oil shortage, attempt to blame Putin for the price hikes” and try to take credit for draining our strategic oil reserves filled by President Trump?
I voted Jared Bernstein as the guy that I would , “most like to slap”, 5 or 6 Years ago. A real obnoxious POS!
“…Um…uh…concrete efforts [Biden] has taken.” Only “concrete” efforts on Biden’s part is when he’s fallen on pavement.
😂
So the story is price goes up Putin’s fault. Price goes down Biden did that. Both lies. It’s all Obama’s fault and the rest of the Marxist string pullers behind the curtain.
A Republic of Florida..
Energy is Power.. those who have it.. rule.. those who don’t.. don’t..
Florida could become.. ‘Energy Independent..’.. a vast continental shelf.. full of oil and gas..
I’ve been preparing this one off and on for months now.. but I will just post it with this impromptu overview revision..
“The Implications of Oil Exploration off the Gulf Coast of Florida” from the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering..
Research from the Center for Spatial Reasoning & Policy Analytics, College of Public Service & Community Solutions, Arizona State University, Phoenix, AZ,..
and published by the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering, was performed as to what would happen if an oil spill occurred off the coast of Florida..
You know.. all the fearmongering of an “oil on the beaches” catastrophe.. ..not gonna happen..
Research.. as published from the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering.. said.. it won’t happen.. even if there is a spill..
from the conclusion..
“..the results of this paper confirm the absence of squeezelines within the 50 m isobath and highlight the dearth of cross-shelf current activity. This translates into plumes that remain offshore, keeping the Gulf Coast of Florida oil-free. This same outcome was also true for the western spill locations—with the Gulf Coast of Florida spared from oiling.
so there you go..
while the whole research paper is scientifically interesting.. you will have to excise the requisite underlying lefty communistic fearmongering..
“..Both California and Florida have strongly resisted efforts to renew offshore drilling operations, arguing that environmental, tourism, and aesthetic values would be negatively impacted. Given the importance of tourism to many coastal states, this is a legitimate concern worth acknowledging..”
but in their same report.. in their own research.. the Journal of Marine Science and Engineering..
..just proved that wouldn’t happen..
it’s all fearmongering..
everything is a scam.. to keep the States in chains..
Research Link:

“,..everything is a scam.. to keep the STATES in chains..” (emphasis mine)
And WE ARE “the States”, so to keep US in chains.
So when Biden said “They’re gonna put you all back in chains “, he really meant “he ” was going to do that.
Cali may have more oil than anybody. Hell, it bubbles up out of the ground there.

“We will take the lead in decarbonizing our operations and then in decarbonizing the nation.” – Eric Silagy , CEO of Florida Power and Light (NextEra Energy)
The real energy crisis will come when the abject stupidity of corporate officers such as this finally manifests itself.
What has Joe done Mr. Spokeidiot? What concrete efforts?
They think we are stuoid.
I hate these people. They have morals, no ethics, no qualms about standing up and telling lie after lie after lie. Anything to retain and further their power. I hate them.
These are the exact issues The Market Ticker Guy has written about on his blog.
The level of damage this administration has done in short order is catastrophic to our country.
Was Jared Bernstein trying to do the Texas Sidestep? It reminds me of Charles During’s song in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. This also could be guiding Kamala’s speeches.
I was waiting for “suffering succotash” from Bernstein.
Seriously, these people are truly morons and embarrassing. I feel as though, I just watched a wanna be comedy, wanna be horror F-movie all in one. All these players in this Biden administration are way above their heads. I am surprised they don’t show up with their underwear on their heads.
God Help Us All.
What I heard was plain, ol’ word salad.
Rep Jan Schakowsky ” Biden is absolutely, you know, full of his faculties, a wonderful communicator”
The failure to deal in reality is as bad as Biden. Liars, one and all.
Just think of the crushing regulations a World Communist Government (WEF) would impose on YOU, as a water and oxygen consumer, plus a waste producer! This would be at the individual level. BUT WE CAN’T ORGANIZE TO RESIST?
Has there ever been a less competent regime in Washington? Good lord…the number of villages without idiots must be legend: Bidens handlers have conscripted them all.
Yes, and given them all six-figure salaries to boot…
While they’re screwing around with all this nonsense, the American people cannot get basics. How about jackass joe and gubbermint GET OUT OF THE WAY AND LET THE MARKET WORK.
EVERYTHING THE GUBBERMINT TOUCHES TURNS TO CHIT!
Reminds me of the similar junior-high-school-student-council level of “explanation” by the DOD official a few months back when actually challenged on why he claimed that Russia was about to deploy poison gas. These people have no explanations because they are not in charge. They await their orders from BlackRock or whomever is in the committee that is actually running our country right now. For them, as idiots, “messaging” is a complete substitute for knowledge, experience, judgment, competence. Corporate media is generally in on the charade and never asks questions like this, and of course their corporate mouthpieces in print have long ago shut down comments sections.
For their supporters, our benighted and confused fellow American hostiles, content does not exist, only team loyalty. All utterances are accepted and defended at face value.
Idiot Wind.
What?
Carlo Cipolla was an Italian philosopher who wrote a short book: The 5 Basic Laws of Human Stupidity.
It is something of a witty satire, yet contains more than a few kernels of Truth.
Cipolla postulates that societies have certain rather constant percentages of Intelligent People, Bandits, Helpless People, and Stupid People, with some groups overlapping in characteristics (e.g. Bandits can be Stupid, the Helpless can be Intelligent).
A salient excerpt for our current topic:
“According to the Second Basic Law, the fraction of stupid people is a constant σ which is not affected by time, space, race, class or any other sociocultural or historical variable. It would be a profound mistake to believe the number of stupid people in a declining society is greater than in a developing society. …
… in the society which performs poorly:
a) the stupid members of the society are allowed by the other members to become more active and take more actions;
b) there is a change in the composition of the non-stupid section with a relative decline of populations (among non-stupid people)
This theoretical presumption is abundantly confirmed by an exhaustive analysis of historical cases….
Whether one considers classical, or medieval, or modern or contemporary times one is impressed by the fact that any country moving uphill has its unavoidable σ fraction of stupid people.
However the country moving uphill also has an unusually high fraction of intelligent people who manage to keep the σ fraction at bay and at the same time produce enough gains for themselves and the other members of the community to make progress a certainty.
In a country which is moving downhill, the fraction of stupid people is still (static)
However in the remaining population one notices among those in power an alarming proliferation of the bandits with overtones of stupidity…and among those not in power an equally alarming growth in the number of helpless individuals …
Such change in the composition of the non-stupid population inevitably strengthens the destructive power of the (Stupid) fraction and makes decline a certainty.
And the country goes to Hell.”
