The entire premise of the J6 committee is a farce. The overwhelming majority of Americans fully understand it is a political exercise between Democrats in congress and their hired Lawfare allies. The goal is to label their political opposition as extremists, block and/or tarnish President Trump and manufacture a false premise to advance the Democrat 2022 election goals.
Despite this reality the effort continues in order to fuel their far-left base and media allies.
Today, the House committee triggered subpoenas against House republican members. The subpoenas were sent to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (U-DC), Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.), Rep Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) and Mo Brooks (R-Ala.). All five of the house members had previously rejected investigators’ requests for voluntarily testimony.
The subpoena authority is likely, hopefully, to be challenged in court. The premise of a House committee issuing subpoena’s to the political opposition of the same House membership appears to violate the function of government on many levels.

Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), had previously doubted the wisdom of that subpoenaing lawmakers, as that would likely trigger a lengthy court fight unlikely to be resolved before in the current Congress.
But the select panel’s thinking appears to have changed, as every avenue of the probe led investigators toward fellow House members.
Some of the subpoena targets — and several other GOP lawmakers — were regularly in contact with Trump and the White House in the weeks leading up to Jan. 6. They helped amplify false claims about the integrity of the 2020 election and were among the earliest to call on colleagues to challenge the results.
But members were mindful that demanding testimony from lawmakers would potentially set a precedent. While House and Senate ethics committees have subpoenaed members and staff before, there’s little precedent for an investigative committee — particularly one mainly guided by the majority party — turning its subpoena powers on fellow members of the House. The clock is running out fast and the pressure is building internally. The insurrection was a farce.
The articles of impeachment were delivered after Trump left office making them a farce.
The impeachment trial was a farce. Just because the Senate holds hands and say “They Believe” that they have a Connotational duty to have a trial if the House delivers articles does not mean the Supreme Court is in agreement with their belief.
The Supreme Court will still have to decide the issue, or the Democrats will claim the articles of impeachment remain because the trial was unconstitutional. The issue remains a ticking bomb.
When Pelosi delivered the articles of impeachment after Trump left office, she knew an impeachment trial could not be acted upon until Trump returned to office.
The Supreme court may not hear it until Trump announces his intent to run for President. The other option to get the SC to rule is to file a civil suit claiming his civil rights were violated.
The Shampeachments are all finished. In both trials, the Senate acquitted him. There is nothing for the Supreme Court to rule on.
Why not? The constitution says it takes two branches of government to have an impeachment trial. The CJ of the SC will preside over the trial. The CJ said he would not attend and my interpretation of that was because Trump was no longer President then an impeachment trial was unconstitutional.
Your argument only stands if the trial follows the constitution.
My argument is an unconstitutional trial cannot remove articles of impeachment.
If there were any Federal crimes, then it should have gone to the DOJ. The DOJ, should there be any charges can still file them.
So you have potentially two issues that make it unconstitutional. Trump was a private citizen and the CJ did not attend the trial. If the democrats bring it up and Trump is elected president and the impeachment trial fails the test of clearing the charges, then an immediate impeachment trial could resume as soon as Trump takes office.
That outcome could place the VP as the new President.

Fundamentally, a “Congressional committee” can only be convened to advance legislative purposes. It cannot pursue any sort of crime, nor may it issue an indictment that can be honored for that purpose by any Court. It certainly cannot compel testimony from its own members.

So what if one of them agreed to testify publicly and presented all of the information that has been coming out as the justification for their initial concerns? They would need to have guarantees that their entire testimony would be heard, which could be done if they were able to do a video recording of their testimony. That could be released whether or not the committee tried to suppress it.

Can someone help me out with this? Is SD referring to himself here? If so, this is news to me concerning J6.
For a few weeks at first I debated whether to take the committee on publicly and what the potential ramifications would be for the website.
I was a little worried about the potential ramifications for readers/users; and whether I would need to be legally careful in any discussion or outline. Ultimately, I decided to handle it legally without anything public (admin were aware), but was willing to go public if it got seriously ugly. It didn’t.
I think the legal authority of the J6 committee is tenuous at best and everyone should challenge them to take their subpoena authority before a court and justify their demands. That was my approach.
Ultimately, they got nothing. No documents and no demanded deposition. The subpoena was factually baseless, legally tenuous and defeated last Monday with the committee investigators backing down. All legal confrontation dissolved, and all requests abandoned.
No biggie. Moving on. But yes, it does give me a rather unique perspective on the J6 committee and the approaches the targets of the committee may take.
At the time J6, I just assumed Sundance was going to be involved with any investigation, many readers attended the speaking event.
I personally was concerned for some posters.
