Previously a federal judge overturned the federal mask mandate for transportation, thereby allowing travelers to make their own choices. The DOJ has appealed that decision after the CDC said it wanted the mask mandate to remain in place. The status of that litigation is unknown.
Today, the CDC has announced a semi-permanent extension of the federal transportation mask mandate with no expiration date noted. [Announcement Here] That means all travelers on airplanes, trains, busses and ridesharing will be required to wear facemasks again, including inside the terminals and operational hubs of those transportation nodes, pending the outcome of the DOJ appeal to the federal court.
CDC Announcement – “At this time, CDC recommends that everyone aged 2 and older – including passengers and workers – properly wear a well-fitting mask or respirator over the nose and mouth in indoor areas of public transportation (such as airplanes, trains, etc.) and transportation hubs (such as airports, stations, etc.).
[…] This public health recommendation is based on the currently available data, including an understanding of domestic and global epidemiology, circulating variants and their impact on disease severity and vaccine effectiveness, current trends in COVID-19 Community Levels within the United States, and projections of COVID-19 trends in the coming months.

If the Biden administration lose the court appeal to reinstitute the mask mandate, this announcement by the CDC would appear to be moot, they couldn’t enforce it. However, if the Biden administration is successful in their appeal, the mandatory mask wearing returns.
Put another way….. If the Biden administration lose the appeal, the people wearing masks will be the COVID worshippers. If the Biden administration win their appeal we all have to wear them.
The mandate created by Joe Biden did not have legal structure. It was a dictatorial fiat that exceeded the capacity of the executive branch to create. U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle found the CDC exceeded its statutory authority with the mask mandate and violated the rules that guide CDC regulations. {LINK} After Joe Biden arbitrarily announced the federal transportation mandate, the CDC triggered enforcement of the mask mandate without any required time for public feedback on a new regulation.
Congress could easily write a law authorizing mechanisms for the CDC and TSA to use in enforcement of a federal Transportation mask mandate; but they won’t – because the public doesn’t support it. However, the Biden administration doesn’t care about majority public opinion, they are fine-tuned to push virtue signaling as a political strategy.
The White House is very committed to all their mandates around COVID-19, the mask mandate is no different. From the perspective of the professional political left, the theater of forced mask wearing represents the visible power and authority of government to rule the lives of the irrelevant proles.
Any pesky legal rulings, that seek to reduce or remove the power of government, are viewed by the left as arbitrary and insignificant efforts to block their almighty power of government. They can choose to wear a mask if they want, but that’s not really the issue behind the mask mandate. The true power of the left is in the ability to force everyone to comply to their whims regardless of individual freedom.
The Covidians who define themselves by their adherence to the dictates of the U.S. government, will be happy with this position from the CDC today. They worship at the altar of COVID science and use masks as an expression of their sanctimonious feeling of superiority. However, in an election year where the overwhelming majority of the American people have had enough of this political science, this CDC position may fuel an even more angry response.
RECOMMENDS. That means, NO WAY to those of us with functioning brain cells.

Don’t disagree but trust or no trust the CDC does not have the lawful authority to demand, order or enforce anything and the president of the United States cannot order citizens to comply with a mandate. Presidents don’t have the authority per the Constitution to order American citizens to do anything. It was a hoax from the beginning.

Sure, the affected demographic was a very small range of people, but die they did and in large numbers. “Unknown causes” indeed, right? Hah!! I just read the “recommendation”. And that is what it IS. A RECOMMENDATION! It’s like recommending that we wear sun screen. Or any other recommendation. To me, that gives me a CHOICE. And since it is the SEEDY-C (as one poster accurately pointed out) my response would be the same if a 5 year old recommended it to me.

The time to push back on these zany “recommendations” was when our president was doing it.
We are never going to rid our society of this horror now.
Actually it was a presidential mandate. Totally illegal from the beginning that’s why the CDC is using the word recommends and since everyone including companies complied no one even bothers to look at the wording anymore.
Anything the CDC demands with out a law behind it is illegal. Anything a President demands, mandates or orders of individual American citizens is illegal. The Executive branch has certain governmental people it has control over per the Constitution, the American public are not part of that. All Americans need to know is the president nor any of his departments can order or mandate something they must obey. The companies that went along with these demands did so because they wanted to or were fearful not to, not because they lawfully had to. Only dictators and their enforcers can make demands of their citizens and companies. If all Americans understood this no one would comply.
What about those people riding as passengers in airplanes who were kicked off the plane for refusing wearing masks, or upon landing were taken off and arrested? We know they shouldn’t be allowed to dictate to us like that…but that was the reality.
Well, it’s the morning after the CDC’s latest “recommendation,” and I’ve still seen/heard zip about it except for here. In addition, the CDC announcement from yesterday doesn’t go this far (quoting SD):

As far as I can see, the CDC didn’t mention timeframes or the DOJ appeal, so their announcement looks like some weird attempt to either save face or cover their behinds.
If masks were “re-mandated” in airports and airplanes, I assume it would be all over every real and faux news source, but there’s nothing out there to my knowledge.
Refuse to wear them – period. If attacked – attack back. Enough is Enough.

The authoriatarians in Government (starting with Herr Fauci) have shown US citizens that they put their own financial and power interests above our health and safety and we will NEVER believe them again. We are not babies, we are a soverign peoope who can make up our own minds about wearing masks, which studies have shown do little or nothing to keep the virus from spreading….even Fauci told us this at the very beginning before he went full autocrat (” I am Science”) on us!
I’ve been pushing back on mask mandates locally, with success. My longtime hair dresser asked me to wear a mask after she realized I’m not vaccinated, and I told her that I was sorry, but if I had to wear a mask, I could no longer visit her salon. She made an exception. I called my dentist to find out whether he was still requiring masks, and when the office person said yes, they were mandated, I canceled my appointment. I then researched and found there was no mandate and called back to ask why they were saying it was mandated when it’s not. The office person referred me to the manager, who explained that the ADA is advising masking based on CDC recommendations. I stated that there is no evidence that masking has any beneficial result and I refuse to pretend that the naked emperor is wearing new clothes. The manager then conveyed what I said to the dentist, and he has made an exception.
Businesses don’t want to lose their clients. If the vast majority of us pushed back, these masking requirements would be dropped.
Was in the post office today. They still have signs on all doors saying masks are mandatory. No one inside the building was wearing a mask except the usps employees. There was zero attempt to enforce the masking policy. I had already determined I was going to use FedEx for my package if the usps was enforcing masks. I’m not thinking a lot of folks are going to start wearing masks based on a CDC recommendation. That ship appears to have sailed.
Anytime I see someone wearing a mask now I assume that they either are undergoing chemo, are a ‘progressive’ or are stupid. Although one could argue that two and three are the same.
When I see some physicians still wearing masks in spite of multiple studies showing not only no benefit but a potential risk for wearing one…I pick a physician who is NOT wearing one.
When is the appeal scheduled to be heard? Are the airlines and Amtrak now requiring masks again? Need info!

The one thing these people are trying or complying with the CDC’s mask mandates is control. It has nothing to do with health safety. So hit them where it counts and where they understand. Money! Refuse to comply . Say no to masks. Get on the bus, if 30 or more people refuse to wear the mask while boarding the bus, the bus driver has better things to do than argue with his customers. Same with taxi drivers, Uber , what ever. If this goes south, then step up your game, be responsible for your own transportation. Drive yourself, walk or bike if possible (it’s good for your health) ride share.
Flying is a bit more complicated. Put pressure from the public to make it clear to the major airlines and private airlines that as individuals and as corporate customers that wearing masks is a no go. Also step up your pressure on State & Federal politicians to end support for any masks mandates. Make it clear that with up coming elections that anything that supports masks mandates, means a no vote for you irregardless of your party affiliation or your stand on any other issues. Refusing to use their services means a lack of money in their pockets. They get that, and enough lack of customers means bankruptcy or someone else provides the needed service.
We have become to much like sheep! We need to become Lions, independent, but also United (the lion pride, or family) no one else will do it for you! The Government, Federal,State, or local is not your friend, or your protector. That’s your job!

Call up all of the airlines you have ever flown on and ask them if you have to wear a mask to fly on them.
If they say yes, tell them that you won’t ever fly on their airline again and hang up.
Why would the government let go of the mask theatre when their other Covid policies are still in place? Do Americans understand that their land borders are locked out to the unvaccinated, even for essential services? When your government tells you about looming food shortages, they are refusing entry to Canadian trucks that would be bringing food and other goods. The truth is that Canada currently has 5 million political prisoners that are unable to leave their tyrannical country and they can’t even escape to the US because of your land border policies. I am a Canadian currently living in the deep south and I have yet to meet one American who knows about this policy.
The govt. is not going to easily give up their people control agenda. Hopefully the judges ruling will stand and not be over turned.

As a 72 yo retired physician, I don’t trust any current physician. They are putting themselves first, not the patient first. Very different medicine than I learned from 1972-1976 med school experience. 50 years after entering medical school, I do not see medical ethics being taught or practiced.
