New York state democrats attempted to mitigate the bloodbath coming their way in the 2022 elections by drawing a redistricting map that eliminated three republican congressional seats. Today a New York State appeals court ruled the maps were unconstitutional efforts to gerrymander the districts and now the primary races will likely be delayed.
The 78-page ruling is available here. The state appeals court ruled 4-3 against the democrats. The June 28, 2022, primary will likely be moved to August because the state now needs to redraw the congressional districts.

The maps were “procedurally unconstitutional, and the congressional map is also substantively unconstitutional as drawn with impermissible partisan purpose,” the court said.

The 2020 election in NY was a real mess. None of the local candidates on the ballot had any one party affiliation.
Save for a few greenies, the candidates all ran under Republican, Conservative and Democrat lines. No difference. It was maddening.
I think we need to run DINOS in places like NY and CA. The only way we will ever get Conservatives in will be to disguise them as Democrats.
And what conservatives will you get to move to dem areas? I wouldn’t move to Portland or similar. I mean dems will move to Republican areas in a nanosecond to get away from what they have wrought. There are plenty of conservatives already in dem areas, no one has to move there. In 2016, the state that gave Trump the fourth-most votes was New York. He got a great many votes in CA also. There are many conservatives in both states and other blue states who stay there for reasons of business and friends and family connections. I think Judith is on to something. Fight fire with fire. Not just any appellate court — the New York Court of Appeals is the highest state court (akin to another state’s supreme court). The intermediate appellate court is the Appellate Division.

Maryland’s congressional map was thrown out by the courts, too, and they passed a much more compact one where the districts, especially 2 and 3, are not intertwined. Whether they’ll be more competitive is a wait and see issue but maybe…

The difference is interesting in that the new map seems to have created a few more democrat leaning “battleground” districts vs rabid democrat districts but not necessarily any new Republican Districts. Yet, look at the map again and remember NUMBER of COUNTIES mean ZERO for all those county counters out there, it is STILL all about population centers.

I think a lot of Democraps are reaching the panic stage where the 2022 election is concerned. They are afraid the voters will punish them for trying to rig the election and want to leave everything looking more equitable before they actually do steal the election.
