I remember high school back in the good old days –
I think it was a fairly affluent residential community, lots of semi-rural spaces, bridle trails, hills to climb, a good many homes had swimming pools, some had tennis courts too.
When I was a sophomore in high school, the high school was not that old and there was some effort to generate support for a bond issue for money for a swimming pool, other stuff.
So, everyone – I mean EVERYONE – was supposed to wear white on a particular day and go out on the athletic field and stand in certain places to form a big YES for the front page of the local community newsmagazine (we had a newsmagazine – you could three-hole punch it and keep the issues in binders but we never did)
I had a pleasant lunch, sitting on the cool shade of my favorite tree, eating my lunch and reading my book of the moment.
Anyway, I did not think it was necessary for our parents to put up the money for these things for the high school and so I did not wear white that day . . . I did get a lot of dirty looks but I didn’t care!
It gives me the idea, thinking about that, that it would be really something if parents across the country would assemble in various places and form the pertinent letters –
oh, yes, it wouldn’t be covered by the national news media, would it?
But it could make a splendid part of a documentary if all the parents could collaborate with the videos of their particular group’s demonstration and compile it into one big beautiful view of “flyover country”!

When I was six, I understood that I was a boy and different from a girl. That was IT! The thought that I should become a girl never entered my mind.
