There are often questions raised about whether the crises created by the Biden White House policy are incompetence or intentional. For the group that believes ‘incompetence‘ is behind the chaos, well, they gained a significant data point today.
During a White House press briefing a reporter asks, “My question is about how the White House plans to prepare for food shortages, particularly as it comes to wheat …. should U.S. farmers grow more wheat this year instead of corn and soybeans given the possible food shortages?”
The Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, Cecilia Rouse, answered” …”farmers respond to price signals. So, with the price of food rising, they will be responding by making additional plantings and trying to take advantage of the increased price signal. So, the market will work as the market will work.” Please WATCH 16:32 Prompted
The reporter and the Chair of the CEA seemingly have no idea how long it takes to farm or grow a crop. As if switching from corn to wheat was just a Monday decision. Good grief, June/July harvests for winter wheat this year were planted in October of last year.
Changing a crop in the spring for harvest in the summer is not akin to changing your regular order of beverages at Starbucks.
Being in the far northern part of the country, we always had wheat in the ground hopefully by the end of April. But the purchase and treating of that seed certainly was not done on a dime. The planning was done months and months earlier.
Wow, when the reporter asked about Russia sanctions, she did not understand Russia grows wheat and thought Russia needed humanitarian food aid, not the other way around.
Under communism, we refused to sell wheat to Russia. They were starving. The Collective farming set up was crop failure, The Russian peasants did very well because the didn’t get welfare, they were permitted small garden plots which fed them well.
A large collective farm cranked out 10,000 pages of reports. and very little grain.
A Russian would get up in the morning dump fertilizer in a ditch, do his paperwork and hit the Vodka by noon.
The missing link in communism is motivation. No motivation for a good yield.
The idea for the collective came out of what to do with the large land holdings seized from the “kulaks” in the 1920s and 1930s, as sending some party bureaucrat out from Moscow was useless…they had no knowledge of farming. By making the local village that had worked the kulak landlord’s farm for generations past, and making them jointly responsible to get the land productive, with, in theory, incentives if they produced, it was thought they had a reasonable “incentive” plan. The only trouble was, when they did produce, often the collective wasn’t paid what they were promised, IF they were paid at all! Also, they were given quotas to meet, which often didn’t take into account the needs for crop rotation or what the land could actually produce. To keep the farmers working, they were allowed to work their own private, small plots, as they saw fit. The theory was that they’d use it to feed themselves, and work out disparity in what each produced by local barter. But once they got their own plots going, and they were a lot more productive than the “collective”, they not only produced more than enough to feed themselves, but plenty to sell. Indeed, a lively trade rose up, where either the collective set up a farmers market in the nearest city, and the homemakers of that city were quite happy to get food items that never were reliably in stock in the state-run stores!
It went “south” for these farmers simply b/c in time, as they became prosperous, they were perceived as the “new kulaks”, so often they were denounced as “exploiters” and/or “embezzlers of State Property” and so on. Their property and crops were often seized, leaving them destitute, so many refused to work anymore…hence the Holodomor of the 1930s in the Ukraine.
Holodomor was Stalin’s genocide of Ukrainians. Starving people traded dead children so they could survive without cannibalizing their own. Some hid in forests for years to survive.
The equipment to plant and harvest corn is different than wheat.
Food comes from a supermarket. (nods slowly)
Idiots.
Yes, because farm equipment is notoriously cheap, that’s why they have a separate set for each crop. /s
Joe B is no Joseph of the Bible.
Nor can he measure up to most Joe’s
Truthbetold, that’s the truth! We need a Joseph of the Bible!
Be your own Joseph
He’s more like Joseph Stalin.
Nope, Stalin was intelligent.
Josef Stolen..
If, as we expect, the White House is under the control of Marxists, they have no idea how an economy, or anything else for that matter, works.
Exactly! The White House is controlled by Bolshevik Marxists pissed off at Russia because it’s no longer Communist and run by Russian Orthodox Christians. It’s why they hate Russia so much!
Marxists gonna Marxist – translation: starve people.
Mass torture and painful death.
Maybe now we will all understand why so many Americans are so fat? Just gearing up for the lack of foods.
That’s because everything has been handed to them on a silver platter.
Marxist, and equality, because you know putting people in a job just to be fair works so well.
Nor do they care.
Overlay the current drought map on this one and you’ll see that, even if a farmer did plant wheat, they may not be seeing any growth. We’re very dry where I am, and I am in the middle of wheat country.
A farmer I know had just turned his cattle out into the wheat field to graze it. It won’t produce without water. He may put some weight on his cattle.
I am of the opinion that all of this is intentional. It’s too kind to say they are incompetent.
“They pretend not to know a lot of things.”
The social justice warrior personnel assignment Leading to maddening policy, is just a cover because the people above know what will result, it’s deliberate.
The motive seems to be to break the present system in order to introduce central bank digital currencies.
But the whole thing also reeks of Chinese influence so represents the method of a soft coup on our establishment from China and the British empire crowd.
When everyone is running around with the hair on fire they will offer the only solution allowed.
Starvation doesn’t have an agenda. China has billions to feed. Not taking up for them, just putting my point of view out here.
I agree with your point. We’re reaching the point where it’s [Country] first leaders doing for their people, whether they are authoritarian or not. We don’t have an America first leader in DC – ours is in practical exile in Florida.
Central bank digital currencies are not edible. If there are no crops available to purchase, the currency of exchange is irrelevant. We go hungry regardless.
Agree that it seems intentional.
This site has quite a bit of information about weather manipulation:
https://www.geoengineeringwatch.org/
I clicked there but all I could see was videos, whereas I’m a reader.
Almost all of the clicks are videos…..if I wanted to watch videos, I’d turn on the TV instead of trying to read what others have to say. like you, I am a reader also. Too bad there are just to many who don’t know about cut and paste for those of us who love to read.
I have severe hearing loss and videos, even with captions, are torture.
I was sitting in my car at the beach the other day and I saw what they are talking about in this documentary review happening in front of me:
I put out a lot of contrails in my day. Whether I formed contrails that day was a result of; “Contrails form when jet exhaust emits water vapor that condenses and freezes”. “The atmosphere where the plane is flying needs to have low vapor pressure and low temperature.
Some days some and some days none. It depends on the atmosphere at the altitude I was flying that day.
The skies over Northwest Texas today, looked just like the pictures in this video. It was a crisscross grid that completely covered the sky, the trails were low and it was very hazy. The last couple of weeks it has been very noticeable.
That’s frightening!
Our farmland we graze winter wheat. We have a couple of deadlines. We can get gubment check for not planting in the fall and we can get a check for plowing the wheat under or crop insurance.
When I was in H.S. I worked for a farmer and we swathed wheat and baled it. Baled wheat is good protein. Baled straw after wheat is cut is not good animal feed.
Pretty good bedding or weed block though.
Their puppet masters are NOT incompetent; yes, it is being done on purpose.
Secondly, the puppets are incompetent; must drive the puppet masters crazy!
Winter wheat, winter of death, Cornpop pony soldier. I vote “incompetence.”
I vote for a measure of both, as they forgot to understand that hungery people can get nasty, and many are A-2 supporter.
They’ve also let in many illegals from elsewhere who will be hungry as well.
They will create untold chaos to get food, all are criminal and many are straight up monsters.
Essentially, Zombies as shock troops.
… not to forget the “drug user” that is short on cash for another “hit”. Driver by a factor of 100 to get more cash. What ever it takes.
Thanks for 2A. Situational awareness.
Both. They are even incompetent at their corruption.
American Farmers don’t need a crop change they need regime change.
…with extreme prejudice!
Corn comes in cans from the grocery store, wheat from a box of Wheaties, and lattes are full of soy.
Posted this over on the Presidential thread, will repeat here.
From my little corner living in grain producing Wisconsin, not happening. I live in a rural area, three neighbors own family grain farms. Haven’t seen a tractor on the road yet, work from home and my office has a view of the road. The prices of fertilizers, diesel, propane, seed, etc. are weighing heavy. They cannot buy what is either unavailable or exorbitantly expensive.
I’m in SE WI, majority is corn and soy, one of the farmers will rotate in wheat or rye. He also fertilizes with manure so we’ll see. He just got a new batch of calves in (he raises and sells grass fed beef).
The New World Order!
I talked to a couple of farmer friends. One lives in Tennessee, the other in Washington state. Neither can afford the fertilizer prices. They aren’t fertilizing this year. Albeit their land is grazing land, so they grow grass, which turns into hay which feeds animals. It’s still an important crop. Very important.
That’s what we’re seeing here with anhydrous ammonia.
I really wish farmers would get Online and sell direct to us. I know some are bound by hideous contracts, but there have to be some prepared to sell?
How many bushels of corn do you need? My share of the small farm I have is about 2500 bushels if we get decent yields. I will mail it to you.
The farmer that rents my ground for corn is getting ready to plant in late April. His two big concerns are the price of chemicals and fertilizer for side dressing. He bought fertilizer for planting last fall. He is not planting marginal ground this year and saving his planting dollars for productive land. That includes mine.
It will soon be “those greedy farmers” that are blamed by the commies.
Not a joke. That’s what Stalin did.
I think I have heard this script somewhere before… “those greedy
farmersKulaks”.Count on commies being more or less predictable.
It was called Holdomor. In 1932-33, Stalin starved 3.5 million Ukrainian farmers to death by forcing them to send all of their wheat to the cities. Those who tried to pick up the few kernels of grain left after the harvest were shot to death. It has been condemned by the world as genocide.
Quite right.
I have been alluding to this on more than occasion by referring to all of the Climate Change and Green New Deal agendas as Holodomor 2.0.
People need to know the real history of Communism/Marxism, and all the other totalitarian regimes, whatever they call themselves. Central control and oppression of people by government always progresses to the use of deadly force, partly because of the predilections of the oppressors and also because it is an workable economic and cultural system. They keep luring adherents through impossible promises of utopia, and burying them in dystopia.
That is “unworkable,” not “workable.”
All of which are reasons why I am an avowed anti-Marxist/anti-Communist.
The point of these ideologies is a means to seize power through deception so the few can rule/control the many.
Recently Jordan Peterson posted a short clip in which he separated people into two categories: 1) accommodating people, who are agreeable and cooperative, and tend to form pleasant societies; and 2) the other 2 to 5% of humanity, which consists of liars, cheaters and psychopaths, who are likely to poison/disrupt well functioning social constructs. Off topic, but maybe interesting in light of our current political struggles.
Honestly, I’m not too happy with the local farmers right now. I look through the data base of ppp covid program payouts and every one of the local farmers has dang near every family member getting a $20K forgiven loan from big gov. Covid did not effect their business in the slightest. That free money dumped into the economy is a good part of the reason for the inflation we are seeing. No sympathy for them at all.
A faustian bargain, truly.
Yep, just like those “greedy oil companies”… couldn’t be the inept policies by this globalist regime!
I vote incompetence too.
They have absolutely no idea how any of this works, frankly because they are stupid and live in a bubble.
Wheat is in big trouble due to drought and in other areas AG is in trouble due to fertilizer.
Honestly, I think the Brandon team think that food shortages just affects the little people. You know the ones they need to cull. Or the ones they’ll give plant based meat to…………plant based.
I have both wheat growers and cattle producers in my immediate circle and all are very uncomfortable.
I vote purposeful imposition of incompetence.
If they are crafty enough to rig an election, they can prevent food shortages. Intentional.
I vote making crap up and getting lost in the crap.
well their main diet is human blood, so they think they’ll be fine
I blame the “81 million voters” who installed the demonic , evil little man. Who could be in agreement with what is going on other than communists and Marxists. And sheep, lets not forget the sheep.
He didn’t get 81 million votes, but I get your point. .
Satan considers Joe Biden to be one of his finest inventions and favorite pets.
It’s just plain wrong to speak ill of the dead.
lol
We need to cut off The Beltway’s supply line.
She certainly doesn’t look like the brightest bulb in the room. Maybe China Joe can use the front of the WH to plant some wheat.
Behind the newly built WH “Build back better” wall. If that wall doesn’t show their evil intent, I don’t know what does!
Everything is PFM. (Pure F’ing Magic)
Crops, electricity, water, it’s all PFM to these people.
Everything is Facebook, a video game, movies, and Harry Potter rolled up into decision making.
Get ready.
It’s what I’ve come to expect out of the B-B-B-Biden White House.
Like a man on the street thing where they ask a random question, say at a University: “Where does food come from?” 90% + would say,”the grocery store”. Another thing…keep in mind that these two, reporter/official, are supposed to be our best and brightest…wow!
To be just a little fair to Chairman Rouse she was fielding questions from the MSM without instruction from HQ. They reveal just how dumb they are when they speak or ask questions extemporaneously. Any type of self-awareness is forbidden for a leftist, as their delusions never hold up in reality.
God help us!
Major cause…along with the weather… of the Great Depression…G’ment wanted more wheat as such farmers planted more causing a glut and falling prices…farmers subsequently planted more to offset the loss of revenue and prices continued to tumble. Dust bowl conditions in the Midwest contributed to the disaster.
Bottom line…g’ment needs to stay out of the farmers business…
In order to be chosen to sit on the Council of Economic Advisors, you must be able to sit.
You forgot the “h”
For Hubris, of course.
We fell asleep lulled to sleep by deception and lies because we all are so smart and perceptive.
And now we have in charge the most ignorant on the planet who won’t allow you to to speak.
That’s what you get folks for just talking talking and listening to people talking and talking.
Enjoy your ride to oblivion while you chat amongst yourselves about how clever and devious they are.
I got your “we” part, but you buried your transition to the “you” part.
It sure looks like a post to try and draw someone to say something the FBI would be interested in.
They sure left out the part of what they are doing!
Thank you for calling it out.
Making it sound like a Deep State post from their “Fortified City”
These people surrounding Biden are incompetent ideologs!
One other thing that is rarely mentioned, the chip shortage is greatly impacting agriculture. Not so much the small farms with older tractors, but the mega farms are hurting, not just for new equipment but also repairs. They have some seriously high-tech equipment.
Yuup, lots of things one orders they expect you to pay up front but can’t guarantee a delivery time, or even guarantee it will ever get there. Just pay NOW and wait.
Apart from White House ignorance, watching which frankly is hardly worth my time anymore, this is interesting : Seems the price of machinery, fuel and fertilizer has gotten so high that small farmers are returning to using workhorses and manure, in order to make a profit !
The Amish always made money farming, altho they all have a side business for their off time
I was just thinking a few mules would come I handy right now!
well there are plenty of jackasses in DC
40 acres and a mule. Worked before, back when most people had callused hands.
Grazing beef uses less crude oil products (gas, diesel, fertilizer) and healthier and more food if done right. I heard that Joel Salatin’s “salid bar” beef costs less in NY city than the grain beef raised on corn/soy!!!
Major game changer if true — higher price was what swayed people from buying grass fed beef. Maybe someone in NY can comment on the prices.
Note, that USDA organic label does not mean much as the large multinational Ag companies may or may not be doing the right thing. Best to talk to your local grass fed beef farmer and see if they “finish” of the beef with soy/corn…
Environmentalists say cattle emit too much gas. I wonder how much gas is emitted by the machinery needed to grow a pound of vegetarian protein? And a more polluting kind of gas too!
Here in Niagara County (see light green on map), we are blessed to have diverse agriculture, from grain to livestock to orchards. We even have a working farm right here in the City of Lockport.
https://mccollumorchards.com/
plus they do not have to pay taxes on machines, or wait for parts from china
If the wheat for the bread costs too much, then let them eat cake!!
Northwest Oklahoma.
Planting for wheat to harvest this year was planted last year in September thru October..
No rain for 4 months. Just got some rain on wheat fields last week. You fertilize the wheat in spring right before a forecasted rain.
In this area on average is 30 pounds of nitrogen per acre to achieve the correct ratio in this poor, thin layer of topsoil. It is approximately right a $1000.00 dollars per 10 acres of wheat. These farmers here are planting thousands of acres of wheat.
Most farmers here either own or lease a section of ground. One section is 640 acres. They are farms with many sections that they farm.
Do the math! The wheat crop because of drought and then add Joe Bidens dumb ass on top of that.
The answer is the wheat crop at harvest here will be very poor. Most farmers are leaving cattle on the wheat because they can not afford to plant.
The chinese have bought many sections of land in the U.S. through the years. They also ran huge machinery to make it more profitable for the big farms….to get it done with less employment of small farmers….or employing more help.
“Let them eat price signals.”
Well DUH!! The grocery store will just need to order more wheat this year.
Retired Magistrate here: Delaware, Union and Madison Counties here in Ohio plant a lot of Winter Wheat. We have had a wet, cold winter, to wet in some places and there is still standing water in some fields. It will be another month or so before we will be able to tell whether that wheat has rotted or not.
Typically the farmers harvest the wheat right around the 4th of July, depending on the weather. After that many farmers plant soybeans in the same field hoping that the growing season is long enough for the beans to mature. It is not feasible to plant corn after the wheat is harvested because corn has a longer growing season.
I noticed something last year I have not seen around here before; farmers were planting soybeans interspersed with corn. Saw several fields like that. Don’t know what the yields were. Soybeans tend to enrich the soil and corn really sucks up a not of nutrients, so maybe that was the reason. Will be interesting to see if they try the same thing this year.
Thankfully, most farmers are good business people and do not look to the government for advice.
Maybe that is an attempt to save on fertilizer costs. Sounds like a good bet to me because warm weather has been lasting into December in many areas, so corn might mature.
Well when you think your food just comes from the store…
And if the price of food, gas or housing goes up, you get the additional money you’re entitled to by raising taxes on the people who produce it.
Never forget what Ben Rhodes said of today’s media reporter.
They truly are that dumb.
Yes…thank you Mizzou for turning out the worst and dimmest…
Give them some slack, electricity comes from that little hole on the wall (clean no fossil fuels used at all) and food comes from Whole Foods (no dirt or fossil fuels used anywhere). 😛
Plus Whole Foods stores have free charging stations for their customers’ Teslas!
And if wishes were fishes…….We’d be all set.
I learned something critical about gardening last year: I need a bigger garden.
Until you actually try to do it, it’s very difficult to get a comprehension of just how much space and time it takes to actually raise enough food to live on. I’d estimate that well over 90% of home gardens are just vanity projects. You work all summer long to get enough food for a week’s meals. If you’re lucky, and depending on what you plant.
I only plant butternut, pumpkins, green beans, toms and peppers. I can them all up.
Canning, blanching, freezing… Yup. We grow the produce you mentioned along with cucumbers, peppers, and yellow squash too.
Our 40’x60′ kitchen garden keeps both the pressure cooker and the food saver/vacuum sealer going through the latter part of the summer. And for three decades we’ve put up more than we consume, so we give friends and neighbors the excess. Some hobby…
Yup, serious gardening is a lot of serious hard work.
Heh. Yup.
Prepared food from the chain grocer -may- be more convenient for most metro-sapiens, certainly less time and effort is expended in the acquisition of the food stuffs… But growing your own is better, IMHO, in so many ways.
Much like buying a side of beef from a local, known rancher, or legally taking game from the field to the freezer or smokehouse.
Primative? To the core. A useful skillset? Indeed. Essential? Time and context will tell the degree to which such knowledge can be considered essential.
A good old boy once observed, in song, ” A country boy can survive.”
Moat serious gardens here in eastern Canada are 50% rows of potatoes.
Lol, I have seen people all excited with their dozen pea plants, and then came the harvest! Dinner for two lol
Well they will get what they ask for no more gluten.
The only way the multitude of failures makes sense is if they are being done intentionally.
See Cloward-Piven for reference.
You can include the invasion of masses of humanity on our borders in that strategy.
White House Message to farmers: FU. You’re on your own
Idiocracy was a documentary
Whatever they do, keep planting barley and hops.
I’m selfish.
When planning my little back yard garden or 4 raised beds, 4’x10′ it takes a couple of months of planning, acquiring the seed, preparing the beds.
The planting takes the least amount of time, and then there’s the growing; proper water, protection from unexpected/late freezes, etc.
With attention and work, in about 4 to 6 months depending on the crop, there might or might not be a decent harvest. If the birds didn’t get the seed, the deer didn’t eat the new shoots, the rabbits didn’t dig up the tender greens, etc.
Don’t you always plant the extra rows for the critters so they can eat too?
Best thing is to put up barriers. Deer can jump 6′, but only if they can see where they land. Rabbits will dig under a fence, so a corrugated metal skirting going at least 1′ down should suffice.
Check with your local County Extent Master Gardeners for more info.
(I’m certified their Cornell.)
These people are beyond incompetent. They are just plain stupid.
That’s what I’m relying on. 😁
Incompetence or intentional?
I don’t think they are mutually exclusive. It’s obvious the folks running the criminal regime don’t know what they don’t know. They lack self awareness of their own stupidity.
This woman and DOT Buttplug are prime examples.
Alinsky #2 “Never go outside the expertise of your people.”

Did have a strange artificiality to her.
First off they have no idea when wheat is grown, or anything else about farming for that matter. It’s like watching a bunch of Baristas from Starbucks being put in charge of a super max prison. What a clown show.
Recall Bloomberg describing how farming works? You just take a seed and put it in the ground and it grows and then you have something. It doesn’t matter how rich they are what kind of job they have if they work in a high position in the government they are all morons
Didn’t Biden once say something about farmers just dropped seeds in the ground and covered them up?
Bloomberg
Thanks for the correction – that’s why I couldn’t find the precise quote.
That was Bloomberg
It was Bloomberg. The left likes to say he was taken out of context but he wasn’t.
We seem like a clueless country, from the top down. Well, mostly the top. Well, actually all of the top.
How much trouble, I ask…

“Today, I spoke at the conclusion of the #Negev_Summit alongside the foreign ministers of USA🇦 UAE 🇦 Bahrain🇦Egypt🇪Morocco 🇦
What we’re doing here today is making history.
Building a new regional architecture based on progress, technology, religious tolerance, and security & intelligence cooperation. >>>
This new architecture, the shared capabilities we are building, intimidates and deters our common enemies – first and foremost Iran and its proxies. They certainly have something to fear.
>>> Last night, for the second time in a week, terror struck at the heart of Israel. Shortly after this attack, Islamic Jihad and Hamas praised it. They declared that it was a response to the Negev Summit that we are holding here.
>>> The terrorists’ goal is to intimidate us. To make us afraid to meet and build the relationships and agreements between us. They will not succeed. We will not let them. >>>
This meeting is the first of its kind, but not the last. Last night, we decided to make the #Negev_Summit into a permanent forum.

So now free market capitalism works in the view of the regime. Who would have guessed?
Won’t be popular on this site, but she is right, at least in part. That’s the reason why the futures market exists. Obviously, you don’t know exactly how big the harvest is going to be when it’s planted, but you sell a big chunk of it forward to lock in a price. The futures market for this year’s harvest is where the price signals come from.
No market can price in the unpredictable nature of Biden’s WH policy. So, although your illustration of the theory is correct, I don’t believe that it can be applied to current circumstances.
We’re on our own here.
When the signal is utter economic and regulatory chaos all bets are off.
July wheat closed today at $10.60 a bushel and September wheat closed at $10.42. You can transact it right now. It’s not a theory. If you think the wheat price is going to be above $10.60 in July, you can take a risk and wait for the harvest. If you think it’s going to be below $10.60, you can sell it right now while it’s still in the ground.
On the buyers’ side, if you think it’s going to be above $10.60, buy it now from the market. If you think it’s going to be below $10.60 in July, take a risk and wait.
That’s what the futures market is for, to remove the risk from both parties. People who don’t transact are choosing to accept the risk because they think they’ll come out ahead by waiting. That’s the way it works.
Cecilia Rouse is another ‘Harvard’ Bureaucrat….
Did you know 8 of the 9 SCOTUS went to Harvard or Yale Law School???…..Yea, I’m sure it’s nothing…..
I would not at all be surprised if there was a similar proportion for both houses of Congress.
These people are so stupid. You’d have to practice to be that dumb. They don’t pretend not to know things, they’re in their current positions because they are ignorant and just drool what they’re told. Not only do farmers not just ” change crops “, they grow crops based on so many factors, not the least of which is soil, water and weather inherent to their areas. These leftist morons head’s would explode if they found out there are several types of wheat that are used in different parts of the food chain. Many areas in the northwest only grow red wheat that is used primarily in pasta, noodles etc and has been a big dollar export. These idiots make my head hurt
Does it take different equipment to farm wheat versus soy or other grains? The answer is F$&& yes!!!! So she thinks they’re just gonna switch back-and-forth. She’s not taking into account also that there are increased cost drastically increased cost even if you can lay your hands on fertilizer. How many moronic people has he hired I guess all of them
The farmer that rents my ground can switch among all three (corn, beans wheat). There is some equipment that is used for all crops i.e. spray. There are others that are special.
Good grief what clowns! Next thing we’ll be hearing is Joe asking Corn Pop for advice on crops.
The pronounced economic ignorance and general ignorance displayed by the reporter was met with an uncaring bureaucrat stating a simple economic fact. The production process is time consuming with long lead times but, farmers, like any other rational economic being will respond to signals as best they can given their own unique circumstances which would include type and amount of land, equipment, and labor and their own forecast of the future given the lead times involved. The reporter no doubt, educated in collectivist la la land, probably thinks some political functionary is responsible for deciding who plants what, when, and where for the collective good like they do in all those cool countries where people starve to death. The chair of the CEA at least knows otherwise. Like the rest of us, she can only try to explain the policies being issued and watch the consequences.
