For the life of me, I don’t understand why more people cannot see what lies at the end of this road. The WEF crowd and the Putin/Xi crowd are both winning in this scenario.
The WEF team because the multinational corporations are now merged with government (VISA example above). The Putin/Xi team win because the U.S. dollar will no longer be the baseline of their trade initiatives (the BRICS monetary agenda). The only group who lose are the ordinary people, particularly the U.S. citizen who will be collateral economic damage in the outcome.
That’s where the domestic agenda of Biden/Obama step in to pave the way to take advantage of the crisis.

And water, food, clothing. If you know you are going to need something buy it now. The dollar is losing value everyday. I think gold and silver are good too, but the value will be set by the person you are trying to trade with. I’ve been trying to think about what I may have to trade for what I may need. My neighbors have chickens, they also have 8 kids. Will those kids need something I may have that I can trade for eggs? I don’t know, but I can sew, so maybe I can mend or make clothing for eggs. This is so crazy!
Was thinking along those lines too and thought spices. Eventually people will run out of cinnamons, nutmegs, stuff like that; the little things that make life a bit sweeter might be something to barter with without drawing attention to the bigger, more desirable canned items in ones secret storage spot.
Already have quite the fabric and thread stash, a habit from sewing over the years, and have held on to patterns for all different sizes from kids to adults; those may come in handy if things get that out of whack, as trade items, sewing someone a new pair of jeans in exchange for an oil change for the vehicle?
I must admit I didn’t think about spices, but yes that’s a good idea. I used to have a lot of patterns and I must admit the sewing machine absolutely frustrates me to death. I have a fair amount of scrap material though and I actually don’t mind hand sewing. I made my first hand made quilt 6 years ago and the only thing I used my machine for was to sew the binding together. I hand sewed it on. I found that I loved quilting thread, so I purchased a lady’s entire lot of machine quilting thread off of eBay. It’s not quite as nice as hand quilting thread, but still stronger than regular sewing thread. I recently went to lay in a supply of hand quilting thread and the price was outrageous. I bought a number of spools anyway. I also thought about feminine hygiene products. Those items will be sorely missed by women much younger than me.

I can’t imagine not having something. My mother told me the stories of her youth during the depression. I think many younger women would barter for these types of items if they were in short supply. If all modern conveniences were to be unavailable, hygiene products and maybe the little things like blush, powder, perfume may go a long way. I have drawers of samples I never used. Young ladies will always want to try to be attractive and if things get real bad they will be clambering for a nice mate to protect them. Maybe my age group can be helpful because these younger women don’t think they need a man. How wrong they are, but I suspect they will find out rather quickly that they most certainly do.
Lots of good women’s clothing items for sale this weekend in my local Goodwill and other charity shop. Brand names. Hardly worn. I have a lifetime supply of good shoes, too, although, sad to say, there haven’t been many nice events to wear them to in recent years.
OT, but just this morning before I came aboard here, I saw that two institutions that I cared about have become infused with horrible leftism: Scholastic Book Fairs held in elementary schools now are loaded up with garbage about trans-genderism and other perversions they are putting in children’s books. Check out your local school library as the fairs are taking place now; also some really creepy women are attempting to infest the upcoming celebration of the American Revolution’s Two-Hundred Fiftieth celebration with their wokeness. Be alert to this BS in your community. Horrible that this crowd has to wreck everything wholesome and good.

I’ve thought myself into a rabbit hole trying to figure out these same kinds of questions. One can only anticipate what is to come if/when the dollar falls and I believe that is the endgame. Maybe we will be issued the digital version of the US dollar, but you can bet it won’t be a 1:1 rate. It will be based on equity. That will take care of the case for reparations, and they will also monitor and control our every movement.

Yep, gold and silver are good choices. My husband and I keep a 6-month supply of dried food, plus we have a few months of canned goods. We should have enough to keep us going for a while, should the sh*t hit the fan. We are keeping as little as possible in the bank – enough to pay the bills. We do keep cash, even though it is getting devalued. We figure it will take some time before we are forced to go to another monetary system, such as a social/digital one.

For a couple of years, the post office would not scan a package when it was mailed if it had a discounted online label. So, the tracking didn’t go in and it was impossible to locate the package if it was delayed in delivery. The only way around that was to buy the postage and tracking at the post office and pay an additional amount – $1.00-$3.00 more per package. The USPS excuse was that it took too much time to scan the online package labels.
So, I would buy the postage and tracking at the post office and would pay for it with pennies. Lots and lots of pennies. I even went so far as to get pennies at the bank to pay the postage. It would have been faster for them to scan the package, rather than count pennies.
Eventually after USPS lost too many packages and found that scanning the package at its origin was helpful to them, they finally changed their policy. And so did I.

I shop at thrift stores a lot. One in particular has now stopped its annual “round up” routine to an every-single-transaction “round up” routine.
I got tired of being the only person in line who said “no.” So now I pay in cash and have a handful of change in my hand. When the total comes up, I peer at my hand and start scooting pennies and nickels around, looking like I’m really hoping I’ve got enough $$ to pay.

I’ve been arguing that stopping Visa and MC is hurting the lower classes in Russia- young families with children who need credit to live month to month between pay checks (like here). What I do not understand though is why no one was upset at Eastern ukraine bombing the Donbas region for the past 8 years, killing on average 3 people a day. I had never heard iof it until Putin ‘invaded’ Ukraine. Seeing that those in the Donbas region are Russian or decendents of Russians it would make sense that Putin protect Russians being bombed. Add in Joe telling China yeah we are gonna let Ukraine into Nato and you have a major reason. I have no idea if Putin is in the right but I am leaning that way due to the corruption in ukraine. Putin says he wants to denazify Ukraine, Ukraine laughs says we have no nazis yet their Azov troops are stasi Nazi troops with the same symbols and all. Using scenes from the netflix series Crimea didn’t help Ukraine’s truthtelling either, nor did showing pictures of zelensky from last April’s border inspection and saying it was from after putin advanced is another lie from ukraine. Ukraine says Russia is losing because they are taking so long to advance on Kiev yet refuse to let people know it is because they are trying not to kill or destroy. Russian troops are making refugee escape alleys for them to leave through, Ukraine is not where the fighting is. Also reports out about 14 bio-weapon labs that putin destroyed , one making airborne rabies. I do not see ukraine as the good guy here, nor do i see putin as the only bad guy. In fact I see Putin along the lines of someone who was push way to far, he complained but never ‘invaded when many other countries joined NATO after NATO saying the lines to the east would not change, that was in the 90’s, since then almost all the countries along Russia’s borders have become NATO countries.

Much of the current focus on the Ukraine war is currently on the shelling of the major urban centers of Kharkiv and Kyiv. And from a political and humanitarian perspective, that certainly makes sense.
But there is a broader strategic and economic perspective that I feel as though some are missing when it comes to the Russian campaign along Ukraine’s southern coast, currently focused on the week-long bombardment of the southeastern port city of Mariupol. If (sadly, I think this is now more of a case of “when”) the port of Mariupol falls, there will be little to stop Russia from sending troops west from Russia proper, through the Ukraine separatist regions, to the Crimean peninsula, and onward to Ukraine’s primary commercial port of Odessa.
Given the considerable effort Russia will have expended to reach Odessa, there’s little reason to expect them to stop there...
