Rather than remove any of the Canadian government restrictions and rules surrounding COVID-19 mandates, media are reporting that at 4:30pm today Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will instead invoke the Emergency Act, formerly the War Measures Act, to take emergency action to quell the ‘Freedom Protests’ taking place in Canada.
This is a rather remarkable development highlighting the severity of the totalitarian mindset behind the governing Liberal party in Canada. The current Emergency Act has never before been used.
(CANADA – via CBC) – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has told his caucus he will invoke the never-before-used Emergencies Act to give the federal government extra powers to handle anti-vaccine mandate protests, sources say. Those sources, who were not authorized to speak publicly, said the prime minister informed the premiers of his decision this morning.
The Emergencies Act, which replaced the War Measures Act in the 1980s, defines a national emergency as a temporary “urgent and critical situation” that “seriously endangers the lives, health or safety of Canadians and is of such proportions or nature as to exceed the capacity or authority of a province to deal with it.”
Trudeau is expected to explain his decision during a news conference at 4:30 p.m. ET. CBC News will carry it live.
The act gives special powers to respond to emergency scenarios affecting public welfare (natural disasters, disease outbreaks), public order (civil unrest), international emergencies or war emergencies. It grants cabinet the ability to “take special temporary measures that may not be appropriate in normal times” to cope with an “urgent and critical situation” and the resulting fallout. It is still subject to the protections of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. (read more)
In many ways this is the ultimate display of weakness from a national leader.
Think about it. The majority of Canadians want Justin Trudeau to do two things: (1) meet with the protest groups and come to a resolution for when the COVID mandates will end with a clear exit strategy; and (2) End the mandates.
Instead of doing either of the two things that most Canadian want to see happen, the regime doubles down on crushing the rebellion and maintaining their tenuous grip on the mandates.

They may be able to force their own truckers to work, but what will they haul?
The Teamsters support Trudeau, so there’s that. Of course that’s the union leadership…who knows how many rank and file support him.
Apparently, though, a strike would not be permitted(fines and/or jail?) under the Emergency declaration.
This is an ongoing, non-kinetic battle in the War for freedom.
So far, the Truckers have countered virtually every move of the enemy, all the enemies moves consisting of intimidation.
Always helpful to ask, of each side, in any conflict;
“What does “winning” look like?” (and implied, “How likely are you to achieve that outcome?”)
So, to the Gummint;
Winning is clearing, and keeping clear and flowing, all the ports of entry on US/Canada border.
Clearing all the trucks “blockading” downtown areas of Ottowa and other major cities, and by eliminating them, eliminating the supportive protests.
While perhaps relaxing SOME of the mandates, clearly and unequivocally maintaining the authority to reinstitute mandates which clearly violate charter rights, whenever we declare an emergency.
For the Truckers;
A Nationwide elimination of ALL mandates, and such actions as would assure us such mandates will NEVER be enacted, again.
The first is easy, so easy many at provincial level and parliament are moving in that direction.
The second is problematic; no “promise” or written guarantee, is likely to be considered sufficient to satisfy the Truckers; after all, the Gov has already violated the Charter for two years.
Only an open aknowedgement, by the Government, that there was NEVER any Data or Science to justify any aspect of any of the mandates (it seems to me) would satisfy this second requirement.
It is THIS which the Government won’t do, and this that leads to impasse.
Judge for yourselves the resources of the government, and of the Truckers, and the likelyhood of each “winning”.
IMHO, this is the nub of it.

Honestly “force tow trucks to tow trucks”.
Trucks do not tow trucks without drivers.
Is Trudeau really ready to put a gun to every ones head and force them to drive their trucks.

And who is going to drive the trucks that were towed? There can’t be a very large pool of CDL drivers or their Canadian equivalent, whether they choose to be Government scabs or not.

I hope they’ve factored in the hundreds who are lurking in obscurity in the outskirts of Ottawa, not to mention the scores of truckers who are also ex-military and know military tactics and infrastructure. I hope some folks not bereft of intellect calm things down. The truckers have been patient and peaceful and cooperative, to a fault.
The truckers appear resolute and their demands are simple. End the vaccine mandates federally and end the vaccine passport regime. That’s it.
As far as I know, the Military told him to pound sand.

Its NOT that, or at least not JUST that, and this is important to understand, going forward.
In Aus, there were big demonstrations in selected locations.
So, LE was able to bus in extra LE personelle from unaffected areas.
In Canada, the combination of the large demonstration in Ottowa, similar demonstrations in EVERY city of any size, AND the bordee crossing operations meant that the entire LE apparatus, city, province and RCMP, was stretched to breaking.
They could NOT “Surge and contain” and “kettle” protesters, using “shock and awe” to herd them like sheep, arrest some and get the others to run away, cause they simply couldn’t form such a force, without leaving many jurisdictions without any police.
With the military, assuming personelle (both military and LE) are willing (which issue will now force every officer to decide) they will have the manpower.
Lets see what happens,…
