In a rather jaw-dropping development, the crowdfunding organization is taking the position that Canadian officials have labeled the Canadian Freedom Convoy protest as an “illegal occupation” of the city of Ottawa. As a result, GoFundMe will not release the funds to the organizers of the protest, and will, instead, only transfer those funds to an authorized and credible charitable organization like “Black Lives Matter”.
The statement in Full:
♦ GoFundMe supports peaceful protests and we believe that was the intention of the Freedom Convoy 2022 fundraiser when it was first created.
♦ We now have evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity.
To ensure GoFundMe remains a trusted platform, we work with local authorities to ensure we have a detailed, factual understanding of events taking place on the ground. Following a review of relevant facts and multiple discussions with local law enforcement and city officials, this fundraiser is now in violation of our Terms of Service (Term 8, which prohibits the promotion of violence and harassment) and has been removed from the platform.
Organizers provided a clear distribution plan for the initial $1M that was released earlier this week and confirmed funds would be used only for participants who traveled to Ottawa to participate in a peaceful protest.
Given how this situation has evolved, no further funds will be directly distributed to the Freedom Convoy organizers — we will work with organizers to send all remaining funds to credible and established charities verified by GoFundMe.

GFM is emailing donors saying they plan to refund the money. I think they realized they cannot just steal it.
I’ll be happy to redirect that money to individual drivers which FC22 certifies are part of the effort, and to the organizers directly. There’s no law against giving people money.

GFM now realizes this and has decided to refund to the individual donors, each donation w/o the donor having to do any request. They still get interest of 7-10 days on the 10,093,000+$ as that is how long they say it will take to get the funds to the donors. Hope IRS is paying attention.

Yep, my bank blocked my “dispute transaction” request and the website said I had to call. So I’m thinking GFM alerted banks to expect a wave of refund requests.
FC22 should set up a means to connect donors directly to truckers who FC22 has verified are on the ground in Ottawa. I’ll be happy to wire my donation to a driver or to the organizers directly. There’s very little that could be done without the government seizing the assets of the drivers which would be tougher to do if the organizers set up an account out of Ottawa’s reach.

Of face of it, Canadian police chiefs just conspired with gofundme to commit a petty grand larceny so their subordinates and superiors arguably merit dishonourable discharge for complicity in the misfeasance.
Accordingly holding police department, city counsellors and federal legislators mutually and severally liable with GFM for losses arising would have been perfect response historically – particularly if a lien on the civil service pension funds could be realized lest expenses vastly outweighed the nominal sum in dispute.
Increasingly questionable whether integrity in the justice system can be assumed though so any such action these days would need to be done with a disruptive objective, rather than in expectation of recovering losses and reputation, in order to be sure to avoid further frustration (and disillusion) with systemic bias.

Their statement said that it WILL be automatic, that the donor does not need to do anything, but it will be 7-10 business days before they see their funds. Why does it take that long to get a refund when it only took seconds for the original transaction from the donor to GFM?

Lesson learned. GoFundMe also has a business model. They charge a fee for holding and transferring of the funds raised (and probably earn a nice interest while holding it). #NEVER MORE contribute to any individual or organization through GoFundMe. If you can’t do it directly, don’t do it. How soon will GiveSendGo go woke? Until then, they also have a site to contribute. Perhaps Trump and Nunes can incorporate something into their upcoming platform.

Saw a tweet from Donald Trump, Jr encouraging everybody to contact their state Attorney Generals to stop the steal of donations for the truckers. Corporations can’t get away with deceiving donors and engaging in deceptive advertising practices. I know I say can’t. I just meant legally but who does things legally. But if enough citizens contact their AG, then possibly there is something that can be done to a corporation that outright steals citizens donations. Email, call just contact them and you will at least have made an effort to hold them accountable.
Watch out. Once you have given permission to use your money, they can legally keep it under those circumstances. Kaspersky did that to me. I had a horrible time trying to reach them. I had given them permission to take funds from my account for their virus protection services, then I stopped using them.
What I FAILED TO DO WAS CANCEL that permission. A year after I stopped using Kaspersky they charged me $91.00. My bank could do nothing because they had my original permission. BEWARE of all monetary actions like that. Once burned, twice learned.

GoFundMe sent me an email this morning stating that they are going to refund all of the donated money for Freedom Convoy 2022.
I would encourage FC22 to set up an “adopt a driver” program. Link donors up with truckers in the city and let people donate directly to the driver through Venmo or Zelle. I would be more than happy to take my GFM donations and wire it directly to a driver who is certified by FC22 as a legitimate member of the convoy. It sounds from their pressers like they have a very good idea who is really a part of the group.
How are they going to refund it?? Do you have to take some action that they haven’t disclosed to get it?

They have two choices now that the truck protest has been declared an “illegal occupation”. One, release the money to the intended recipients. That’s not going to happen. Or two, refund said money to those that made the donations. That’s all. As far as I can tell GoFundMe doesn’t have the authority/right to divert that money to a third-party charity of their choice. They do not have any authority for anything else. Just my two cents.

ok my Give Send Go donation DID process…I checked my credit card online account and it is there…I wasn’t sure since it seemed to be locked in a processing loop and after a few hours i just exited the page.
I have since read about a tactic of paying 200 or so to initiate an “arbitration”…and then Go Fund Me will have to incur over 2,000 in arbitration fees PER DONOR!! Maybe this is the way to go to put them out of business?
Any legal minds out there can tell me if I can still request arbitration even though I have filled out the refund request?

As long as people on the right remain addicted to the ease and comfort of the shiny things the left provide, this will continue to happen. There are alternatives but we are too busy calling everyone on our side “controlled opposition” to find them.
I’ve read that what really defeated the Native Americans was that they, too became addicted to the “shiny things” that they got from the White traders. They liked the ease and comfort these things provided, so they didn’t notice that the land was slowly being taken by the Whites.

Online disputes for GFM charges on AX are being denied with remark go to vendor for refund. I called in and reopened dispute with a few choice words about GFM denial of contract service. I told that I did not think AX wanted to deny disputes since service was not fulfilled. I told them I would close my account if this dispute was not fulfilled. If other CC companies are pulling this reply you need to call them and demand dispute service.
But Go Fund Me got an ‘epiphany’. When all of the bank transfer refund requests started coming in and they saw how much it was going to cost them they had a change of heart and said they would refund everyone automatically. We will see if they include their ‘fee’ in the return. Guess they had to shut down their ‘evaluate us’ site bc of the bad publicity. It won’t end well for them as it ‘was’ one of the most used.
