The empty shelf problems in/around DC last weekend were mostly due to regional weather and employment issues. However, the snapshot represents an example of how people react to their first encounter. The conditions in the video represent a worst case scenario for those who have been watching the supply chain issue coming over the horizon. {Go Deep}
I doubt our average 2022 result will be this bad overall, however, there are areas where this might be the status. For most people outside urban areas, this severity of a food store shortage is unlikely, unless the federal government gets involved. If the federal government intervenes, this will be more common.
We know from prior examples, if these types of conditions were to last for just 72 hours across every store in a metropolitan region, you would see a level of panic begin. Civic stability remains relatively stable for 72 hours (3 days). However, if these conditions are persistent for more than 3 days, the general mindset of the population changes quickly. Things rapidly deteriorate. After three days, all reference points for civic norms are gone.
Those who remember Miami-Dade, specifically the Homestead region, in the aftermath of hurricane Andrew have a solid reference for what happens. New Orleans after hurricane Katrina was a lesser, albeit more public version. Hunger, fear and desperation are not a good combination.
{Background on Larger Issues HERE}

Why is almost every person in that video smiling and laughing?
Is that what’s called a nervous laugh, or something else?
They are laughing because they know that everything is just fine. Joe Biden & Cackling Harris will make everything better very soon.
if you live in the imperial city you will be taken care of before the peasants.
There are a lot of areas in that city that are far from imperial, and no walls to separate the tribes.
It means they don’t know whats happening or where its leading. They have cute little signs posted saying their trucks are stuck in snow up North.
Well, we all know how the shelves get empty when it snows…
(Riiiight. )
Because they’re oblivious.
nature/darwin will take its course and we will have less useful idiots.
no worries
This is funny. If it ever went more than 3 days in DC or its inner suburbs the hipsters and other progressives would be somebody’s lunch.
I have noticed through life that there is a 3 day limit. Fourth day something must be done.
new focus words – Day 4
Day 4
Ahhh, we can hope so.
Rumor was the liberal darling Robert Mugabe (the mass murdering psychopath dictator who stole his elections in Rhodesia) was a cannibal. Cannibalism is still practiced there. To show brutality of what could be in Democrat cesspools I can show you videos of Africans chopping flesh off of living cows. Could be future here in Diversity overrun Blue States and Blue areas.
Interesting. So Mugabe was a supertanned second cousin to the Podesta family?
Thanks. That image will haunt me for months to come. Geez.
Interesting. In scripture, the 3rd day is the day of atonement when one is rescued. It is thought that the three days of a contrite heart are necessary for repentance.
I could run with this metaphor, but you can use your own thoughts.
Well there’s a comforting thought. No reason to freak out until the fourth day, then.
After a hurricane left my area without power for a week, I found out that what I really missed was coffee. People lined up for blocks just to score one cup of coffee.
No kidding about coffee.
That and cold water.
Retired Magistrate here: Both Biden and Obama are big admirers of FDR and pattern a lot of their policies after his communist/socialist policies.
During the Great Depression (1929 to 1939-1940) FDR implemented the National Recovery Act. Businesses could not do business without an NRA (no, not National Rifle Association) sticker in their window. FDR placed price controls on everything along with other restrictions on business. The only thing the NRA did was to prolong the Great Depression. I look for Biden to follow FDR’s footsteps and place price controls on items in an attempt to control inflation (which of course will only make it worse plus the supply will get worse) along with other restrictions on producers, distributors, etc. Eventually the Supreme Court overturned the National Recovery Act as unconstitutional along with many other of FDR’s policies, executive orders, etc.
The Supreme Court’s decision on the OSHA vaccine mandate will tell us a lot about what this Supreme Court is willing to do to shore up a failed presidency.
No matter what happens with the Supreme Court, make your little island an island of freedom and liberty.
Current Chef here:
Always thicken with a well cooked roux, rather than a slurry of a starch and water 😜 /s
Ugh, I hate when people add flour as a thickening agent and cook it like one minute. Minimum five minutes of pretty decent heat, like the lightest roux acceptable.
Golden brown.
we don’t call it a roux in the south. we call it gravy.
and we don’t dare cook it for less than 5-10 minutes…depending on how thick we want it.
for instance. when I make squirrel gravy to go with the biscuits, I cook it about 10 minutes and make sure I have the squirrel minced and cooked to the point of perfection so it’s just juicy when you get a bite of it with the gravy.
flavor with salt and pepper and a hint of mint and you will have a breakfast that will make people break their arms cause they eat it so fast.
🙂
Depends…. a white roux for bechamel, a dark roux for brown sauce. Done right, both are nutty and the bechamel is delicious: roux, bechamel, good cheese, heavy cream….
… Good food has no calories… 😉
C’est tres bon!
Me too. No other way.
No matter what happens with the Supreme Court, make your little island an island of freedom and liberty.
Don’t forget to add guns and ammo to your island, to repel boarders and communists.
Retired Magistrate here: Done and done. Plus we live at the top of a steep, winding driveway and have an excellent view of who or what is coming up the driveway.
If it’s cold run a garden hose and have the driveway freeze solid.
No, then we couldn’t get out. My husband has cancer and heart disease so we do have to get to the doctor. Sometimes after a snow and then rain, yes, it turns into ice. Even with four wheel drive it is very exciting to get up or down our driveway. I pray at the top of the driveway and thank GOD when we get down in one piece.
add? I make my own of both. 🙂
The SCOTUS shut down most of FDR’s agenda… it took them a while, but they did…
…so when the Japanese were trying to declare War on the US, the FDR administration refused to listen to them. FDR needed a War.
It was a Day of Infamy, but not for the reasons they taught you at school.
Our neighbor, Mr. Arnold, was born in 1926 on the ranch next to ours. He told me of the day FDR’s guys paid his dad a pittance for the purpose of reducing his herd size. The cows were herded into the back corner nearest the creek, shot and left for dead, no harvesting. Mr. Arnold Sr. was allowed to keep a percentage for re-population.
The purpose was to collectively reduce the supply across the nation and therefore increase the price in the battle against deflation / depression. In 90 years, the Feral Government hasn’t learned a thing about economics.
After the SC overturned his policies, FDR tried to pack the court, if I remember my history correctly. Luckily he was unable to do so.
Didn’t need to. They caved.
And that’s why the federal government gets to tell you that you can’t grow wheat for personal consumption if they say you can’t.
Lochner. Blech.
Expect to see that line of legal cases rear its ugly head. The Constitution protects citizens from a public taking without just compensation, but the federal government’s right to regulate “interstate commerce ” drove a hole a mile wide through that protection.
In good times, the dairy farmers can negotiate a price support and make a decent living. In bad times, with a Communist government, someone’s going to end up eating the cows.
Wage and price controls (coming soon also).
To stabilize prices, FDR made it a crime for storekeepers to have a sale.
Bureaucrats will determine all wages and prices (and everything else).
The reason why leftists incessantly use the word “fair”, and what fair means to them, will become clear.
Price controls were tried and Ford pushed the WIN
(Whip inflation now), for the Rio Linda crowd
hard for them to price me out of my own livestock. and if they want on the property they better have a warrant
we were a nation long before we had a supreme court. 🙂 Marcia, I’m all for law and order however no one has the moral authority to order me to do something that will hurt myself or my family.
i will ignore that order.
if that makes me a bad guy then make the most of it.
The Marxists in DC who support Communism can eat cake
And the Soros DAs and judges who are letting dangerous criminals walk the streets will hopefully get a dose of their own medicine
Amen.
Sorry…but no sympathy for anyone in DC…
Shortages demand and validate rationing.
The allocation of all goods and services becomes the rightful privilege of the State.
Leftists love this stuff.
And perhaps the unvaccinated won’t get the same share of the food? Or any food?
People actually tolerated this for years, during World War II.
The missing element, that makes people far more amenable, is patriotism.
Fascism without nationalism is a ham sandwich without the ham. It’s why the Democrats are guaranteed to fail (thankfully).
The other saving grace is all the pain that the corporatist executives must be feeling about now.
Their delusion that totalitarian bureaucrats would take the side of for-profit businesses, long-term, is simply hilarious.
Raptors2022: I guess the Dems will have to skip fascism and go straight to communism.
The fascists and communists had a friendship pact (Hitler and Stalin). It didn’t end well.
At present, our corporate class and billionaire class think they’ve created a government that will place their interests first. The egomania of the rich produces a special kind of stupid.
Sundance has explained that the Fascism 2.0 coming up will be corporate led and government-with-guns implemented. Somebody should tell the participating corporations that, soon enough, one of their fellow corp-leaders will be made head of government.
It may ‘look’ like a move downward on the org chart, but that astute fellow will inevitably turn the guns of power on all others. There is only room for one at the top.
well..since my entire mililtary training was used to kill communists…I say let them.
won’t take me long and we can sort this out right there on the pavement.
In Henry Kissinger’s 1974 report “National Security Study Memorandum 200” (NSSM 200), he directly targeted overseas food aid as an “instrument of national power.”[3] The policy shifts during the 1970s were toward increased deregulation, which meant increased private regulation by the large and powerful global corporations. This led to an increase in corporate mergers and the rise of transnational corporations (which today often have larger gross domestic products than many nation states).[4]
They will prioritize food for the triple vaccinated and people of color because of equity….LOL!
NYC is prioritizing test and AB treatments for minorities so you are not far off. Not funny though.
Lend Lease. Shipping out food, nuclear & military tech, and military equipment to the mass murdering holocausting Soviet Union. Our people were rationed to give the mass murderers everything.
They did the same thing with China, gave them our military, nuclear, and industrial tech and our m,anufacturing infrastructure. treason. Our Government has been stealing our tech and inovations and giving it to the communists who cannot invent anything (except misery and mas murder) only modify what they steal
Could it be that a lot of truckers are disgusted with DC, and are simply declining to deliver there?
i doubt it.
the truckers were supposed to show their power 10 times ago and it never happened.
They have their families to take care just like the Nazis..only doing their jobs.
Could it be that vaccination requirements are a factor?
Do you think it is because Mayor Bowser is requiring vaccine proof to go out on the street in DC? Truckers going there would be required to be vaccinated.
Would cities where trucker vaccination isn’t required be less likely to have delivery issues? What about Charlottesville or Roanoke VA?
GOOD.
Suck it up bitches.. Stop by obamas crib, he’ll hook you up with anything you need……
Yup. A little sign saying you can find all the food you want at (Any rich democrats DC address here).
That should do the trick.
Every house that had a bidophlie or bernie sign probably has a huge pantry. They’ll share.
Nancy Pelosi has a fridge full of ice cream 😉
IMO, the the signs say Biden but what they mean would be Obama.
hah i have a huge pantry and I won’t
He’d probably like for someone to date up big mike, 😉
BOOHOO
I heard the guy tell his teenager today the reason for the shelves being empty “is cause too many people live here”
It’s dire but sometimes god decides to build an arc.
He probably follows Bill Gates.
Whew Puzzled, NOW here is a lightning bolt of reality!
The vaccines may fix that reason…
And many still aren’t connecting the dots.
They will never do that; Democrats do not see cause and effect. I know from my sisters who are life long Dems; they do not see the connection between who they vote for and what is happening. They just do not get it.
Perhaps we need to return the USA’s voting requirements to those in effect a couple centuries ago:
Or they pretend not to get it in order to get through the day.
No, they really do not get it.
her vote is an icecream flavor selection for that days feeling.
to shallow to go past the LIE PROJECTED BY THE POLITICIAN to extrapolate the damage to follow
Barry Soetoro must be beaming with pride. Everything going according to the commie plan. And speaking of Mr. O, his wife is busy, busy, busy doing her part to enshrine election fraud so it’s baked into the system.

America being able to surive the onslaught, and waking up to reality IS NOT WHAT BARRY EVER DREAMED.
his nightmare is coming.
One can only wonder about the potential new meanings of “roasting Congress”…
What a bunch of sheep, wearing masks outside, except one woman…….I bet not a one of them realize they rely on red America to stock the grocery stores…..simpletons…..
Stores being that empty does not happen because of a 6-8″ snowstorm!
It can. I’ve seen it many times in Portland, Oregon. People who aren’t prepared panic.
They see the snow coming down, they hear the weatherman saying it could be a long
couple of days worth coming down and the shelves and coolers empty out in less than
a day.
Arizona here. Heard today it’s happening here at a Walgreens. No snow. 73 degrees sunny.
Yep, it’s a regular occurrence with snow and ice storms.
The “nice looking lady” on the television tells them to make sure they have bread, milk and toilet aper and off to the stores they go. Always makes me wonder, do they only buy toilet paper when the people on the TV tells them to??
Just as long as there is no shortage of popcorn.
lol. Sadly, I can’t eat popcorn anymore. But I appreciate the thought none the less.
Was shocked to see how well stocked Smart and Final was. Spent $400 and ran out of room on the cart buying bulky.
Wife was cautioning me from over doing it and her mom told her what I’m preparing for is “impossible”. I made sure to buy things I can eat by the expiration dates.
Expiration dates don’t mean a whole lot for canned and dry goods.
Yep. Sell by dates and eat by dates are quite different.
I checked the expiration dates on my stock of vacuum packed tuna and salmon and it is three years out. These are good items to stock up with for the future. I am talking about those packages they stock with the canned meats/fish…really a good deal for stocking up on.
They are quite space-efficient.
I just spent $353 today at the local LDS Home Storage Center which is open to the public here in Utah. Bought six cases of big #10 cans of freeze-dried, vacuum-sealed sliced carrots, apples and chopped onions as well as three types of dried beans. Already have quite a few cases of rice, potatoes, flour and wheat (for grinding, with hand grinder which can also work with electricity). Also have a solar cooker in case of gas or electricity outage.
Living in FL when I see this all I see are the masks. I go deaf when I see people outdoors wearing masks. Forgive me. We love you Governor Ron!!
Three days? Do people keep that little food in their kitchen that they will be literally going hungry? What? I mean, I don’t have a lot but I have soups, beans, peanut butter, bread. I don’t understand.
And it doesn’t take a lot of money to have some hot dogs, pb&j, cup of noodles, box of pasta, etc. around to milk out a few days. Especially if you live in an area that could easily get a few rough days due to snow.
In the big city, mostly inhabited by “professionals”, a lot of people eat out, pick up take out, rely on meals delivered, or drive through. They don’t actually have “pantries”.
And if you listen to AOC, they don’t have garbage disposals either.
All those highly educated people and they wouldn’t have a clue how to fend for themselves. These are the people who are running our country!
I work in a market, and you’d be surprised how many people are daily customers. Some live in smaller confines and don’t have the room to store ahead. Many are elderly or have physical issues, and cannot handle more than a bag or two in a trip. Others prefer to eat fresh, some don’t know how to cook with items you’d keep in your pantry, and some have nothing better to do all day than come to the store and hang out.
I had a neighbor who had no food in his house to eat for one day…we had a bad storm…he had to go out to the store or he would have had nothing to eat.
Biden’s Vaccine Mandate on truckers will cripple the Supply Chain.
Do you think it is because Mayor Bowser is requiring vaccine proof to go out on the street in DC? Truckers going there would be required to be vaccinated.
Would cities where trucker vaccination isn’t required be less likely to have delivery issues? What about Charlottesville or Roanoke VA?
I did not know that Mayor Bowser has required proof of vaccine.
Looks like the Truckers boycotted DC.
There was a lot of food in the Winchester and Stephens City area stores.
Mayor Bowser issued an order that goes into effect January 15. Proof of vaccination required for restaurants, bars, indoor exercise, and event meeting establishments. This would probably make it inconvenient for truckers delivering in DC. Just a rough guess that probably at least 40% truckers are unvaccinated, or not “up to date.”

Except chicken. Martins in Stevens City was well stocked except chicken. Even Gores our local butcher is out for another 8 days.
Used to camp at the Cove often when I lived in NoVA. Gore was the closest place to get anything forgotten.
I quip from time to time when I comment on SM that I keep a list of addresses of unarmed liberals… when SHTF they are going to be my source of supplies and slaves. Tic Toc … Tic Toc.
Kissinger: “Control oil and you control nations; control food and you control the people.”

but the Democrats of Columbia voted for this.
O’biden is setting up a website where we can order meals for at home delivery. Same site as where we order at home covid tests. Beta site has cheese as the only option.
“Residents shocked to see grocery stores with no food.”
If you really want to blow their minds tell them vegetables grow in dirt like magic and you can eat them.
Suppliers should deliberately refuse to deliver anything in or surrounding DC
That’s why it’s much better not living in a city. If things ever got really bad, city dwellers are gonna be hungry and defenseless.
Worse than that, DC area has a very big MS 13 population and the local law enforcement is too woke to do much at all if the S really hits the F.
MS-13 vs black gangs. Where I used to live the Browns and Blacks would fight and kill each other all the time. A mexican who was in the Mexican army who I knew, was a little guy but tough. he got jumped by 2 blacks who were trying to bag his paycheck, he beat the tar out of them. That was an ongoing thing with Blacks jumping Browns for their money on Fridays. The Communist media tried to hide it because they were 2 of their voting bases/blocs. They want them hating white people, not fellow democrat Browns or Blacks
Meanwhile in DC
Sacramento ground report, from Sprouts grocery store.
First time there in awhile and once I began looking for short supplies and empty shelves, that’s all I saw.
Produce section was fine, most is semi-locally grown.
Loaded up on some staples.
It’s not the weather out here causing the issue.

Heads up Central Ohio Treepers-
Kroger ad flip tomorrow. There are some stock up items if you haven’t prepared yet, or want to add to your supplies. I would try to shop in the next few days, as they may be out of stock by the weekend.
-Angus Ground sirloin 90% lean: $3.99 lb
-Kroger Butter: $1.97 lb.
-Progresso Soups : .99 a can when you buy 10 (at our Kroger you must buy the initial requirement and extras are sale price)
-Kellogg’s large cereals (select varieties): $1.47
There are other items in the ad, but these were the front page loss leaders.
They are slowly strangling us. They are gradually getting us use to having nothing. “You will have nothing and be happy” Klaus Schwab. FJB
A kind reminder to those in the video that it usually snows in the DC metro area around this time of year, but for the first time in recent memory, under Joe Biden, they are now experiencing food shortages.
So, I ordered some freeze dried hash browns the other day…. But only after I had ordered and paid for them did I realize than instead of buying the small 4.5g packages I had bought two 2.4 lb boxes…
Oh well… I might have to buy some dried eggs to go with that! We’re gonna have hash browns for a while.
Not a bad dinner at all…. eggs, hash browns, pancakes, sausage (*), and some more hash browns (**)
(*) No bacon. ;-P
(**) I ordered ketchup too.
If you have a vacuum sealer, you could make smaller packages, from the 4 lb container.
This particular buying phenomena may more related to the media hyped up COLD SNAP on its way there?
Outside with masks on.
morons
Hard not laugh. Sad to say, I am not feeling much compassion for them now or when the SHTF. They are about to learn and live their liberal socialist utopia.
I hope that anyone who voted for Biden gets a good acquaintance with food shortage and inflation. This administration is the most incompetent and ignorant bunch that has ever graced the White House.
Agreed. Hopefully they are removed from office in handcuffs to face high treason on down crimes
North western Virginia, went to store today local market chain (not Wally World) its here. Frozen potatoes almost all gone. No more in stock. Fresh potatoes also gone. Most other items still in stock. produce looked good.
What happened to that black woman that Joe Biden said was stocking the grocery shelf in October 2020?
Thumb up not good enough.
That was wicked sharp.
Kudos.
I can’t over how they are all wearing masks..almost impossible to understand what they are saying. What a bunch of morons.
Do these people know that they have to remove their masks to eat. I mean in case deliveries catch up.
Starbucks is open
Kroger in Colorado. Shelves are bare according to a friend, and the workers are going out on strike tomorrow!
https://www.reuters.com/business/strike-king-soopers-stores-imminent-wage-talks-with-union-fail-2022-01-11/
https://www.supermarketnews.com/retail-financial/strike-looms-kroger-s-king-soopers-colorado
On Jan. 3, King Soopers grocery store workers who are members of UFCW Local 7, voted to go on an Unfair Labor Practices strike in stores across Colorado. Stores that held strike votes reported “yes” votes of more than 98 percent. Workers are set to strike this Wednesday, Jan. 12. Other local unions, such as BCTGM local 26 and Teamsters local 455, have already offered solidarity with the UFCW strike.
The Unfair Labor Practices strike is a result of King Soopers offering high pay to non-union workers to perform union jobs, as well as other “effort[s] to prevent workers from securing a new contract advancing wages, health, and retirement benefits, and [not] ensuring a safe place for employees to work and customers to shop.” https://www.liberationnews.org/kroger-workers-in-colora-vote-to-strike/
Wouldn’t it be great if all independent truckers decided not to take loads into DC?
.
Even if just a small percentage of truckers quit take loads there it would make it very difficult on keeping shelves stocked.
.
Dispatchers would tear their hair out.
.
Family members of mine used to take a pass on loads to certain areas and States, they would avoid California, NYC and Chicago along with other flaky places. ( My family members that trucked went to be with Jesus in 2009. But if they were alive today, the traffic along would have them skipping loads to DC.)
.
Miss you so much David and Celeste.
Just got home from a Northern Virginia Giant Foods store.
Parts of the grocery store were stripped. No tomatoes, potatoes, avacados, greens, peppers. Rest of produce really scarce. Not a single egg. Milk almost all gone. Dairy and cheese thin. Frozen food had big gaps, like lasagna. Lots of bread and pastry. Some dry/canned items missing. Oils and vinegar picked over.
Joe Biden predicted this! He’s a genius.
First job at 13, farmers slaughter house, 2 cows 4 pigs per day, local gardeners picked up the stomach feed to spread on their fields. Good lessons!
If the urban areas see food shortages, the Feds will order food from the country to the city because of “equity” -ie race.
Then the fun begins.
America is wildly over fed. It would take a collapse of famine level proportions to bring food levels down to the point where longer term problems emerge.
I have family in France, and and they are just continually in awe of the massive levels of food availability, variety and quantity in the US.
Anyone who resides in a Democrat-run city/town/state deserves the worst their elected Democratic “leaders” have orchestrated in order for these corrupted miscreants to feed their insatiable desire for power over their subjects (aka citizens).
or they get first fun once this all goes south.
My family lives in a blue area without the ability to move away. Your sentiments towards me and mine and those like us are noted.
you have the ability to move. all it takes is to pack up and go.
you can get gas. God knows there are jobs aplenty.
what you want is no longer relevant. what you have chosen is at hand.
You haven’t moved recently, have you.
Well, we did, 7 years ago, after living in our house for about 43 years.
There is always a way if you and the family see what is coming if you stay.
We know what it costs. Hindsight has 20-20 vision; sell everything and just do it.
You can buy new where ever you settle. It will be a savings, more than you know.
We have nothing to sell. We have no furniture aside from a $200 couch and mattresses for the boys and us. We live in an apartment with a roommate to make the rent. We have three children four years old and under. We have one car. The most expensive item in the whole residence is my computer I use for work.
I’m glad it was that easy for you. It’s not for everyone.
You just contradicted yourself. If you have so little, it should be easy to pack and go.
Plenty of red states and cities that will more than welcome you and your family.
Obviously you don’t have a REAL job pal….I quit my job and moved my family of 4 1200 miles to do what I do now. I took job that I had ZERO experience in. I applied myself to it and did much better. STOP making excuses and get it done…
Hey,
What do you need? We can help write a resume for you, or give you some ideas on next steps. We may even know people in your area.
Don’t listen to those who come on here to be holier than thou. Ask, you may be amazed at the outcome
I don’t buy your narrative now that you have contradicted it.
You did make a good point that moving can be too costly to do. I think you need to figure out how to get it done on your own before you actually get too old to do most of the heavy lifting. That is when moving becomes a little more serious problem. You will just have to trust me on that, for now.
“get it done on your own before you actually get too old to do most of the heavy lifting.”
Hey, that’s what friends are for!
Can’t count the number of times I’ve helped others move (and been helped) over the years, especially in college and grad school.
To be candid, as a rural Texan (born and raised) I worry about blue-city people moving here. They so often just keep voting for the policies that ruined the place they fled, spreading the poison. They’re disastrous, like illegals who refuse to assimilate.
Californians coming here remain a classic example, as are New Yorkers flooding southern Florida.
Just bein’ honest…
keep faith, keep reaching out. it will happen, I’ve been there and recognize you… Sometimes it just takes stepping out into the unknown. I did it years ago when I saw the sh*tstorm coming. Told my wife if we don’t leave NOW I’m either going to end up in jail or dead. Got her attention and we ran away, small uhaul and an ancient toyota with two small children…into the unknown. Best move I ever did in my life. Major adjustments painfully made but end result was knowing I did the best I could and have a much better life than I ever knew possible. You can do it. Don’t know how to message each other here but if you can let me know i can give you more details and help if i can. Adjustments? Here’s a hint, your brothers and sisters are rural.
I’m in SC; red state, blue municipality. Born and raised within five miles and I refuse to leave my home. This is where my family has lived for generations, and this is where I will raise my children with full knowledge of their heritage. Political administrations come and go, Charleston is forever.
We’re in the suburbs – actually in what amounts to a little village between a commerce park and the interstate – so, as far is living situation goes, I’m not really worried. Downtown and the rougher areas of North Charleston have already been subject to looting and rioting. My biggest concern is not taking my children with me when I go grocery shopping for awhile.
I sold moved 1000 miles from MA when I read the tea leaves 5 yrs ago. I knew no one. Did the move myself. Sure its challenging – look at the alternative. Pay attention your life depends on it.
Just curious, Tulips. You moved from MA to where?
Easier said than done ah
I wike up to this realization today. Until we are willing to make actual sacrifices, we will not fix this …
A move is nothing compared to your sanity and supporting a broken system
this is good stuff kindred soul
There is no such thing in the United States Of America of NOT having the ability to move somewhere else….
I believe this will be changing for most of us in the near future. Time to do it, if you need to do it.
Yes. The entire family is seeing our life built here, happy and safe, is going to end because the politicians simply cannot stop themselves. I’m worried as to who would buy our places. And we are not in the position to begin again.
I feel you treeclimber… the lack of empathy from some people does nothing to help those of us stuck in certain areas or that have family stuck in certain areas. Completely heartless and rude. the simple , oh just move is not only not helpful… what happens when we run out of places to just move?
Regarding being “stuck,” I’ll just say that moving is a function of the will.
If you really want it done, you will endure whatever the challenges and sacrifices involved.
Perhaps you find that “heartless and rude,” but it’s just plain truth. There are doers and there are complainers. Each person must decide which he is.
Just sayin’…
@TreeClimber
Don’t let your critics get to you. These “flee the cities” types on the Right are cowards pretending to be brave
Popular radio host Sonnie Johnson perfectly summed up these spineless “conservatives.”
Not everyone has the ability to leave, and some stay because “it’s not the healthy, but rather the sick who need a doctor”.
Please reserve your harshness for the vile powerful and those who knowingly put them into powerful positions.
When people say they do not have the ability to leave it is hard to understand. I have seen people move under the most horrific circumstances (for example, being elderly and ill in a nursing home after Katrina).
I think this is just a failure of imagination and being stuck in your own paradigm. Everyone can move still in the United States.
Some Jewish people left Germany in 1939, but others thought they were unable to do so. Think of the Sound of Music for inspiration- walking through the Alps with so many small children to escape to freedom.
Or the Cuban boat people coming to Florida on anything that floated (and unfortunately some things that didn’t float long enough) to escape Castro.
Being broad is lame………I love living in TX, but if I wanted to move I couldn’t…….without abandoning family……..My mother in law 80, lives 2 blocks away, My dad 76, lives two blocks. The other way, and my Aunt lives 3 houses from my dad………blood is thicker than water in my world…………so quit judging people for being what you conceive of being weak………by staying they may be being strong………..my generation (52 years old) I think got screwed the most, taking care of kids and parents. My wife and I would love to bail out on everyone, but it’s not gonna happen.
The overuse of the ellipsis breaks up the flow of text and makes it harder to read. In the future please stick with standard English punctuation.
Ellipses maybe lazy … but they offer tremendous value when you wish to sound conversational.
Lighten up, Karen.
You could if you wanted. Don’t equate necessity to move from a bad situation about to get worse and moving away from your parents. Rationalization is a funny thing.
Of course I could if I wanted, the point I was trying to make is I take my family obligations seriously. I have many siblings, but am the one who takes care of my parents, through choice.
My family buried our 98 y.o. father yesterday. Some of the toughest duty we ever did, taking care of him the last few years, but also the most rewarding.
Good on you, for taking care of people close to you. You can’t trust strangers to do it, and your kids have learned a valuable lesson.
PA Farm girl here. Farmers tend to stay due to the fact farm ground isn’t cheap. Plus you are financially competing for ground with the rich elite. I assume same goes for business owners who have to consider infrastructure, markets, skilled employees, and resources. Finally for all of you who move, remember you drive up the housing prices for the locals who may not have your means.
Is it easy to turn away from everyone and everything you love due to morons running your state? No. I could be sitting in paradise drinking fancy drinks and I’d be a miserable mess without my family a thousand miles away. But, it’s true…we should go while the gitting is still possible if Australia is any clue.
Maybe some shouldn’t be sooooo sensitive.
Sometimes realities and changes must take place and sometimes short-term discomfort is the price BUT,
if done thoughtfully, and with an eye to the future, all will be well in the end.
After all, each of us must decide what is most important in life.
Sounds like you’ve never experienced what the rest of us have had to muster – self reliance. You’re right stay where the govt will provide…dont come here.
Really the emergency is not starvation, it is covid, climate change, white supremacy, systemic racism, and voter suppression. Our “democracy” must be protected so we can keep those shelves bare and everyone locked in their hovels, excepting foreign nationals.
Hoping for a better day, just around the corner, sticking it out for now, but also having all of my beloved family members local means leaving them. It’s not that I (alone) can’t start over somewhere else, but it’s an equation — so far, the equation comes out with staying here a bit longer. Some of the family members are elderly and will not consider moving (they are still brainwashed), and I am helping with caregiving. I love them and also have a duty to them. At some point, either they die or I decide that my life in relative freedom is worth more than theirs. Sure, I can move. Not the easiest decision. But the choice is simple.
Please stop saying that.
I have lived in upstate New York in a town no one has ever heard of ( and never will) for 40 years. Most everyone has NEVER voted Democrat. We simply are not represented. We grow all the wonderful food for downstate and get told what rural unimportant rubes we are. The only reason we haven’t left is family, friends, a wonderful neighborhood and our businesses. I’m convinced they have stolen the vote from us this past election through practicing and perfecting it in our state first.
The corruption is complete.
I`m behind enemy lines too in WNY.
Run away, run away!!!!
Monty Python
I even read it in that voice first time.
