Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Thinking of “today”, thinking of “now”:
2 Cor. 6:2 (cf. Isaiah 49:8)
“For He says: “In the acceptable time I listened to you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is the time of favor; behold, now is the day of salvation.
Isaiah 55:6-7
“Seek the LORD to while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and He will have mercy on them, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”
Hebrews 3:15a (cf. Psalms 95:7-8)
“As it has been said: “If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts…”
Revelation 22:17 (cf. Isaiah 55:1)
“The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let the one who hears say, “Come!” And let the one who is thirsty come, and the one who desires the water of life drink freely.”
—
Thinking of why:
Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Romans 5:8
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 5:24
“Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life.”
—
Thinking of how:
Luke 18:13
“And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’”
James 4:8a
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
John 6:28-29
“Therefore they said to Him, “What must we do, that we may be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you should believe in Him whom He has sent.””
Mark 9:24b
“‘Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.'”
Acts 16:30-31
“Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.””

Leave it to a cat to look so incredibly cute in an ugly Christmas sweater!
Pssssst. You have claws! Use them (and then post a post-clawed sweater pic, ok kitty)! The end result might look something like this, assuming you do a very neat job:

I hear the echoes of a small book that helped incrementally change my life in this potent devotional today.
“Don’t Waste Your Life” by John Piper.
Piper and I don’t agree on Trump, and the US government but this is a great fast read. I’ve given at least 10 copies away.
Just get the book. 😉
PS…I’m not virtue signaling. At all. I NEED the mercy and grace of God moment by moment.
There are people in this land who I could point something at, not say to them,“cheese”, but say to myself, “squeeze”.
I’m trying to follow the directives and Scripture in this great, great devotional.
Thanks again dubbayuh p
How ironic, Frank, that you should post this. Last night I found the following, which I’ve kept for a long time and thought I would place here this morning.
“Life is not a straight line leading from one blessing to the next and then finally to heaven. Life is a winding and troubled road. Switchback to switchback. And the point of biblical stories like Joseph and Esther and Ruth is to help is feel in our bones (not just know in our heads) that God is for us in all these strange turns.
God is not just showing up after the trouble and cleaning up. He is plotting the course and managing the troubles with far-reaching purpose for our good nd for the glory of Jesus Christ.”
The miraculous spiritual lines of communication are open, my good friend…Bet (definitely NOT Midler🤗)
I neglected to say the above is also John Piper…and how (not) ironic that it would tie in so well with WP’s offering today. Right?
Good morning, Betsy! What a way to start the day, with WP’s devotional and you and Frank.
🤗 Good morning, GrandpaM! Yes, I was blown away by the coincidence of Frank’s posting of John Piper, when last night I decided to post what I did. Strange isn’t it? Or not..so even though I was not quite wide awake, I had to jump right in. And before my first cup of tea as well! 😊
There are no coincidences 🙂
No sir…there are not!
Good stuff. I sent you some information last evening.
I’m so glad you love The Savior.
❗️🙌❗️
I’ll revisit. If it was about 817, I got it…😊…I sent you a bit about my old East Texas stomping grounds. Only short, but I had answered a question you asked about that a week or so ago and it was so late I was afraid you didn’t see it. Checking yesterday’s OT now👍
Yes! That’s what it was. See my reply to you 😊
Good morning, Frank!
Good evening!
I think you’ll like the text I received last night from a great friend. Here goes:
One of my old buddies is putting in a wood stove in the new house, he needed a pilot hole in the roof . He didn’t have a long drill bit at the new house so he used his 45acp, his wife is not too happy with him right now
Thank you, W_P!
Nina Simone “Little Girl Blue”.
I found this artist and recording from a mention by Janis Joplin on one of her live albums.
Not many people know about Nina. Have loved her music since the early 1960s. There may be more, but I have 4 of her albums.
I always love the song Summertime – don’t care who records it (smile)
Agree about Nina. Summertime is one of my all time favorites, have to say no one did it better than Ella.
Good evening Garrison!
Yo, Ad rem. I’m not goin’ away. I’ve enjoyed the Treepost for too long to let a terminal screw-up to cause me to leave.
There has to be a degree of understanding, a degree of permission that allow cosmic screw-ups to take place without drastic consequences. One of the best things about the Treehouse is that we don’t keep score . . . Mistakes made are filed away and our life as Treepers in this very special, very meaningful environment continues on.
Be well Ad rem. Your help to us, often unacknowledged, is nonetheless much appreciated. We couldn’t be here without you.
Your post is music to my ears! (However, being a Scottish Fold, I keep ’em well hidden. 😀 )
I sure didn’t mean to stink things up here Garrison.
What I like best about you is your ministry to your wife and your care for animals.
Thanks much.
I know, Frank. 🙂
Frank, take a deep breath! We know you and your Sense of Humor!
You only catch glimmers. Trust me.
Thanks for the post 🤟
😆
Yay!!!!!!!! You’re here!!!!!!!!!
🙂
Based!!! (I hope I used that right. 😂)
I nominate Garrison to be the Music Director of CTH. It would be a new position and could be used for things like having Dutchman read his wonderful posts while Garrison would select the most appropriate instrumental music to accompany the readings and/or he could select the perfect piece of music to go with the topic of any given blog that gets put up. This would be time consuming as he’d need to find not only the right piece, but also the correct length.
And that’s where middle management would come into play. There would need to be some assistants to help do background research to gather data on time stamps and such. This would free up Garrison to do the creative work.
The next level that could be rolled out would be, given the number of Treepers who have had a lot of music training, live music performed by the CTH Treeper band or orchestra or philharmonic or whatever it would be named. Accompanying vocals could be performed by lurkers and/or commentators.
Whadaya think?
If come to be I dibs to be the protector of children for any younger invites that need some quality time out.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAT???
You missed my point.
A psycical “Get Together” as opposed to a “Cyber Get Together” would need the services of a fully trusted protector of children .
After “lockdown” control I think my post valid.
Maybe I should of explained myself more or Maybe you took my post the wrong way ?
I think my response to Feisty on MP just now will anwser for both of us.
Ooohhhhhhhhhhhh, I get. I think there was a gap btwn what you posted and the idea you had in your head that went over my head. Thanks for hopping on and explaining! Sometimes I’m just thick and clueless, I guess. Can I blame it on old age?!
Yes, you can!!!!! I do it all the time😊. Works for me.
What is MP?
I’m in a haul rumpsky mode.
Check you manana.
Amen! Duchess’ eyes…your knuckles ❗️
LOVE IT!!!!!!
I came here this morning because I had a need to listen to something beautiful. I knew Garrison would have something. Little did I know how right I would be.
I grew up listening to my mother play these very same Nocturnes. Oh, how she loved playing the piano! The sounds of Chopin, Schumann, DeBussey, Weber, Alkan, and so many others I can’t even remember filled the air. She played well into her 90’s, fingers knurled and twisted from arthiritis, and yet, some how she could still play with the vigor of a 20 or 30 year old. For her it was a straight up gift from the Holy Spirit.
Anyway, I just happened to be thinking of her this morning and how she so loved this season of Advent and joy of waiting for the birth of Christ. So again, thank you Garrison. Your gift of music has once again touched my heart!
This is why music counts, bugs. 🙂
Internet radio! 🙂
Second it.
Maybe Garrison would just like to be left alone.
Wow, that seems so serious for the light-hearted and appreciative tenor of things….
How’s you do that emoji??? Great!!!!
https://www.picgifs.com/mini-graphics/music/&p=6/
Definitely remember playing the middle song by Chopin as a teenager on the piano … happy times! 🙂
Yep. 🙂
Goodaye Garrison.
I am listening to your Brigitte as I type, nice, tearfully so to me.
The piece I tried to leave you is called ‘Fall in Okanagan’ by Thomas Newman.
I will try to find another link.
My grandmother was a piano player and always played for me as a small child hence my tear remark.
Cheers.
Good morning, M🤗💓
What you are experiencing listening to pieces which invoke tears applies to me more and more…especially during these wretched times, and most especially during this waiting time for the birth of Christ. Suddenly and unexpectedly. Even as I am imagining your deep emotions, I can feel my eyes becoming quite moist.
Across the miles its emotions like this through music which draw us together and bind us with bless-ed cords…and chords.
Surely a small gift from God to signal that here, on this site, we are not separated by the miles but are all a family of like souls upon whom He smiles and joins us in warming fellowship.
I like to think so anyway. Stay well and safe, my dearest friend🙏
Good post, Betsy!
Oh thank you, Leenie. And a gracious good morning to you😊 I hope many blessings of the day will find their way to you.
A mirror for that!!!!
😊😊😊.
🙂
🙂
Dude, you put my dog to sleep, and almost me. A little Vivaldi next time? Just joshing, love it!
Well as long as your dog is sleeping, perhaps it’s time for the next phase of a deep restful state!
Thank you for the first big laugh of the day!!!!!
Funny! 🙂
Going to sleep listening to music is not a bad thing . . . at lest your dog understands this. 🙂
Sometimes dogs get things on a very deep level :).
Blast from the past …….. Beatles, 1963
Early days
Wonderfully talented sisters. Think they got some poor advice for their more recent videos. No matter, the meaning is always there.
Beautiful. So simple and pure. Just lovely…
A Treeper by the name of Eric C. posted these two videos late last night on the Presidential Open Thread. I’m reposting them here because I think they’re really exceptional and worthy of greater attention.
The first one is long, but well worth listening. (The first couple of minutes might seem a bit rambling and disjointed, but hang in there, this individual has a lot to say, and his voice is honest and, in the current climate, are I say, brave.)
He is a Christian man of great faith and often shares his conversations with G-d, deep insights, and links real life experience with lessons from the Bible in a way that is truly compelling. I was riveted listening to him and hope others will also find his voice a most welcome relief from the hysterical chatter that surrounds us.
Of note, it seems he started his YT channel 3 yrs ago with a focus on gardening, but these videos are not about that. He is really something to listen to, as if he draws back a curtain and invites you to peer into his innermost thoughts which unfold without a shred of hype.
(Sorry about the needlessly large spatial gap btwn the videos. I posted the links w/o any break btwn them, but for some reason they show up with a large space.)
Wholeheartedly agree, shared far and wide.
Sarah, I was really, going to stay off the Treehouse today re: commenting, but I have to thank you for the top video.
The current a situation in this country regarding race is so fraught with lies, deception and hate baiting that the only conclusion one must come to is that it is purposefully being done, and that is sick.
Being a very small, white woman, yes, if I’m alone, walking down a street at night and I see a bunch of young men following me, I get the hell out of there. Doesn’t matter their color. (I’m not stupid! I don’t walk alone down a street at night!)
CRT drives me nuts!!! Parents, both black and white, have stood up and very publicly denounced this latest “hate Baiting.” But this time it’s about “educating/training” the kids. I, and many others, find this reprehensible and evil. End game? Continue the hatred. Teach young kids to hate. Sickening.
The 1916 project: “reeducating/training” the adults, with lies so provably false that one would have to be deliberately looking for a reason to stoke that “racist fire.”
Most “normal” people, of all races, really do judge people by the quality of their character and their actions, in our towns, in our neighborhoods…
The culprits? Al Sharpton, Barack and Michelle Obama, Lori Lightfoot, BLM, Salvation Army, to name a few.
hahahaha. Something tells me this happens multiple times a day in this household!
Our cocker would have circled 6 times minimum and dug a bit to try and fluff the bed up more before plopping down.
Heeheehee. Love when dogs and/or cats do the circling thing, as if living in the wild and padding down their spot amongst leaves and who knows what else. You want to say, hey, the bed is all stitched together for ya’ in a nice neat circle and made of the fluffiest material you could imagine. But, nope, some of ’em just have circle and circle first and then, exactly as you say “plop” down! Ah, animals. Can’t imagine life without them.
Aawwww, how could anyone be mad at that dog. He/she was so dainty and polite about it. Unlike these two having a bit of an argument over the printer!
Wow … did he … * bad pun alert * … not carrot all?
About 20 years ago I got tagged for Jury duty. I went in and was selected. It was an interesting and informative experience lasting three days.
The defendant was found guilty of two of the three charges.
Then a new charge was added which was a repeat offender charge based on prior record and the defendant being found guilty on the charges during our initial deliberations.
So we went back in to deliberate that charge and he was found guilty. That charge alone had a minimum sentence of 5 years hard time and a maximum of 20 years.
The list of prospective jurors is taken from voters rolls. Seeing what showed up for jury selection was an eye opener. No wonder this country is in the shape it’s in.
This is why it is so important for people to not play the game of getting off of sitting on a jury – defendants need a jury of their peers, people who willingly bring themselves, their life experiences of how the common man sees things to weigh in judgment someone else’s life.
Had the experience of being a juror once too. That person was also found guilty. Lasted a whole week. Hardest thing to do was to not talk about it, whether we were on break or at home at the end of the day with family. It wasn’t until after our decision was made and read to the court, about one week later the jurors received a thank you letter from the judge for participating, and was now free to explain, to inform us that this trial we had sat on had been that particular individual’s second (appeal) trial, where the previous jury had also found the defendant guilty.
It was a very humbling experience, to realize the importance of having jurors; look what the juries did in both the Rittenhouse, the Smullett, even the George Zimmerman trials. Those people did some of the hardest work out there, having someone’s life, and societies expectations of what is right and what is wrong in their hands.
Completely agree. I think a lot of folks work very hard to get out of serving on a jury. It’s like a giant eye roll. And, truth be told, these days it’s also very intimidating. But everything you shared is so right on.
REDEMPTION CREATES THE NEED IT SATISFIES
“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him.” 1 Cor. ii. 14
The Gospel of God creates a sense of need of the Gospel. Paul says – “If our gospel be hid, it is hid” – to those who are blackguards? No, “to them that are lost: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not.” The majority of people have their morality well within their own grasp, they have no sense of need of the Gospel. It is God Who creates the need of which no human being is conscious until God manifests Himself. Jesus said – “Ask, and it shall be given you,” but God cannot give until a man asks. It is not that He withholds, but that is the way He has constituted things on the basis of Redemption. By means of our asking, God gets processes into work whereby He creates the thing that is not in existence until we do ask. The inner reality of Redemption is that it creates all the time. As the Redemption creates the life of God in us, so it creates the things belonging to that life. Nothing can satisfy the need but that which created the need. This is the meaning of Redemption – it creates and it satisfies.
“If, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me.” We preach our own experiences and people are interested, but no sense of need is awakened by it. If once Jesus Christ is lifted up, the Spirit of God will create a conscious need of Him. Behind the preaching of the Gospel is the creative Redemption of God at work in the souls of men. It is never personal testimony that save men. “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life.”

Blast from the past…….
Some here enjoy military history but did you know this :
The attacks in 1942 in what was called North Africa was led by Feild Marshall Erwin Rommel, the most decorated German commander at that time , his Panzer tank army smashed through Europe .
The Objective of the North African Campaign was the Nazi prize of taking the “Holy Lands” Jerusalem and modern day Israel.
At a little known place outside of Australia known as “Tobruk” the only force available were the untested in total war all volunteer force of the ANZACs. Indian and pommy forces were included but this fight was Aussie true blue .
At first they disposed of the Italian Garrison (no pun Mr Hall) and dug in .
The full onslaught of the most successful German army with the most successful Commander of Hitler’s army’s they took on with everything from stuka dive bombers to the latest pander tanks .
This is where the the term legendary here comes from, the German propaganda termed us “Rats” we loved it !
The “Rats Of Tobruk” legends here.
The battle at El Alamein by the Aussie 9ths division remnants cemented the last counter attack by Rommel and inflicting the first lose of ground to the entire German Army.
It was the Australian’s only that held of the attack on the Holy Lands.
Who here knew that ?
I have bragging rights as my pop was a rat .
Sh*t , just read what I wrote ! Explanation to my pop here , I actually have four pops ( broken family stuff) but you can be my fifth if that’s ok 😜
Four times I changed pander for Panzer !
Six times now !
Telling!
Try again .
Testament to the fact that the human spirit is a force that is so powerful that it’s limits can’t be gauged.
In the previous war the ANZACs paid a very heavy price under unimaginable conditions at Gallipoli and lost. They lost because what they were tasked to do was far beyond the means provided to them to do it. But when the survivors evacuated, they were still of good cheer and still full of fight.
It was not until afterwards that the accusations flew.
Churchill as Lord of the Admiltry at that time threw the Australian’s into Gallipoli in an ill fated attempt that was doomed to be unsuccessful from all Australian military commander class .
Again the originals as termed at that time held the Turks at bay .
Once again a Volunteer Army.
Churchill is considered a pig in no uncertain terms by any ANZAC whith true measure.
In fact did you know that the first victory of the first World war against the Germans was the Australian’s .
Hint – Navy.
Did you know that the first victory against in the second World war was also Australian .
The first victory against the Japanese was also Australian.
The first victory against the Vietnamese regulars in force were Australian .
I could go on but any of the above you wish to discuss or dispute here I am.
God Bless all the memories of the fallen.
Amen, son! Maybe the first huge victory in the war against the global dictatorship will be Australian, too.
‘Did you happen the Name of the Worm video that someone posted to you a couple of days ago? Just finished it this morning. Very interesting and informative.
Your grounding in military history is sound, Mungrel. As I would expect it to be with your father being an eminent historian. I knew some of what you wrote, but definitely not all. And I am with you on asking for God’s blessings , mercy, and grace on the fallen.
Unfortunately we are moving further and further away from those dreadful but heroic times. It is not being taught here except in cursory fashion. We are depriving the generations, who are here by virtue of the ultimate sacrifices of all who perished, of the knowledge of what was done so they would have the lives they do today.
It is our responsibility to keep those memories of men and their great deeds alive, and we have failed miserably.
Churchill screwed up and paid the political price for it . Perhaps he learned something, because in the 2nd WW he performed magnificently when all the chips were on the table.
Gladly, son, Don’t mind being your fifth pop 😂 Thank you for the history lesson. I am well aware of Rommel’s North African Campaign but don’t remember or just have forgotten that the Aussies carried the main fighting load.
also, this is the first time that I’ve encountered the term pommy outside of the rugby vernacular as in “f…ng poms”. Used to love to watch rugby before NBC took over the broadcasting rights, and before I fired our tv.
Cheers.
😊
. . . but deliver us from the Evil One.

I went to a hockey game last night. They were strongly encouraging face coverings. Except for arena staff, the only ones I saw were people walking in and suddenly realizing that they were the only ones in the place following the strong suggestion. Well, there were the two guys in my row that kept theirs on the entire time except for very brief moment when they would take a drink from a $12 beer. They were the only ones I saw. Good game. The Predators won their sixth in a row. They are fun to watch this year.
I love hockey. The halftime entertainment is great and it is all the better because they have two halftimes. The halftime musical entertainment is always good. It better be as it is Nashville. The music was good last night but the sponsorship was cringe worthy. It was sponsored by the Salvation Army and there was a lot of SA promotion during the game. I can handle that as that is what they do. What made it cringe worthy was that the band was a really good Black band that played a mix of easy rock and gospel. Two appropriately intersectional SA officers stood behind the band and a guy was waving a large SA shield logo behind the band and swaying to the music with all the skill you would expect of a white guy swaying to gospel music. The SA says that they apologized, but they are still reading from a woke script.
Most people probably did not notice, but I did.
VibeMan, maybe they should start calling the hockey halftimes thirdtimes, lol.
Had to go in Walmart yesterday because my stepdad has been pestering my mom to get him two calendars. As Mom and I were walking out, the SA bell ringer was inside the store doors. Felt bad for the old handicapped man but didn’t put anything in the kettle. Nobody else was, either.
I started saying that because it irritated my Canadian friends. I was on a work trip in Canada teaching an industrial maintenance class. I had put together a short monologue about hockey, the sort of things an ignorant southerner from the USA would say. It included the two halftimes. It was just after the strike shortened season and I remarked that I understood that everything was shortened to get the season in but I could not see the reasoning as to how shortening every game by a quarter did anything. They were not amused. You do not make fun of hockey in Canada.
They did agree with my comment that from observation there are really only three rules in hockey: the puck must be the first thing over the blue line, you can not hit the puck to the other end of the arena unless there is someone headed that way to catch it, and you can hit someone as hard and violently as you want as long as you are not sneaky. Sneaky is defined as, tripping, cross checking, slashing, high sticking and other sneaky things. The rules are enforced with elementary school playground punishments, you have to sit on the side and watch everyone else play.
LOL!
Used to watch a lot of hockey as a kid and a young man. Still remember the 1980 Olympics final. I was in college at the time. Had to cheer on the inside because the politically correct thing to do in Easter Europe at the time was to cheer the Soviet teams although a lot of people hated their guts. You didn’t know who would report on you. Almost burst with joy when the US hockey team kicked some Soviet a$$ big time.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”

BE MY VOICE
BABY LIVES MATTER
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, amen.
Thank you, duchess, when you first posted this prayer I copied it to my iPad so I have it handy all the time.
The UK just ‘heroically’ asserted that there are 2 genders for passports: men and women. Their Supreme Court had to ‘decide’, which it did :/ There are two types of humans, for 99.99994% of us: XX and XY chromosome. Some VERY odd individuals DO get both chromosomes (hermaphrodites).
But, cutting off your junk and taking pills to grow breasts does NOT make you a woman. You are an injured man.
Still, England nearly allowed 3 entries for “gender” on passports: M, F and “X”
How sad. Truly. A queer is a queer, a cross-dresser is a weirdo and their ‘pride’ era is nearly done- their own undoing.
The prostate is in probate, atm. Tough to see who gets what’s left.
As an ex-expat from America to Britain and back here once more, and one who diligently still follows all the goings on there, I can tell you that that country has become insane…INSANE! It breaks my heart. So thank goodness for the tiniest silver of sense, which is diminishing every day. One has to search hard and long to find it.
Sundance your thoughts on this?
The FBI senior attorney who was charged with falsifying a document filed with Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court in connection with a surveillance warrant to spy on a 2016 Trump campaign adviser has been reinstated by the DC Bar Association.
Kevin Clinesmith, who was fired by the FBI after being convicted for the felony, only got probation for his violation, though generally, such a conviction would be grounds for permanent disbarment. But not this time, as Just the News reports.
All that does is illustrate who’s running the DC Bar Association. Not that observant folks needed any reminder.
It is yet one more reason to add to the extremely long list of reasons for why a whole lot of Patriotic Constitution-loving Deplorables are personally holding a large amount of pent-up Cold Anger.

I would argue this statement from rah “Mr. Allen had reason to be upset with Tex Johnston for rolling the Dash-80”. Personally I would like to fly with the knowledge that the plane ‘could be’ safely rolled.
An ongoing problem developed at airports when large, heavy airplanes were mixed in landing sequence with small, lighter airplanes. It only helped a little bit when there were parallel runways in use. A scary number of airplanes, big and little, ended up in very scary positions relative to the ground – and very near the ground. Not all survived the ensuing crash. Parallel runways only help a little bit because the vortices settle and drift with the wind.
A touch of aerodynamics. The curved top of a wing creates a lower pressure than the bottom of the wing. The airplane flies, literally, by the amount of low pressure on top. As the plane moves thru the air, the air ‘equalizes’ off the wing tips, creating what are called wingtip vortices (AKA horizontal tornados). While barely noticeable in our small airplanes, it is a real flight hazard flying or landing behind one of the really BIG jets. You have noticed the small wings at an angle to the wings? While they help reduce wingtip vortices, their main advantage is they reduce fuel consumption and make the wing ‘fly’ better.
I just learned this from hydro.aero
“Raked wingtips, where the tip has a greater wing sweep than the rest of the wing, are featured on some Boeing Commercial Airplanes to improve fuel efficiency, takeoff and climb performance. Like winglets, they increase the effective wing aspect ratio and diminish wingtip vortices, decreasing lift-induced drag.”
So I assume the problem of unexpectedly finding yourself upside down near the ground is less now than it was 40 years ago.
Going back to rah’s discussion of rolling the Dash-80, the fact that the airplane is capable of responding to an invisible horizontal tornado from another airplanes wingtip vortice means survival.
Because these vortices may be hanging in the air long after the airplane that created them is out of sight. And they are invisible. And they affect all airplanes, big and little, that encounter them.
Air traffic controllers do what they can to separate traffic – not only to avoid mid air collisions, but to mitigate the chances of encountering another airplane’s wingtip vortices. Might they explain that sudden and often severe ‘bump’ when flying in otherwise calm air? Oh, dear, my hot coffee just landed in my lap.
One other point about rah’s discussion. From my point of view, not only would I be glad to know the airplane could handle a nicely done barrel roll – I would like to know that the airframe can withstand a not-so-well executed roll – or other pilot-induced or weather-induced stress-upon-the-airframe situation.
I was a flight instrurctor, and one of my airplanes was stressed for acrobatics (which I taught some)…. But I was not a test pilot. Didn’t want to be one. Am eternally grateful there are people who happily put airplanes thru their paces, find out what they will and will not do.
Food prices. What are you noticing on the ground? Had a shock today when I noticed frozen vegetable prices had doubled in BJ’s.
I am noticing that I am not seeing the high prices here that I see others talk about, except for beef. I have been wondering how much regional variation there might be. I suspect this is another urban rural separation. For example, I live in Kentucky very near to where the tornadoes touched down. Non-urban, but small town industrial, with a mid-sized university.
Milk is still under $2, Eggs roughly $1/dozen. Sugar for baking is about $5 for 10 pounds. We bought turkeys for 33 cents but typical is 99 cents. Pork chops still under $4 a pound. I get coffee for less than $6 for one of those 24 ounce cans. Soft drinks are still about $4-5 a 12 pack and gas hovers around $3 a gallon. Wife said that lettuce is up to $1.75 for a head of iceberg.
Like I said, beef is high and sales are rare. Other than that, not too bad. Maybe it is on the way to here, but I wonder how much of the increases are labor and local costs (taxes and overhead) rather than wholesale food prices. I have noticed package size inflation. A box of crackers was the same I always paid but it was 14 oz instead of 16oz.
Here in Wisconsin bacon and coffee price increases are the most noticeable. Saw beef prices going up so split a quarter steer with the neighbors. I’m a bargain shopper, not brand loyal, stock up on sale items. The best thing you can do right now is buy a freezer and empty out a closet or two, stock up while you can. It will get worse.
I had a brief encounter with a woman yesterday, a member of a far-left group of bolshevik rabble-rousers. Their talking points are Marxist boilerplate, greedy capitalists exploiting the workers, blah blah effing blah. A friend of mine described them perfectly as “hapless”. But they’ve been around since I moved here in ’93. They are getting funding from “somebody”. I got involved with them peripherally years ago, volunteered to deliver food, mainly because I’m a bleeding heart and don’t like to see anyone go hungry. Then I grew up. As Churchill once said, a man who is not liberal at the age of twenty has no heart, a man who is not conservative at the age of forty has no brain. Words to that effect. But I will talk with anyone, particularly if we don’t agree. While she was holding forth about the disadvantaged being held down by “the system”, I countered that from my experience in mental health/substance abuse the “issues” of the disadvantaged are due primarily to very bad life decisions conditioned by impaired judgement from alcohol/drug abuse. Consequently I framed “treatment” in the context of personal responsibility and accountability and I framed their diagnoses, which they embraced precisely because they absolved them of personal reposnsibility, as simply life problems (due to stupid decisions) that had been medicalized. In any case I pointed out that it’s difficult to be disadvantaged, and especially homeless, in Massachusetts as it is a hummingly efficient technocratic welfare state with armies of case workers. Free stuff for everybody forever. She smiled because she knew it’s true. Then The Pandemic came up, how it has “disproportinately” affected the poor and “communities of color” (because systemic racism) and I immediately cut her off with an information-dense counterpoint, how The Pandemic is completely fabricated by the same powers that she ostensibly opposes. Gesturing at the people coming and going in the parking lot I said “look, no one is sick, no one is dying, no one is even coughing.” She was masked and I said “You don’t need that mask, it’s pointless and I could understand you better if you would take it off.” She looked stricken, confused, then abruptly ended the conversation -“See ya.” I’d almost forgotten that the left here just loves their COVID. It’s a perfect excuse for the intrusion of state power into our lives. But the experience also clarified that the divide between sane people and devotees of the COVID death cult is widening and probably unbridgeable. The hard core lunatic left is a small minority and we are a much more significant minority. Which leaves the passive compliers, the easily-led mush brained middle. Since the left has the megaphone of the putrid media, cranking out lies and hate (NPR: Rising anger at the unvaccinated) places us in peril. History teaches us that genocides happen quickly
Flight Instructors are on the periphery of accident investigations because we want to know what went wrong. This was of special interest if it involved an accident to someone we ‘trained’ or happened involving one of our airplanes. . Whether the pilot was working towards their Private Pilot license or a more advanced license or rating – a fatal accident concerned all of us greatly (as you can imagine).
I have stated that an airplane can malfunction, and if it does so it is apt to happen at the very worst moment in time. While this is true, most fatal accidents I knew about happened because the pilot ‘killed’ himself, his passengers and his airplane by his / her poor decisions.
That said, we also often encountered a situation called airplane design-induced pilot error. While there are many situations where this occurs, there are 2 we concentrated on teaching pilots to guard against – they are common causes of airplane accidents.
My ‘boss’ bought and sold airplanes from a specific manufacturer. We taught folks how to fly them. This ‘brand’ of retractable landing gear airplane has the lever to raise and lower the flaps in one location. In a close-by location (to the right of the flaps lever) is the lever to raise and lower the landing gear.
Imagine if you will that we are approaching the runway to land. You lower the landing gear at an appropriate point, then you lower the flaps to help slow for touchdown. Of course, all the while you are communicating with the control tower and observing safe separation from other air and ground traffic – and monitoring your flight instruments – and reducing or adding power. In a high traffice airport environment the pilot gets very busy. The closer to the runway the busier – especially if the wind is wind-ing.
The pilot learns to find the levers and switches by feel. After landing he / she raises the flaps and performs other actions to get the airplane off the active runway and on a taxiway for further instructions (what is your destination on our airport?)
Well, pilots did not usually spend the rest of their flying lives flying the same brand or model of airplane.
Guess what? Another manufacturer REVERSES the position of the flap and landing gear handles. Never mind that they have a specific shape and size – they are in another PLACE from the location the pilot is used to. This type of accident is, of course, embarassing. The effect of raising the gear on the runway (instead of raising the flaps) is going to be expensive – but not usually fatal. Not that it won’t be – or that it couldn’ t be –
There is another design that can be much more serious.
The airplanes we flew had high wings and a gas tank in each wing joined by a fuel line. Gas flowed by gravity. Easy Peasy. No think. Just make sure the fuel vent was clear before flight – and no inverted flight (ha ha).
Low wing airplanes and ‘sophisticated’ craft often had multiple tanks that had to be ‘managed’ during flight to keep the airplane in balance. The pilot would position a lever (usually down low and in the unlit part of the interior) so as to switch tanks. Here again, different manufacturers put these levers in various hard to see and hard to reach places – and had levers ‘point’ to different settings in different ways.
A pilot unfamiliar with that particular fuel management system could easily turn a tank feed off when he / she meant to turn it on. Following the adage that the fuel flow would stop at a most critical moment in flight the ‘accident’ was apt to be fatal.
Whenever I had the opportunity read about the actual cause of an accident (Fed accident investigations often take months or years to complete), the final determination was often pilot error.
Of course it was. The stupid pilot didn’t know what he / she was doing. We found the fuel selector in the OFF position. Simply ran out of gas on final approach and spun in.
You get the idea. rah posted about a couple of fatal Boeing flights that nearly ended the company in the early years. So – somebody – left an undiscovered flight control lock on. And “The crash resulted from an engine fire caused by the improper routing of wiring to a test sensor.”. The ‘improper wiring’ would be mechanic-induced pilot error. That happens too, but not as often.
A really good pilot might be able to survive ‘little problems’ like these. Unless – they happen at a critical airspeed and altitude – like proximity to the ground?
More about the Boeing barrell roll – as it pertains to the structure of the airframe.
BIG thunderstorms produce violent wind sheers between rapidly rising and descending columns of air. It’s one thing to be ‘riding’ an updraft. When you fly into the nearby downdraft problems multiply. Not only from the wind shear, but also the pilot tends to react by raising the nose against the (often rapid) descent. The airplane might then lose its ‘lift’. This creates what is known as a stall (of the wing, not the motor), a condition that leads to lack of control. Again, near the ground this can be fatal. Another ‘pilot induced crash’.
Why did the dummy fly into a thunderstorm in the first place? Why not do what us Polaks do – make a 360 degree turn and get the heck out of there? (that was a joke)
As you can tell, we spent a lot of time and effort teaching our students emergency operation of equipment. We small airplane pilots flew from one possible emergency landitng site to another (I never did like to fly over large bodies of open water – even tho I knew that the airplane DID NOT KNOW it was over water). But whether it was a new student or one who wanted to rent one of our airplanes, we made sure they knew how to operate knobs, switches, levers – and how to manually extend the landing gear if necessary.
And that’s why I was upset with ‘Captain Bob’, the Lear jet pilot who wanted to rent our Cessna 172. His actions (far as I was concerned) did not display knowledge on his part regarding our ‘lowly’ single engine airplane.
With Winter Weather upon us – Please remember these adages:
1) If you can choose (whether to go or not to go) choose wisely
and
2) There are old pilots and there are bold pilots – but there are no old, bold pilots
Real deal. Thanks.
are you a pilot? do you know what I am trying to convey?
Thanks, ms idaho, another great read.

Hey it looks like we are back to the formatting that was in CTH 1.0 !! At the top the links to the next article and previous article have re-appeared! I always liked that!!
The font has changed and the spacing in the Reply block is back to looking double spaced for every actual single space.
The icons under each] comment are very very light gray – a little hard to see, the Like (thumbs up ) icon, the reply button, and the number of Likes are all very faint.
But functionality of the blog site is still all there.
Kudos to the CTH team for bringing back some old features that many of us liked.
Are we back on WordPress?
That was weird. Right in the middle of a reply, it wouldn’t post. So I shut it down and tried to bring the site up again…Nada. Then I saw WordPress and I started to wonder as well.
At least we can access Last Refuge. I was beginning to get all conspiracyist.
