This might be somewhat preaching to the choir, but it’s the only way I know to help Treepers prepare their families according to very visible economic signals happening just over the horizon. Back in August, when we discussed the massive inflation that was climbing straight up, I warned everyone to look behind the finished good prices, into the prices of origination and intermediate goods. {Go Deep}
The “producer price index” is essentially the tracking of wholesale prices at three stages: Origination (commodity), Intermediate and Final. The final product inflation rate in July (reported in August) was alarming at 7.8%. However, we warned of much higher flowing into the supply chain.
Today, The Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) released stunning price data for October [DATA Here], showing a dramatic 8.6% price increase in Final Demand products at the wholesale level. As expected prices are still going up, and there’s no end in sight, because the raw material inflation is still higher than current.
[BLS] “The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 0.6 percent in October, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Final demand prices moved up 0.5 percent in September and 0.7 percent in August. (See table A.) On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index rose 8.6 percent for the 12 months ended in October.” (more)
I modified Table A (final demand product pricing) taking out some of the noise to make it a little easier to see the big picture of what is happening.
When you see the wholesale level of prices almost double the increase in consumer level inflation rate, you can predict that consumer prices will likely go even higher. Future finished goods at a retail level will carry the current wholesale price increase.
Stuff costs a lot now… and because the inbound stuff to make the finished goods is still climbing in price…. stuff is about to cost even more. You can see this in the inflation rate of intermediate goods which I have highlighted below.
You can see from Table A that finished good prices are still climbing. That’s the higher price inflation you are feeling when you buy a product.
More alarming is to look at the “intermediate demand” products [Table B below] as they flow through the manufacturing system. Two types of products are at the intermediate wholesale level: Processed Goods, and Unprocessed goods.
I have again modified Table B to remove the noise. Notice two key aspects:
(1) Prices for both types of products are still climbing in the manufacturing process. Compare August, Sept., and Oct., noticing how the prices are still climbing. Some of that has to do with energy and fuel costs still climbing. The increasing prices for gasoline build into each part of the transportation process.
(2) Notice the scale of the increase in the prices from prior months. The trend line is not leveling off, instead it’s doing the opposite. The rate of inflationary climb (price increase), at the intermediate level of goods coming into the system, is getting even more steep. The stuff coming into the manufacturing process is not only costing more, it is costing much more than before.
The wholesale prices of products into the system that end up at the retail level is still through the roof. In a major way, this is being driven by massive increases in energy costs throughout the entire supply chain.
This is going to get even uglier. Even if wages jumped in price 5% overnight (single month), which would be a large increase in wages, those wage increases are nowhere near enough to deal with this level of price increase at a consumer level. A nickel more per dollar earned is futile against a loaf of bread costing $1 more, or gasoline at $4.00/gal.
Do what you can do now to start preparing your weekly budget in ways you may not have thought about before. Shop sales, use coupons, look for discounts and products that can be reformulated into multiple meals or multiple uses. Shelf-stable food products that can be muti-purposed with proteins is a good start.
Consider purchasing the raw materials for cleaning products and reformulate them yourself to avoid these massive increases in petroleum costs. Most working families use laundry detergent, and that cost is going through the roof with no signs of slowing down.
♦ EXAMPLE – Several years ago, a dear friend showed us a method for making laundry detergent at home along with a bucket. After using this for several weeks (and then making it) I was stunned at how simple, cost-effective, and good it works. Not only does it save big $$, but it works better than, or at least as good as, Tide or any other high-priced name brand product for literally pennies on the dollar.
What You’ll Need: {check your local store’s laundry aisle}
- 1/2 Cup: Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda {not Baking Soda}
- 1/2 Cup: Borax {you might be able to print a coupon here}
- 1/3 Bar of Fels-Naptha Soap {Mark the bar in thirds before using}
- Bucket {3 gallon size }
- Empty laundry detergent containers or bucket with lid to store detergent.
How to make:
Use small cheese grater to grate 1/3 bar of Fels-Naptha Soap over large pot or saucepan…
- Add 6 cups of water.
- Heat over medium-high until soap dissolves and melts.
- Add 1/2 cup Washing Soda & 1/2 cup Borax, and stir until dissolved.
- Remove from heat and set aside.
- Pour 4 cups hot water into bucket, then add Soap Mixture.
- Stir well, then add 1 Gallon + 6 Cups of additional water. Stir.
- Transfer to a bucket with a lid, or pour into empty laundry detergent containers.
- Set aside, and let it sit overnight, or up to 24 hours, to thicken and gel up. It will likely turn into a gel overnight.
- Consistency and color will vary depending on your soap & water ~ it may be lumpy and watery ~ kind of like a watery gel, but it works great!
- Stir or shake before each use, as it will continue to gel.
How Much Will it Cost?
- Borax, 76 oz. box ~ $2.98
- Arm & Hammer Washing Soda, 55 oz. box ~ $2.99
- Fels-Naptha Bar of Soap ~ $1.79
- Total Cost to make around 2 gallons: About $1.00!!
- This amount filled up my large empty extra-large Tide container from Costco and a smaller Purex container!
This recipe makes a low-sudsing detergent, and remember, it will turn to a liquid/gel after it settles, so you will need to shake the container before use. You can also pour it into a spray bottle to use as a pre-spot treatment. The 3 ingredients will make at least 3 batches and will last a long time.
I would not present this idea if it did not work exceptionally well, this was one of the most useful tricks I learned to stretch a budget that really does save money and work even better than high-priced laundry detergents. The home made detergent even removes hard soils and red clay stains from clothing remarkably well.
We are all in this together!
Necessarily skyrocketing?
Next comes rationing…just like gas lines in the 70s….
Only those with a vax will get a coupon for gas…everyone else is supposed to be home in quarantine
They will have odd and even days except using your last digit on your vax card instead of your license plate.
It’s almost becoming like a Mormon “Temple Card” …
Except this is a satanic vax card
Mormon “Temple Card”?
Some kind of weird divisive judgmental Mormon thing?
No. It’s just I’ve always found it very strange that a Religion would withhold admittance into the holiest of their Temples … if your tithes weren’t paid in full. A Religion that has the equivalent of TSA gatekeepers … doesn’t quite jive with the NT accounts of Christ’s teachings I’ve read.
I have many close Mormon friends, and don’t hold the churches policies against the “rank and file” believers.
And let me also add, that I worked very up close and personal with several highly placed Mormons, including a family member of one of the churches 12 Apostles. So don’t think I don’t know what I’m talking about.
Nothing personal … just a coincidental observation about a Vaxx Card and another type of card that EXCLUDES based on some human measure of piety.
Next comes gasoline becoming effectively unavailable. The 6uild 6ack 6etter Government answer? Buy an electric car for $40,000+. And if you can afford one, be prepared to pay$$$ massive electric rates to charge the toxic batteries (like my outrageous PG&E rates).
And if you can’t afford to drive an electric car? You’ll have to take the bus … and risk getting stabbed by a faithful follower of Allah.
Bingo.
Everything fall neatly together.
Maybe, but I expect the peasants will fight back and fight back hard when things get this bad long before we allow these criminals to force us to live in third world conditions.
This is not going to end well for them.
Be prepared! There are to many roads leading out of big cities that are direct routes to the suburbs.
Yes it will not end well for them either.
I sincerely hope you are right … however … nothing in our current political landscape gives me much hope
Bus? What bus? — rural desert resident
Sounds like a good way to get lead in the unleaded pumps.
I’ll get my gas from Brandon.
Yeah they can have fun trying to enforce that.
Just like when you ignite a rocket, it either goes up (skyrockets) or it explodes (destroys itself or is aborted).
And only those two outcomes can result.
If I remember correctly, one Barry Obama TOLD us back in 2007, that if he were elected, energy costs would “necessarily skyrocket.”
“Skyrocket” was the term he used.
It got my attention then and it’s getting my attention now.
If Obama had a son he would behave just like Joe Biden.
Will us domestic nasty-people be allowed to buy these items and concoct a clandestine laundry soap?
Thanks SD!
Now that our kids have long flown the nest, my wife and I live pretty frugally. I do most of the grocery shopping and squeeze a penny pretty tight, but haven’t got around to manufacturing our own detergent. I’ll keep the laundry recipe for future reference — Thanks Sundance. If you’re not quite ready to make your own detergent, here are a few thoughts…
I buy the huge bottles of second-tier laundry detergent at Megalo-mart. Actually have it delivered free. It’s less than half the cost of the expensive stuff, works fine. We also stock way up on their store brand dish liquid and dishwasher detergent. They are as good as the high priced stuff at half the price. The DW gel is actually easier on the dishes. The dish liquid works as well as high-priced specialty products to make spray cleaners and carpet cleaner.
We’re getting ready to refurbish our 18-year-old clothes washer and dryer — springs and belts. Looks like less than $20 for that. And we’re paying a lot more attention to what it takes to keep our old cars running forever. Focus now on the batteries (float charger since we don’t drive much), and pray we don’t get totaled.
You could criticize me for shopping where I do and buying what are probably Chinese imports. But I really don’t have the luxury of shopping more righteously.
Excellent coverage. I got indoctrinated early by Depression era parents so have lived that life pretty much all along. Since Covid my goal has been to eat on five bucks a day and pretty much have met or exceeded that goal even with some indulgences.
In these times I’m finding it pays to be a generalist, particularly if one doesn’t have a high demand specialty. With the Communists hell-bent on destroying the middle and working classes, it pays, literally, to have everyday survival skills.
Those of us who’ve worked in the belly of the beast for life, industry and critical infrastructure, usually have picked up general skills along the way. Stuff like fixing that washing machine, securing a water and food supply, constructing shelter, providing sources of energy, stuff like that.
Everyone has value. We can work together to win this. The enemy is formidable but I have faith.

1530, sounds like you have long developed living habits that my husband and myself started decades ago.
Habits that helped us raise five boys on one salary and buy and pay off hundreds of acres of farm and ranch ground with good water rights which includes many many wells.
My husband and I both grew up in farming and ranching families and started buying and engaging in this type of life long before it was cool, the city was the place to be in the 70s and 80 don’t you know instead of the rural areas we chose and were ridiculed by some family and friends.
But we hung on and now we are here in our farm house in a nice rural area with plenty of land and water and lots of guns and ammo to protect our interest.
Like you we started our thrifty habits long ago and kept them up even after the kids left the nest.
Old habits are hard to break, and we did our best to pass them on.
One of my daughters in law told me a while back that my son, her husband, was so thrifty that he could squeeze a bugger out of Abe Lincolns nose.
She was saying that he was a real penny pincher ( Abe being the one who has his picture on our one cent coin).
She was more than happy that he had this thrifty streak in his character and has been a cheerful partner in all of their endeavors.
They have 5 children of their own and have just finished paying off their home and have been able to invest in rental property also paying off one of their rentals after only 11 years of marriage.
They also do not go to Walmart every week and fill their cart with cheap Chinese junk for the kiddies.
They are also happy and have been able to take the five little ones skiing each season by not patronizing the more expensive ski resorts but the lesser known but just as much fun slopes and purchasing used equipment.
Economizing does not have to be dreary and depressing.
It can put you back in charge of your life.
Chloe, best to you!
No kidding! The FBI will start compiling lists of Fels-Naptha purchases. Hmmmm … Naptha … sounds “explosive”?
Damn domestic terrorists!! The FBI will keep us safe …
Their intimidation is working, as I started to post a snarky responce that, if taken seriously could get me labeled,..and “thought better of it”.
Kenji: You must be referring to domestic laundrists. Also known as whites supremacists.
“Two Napthas can get it white”? Uh oh … The AAPI anti-defamation league will be putting me on a list …

There is ONE universal TRUTH in life … for ALL people. Economics. Economics is contemporary Survival. Economics are the Information Ages equivalent of Stone Age Hunting and Gathering. Any disruptions in personal economics is the equivalent of a disruption of Stone Age game populations.
Our base instincts are finely tuned to our personal economics. It’s why we all get up and go to work in the morning.

How to make laundry detergent in 2021… how to cook zoo animals in 2023…
Not necessarily zoo animals at this point, but I would guess instance of poaching will increase
booger 71: I prefer frying to poaching 🙂
So true, we live in an area where now there is an abundance of wild game and fish.
At least for now.
We will leave the zoo animals for the city people.
I do believe they will come up with some tasty recipes, especially our Treepers who are extremely creative.

What is the safe internal temp on roast whole Antifa?
135F kills all blood born pathogens. They ain’t corn fed, they are soy finished. That is why I would go for braising verses dry roasted medium rare. My approach would be to lay down a bed of chopped onions in a slow cooker, cover with water and cook on medium and it should be about ready to finish when you get home from work. Easy on the salt because you are going to be reducing the broth.
Scoop any fat off the top and pour the liquid into a skillet and reduce the broth to half or less. Add a can of condensed cream of mushroom soup and your spices. Check your final salt levels.
I see what you did there. 🙂

We were energy independent when the dementia patient was installed. He scuttled that pronto.
Energy prices affect all other prices.
SD says 0bama was also “selected” not elected. Been thinking about, “by whom?” If remembering the argument correctly, think it was the SSCI & IC, so the same actors who installed the dementia patient.

When Obama ran for Illinois state senator, his first fundraising event was held in Bill Ayres’ home. If you’re not familiar with Ayers or his and Obama’s long term relationship, click the link below…
>>>Obama and Bill Ayers: Together from the Beginning | TheHill
Long story short, Obama was inducted into politics by Communists.
But, the way all things negative about Obama were quickly, quietly, and completely erased from the Internet and the public record simply could not have occurred without the knowledge and help of the intelligence community; i.e., the same deep state which is currently running the U.S. government, only this time with Obama in the immediate background behind their puppet, F. Joe Biden!
So… Communists gave Obama his start in politics which ended up with him obtaining the reins of power of the presidency; from which position, he filled the entire U.S. government and all its bureaucracy including all intelligence agencies with his Communist friends.
The rest is the history we’re currently living…
Obama beats McCain in 2008.
Obama beats Romney with less votes in 2012?
McCain/Romney were selected to lose.
The real contest was Obama vs Hillary.
My opinion only.
Naw, Hillary was never in the running. They were never going to allow that.
Try Russia and China.
Yes but the current acceleration in inflation has very little to do with energy and everything to do with manipulated distribution and costs by the mega multinational corporations who are deliberately doing this out of pure greed.
Nope. It’s our punishment voting for Trump.
The state has been “punishing” us for over a century.
Dollar had already lost over 90% of it’s purchasing power by 2000.
Only kids get punished. People with money get ripped off.
Inflation is the “stealth tax”(PT).
I can’t argue with that.
AND, we’re only fewer than 10 full months into this madness.
thanks for the recipe, Sundance! Fels Naptha is one of the scents from my grandma’s kitchen, plus bread and spaghetti sauce on her wood stove.
Middle class needs gasoline to get to work. They don’t want us to have a paycheck and all that that, can deliver.
It seems like the only thing that is not undergoing inflation is Joe Biden’s IQ.
DEFLATED – AND ON A DAILY BASIS !
This cannot herald a country, or at least a ruling Party, that intends to hold free and fair democratic elections in the near future.
And if the Republicans haven’t chosen an ongoing role as the Washington Generals, the fake opposition, then what other role could they be playing?
The same rule opposition parties hold in Russia under Putin.
The only difference, Putin isn’t woke.
Part One of the Green New Deal passed, so they have no other role. Most of them have declared war on us too. And the red state legislatures who let this election be stolen and not audited. The machines are still in place. The AZ audit didn’t canvas or audit machines completely. Why bother taking the job Cyber Ninjas, if you’re going to be threatened at the end and cave? You know they’re going to threaten you going in, just a shame it was the Senate’s lawyer. Ugh, stabbed in the back again.
So, this will be a rotten time to live through but there’s no way around it. Will be easier if everyone wakes up. Such coordination it’s astounding, cut off multiple means of communication and no gathering. A taste of what’s to come if they succeed. There’s more to life than biological living and the virtual world has failed.

Republican is a pretend choice. They all answer to the same money.
The Evils expect to have the NWO in place before the 2024 election, so that election will not be for ‘president’ but for the US representative to the UN/NWO council.
Let’s Go Brandon
This is WHY, IMHO they aren’t blinking at the recent election results; they know Brandon admin policies are EXTREMELY unpopular, and WILL result in a “red wave” that they can’t fully offset with Dominion.
But, it DOESN’t MATTER; the Republicons have got their flank, by insuring that RINOS will win the vast majority of elections that the Dems lose, and the Republicons will allow the insanity to continue, while protesting against it.
The GOPe will block ALMOST all America First MAGA candidates, at the primary level, and the few that survive that, they will deny funding, cause “they can’t win” which becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Ghomert, MTG and Bohner (sp?) will continue to be marginalised,..and the Global Conmunist march will continue.
RINOs are the controlled opposition of the left.
They’re the Democrat’s defeat mechanism.
They’re job is to demoralize you.
They come through here often and announce themselves without knowing it. lol. Makes me laugh because they pretend to be serious using nuanced DNC talking points.
The more you expose the uniparty, the faster and more absurd they become.
It’s like romney marching with “trained marxists” while calling himself a “principled conservative.”
That’s almost as good as AOC throwing herself on a coffin screaming, “save the Kurds!”. They had to pull her back quick on that one because that’s not the role she was cast for, she was reading Bolton’s script. Oops.
Without democrats, RINOs can’t win. Without RINOs, democrats can’t win.
RINOs need Pelosi to do their dirty work to secure the Uniparty.
My opinion only.

My wife and I use the recipe for detergent and it is FANTASTIC! it does work better. I hope everybody prepares accordingly
And they just approved massive amounts of money printing – that won’t cause inflation to get worse…
The Feds TWO…and two only…mandates. Keep inflation in check and maintain low unemployment. Not included is enrich the already fabulous wealthy and destroy the middle class, which is suffering and will continue to suffer, as intended by their Keynesian policies and with the approval of the most corrupt administration in our history.
.
They have failed on both.
It started March 2020 with the lockdowns. Take our lesson from that time when we should have protested more and been in precincts for the election. We (me) got way too lazy, we have to be activists now like they always have been. Get out and work for MAGA campaigns, get involved, run for office. We’re the live and let live people, but that doesn’t work anymore.
Honestly, Elizabeth, who could ever see the degree of destruction that this has become. We assumed integrity and honesty. Well, we now know differently. Until those are reinstated, we are facing an uphill battle. But yes, what you say is true. We just have to expose those Republicans who pose in conservative clothing but who in fact are charlatans. We will have to do our homework on each and every candidate.
Some people saw what was coming, I saw the comments here on the Treehouse.
But few believed them for reasons of their own.
And I see that many still believe that winning elections is the way to fix our problems and still do not understand that our the elections and even our courts are far far gone and not on our side.
Many are frightened and ask what do we do and complain that those who say the election system and our courts are corrupted do not offer a solution.
The ones working to help fix this problem will not give their solution out over the internet nor will they give an interview to Steve Bannon or Tucker Carlson and tell the Enemy what they plan.
But they have plans, do not lose faith or hope.
“Keep inflation in check and maintain low unemployment.”
And those two STUPID additions made to the Federal Reserve Act by CONgress in 1977 are EXACTLY why we’re in the position we are in today as it gave the Fed the mission of artificially tampering with the free market economy using simplistic GARBAGE economic theory and models whereas the previous, properly limited, and originally intended mission of the central bank was simply to act as a lender of last resort to prevent bank runs!
I forgot to add…Fed Governors and all of Congress becoming mega wealthy by trading stocks on what I can only call insider info. Something anybody else would be in prison for. So far I believe it’s up to 3 Governors resigning, or in the quaint phrase “retiring”.
Which they will be able to to do on ill gotten gains quite comfortably.
Next up for the chop…Fed Chair Powell. To be replaced by another uber dove Brainard.
As a senior double whacked by first, negative interest rates, and, second, uncontrollable inflation, in this house we are going to in ultra strategic spending.
Our options are extremely limited. And I blame the Republicans who have done squat to beat this down. I expect it of the financially illiterate Dems. They in concert have destroyed the bedrock of sound money.
May both their houses be cursed.
The detergent recipe is marvelous! I make mine dry simply by mixing everything together. When I do wash I mix it with hot water from the tap and pour the mix into the washer. Also if you like you can add a small amount of Oxiclean or an off brand type of same cleaner. IF you cannot find Fels Naptha soap, you can use Zotte soap also in the detergent aisle or use Dr. Bronners bar soaps.
How much of the prepared mix do you use for a standard wash load?
That did seem to be left out of the ‘recipe’ instructions, didn’t it!?!
We use a scant tablespoon of the dry mix for a large load.
Yes, please, how much per regular wash load? Thanks.
I have used Zote, too. It is a great stain remover.
I think I read here that Bronner is a socialist company.
Perfect!!
One look at Table A is all you need to know…last three months of the Trump Administration compared to the rollout of the Brandon Administration… even a dummy democrat could see that…if they wanted too…
even a dummy democrat could see that…if they wanted too…
The ones that I know personally have gone silent. Nigh a peep of politics from a one of them but they were pretty proud of themselves one year ago.
Tell them NO MERCY….
Show them no mercy. They’ll get the message.
We have to hope they do see it soon. And tell them, verbally and show them this website and others. The Democrats I know are still on the mandates and forced “safe and effective” vaccine side. They watch propaganda like CBS, which I saw last night. I had just watched the Rittenhouse star witness handing the defense the win, and CBS spliced and diced the hell out of it to make Rittenhouse look guilty beyond all doubt. They don’t mention the threats to the jurors, so the rioting after the verdict will be justified. Information Warfare. If any reasonable person only got their “news” from legacy media, of course they’d think we’re nuts.
On a positive note, intermittent fasting has lots of health benefits.
It does…if you can’t make it 24 hours, try all day until dinner, then make a special light weight meal with a glass of wine…heavenly.
LOL I love you people
Winning !!!
(not)
So it’s come to this. FJB.
This is 2008, all over again. Energy was the trigger. Where I lived, it topped 5$ a gall0n, 30 out of 55 cabinet companies, mine included, went under, within 6 months. 80% of our busines was gone. The problem was the crash involved production companies. Bush and Obama bailed out the banks, the construction industry was destroyed, there was nothing to come back to, till 2016.
One difference, President Trump’s economy hasn’t left here. The economy is so powerful, braindead Joe and his merry traitors will be gone, before they can destroy our way of life.
I recommend re-reading the article and other recent ones on the economy.
Incorrect. There are many ways they can destroy the economy, simply by stopping the expansion of the money supply will induce a contraction, perhaps a recession, and that just began from the Fed. Conservatives really must stop with this overconfidence and become sober.
Effective Jan. 1, 2022, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is named Secretary of Soup and Bread Lines, a new cabinet position created by the Biden Administration.
Pretty Sure Mark Levin calls him BReadline Bernie
What’s funny is I have on and off considered making that exact recipe myself. Might be time to try. If anyone could comment, I remember seeing this recipe left as just dry powder and you use something like a quarter cup per load of laundry. Am I mis-remembering or is that true?
I use a quarter cup (dry) for a regular load. A little more may be needed if larger load.
When I got my new washer, the installer, plus the manufacturer’s warranty, said that only HE detergent should be used. Regular laundry detergent “would gum up the machine.”
How does the homemade soap recipe align with this?
Oh, no! Only a scant tablespoon is needed for a large load. the stuff is that good.
Let’s go Brandon!
The thing I don’t like about that Fels Naptha soap is the scent they have put in it. I had to throw a bar away because I could not stand the smell of it. I use fragrance free laundry detergent. There is nothing so offensive as walking on a trail in the woods and you meet someone who uses dryer sheets…I mean they just reek…I walk past them very very fast.
Yeah, I’ve found myself to be allergic to any detergent that has fragrance in it. Wash the same clothes in an unscented powder or liquid and no problems. It looks like hives and itches like crazy. Same with body soaps. I’ve found minimal unscented soaps and hot water work pretty good to deal with the dirt and grease over the decades. Vendors who make industrial soap can make unscented easy, they simply make a batch that they don’t add scent to. Interesting business, I did machine work for a few of them as customers and they’d make stuff up for me as a favor.
Sad that citizens of a superpower have to think about such survival techniques as making their own soap but that’s life sometimes.
When I”m outside with a friend who uses scented soaps, the mosquitoes attack her and leave me alone.
Learning how to do things yourself can set you free.
Superpower or not.
We have lived this way our whole lives and do not fear the future.
If you don’t like the fels scent, you can 1. look for an unscented, no additive soap. Maybe Dr Bronner makes a baby soap in bar form. or 2. make your own coconut oil-only soap.
Bronner is socialist, according to another treeper.

Further up the Producer Price Pipeline, Inflation Rages at over 20%, Heading for Consumers
Massive price increases now building up in the pipeline
by Wolf Richter • Nov 9, 2021
https://wolfstreet.com/2021/11/09/further-up-the-producer-price-pipeline-inflation-rages-at-over-20-heading-for-consumers/
Just a word of caution as gas prices continue to soar – gas theft from cars on your property. Be vigilant.
This will happen. Locking gas caps will be needed again.
Except now there is a big problem. Locking gas are not vaporproof. So they will cause a check engine light and a DTC P0442 – evap small leak detected.
One might think to just ignore it. That may not be an option on some of these newer vehicles….
I remember hearing, during the aftermath of 2008 people were climbing under cars with cordless drills, drilling a hole in the gas tank, and emptying them that way.
Often, they would also use cordless angle grinder, to quickly remove the catalyctic converter, which has platinum/palladium in it.
How desperate and stupid do you have to be, to lay under a car, drilling a hole in a gas tank with an electric drill?
Soon not only will your car not be safe, but leave your house for a few days, and you will come back to find it stripped.
Its gonna get real bad, cause it HAS to get real bad, before a lot more people wake up to whats really happening,. .
I agree Dutchman, some people have way too much time on their hands.
And while some people are just trying to give some tips of survival to others some seem to be trying to freak people out and send them down the OH MY G*D road to fear and frenzy of worry over things that will not happen.
Instead of freaking and bouncing off the walls in frenzied worry perhaps settling down and coming up with solutions and ways to fight back that really work.
We are not entirely helpless, we have strengths and assets.
We need to focus and use them.
We constantly make fun of the hapless Joe Biden and the clueless Kamala and then too many fall down in a helpless faint like a Victorian maiden when a headline from the press comes out with a doomsday threat with The Biden/Harris Administrations latest commie pushdown.
These people are not unstoppable.
Someone pulled that off at the AutoZone I worked at last year. Drilled a hole through the plastic tank in the Colorado. Next fill-up was a FJB.
Good point and one reason I prefer diesel and standardized on it decades ago; it keeps for a long time without degrading, isn’t nearly as flammable as gasoline and demand for it by everyday people is far lower so less likely to be a theft target historically.
Unprecedented times though, good caution, pays to keep vehicles garaged if possible too.
I have used this homemade detergent for many years and keep the dry ingredients in a 5 gallon bucket in my laundry room. I use a paint mixer on the end of my electric drill to mix it all together. When using hot water to melt the ingredients, my whites come out brighter and cleaner than when I use bleach. Inexpensive and a nice clean scent.
I haven’t prepared a liquid version, but I will now! Thanks Sundance.
Thanks for this resipe, we had it and lost it after we moved. to all who commented on using it dry how much to use per load?
A quarter cup or more. I have used a little more if larger load.
Some sites have said a couple of tablespoons for dry. That wasn’t enough to clean well. Hard water may take a little more.
we use only a scant tablespoon for our hard water.
I think I first saw that soap mix from BexarPrepper in about 2008 or so. It works…it ain’t no Tide. But, hey…I still have it in my pantry. It **is** hard to mix up unless you make the fines like SD shows.
And, they used to laugh at us.
Watching her do stuff is the thing to do now. Start canning. Start other stuff. She will show you. Jars are at Dollar General and elsewhere. Bexar is an truly outstanding woman.

Great recipe! Thanks Sundance.
I always use arm & hammer when I wash the covers for my dogs bed and when I wash rugs!
The trick is to always use warm/hot water. Pour it in after water is in machine so it can dissolve.
And that is only one of the great ways to use it!
Once again I thank my Mom and humble beginnings.
4gypsybreeze: I just wash the dogs.
Ironic you brought up laundry detergent. I feel like were in a huge Communist washing machine being agitated to death.
Thank you, Sundance, I love the home made detergent. You’re the best in so many ways!

Daisy Luther is a very smart lady, she has been ‘there’…her info is well worth time spent.
Oh nuts, just bought laundry soap today….
I’ve had inflation indexed bonds for 20 years that have a composite rate made up from a base rate of 3% plus or minus a “inflation” rate that is periodically set by the treasury.
When Trump was in office, I was getting almost zero interest because of negative inflation
When I looked last week, my composite rate is 10.3%.
This is an admission of (at least) 7.3% inflation.
They will never let the real inflation number out. But you knew that.
One law that would really help: make false packaging illegal.
I buy about 1/3 air in most dry goods. Don’t buy often, but figure almost 40% of potato chip bags are air.
Just bought some Hormel “lunchables”. I knew something wasn’t right just picking it up and checked against an older package at home: 25% less weight. Same width/length of package but thinner. Of course the price was only a few cents MORE.
This kind of misery would/should wipe out a political party. Only 2 things keep that from happening:
-a 100% in the bag media for the left to keep the low info dumbed down
-a complicit fake opposition party
We are at the end stage of our country’s history because we just could not drop our psychotic dependence on the GOP.
“25% less weight. Same width/length of package but thinner. Of course the price was only a few cents MORE.”
Called “shrinkflation.” If the manufacturer thinks they have reached the maximum price the customers will pay, but are hamstrung by increased manufacturing costs, they have to reduce costs somewhere.
https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/knowledge/economics/shrinkflation/
Essentially, shrinkflation is a form of hidden inflation. Instead of increasing the price of a product, something that would be immediately evident to consumers, producers reduce the size of the product while maintaining the same price. The absolute price of the product doesn’t go up, but the price per unit of weight or volume has increased. The small reduction in quantity is usually unnoticed by consumers (at least that’s what the manufacturer hopes).
Shrinkflation is widely used by producers in the food and beverage industry. It has become a common tactic to help producers deal with their own inflation problems from suppliers. Many companies determined that their customers would balk and perhaps begin to look for substitute products if confronted with yet another price increase. The solution? – Shrinkflation.
Note that shrinkflation cannot be viewed as a fraud or misrepresentation of products. Producers always indicate the weight, volume, or quantity of their products on packaging labels. It’s not illegal – it’s just sneaky.
I often use the liquid in canned goods as part of soup stocks and bases. Good water substitute and some have seasonings as well.
In today’s environment, the nitrogen in chip bags, as example, can seem annoying given the amount of chips in there but the vendors who pack the chips into smaller bags with little to no puffing leave them more vulnerable to the vagaries of transport damage.
I found this recently with ‘fried onions’, historically a topping on salads and casseroles; in the old days they’d come in a rigid cardboard and tin can and now in a soft-sided resealable pouch with minimal ‘puffing’. Net result was more powdered fried onions than anything remotely representing the picture. Big change from the past and a turnoff to buying that product and packaging.
I never expected your laundry detergent recipe on this site. But, what the heck-well done!
How odd to read the directions for making laundry soap.
About a week ago, I was telling my daughter abuout grating the Fels-Naptha as a child during WWII.
We were greener before all this BS started with the Greenies & their climate change.
Now every individual pill in hospitals comes single dose packed in plastic & aluminum. Billions of packages that will exist for eons. One example among hundreds I could cite.
These Greenies couldn’t control the climate in their yards.
That climate change they talk about is why there are seashells in the Mojave Desert, frozen woolly mammoths with grass in their stomachs in Siberia. The Earth is undergoing constant change & these airheads need to learn one thing: Control their mouths!
Interesting that you mentioned the Mojave desert.
I was raised in the Az desert and we learned about getting the most out of the little water that we had down there.
When I moved to Colorado I was shocked at what seemed to me to be horrible waste of water.
Now the farmers here where I live go down to where I grew up to learn how to conserve water because we have so many people moving into Colorado and our water resources are being streatched beyond anything ever expected.
The American west is dry dry dry and now many western states are starting to learn from their desert state sisters how to make the water go farther.
Those of us who were taught thrift by depression grandparents are way ahead of the live of the moment wasters who depended on the local 7-11 for what ever it was that they lacked.
Slurpees up the wazoo and expensive condiments and dish soap were never a problem for my generation.
I am so glad my husband and I took a different road.
I have really enjoyed the comments here by thrift loving Treepers who were never ashamed of their life style when all of the rest of the world were “spending their way to prosperity”.
Any body else here old enough to remember the 80s and the extravagant living that was on show?
My husband has a couple of sisters that broke their husbands by spending spending and even spending more.
They had to have the latest carpet, furniture and appliances and filled their McMansions with all kinds of new stuff every few years.
Each of their 4 or 5 kids had to have their own bedrooms and with the birth of each kid they had to upgrade to a bigger McMansion and new furniture.
None of them would think of shopping at a yard sale or thrift store.
Sadly several divorces and bankruptcies later while we are holding our own they are flailing and their kids are a mess.
That was the 80s for you, and that was just the beginning.
A superpower built on debt and foreign manufactured junk is not much of a superpower.
As a very long term stock market investor I have done very well. I find it amazing that Producer Prices Rose 8.6 Percent in October, and massive inflation is continuing with no signs of slowing down; and yet there is no effect on the continuously rising equities market which is now at all time highs. An old Wall Street saw has always been, “Don’t fight the tape”. And so far that has paid off handsomely in spite of the incredible economic headwinds we face. However, for me it has that feeling of dancing on the deck of the Titanic to band music while marveling at the beautiful icebergs. Predicting economic events and stock market moves has always been a fool’s game. Economics, known as “As the Dismal Science”, is an elusive art at best. Still, I can’t help but believe that this is a house of cards being propped up by the FED in the form of “quantitative easing” or more simply put just printing trillions of dollars as needed. Is the current Modern Money Management theory valid? I have to wonder if we’re going to soon, or at least in the not too distant future, find out. Financial prudence is absolutely essential at this time…..
I find little solace in the value increases of my “paper investments” in this house of cards either. Even money is funny money. These days I am looking more into what will be of high value barter items.
Tools, generators, ammunition and guns, FOOD especially stable for long storage food.
The “prepper” freeze dried, specially packaged good for 25 years stuff is expensive, and largely unnecesary; regular canned goods, in dent free cans, properly stored will last MANY years.
Heritage seeds (where the seeds from the plants you grow, can be used next season) are a worthwhile investment.
Growing your own food is NOT just a matter of poking a hole incthe dirt, dropping in a seed, and watering.
START growing food, NOW as there is definetly a LEARNING curve, and you don’t want to wait till you are dependant for your life, on food you grow, to learn how.
In our mobile society, another consideration is to learn how to grow stuff where you live now. I’ve lived in rural NY, FL and now AZ high desert. Each place has different soil and weather affecting how to garden and also what you choose to grow.
Everything goes on…until it doesn’t.
We, on a fixed income, have savings on which we hoped to “earn” a modest rate of interest. That is now a dead issue. We cannot afford to join the WS casino and lose all.
But like you, it has amazed me that with inflation continuing to sky rocket and no end in sight, in a saner time the Fed would have started increasing interest rates modestly to tamp it down. Think Milton Friedman. But the Fed is now backed into a corner and Wall Street knows it. It has become the only game in town. Good for 401Ks. For the rest of us, not so much.
IIRC, the current “Modern Money Management” says governments create money, and can ALWAYS “just print more”, endlessly.
So, you first have to totally ignore everything you ever learned about “supply and demand”, and throw common sense out the window.
MONEY is simply a medium of exchange, for time and energy; thats ALL it is.
The Government expends -0- time and energy, to “create” more $. They don’t even “print” it, anymore, just a few keystrokes on a computer and viol’a, they have “created” another Trillion $.
Its like “perpetual motion”; it can’t POSSIBLY work. And yet Yellen and all the Financial whizkids and experts BELIEVE it can, with a fanatical, religious fervor.
God Help us, cause nobody else will; not the Courts
not the “free press”
not the Military
not the Political process (elections).
not ANY of the Institutions as they have ALL been corrupted by the “long march thru the Institutions.
Sure as hell, NOT by the GOP.
ONLY WE, the People (with Gods help) can possibly overturn this mess.
As a Canadian that just 30 mins ago was literally only a few feet from the U.S. border.
I would like to pass on this information for any CTH supporter interested.
Our heavy oil, and natural gas producers are “ raking in the dough”
Some are hiking dividends and actively buying back stock.
“Moneyed” Americans are buying a fair amount of quality real estate, and a good friend in the financial business tells me
U.S. players are significantly involved in both Canadian energy and the real estate speculation.
Case in point a forty year old rancher on a relatively small lot, a couple of blocks from us was listed one day, and sold over ask to a couple from Connecticut!! The ask was up 40% over prices from year or so ago.
We are located in the very southwest of British Columbia, on the coast.
We often observe vehicles with U.S plates on our roads.
However we are now seeing plates from Utah, Colorado,California, and even Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Of course we have countless Washington State plates driving around.
Something is going on, we have never seen anything quite like this in our forty or so years living around here.
Cheers!
I had Spectra Energy Stock, US based. Enbridge now owns/controls them, Canadian base. USA residents must now pay 15% annual tax that is non recoverable. If you don’t update residency forms every 3 years it’s another 30% withholding. Too many hoops to recommend but I’m not selling mine as it’s doing well. Keep it in a brokerage acc’t, I use TDA and you still pay 15% div tax but no w’holding paperwork to worry about.
Computershare holding company will screw you and that was default transfer agent after merger.
There have always been people who ebb and flow where ever the latest some what fad of anything pops up.
We are not savvy people when it comes to investing, my husband always said invest in what you know so we bought agricultural real estate.
That is what we both knew, neither of us really trusted WS even though my grand parents did invest heavily in it for years up until the 1960s.
So now after staying with the plan and paying everything of we are some what OK with what we have because we know it.
We have watched other run here and run there moving and hoping for a killing and some did OK while others did not.
There seems to be no quick money and no easy living.
This week I got a short-term sell signal I haven’t seen in six-weeks.
Joe Bidung : “Venezuela, hold my beer !”.
Just so you know.
Fels soap bar no longer contains Naptha or benzene as it is known in Europe.
Toxic to the environment so they say.
Naptha was its claim to fame for getting oil and grease out.
Guess you could always add a bit of Coleman stove white gas to it, that is Naptha.
From an Amazon answer.
For optimal use as a pre-treater, collars and stain areas should be wetted with water and then a Purex Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar can applied to the affected area.

Question:Is this a natural bar soap? I”m thinking no since it’s made by Purex, a company that uses chemicals in its cleaning supplies.
Answer:Fels-Naptha soap contains sodium tallowate and sodium cocoate or sodium palmate kernelate and sodium palmate. Sodium hydroxide is the lye used to make soap with tallow, coconut oil, palm oil or palm kernel oil. It also contains water and talc. Coconut acid, palm acid and tallow acid are fatty acid emollient and surfactant cleaning agents from plants and animals. PEG-6 methyl ether is an extract of juniper. Fels-Naptha also contains glycerin, an emollient; sorbitol, a sugar alcohol derived from fruits, corn and seaweed, a moisturizer; and sodium chloride, ordinary table salt. Pentasodium pentetate and/or tetra-sodium etidronate are inorganic salts used as emulsifiers and dispersing agents. Titanium dioxide is an opaque white pigment. The soap also contains fragrance, source not specified and acid orange and acid yellow colors. Fels-Naptha contains solvents that dissolve greasy stains, including oil, grease, perspiration, chocolate, baby formula and cosmetics. The wet bar is rubbed into stains before putting clothes into the washing machine or grate about one-third of an ounce of the bar into the washing machine as a detergent booster. It has been used as a folk remedy for contact dermatitis caused by exposure to poison ivy, poison oak and other skin irritants, but the Dial company warns that Fels-Naptha should not be used directly on your skin.
Considerations: Some of the ingredients in Fels-Naptha are of concern, such as titanium dioxide, which is known to contaminate the ocean and lakes and harm wildlife. According to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), Fels-Naptha is safe for consumer use in the laundry, but the MSDS warns about occupational hazards, and those working with Fels-Naptha soap in industrial settings are required to wear safety gear including goggles and gloves because it is an irritant.
What is Naphtha?
Naphtha is the name for a petroleum derived solvent, and includes such solvents as gasoline and kerosene. Originally Fels-Naptha contained benzene, another name for naphtha, which dissolves oil and so is very useful for oily stains. This ingredient is what made Fels-Naptha such a success, making it possible for homemakers to get their laundry cleaner with less effort. However, Fels-Naptha no longer contains benzene.

would it be a bad idea to add 1/2 c of white Coleman fuel to Sundance original recipe? would that small amount be enough? Maybe a full cup?
You can always replace the Fels Naptha with i scented pure Castile bar soap but I have found it doesn’t work as well.
I purchased Nellies Laundry Soda (auto delivery) on HSN as a Today’s Special with free shipping years ago. It’s a 500-load tub for $49.95 and it lasts me a year. I have not purchased in store laundry detergent in over 5 years. I have noticed on HSNs web site the prices have gone way up for this product. If they have another Today’s Special on this product, check it out. I’m so glad I locked in on the price and free shipping years ago.
The sideways shit-storm that is going to level large swaths of this country hasn’t even made landfall yet.
Most folks don’t have a GD clue what’s in store for them.
FJB!
Agree, an awful lot of totally “lost” people, crying out for the Government to HELP them, as we see after every “natural” or man made disaster.
Clueless, lulled into complacency and dependancy,..sheep for the slaughter.
Something to think about. Suppose Trump or Gov D gets elected in 2024 and starts reversing Team Biden’s actions.
Will business return to taking risk, Purchsing capital equipment, rebuilding their companies? Instead of inflation cycles in the 70’s and early 80’s will businesses now contend political cycles and how it impacts growth?
Simple answer? IMHO it won’t happen. The Big Club, that neither Trump or Desantis are IN, will not “let” them in.
We have already seen, the GOP work hand in glove with the DNC to prevent PDJT from getting his rightful second term.
And you actually think they won’t effectively control who “wins” in 2024?
You hypothetical is a fantasy, the political process won’t “save” us, any more than the military will.

We live in SWPA where it is not uncommon to get a 250$ water bill per month. We own rental properties and STR’s..I’m terrified about this winter’s utilities and STR Bookings..we also got caught up in the rental eviction moratoreum that was extended in our BLUE county until Oct 31…the county has four different agencies administering the ERAP Federal money to landlords..after two court hearings and hours spent calling agencies and advocates I found out today, after seven months that my back rent of 6000$ is floating around in limbo. My tenant is using 187 gallons of water a day . We pay over 16,000 a year in property taxes..insurance is through the roof, furniture had doubled in a year..it goes on and on. Thanks for the detergent tip..I think my grandmother used this recipe during the depression..sad
S Indiana if a tenant skates leaving an unpaid sewer bill that goes as a property lien if landlord doesn’t pay and sewer bills here are worse than water bills. I’ve been in rental re over 50 years and I’m totally out as of this year.
Putting a big chunk into Altria stock, mo, 8% div and addicts feed their tobacco habit in hard times. good pot play too with cronos. Raw bugout land is triple what it was 3 years ago – commercial retail is half
Very sad situation P Ward.
If you are making payments then default on your loan and let the bank take the property.
Stop making the tax payment and let the city/county take the property.
I know you will not do this but we will soon get to this situation as it will become part of the ” do not comply” citizen protest.
When owners do not make payments and are willing to go into foreclosure and face eviction making the banks reposes ( which lending institutions DO NOT want to do) and when full ownership property owners refuse to pay taxes and the city/county must take possession the you know what will hit the fan.
Some here believe that this is the plan for the government to eventually own everything and it might be but in reality it does not work out well at all.
Every where it has been tries in marxist/fascist history it has failed and it will fail quickly and spectacularly here.
I do hope we do not get there and this awful mess will be fixed first, America is not Venezuela or Germany or Iran or even western Europe.
Those are dinky little countries with much smaller population with inclusive mentalities.
We are different in so many different ways.
Where has it failed? Marxism has successfully installed dictatorships everywhere it has been tried.
We had a (Smartmatic) Venezuelan-style election installing an un-duly elected regime.
Now we’re (just) commencing Venezuelan-style inflation.
Then we’ll …
Hey all you stupid duped Joey “Kiddie Soap On A Rope” Biden voters- I know you come here. Hows all that lowering of expectations working out for you? Did mean old President Trump demand that of you? Funny thing about Uniparty induced economic pain- it doesn’t just target Deplorables, you shitheads.
Which they will discover and wonder why. Perhaps that will be the start of much needed education, though I don’t hold my breath on that one.
These Demented Fraud voters will be the 1st ones with their hands out when the wheels fall off. They should get in the habit of that arm movement business. They’re going need the muscle reflex of raising their arms when they think they’re going to steal to survive from the conservatives they hate so much
Well stated…and they’ll be the first ones to be “compensated”.
This takes us right back to our roots, American Ingenuity and the American Dream home-brewed laundry soap. Sundance Thank you The Marxist can’t take the American out of us it is in our DNA our strength.
The pioneers of America both male and female were amazing and there have been nothing like them in the history of the world.
We have their Spirit in our DNA and it will be awakened if these crackpot commies do not stop messing around with our beautiful country.
Another site to check is https://theprudenthomemaker.com/. Nine kids (2 out of the house now), husband is in real estate in Vegas, she home school, has a photography business and a fabulous vegetable and fruit garden. They were slammed by the housing crash in 2007/2008 and she couldn’t grocery shop for a year. She wrote about that in 2009, https://theprudenthomemaker.com/living-on-our-food-storage/. It’s definitely food for thought on what you will need if you can’t go to the store or if there is nothing to buy.

Thank you Mari in SC for the link. I spent time reading ALL the wonderful information she has on her site. I especially enjoyed the canning section. I plan to return to her site for addition information (one of the better sites I’ve seen!!).
This might sound strange but I really like the gentle, uplifting tone. Her flower pictures always make me smile. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I enjoy these sites about being frugal. Thanks for the link, Mari.
Cost-cutting tips for the end of the world. Pinch pennies for the apocalypse.
Nothing ever done to solve the problems. Just treat the symptoms. “It can’t go on forever” or something, I guess, maybe…
It is possible to treat symptoms while solving the problem, no?
I agree, do people understand this will be the new normal? They act like this is some temporary thing.
I don’t blame Sundance, I like his optimism, but it basically sounds like there’s no way to actually stop this destruction of the currency.
Beans and bullets are the new gold.

Stagflation. Basics drawing all of people’s funds, discretionary purchases will go down. The government will print and disperse more money, inflation goes up more. We are in a vicious cycle.
Remember the 1970’s when the Uniparty -led by Nixon’s severing of The Gold Standard, Ford’s cluelessness, and Carter’s typical DEM agenda – gave us huge inflation and mortgage rates of 17%.
The 1970’s are back!
I just saw a blurb about the New York Times whining that Americans have “more cash” and have “better jobs” than ever before…but we think the economy is terrible, just because of “temporary inflation.”
Clearly, WE are the problem!
we’d be lucky if the 70’s were to be back.
I doubt it.
