The guns are behind a locked door with the key in the Owners pocket. ……… This stops a lot of theft and accidental shootings by kids etc. It does take a little longer than getting a Coke out of the Fridge. …….. But it does not stop what Americans at one time called ” Minute Men ” from quickly grabbing their gear and going out the door to join up with other like-minded people. And THAT is what a few on this site go on about.
It doesn’t stop a home invasion where the perpetrators break in during the middle of the night. If you have small kids, keep the guns with safety on and up out of reach of them. If they’re a bit older, say 7 or 8, then you should have them become familiar with how guns work and have them shoot at a target so they can see and hear how powerful and dangerous it can be.
If children understand and respect something, they aren’t likely to go exploring to get that thing that mommy and daddy won’t let them play with. No kids that have hunters in the family go playing around with the rifles. It’s almost always the family that never wants their kids to know they own a firearm whose child ends up shooting themselves or a sibling out of childish curiosity.

You have to first request permission to purchase a firearm and demonstrate a valid reason for having one (i.e. you require for hunting, and in that instance have to have proof a hunter’s license). Self-defence is not reason enough. If you do get a gun, it must be locked away and your bullets have to be locked away separate to your gun. What we’ve also seen in Australia, is a rise in knife crimes. And by the way, the restriction of gun ownership has NOT STOPPED criminals from acquiring and using them. Big surpirse.

I was a country kid and in the Army and taught early on you do not mix alcohol and shooting… but i also remember in my childhood days that the local blokes would go shooting with trucks and spotlights after drinking from knockoff time to closing time etc. Stoopid. Unfortunately The Aussies gave up their best deterrent. I am certain most of you understand what that means. But let me tell you what it really means (bigger picture). You just have no clue how fast they will bring that show to a town near you one day. One moment it will be like the day before, the next moment there will be no going back. There was nothing organic about what took place. That was well-financed, highly organized, well-supplied terrorism with the overt assistance of most levels of the local government to achieve the desired results.
I don’t know your situation, maybe you live in a fortress in a geographically defensible position. If not then just how do you expect to rely on that gun to survive? Can you defend every window on every side of your property 24 hours a day against an organized pack of vermin? Can you stop arsonists on all sides numbering in the hundreds or even thousands? You still have the luxury to not face those considerations, whereas we have faced them. We do realize that we would need a platoon of determined warriors to stand off the size of terrorist packs that are being fielded.
Every sane person in the nation needs to wake up and step up now before the cost to stop this goes even higher. You don’t need to go to a hot spot and seek out physical conflict but you better be finding ways to at least throw sand in the gears where you can while you still can.
Our best deterrent is courage and common sense. Our best deterrent is to ask questions and demand answers. Where I live (BC, Canada) we’ve had no mask mandate for a couple of months, yet I would guess around 90% of people in my area still wear them. Even outdoors – alone!! That was very good, heartbreaking actually. I love and appreciate how Stew allows his guests to actually speak and tell their stories w/out interruption. Only once have I heard him make reference to having to take a “hard break” and cut off someone while speaking.
George has also announced he is resigning from Parliament at the next Election to potentially move to the Philippines with his mistress. Yes, she’s Filipina.
I like George, but he should stay in the right rather than run away.
The Pilgrims that went to the “New World” from England, ran away from what they perceived as tyranny.
The New World offered freedom. Philippines may be offering freedom.
I know they’re now offering a lighter vaccine that may free Filipinos from covid tyranny.

Certainly it is good to see someone in parliament speak up. OTOH, notice how empty the chamber was? Hansard was probably the only one that heard.
I’m sick of seeing comments about Aussies giving up their firearms.
Americans didn’t give up their firearms yet over 500 of you have been imprisoned (without trial), many in isolation, for protesting/touring the Capitol.
Having a right to a firearm or not, is not an issue regarding COVID draconian measures.
