Treepers, as you can see below, I copied this from Spoogels comments several years ago, and saved it for this post, so thank you Spoogels, and Happy Independence Day to all of us. Stay strong, resolute, and proud. Spoogels says: May 27, 2019 at 9:25am
EDITOR’S NOTE: When this column first appeared in JWR two decades ago, on May 28, 1999, it was read on radio stations across the nation and went on to become what would, years later, come to be termed “viral”. We wish that the author, a long-time friend of JWR’s publisher, were still writing today. PLEASE SHARE via social media. “An American credo, By Don Feder”:
ON THE DAY when we memorialize those who gave their lives so America would endure, we should ask what it means a citizen of this republic. Here are the thoughts of one American, a credo for the coming millennia.
I am an American. I was conceived at Plymouth, born in Lexington and Concord, and reached maturity at Philadelphia.
I went through the fires of Shiloh, Gualdacanal, the Chosin Resovoir, Khe Sanh and a thousand other battlefields, and emerged rededicated to the ideals on which America was founded.
I am an American. Ever ready to defend my liberty and independence, to make any sacrifice and bear any burden – still, I seek no quarrel.
I march to the sound of the guns out of necessity alone. I fight not for glory or territory, or to make others bend to my will, but to vindicate my rights and preserve my freedom.
I am an American. I’m proud of my past. Words like Valley Forge, Gettysburg Address and Pearl Harbor — names like Washington, Jackson, Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt — make my blood stir.
Glancing behind me, I see generations of men and women who labored and struggled, lived and died to let me stand where I am today — who cleared the land, planted the crops, built the factories, raised the cities and made the discoveries that created a civilization which all the silent, suffering ranks of slaves, serfs and subjects who came before them could never imagine.
I am an American. While recognizing the errors that were made in nation-building (has a nation ever been built exclusively on light?), I proclaim America’s past glorious indeed, a boon to humanity, and consider myself among the blessed of the earth to share this nation’s destiny.
I am an American. Liberty is my birthright. To speak my mind, choose my leaders and legislators, defend my home and family, and worship the Creator in my fashion — these are not privileges, but G od-given rights. Governments can respect or deny them; they cannot change them.
I am an American. I have no rulers. Those who make, interpret and enforce our laws are servants. When they no longer recognize that verity, their authority loses legitimacy.
I am an American. My rights are a sacred trust to be exercised in the cause of justice and virtue. They are not the playthings of a spoiled child or mechanisms of self-indulgence.
I am an American. English is my language. Our ancestors arrived on these shores speaking everything from Chinese to Yiddish. It was English that united us, that allowed us to overcome age-old antagonisms.
From the Mayflower Compact to the latest piece of legislation introduced in Congress, our history and heritage are written in the tongue of the Magna Carta and the King James Bible.
I am an American. I have no distinctive race, religion or ethnicity. I am black, white, yellow, brown and red — Catholic, Protestant, Jew and Hindu. I came here from the hamlets of Old England, the bogs of Ireland, Napoli’s sunny shore, the Pale of Settlement and the villages of Vietnam. American isn’t a color or creed, but a state of mind.
I am an American. I welcome immigrants who are here to work and build, who identify with our past and ideals, who were spiritual Americans before they landed. Broken English is fine, as long as faith remains unbroken. An American speaks with the heart as much as the lips.
I am an American. My ism is Americanism. I reject all dogmas and ideologies. Collectivism, racism, militarism and imperialism have no place here. The rot that’s eaten away at the soul of so many nations and cultures must be fiercely resisted.
I am an American. I recognize only one loyalty higher than allegiance to our flag — faith in G od. I acknowledge that America and G od, the physical and the spiritual, are inseparable. America was founded by people of faith and grew to greatness by His grace. I pray that we will always be the instruments of His will.
I am an American. I weep over the fact that American history is no longer taught in our schools. In its place is a worldly, cynical skepticism inculcated by authors and educators at war with our basic values.
I am an American. I cringe at the collection of connivers, cowards, clowns and quacks that passes for our political leadership. I wonder that so many of my compatriots have no idea what America means and show no gratitude for the blessings that are theirs.
I am an American. My ranks grow thin; the night closes in. Whether I will be the last of my kind or the vanguard of their resurgence, only time will tell.
Thank you and may we all continue to maintain and strive for Americanism.
And enjoy this little tidbit from Mike and the Mechanics – Silent Running
Celebrate your Independence Day and remember those who gave so much for it.
Awesome… thanks John for posting! Happy Independence Day.
FREEDOM!

Old timey M193 that is
Enjoy it while we still can.
When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle. – E. Burke
No, my friend, fight for it no matter how bad things look
Yes…
It is far better to go down in a pile of hot brass while fighting for freedom than to lay in an old folk’s home watching the garbage on TV while waiting to die…
Stay out of my foxhole.
This is, indeed, a great piece for our nation’s birthday as well as every dayof the year.
The things paragraph from the last and the penultimate paragraph are particularly, chillingly omniscient.
We are now experiencing these same cancerous attacks on the foundations of America, increased by an order of magnitude. It will take not only waking our people up but also a miracle as great as the one our country experienced in winning our independence from England to overcome it.
It was a wholehearted fight, not a miracle.
It was both, IMHO.

WORDS OF WISDOM from The Epoch Times
“Independence Day: freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.”

A Safe & Happy Independence Day To One & All.
This should be required reding in every classroom several times a year. Oh yes, and read at every congressional sitting in DC.
I concur. However, the first thing Congress would do is remove all mention of God. Then, over time, either drop or change the meaning of all other meaningful words and/or phases…
Send it to your rep
Ask her/him to read it
Our Reps read nothing we send. Only their “aides” and they are truly deep into their ‘work’. Anytime I ever called McConnell’s office I got a snickering, snarky, I am better than you, piece of collegent social science major. These persons care even less about their country than the Rep himself.
Don Feder is a lovely man and his books are great reading: ‘A Jewish Conservative Looks at Pagan America’ (1993) and ‘Who’s Afraid of the Religious Right?’ (1996)
Daily prayer for the country (the long version)…
Thank you Lord for the blessing of this life and the blessing of this day, the blessing of growing in the grace and knowledge of God, the blessing of praying for all other people, for whom we are thankful, please work your good and perfect will in our lives this day.
We thank you and praise you for our country. Thank you that we live with relative peace and security, and that we still have the freedom to speak out against injustice when we see it. Thank you for all of the good gifts that you’ve given us, for all that we have around us, especially those things we take for granted.
Father we pray that you would give us a government with laws that promote justice, honesty and truth, bringing opportunity to those in need and having compassion on those who are broken.
Father we pray that you would give us politicians who have clarity, integrity, and passion for what is right. Give them great intelligence to solve problems, but please give them great strength of character, to stay away from anything corrupt, or sinful, as well.
Please thwart the evil plans of men, and expose the evil deeds of men so that they will not escape justice, and rescue from destruction the innocent, the helpless, the unwary, and the unsaved, especially those children and seniors who have been forcibly separated from their families, please work your good and perfect will in their lives this day. Bless and protect all who travel, conduct business or attend classes today*, that they may do so free of threats, danger, and destruction, please work your good and perfect will in their lives this day.
We pray that you would bring great healing to our nation where it needs it, bring about a generation who will stand against the tide of cynicism, to act justly, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with you.
Bless all who love us and all whom we love. Bless and protect Donald Trump, all of his supporters and allies, all lawmakers who uphold Biblical principles, law-keepers in all branches of the military and in all law enforcement agencies – especially those Departments which are under attack – Sundance and all others tasked with ending corruption by bringing the truth to light, and ALL of their families, working your good and perfect will in their lives this day, so that with wisdom and discernment they will lead spiritually fruitful, spiritually productive lives, and as happy, healthy, and long as you have appointed with your good and perfect will, free from malevolent interference.
Protect us from a slow agonizing destruction we pray.
In Jesus’ name, for His sake, and for His glory, we pray.
Amen.
*on Saturday add ‘or go to Temple’
*on Sunday replace with ‘attend church today’
Daily prayer for those with the balls to “stand up” for freedom:
Lord, Let my aim be true,
Let my hand be faster than those who would seek to destroy me.
Let not my last thought be: “If only I had my gun!”
And, Lord, If today is the day you call me home,
Let me die in a pile of hot brass, as I leave them laying in the grass.
I am an AMERICAN! Thank you Sundance!!!
Born of a legal immigrant who spent his youth learning of the American Experiment. At the tender age of 13, he realized the world was big. That America was the place to be, to escape poverty.
Dad worked in a NZ shoe factory before his other adventures. When I was 8, during one of his merchant marine trips to the UK, he brought me a pair of brown and clunky, (‘sensible’ by British standards), lace up school shoes. Truly, they were ugly!
Those shoes were made in the factory that he worked in as a young kid…
My dad cherished the American part of his dual citizenship…never let me know that I was anything else, but American.
God Bless America!
The dream continues…we must remain strong and vigilant. We must teach our children and grandchildren, that freedom is truly only one generation away from being extinct.
Fortunately, my own kids have relatives who fought in the revolution, so they know…but will their children?
God Bless my fellow Treepers and Sundance/the crew….Have a safe and joyous Fourth!
Are you really an “Aggie” Aggiegirl ???
We should also be thanking Menagerie, who actually posted this article.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
Psalm 33:12
Thank you Sundance for posting these very befitting comments on this our great nations 245th Birthday of independence. I’m proud to be an American, and always will be. The brevity of the words one of our founders Benjamin Franklin, used to describe what type of government we had “it’s a republic if you can keep it” can not ring truer than at this time. God bless America!
Thanks to Sundance, our site host, and Menagerie, a

This sounds lovely but there are some problems with it. For one thing, as a primarily Christian nation in our origins we often do embrace dogmas, if we are Catholic, for example. That enhances our Americanism, not threatens it. We say the name of God, Jesus Christ. This nation was typically founded and has been sustained with Him in mind and by His sustaining us in His mercy. There is no substitute for that and if we do not recognize that, our collapse is inevitable. The evidence of that is all around us as our people “push the warm hand of God away” and many live in rebellion from Him.
There are liberal aspects to this declaration. Liberalism is insidious. It starts out with a nice idea then morphs into ugly reality when we realize nice ideas often don’t work all that well. I’m sure the writer meant well. Happy Fourth of July all!
I think you’re splitting hairs here. I posted this, and I am Catholic. Most who know me would absolutely call me dogmatic. I think this paragraph was political in intent, written by a Jew who may or may not have been religious, I’ve no doubt his understanding and appreciation of his religion would be based on the fact that its origins were necessarily dogmatic.

Frequently I see religious comments posted here, mostly on the OT, that I consider to be wrong, sometimes heretical even. We don’t allow comments that are outright attacks or insults on another faith. Every week we get probably at least a dozen, often more, comments spewing hatred toward Jews. One person who has been banned still tries to comment labeling Sundance and everyone else he hates a filthy Catholic Jesuit.
Nevertheless, as an admin I try to let the comments be unless they are just insulting or deliberately damaging. We want to give people a voice here. Mine is one of them. I’m volunteering my time here, as are all the admins, and there is a limit to what I’ll take personally and in defense of my faith, but my voice is not the only one that gets to be heard here.
No one American could write a piece like the above for all of us. We are millions, we Americans, and we can’t come up with one blanket to cover all of us, and thank God for that. I think the author did a fine job of putting his patriotism into words.
Thank you Menagerie for all your efforts.
A fellowship that brought me back to life, and salvaged my very young family.
A family that now has beautiful grandchildren.
That fellowship has a strong foundation in Christianity and the word God will be found in all of its literature.
Yet it has no adherence to one particular faith.
Yet encourages individuals to, if so desired to reacquaint themselves with their place of worship.
Although this outlook may not appeal to many regular church goers.
My experience over the decades has enlightened me and brought me much closer to God than I ever thought possible.
Over this time I have learned so much about many faiths and regularly walk, talk and have visits with Protestants, Catholics, Sikhs, Lutherans, Baptists etc.
I believe a Power much greater than myself directed me to this site shortly after the famous escalator ride. Thank you for efforts.
Although not an American I and many freedom loving folks around the Globe will be “ with you” this July 4
I will be heading down to the beach shortly and enjoying the view of Washington State on the other side of the bay from our place in Southern B.C.
Cheers and all the best this July 4.
Your spirit is so much more “American” than that of many who live here. Always enjoy your posts.
Cheers, and I yours.
Thanks Dekester, hope your weekend is great! My husband gets to go to BC sometimes and I’m jealous. It’s helped by the fact that he brings home great salmon.
Cheers,
Our family goes back at least five generations of commercial fishermen ( oops commercial fisherpersons ??)
Two of whom are presently fishing Prawns and Salmon around Vancouver Island.
We regularly run into Americans heading to or from Vancouver Island and the terrific fishing grounds of Uculet and Bamfield.
Their coolers are always stuffed with Halibut, Salmon etc.
We have never chatted to an unfriendly one.
Cheers, and thanks again.
Our Father God is very big, currently bring us (as a nation) to our knees that we might remember Him and our need for Him.
He will be our help against the Luciferian marxist tyranny currently assalting us.
He remembers the Compact He made with those people on The Mayflower. He will be faithful to it and to them. He will help us overcome and be restored.
What you consider a collapse is merely a beginning of restoration.
I believe we all understand that many institutions in our nation have been moved from a solid foundation to structurally unsound ones. In order for that to be changed, the unsound must of necessity, collapse. Only then, can these institutions be restored on righteous foundations as at the beginning.
As painful as this will be, I am looking forward to the restoration and the prosperity it will bring to future generations here in our nation and around the world.
If we hew closely to the founders’ conceptualization of America, we’re likely never to go astray. It was, after all, founded on the notion of religious freedom. Most of the original settlers were persecuted sects of Christianity and came to America to live and breath the fresh air of freedom of expression and of religious worship. The wise founders knew we lead a temporal life here on earth. Their wish was that we live freely and prosperously with one another, with peace and love in our hearts. We should try, in some measure, to fulfill their magnificent dream. I also believe that, in their minds, wars and bloodshed fought over the words of biblical interpretation was the insanity of the past. America was founded in the Age of Reason. We should continue to live and pray with that liberating spirit in mind.
Happy Fourth to all.
I raise my glass and tip my head. Onya America.
If you have the interest and the time, check into historic newspapers of your town to see what festivities and such were held in celebration of Independence Day in the past.
May the coup ultimately fail and the Republic be restored. God Bless the real America and damn the traitors which would seek its destruction.
?????????? She ain’t perfect, by any stretch, but she’s mine. And I’ll damn sure defend her to my dying breath.
May God please continue to bless our nation. ??????????
I am grateful to be born in the USA. May we save it by the grace of God.

Thank you Menagerie for posting this.
I must say I was very moved when I first read it and thought I had to post it.
But I never read the comments under the original article at JWR
I just did
Equally moving AND VERY upsetting is the first comment by Ray Sarlin, May 28, 2019.
I won’t post it
Read it for yourselves
I
Oh my! You are right. It was hard to continue after reading that first response.
Happy Independence Day to all real Patriots like my fellow Treepers! Molon Labe
Worth watching again, or if you’ve not experienced this, ENJOY!!!!

First time I heard this, its fantastic.
WOWEE! Left me with tears; so very powerful and spot on. Wish I could forward to those who kneel (for their own selfish reasons). Thank you, SNA, for posting this!!!

Why We Fight to Defend this Republic
Dear Patriots,
This weekend’s celebration of our Nation’s independence reminds us at Defending the Republic why we keep fighting for all of you who “pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America–and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands–one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
Despite the death threats, the law suits, the efforts to take our law licenses, the frustrations, the disappointments, the lies and betrayals, the set backs, the de-platforming and more, we are optimistic, relentless, undeterred, and cheerful warriors in this current battle to save our nation from the evils of communism, fascism, and totalitarianism.
We are able to pull up our socks every day and charge into the breech because of the memory of men and women who did the exact same thing 245 years ago and in endless wars since to protect our liberty. Against all odds and better judgments, these imperfect humans formed the perfect union.
We derive our determination by recalling them and what they did for the world. We are resolute that their enormous sacrifices not be in vain. This country and the beacon of freedom it is for the world are worth fighting for.
We pray that our efforts are as divinely impactful on our children’s children’s children as our Founding Fathers were. In that vein,we strive to not erase their history, but to recognize it and improve on it. We strive to not forget their battles, but to honor them. We strive to learn from them–the good and the bad–and we must, even today.
On this Independence Day, July 4, 2021, we offer you a simply lovely speech by then President-Elect Abraham Lincoln.
It is important to read the words of those who came before us to instill in us the same measure of purpose.
###
On Abraham Lincoln’s inaugural journey to Washington, he stopped in Philadelphia at the site where the Declaration of Independence had been signed. He gave an unplanned speech in which he spoke from his heart.
One of the most famous statements in the speech was:
Oh, that all of our elected ones based their time in office on such an uncomplicated but important goal. Is there a more profound yet simple motivation for those we elect to lead us?
Fittingly, this hall also was the place where Lincoln’s body lay in state after his assassination in 1865, one of many stops his funeral train made before he was laid to rest in Springfield, Illinois.
###
We are honored and humbled that so many of you have joined us and support us in our efforts. We accept your commitment of support with gratitude and humility. In fact, it is your commitment and trust that drives us to stay the course.
Thank you all for being in this battle with us. We hope in some small way to measure up to those who came before us.
A most joyful celebration of our country’s independence we wish for you and your families and friends, and may God bless America and inspire all to return to Him.
Hold Fast to all that is Good,
Sidney and Team Kraken
###
Thank you Sidney Powell for all you are doing to save this Republic! Godspeed Sidney Powell, Sundance and President Trump!
Thanks for sharing this, brother. Stand fast and push back at every turn, Patriots! We will prevail.
To the best country in the world – Happy Birthday and may you continue to be that beacon of hope for people for many, many years to come.
May American exceptionalism come back with a roar.
Happy Birthday America!
The one and only land of “SYSTEMIC OPPORTUNITY!”

Thank you for all the wonderful people from all over the globe that come to America for its Blessing. Together we stand for what is good in the sight of God and Country Happy 4 of July to all and new beginnings to restore our great Republic.
Thank you !
Happy Fourth everybody! I’m so glad to be an American. I love my red white and blue flag I. I love living in the age of President Trump. He showed us what a president should be. Thank God and God Bless the USA! In spite of the current problems, We are truly blessed!
The globalists truly want to destroy America. But, wouldn’t it be wonderful if out of nowhere they, one by one, started to disappear. Maybe that would instill in them a fear of the Lord.
They are trying to destroy the entire world. They have already picked the European nations. America is ripe for their picking.
“Stand your ground, don’t fire unless fired upon, if they mean war, let it begin here.” Capitan John Parker Minuteman Commander facing the British army at Lexington Green.
We must never forget the eight year fight for our independence against the most powerful empire at the time. Freedom is never free! Happy and blessed Independence Day to all.
From John Adam’s letter to his wife Abigail, Adam’s views the future for celebrations of the “Great declaration”
“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.
“You will think me transported with Enthusiasm but I am not. – I am well aware of the Toil and Blood and Treasure, that it will cost Us to maintain this Declaration, and support and defend these States. – Yet through all the Gloom I can see the Rays of ravishing Light and Glory. I can see that the End is more than worth all the Means. And that Posterity will tryumph in that Days Transaction, even altho We should rue it, which I trust in God We shall not.”
I’ve often said that America is the only nation in the world founded on an idea. Every other nation in the world is founded on the basis of either that — geography or ethnicity or religion.—Joseph B Biden
America—founded on an idea
America—a state of mind
First they tell you what to think and then they tell you how to think.
The only proper role of civil government is to tell you what acts are prohibited and what the punishment is for violating them.
When citizenship becomes a test of psychology or philosophical fitness, we will be ruled by mullahs or Philosopher Jings.
Yup!
“… G od-given rights. Governments can respect or deny them; they cannot change them.”
My favorite right there.
As the great Rush Limbaugh would always say, man yearns to be free.
As long as we keep freedom alive and praise God for this beautiful land we have been given, we will always be free.
So my friends take out those grill and shoot off those fireworks, have great parties and celebrate like you’ve never celebrated in your life.
Happy independence day to all of you!
Ditto !
A Happy and safe Fourth of July to you all…
Happy Fourth of July. May we always celebrate and honor our freedoms. And, God willing, we get through this insanity.
That is AWESOME!!!!!!!! I agree, and I’m sharing this. God bless the USA.
Thank you, Menagerie. Happy Independence Day and God Bless America!
Menagerie, Sundance, fellow treepers, I hope you and your families have the best that life has to offer, on this beautiful Independence Day. Our great nation continues to endure during trying times, because of its Patriots. The naysayers love to criticize and belittle, our beloved US of A, but as has been said before, they remain, never leave. Why? Because they know, what we Patriots have always known, with all its faults, it’s still the greatest country on earth. God bless you fellow treepers and your families and God bless America.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA ??
American by birth. Southern by the grace of God! ??
Ditto on both!
Me too!
…three!
I got here as soon as I could. Staying put.
Same, my friend.
Southern on dad’s side, northern on mom’s. Lived north. Visited south and always loved it. Moved to SoCal when San Diego and Orange Co. were still red. Stomached the change until a couple years ago. Live in rural South now and love it.
Bayougirl
And the same for me! Louisiana
Absolutely….exactly what I declared at our Independence Day meal! Best fireworks this evening in my southern Trump loving neighborhood!!!
