This is a specific example that needs to be drilled down quickly so that people with only a cursory interest in politics can understand how it impacts them. Biden’s $1400 stimulus checks are useless, literally wiped-out, when compared with the increase in gasoline prices already in place as part of the Biden energy policy.
Gas prices have already jumped $1/gal in most areas as a result of Biden killing the oil production energy sector. Factor in the increased transportation costs for goods and services, including the costs associated with deliveries of home meals, Uber rides, products delivered, airline charges; and the gas price increase hits the family checkbook far beyond the $1400 provided for stimulus.
Add to that charge and the increases in electricity prices, together with the increase in product costs that are based on petroleum (rubber, plastics, containers etc), and you can see how the increased cost of Biden’s ridiculous energy policy hits families even harder. But wait…. it gets worse…. If that were already not enough of a problem, Biden is now proposing a mileage tax on top of a gasoline tax increase that will hit the middle class much harder. [SEE Video at 01:30]
The middle-class commutes to work much more than all other sectors. Any increase in gas prices, gasoline taxes or mileage taxes hits the blue-collar worker at a disproportionate rate. A proposal to install a mileage tax does nothing but add another cost onto the American middle-class.
This is an issue of leftist policy, as the far-left now move to push their climate change agenda and simultaneously push federal infrastructure spending. Of course, in order to keep advancing their severe leftist agenda, the democrats have to pretend not to know things.
(Via The Hill) […] Biden said during his first solo press conference on Thursday that he will announce the $3 trillion proposal on Friday in Pittsburgh.
The next day, his Transportation head said a mileage tax could be one way to help pay for the plan.
“I think that shows a lot of promise,” Buttigieg said. “If we believe in that so-called user-pays principle, the idea that part of how we pay for roads is you pay based on how much you drive.”
“The gas tax used to be the obvious way to do it; it’s not anymore,” he continued. “So, a so-called vehicle miles traveled tax or a mileage tax, whatever you want to call it, could be the way to do it.” (read more)

Don’t forget natural gas.
CHICAGO, March 26, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) warned Friday that several major Illinois utilities will increase their residential natural gas prices by a range of about 35.2 percent to 68.9 percent on April 1.
Several cities in the NW say no more natural gas in housing developments, and they want to tear out existing hydro dams. So are we supposed to burn wood?
Wood is on the list as climate warming.
The left want us to freeze to death in the dark!
Off shore bird choppers and natural gas shipped across the ocean from Russia….yeah, can’t get much stooooooooopider.
They won’t be happy until we’re back living in caves … or dead.
[h/t Ayn Rand from 50 years ago: “Return of the Primitive: The Anti-Industrial Revolution”]
Dominion Energy – the VA energy company that bought out SCE&G in SC – already slapped a 15% electric rate hike on us. Barely waited for Trump to be out of office. Charging “solar fees” now too, so anyone with solar panels on their house are now paying out their nose.
so rates are DOUBLING?
some developer here could make a tidy sum by building a complex of mini houses for the dispossessed.

increased costs for gasoline, natural gas, property taxes, you name it.

Carbon taxing is just a way to tax you after paycheck so that the government is not seen as the bad guy. They will carbon tax cows and then when there are no cows to eat the grass, they will tax the land holder for growing grass because it contains the carbon that the cows were farting.
Carbon tax is an interesting topic and directly related to the Paris Climate Accord. But you are right. Everything will be carbon taxed: automobile owners, people who heat and a/c their homes, cattle ranchers, you name it. Nothing will escape the carbon tax.
Dr Shiva in the 1st video in the article explains this connection and how all the elites are clamoring for a carbon tax (including Prince Charles) because there is big money to be made in the commodities and futures market by the financial sector. Expect more offshoring of manufacturing and lost jobs in the US. And our govt will just waste the money as our deficits and debt will continue to spiral upward. China loves this and they won’t carbon tax anything. Video is 11 min long and goes fast.

Money does not get carbon taxed. Lower incomes will pay a greater share proportionately to their income. We are all in this together…
And you’re penalized for your city not having adequate public transportation. Setup the situation for increased taxation and then tax away.
Hahahahahahahahahaha.
Eat your cake serfs.
They stole the money collected from the gas tax for other crap. What the hell do you think will happen with this money?
Aaaand do you think they will replace the current fuel tax with this one? Oh hell no. We will get the privilege of paying both.
On a positive note, a mileage tax will impact all the greenies who bought into their electric car narrative.
And, unlike a gas tax which is hidden in the price of gas and paid gradually throughout the course of a year, a mileage tax will be more visible and painful when it hits people in one lump sum annually.
As well as all those who bought high miles-per-gallon gasoline vehicles. Someone with a vehicle that gets 40 mpg will pay the same as someone with a vehicle that gets 8 mpg, assuming same miles driven.
Yes, you are right about paying the same assuming the same miles for a new mileage tax, but the gas tax will remain and in fact will be increased, for that tax, the 8 mpg will still pay 5x what the 40 mpg pays for those same miles.
It would only be fair if all gas taxes were discontinued before instituting a mileage tax, but of course that wouold never happen.
Uh, you think they are gonna charge mileage taxes on an electric car? Nope, they are trying to kill the internal combustion engine.
If highway infrastructure is financed through gas taxes and they eliminate gas-powered vehicles, then they have to find a new way to replace lost gas tax revenue.
Mileage taxes are their answer.
So far, electric car owners have been subsidized by gas-powered car owners when it comes to highway maintenance costs.
Forcing people away from fossil fuels meant that an alternative to the gas tax was inevitable and they’ve known it for quite some time.
Electric car owners have been allowed to receive a free ride, but now it’s coming to an end.
Highways are traveled by electric cars, too. Therefore, they owe a contribution to maintenance costs.
I am curious –
Do those so called ‘electric’ run better on juice produced from gas fired or coal fired or oil fired power generating plants, or nuclear generated power?
Since there is no plan in place to responsibly replace the generating capacity of the above mentioned energy production sources, how the hell are all those new electric cars going to get charged?!
How will trains, planes and ships get powered? Where will homes, schools, businesses, factories, etc. get their energy?!
My oh my, such perplexing questions.
They have a mileage tax in New Zealand. At least they did in 2004, when I rented a camper van. When I returned the van I had to record the mileage and pay the tax. Can’t we object?
“If we believe in that so-called user-pays principle, the idea that part of how we pay for roads is you pay based on how much you drive.”
—–
Bullshift. The government spent our gas taxes on everything but roadway infrastructure and now this little weasel smiles as he tries to bend America over and stick it to her? If they pull this stunt I can envision highways all across America shut down by massive traffic jams for weeks and months if that’s what it takes. If this were Arabia, Sir Laurence would’ve put his Arab sappers to work.
“Infrastructure”
Remember:
in 2017 PDJT wanted to do an honest infrastructure bill. Airports, highways, harden the electric grid to survive EMP attack, water supplies – the real deal. And the booming Trump economy would have paid for it, without a tax hike.
Trump the builder would have done it right, with good bang for the buck.
Also remember who failed in 2017 to lift a finger to help PDJT get that done: Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell.
One would think that Con., Inc. and their operatives Ryan and McConnell deliberately stalled on this topic in order to hand the left-wing of the Uniparty Airplane a weapon to bash middle America.
Every vehicle will be required to have a GPS odometer installed to measure the mileage traveled.
Law enforcement to ordinary citizen, ” We see that you drove to the location of the protest … ”
“………aaaaaaaaaand we see you have been speeding, based on the GPS data, you will now pay for that ticket as well as the court costs.
We are watching you.”
Where I live they have a racket. If you get a moving violation they tell you that if you plead guilty and pay court costs they will waive the fine. Court cost: $186.50. Oh! And if you pay for a safety class, which they conveniently provide, they will also drop the points against your license from the moving violation. The classes are in the evening and usually run just shy of $100.00. The major point stressed in the classes: If you get a ticket and points against your your license your insurance will increase.
So, they basically make it in your best economic interest to plead guilty, whether you were or not, then extract another pound of flesh for your temerity.
Same thing in So. Calif. If you do want to dispute the ticket, they’ve set aside one day a week from the hours of 5 to 7pm to appeal. Lines are long, so most people just pay up.
Being a GPS installer could become a very dangerous occupation.
Correct, Stormy. This has NOTHING to do with tax revenue. NOTHING to do with CO2 or global warming. This is all about tracking people’s whereabouts by requiring GPS monitoring. Just like the push for electric cars is more about keeping people on a short leash than “emissions”. Ultimately personal autonomy will be strictly conditional.
The basics are even worse than that:
Was trying to explain this, plus the increases in gasoline, food costs, heat and electric to someone the other day, but they were too excited about “the dough from Joe” hitting the bank to pay the slightest bit of attention.
$1400 for our birthright is a bigger ripoff than the original sale of Manhattan Island for $24.
My neighbors daughter and son in law were excitedly telling us how they were going to use their “dough from Joe” to buy a new used pick up that they had their eye on for a few months.
This was a very nice couple with four children.
Hard working husband/wife and four children who were tickled to get the money and put it towards a vehicle that they badly needed.
They could not see these expenses coming because they needed this truck badly.
Learn the hard way.
They should wait. When gas gets high enough, the price of any vehicle that gets low gas mileage will go down. I bought a cheap SUV the last time that I am still driving.
The acid test for the character of a people is to associate real cause to real effect. In Venezuela, with all the debacle brought about by socialism, the majority of the people still think the solution is to keep the socialism but change the management.
The left is trying to import as many of these people as possible to attain the same conditions here. In Detroit, Chicago, California, and other leftwing paradises, they have already succeeded.
Power means control and that requires money, which is why the power-hungry Democrats never met a tax they didn’t love … as they tell their victims it’s for their own good and that they’ll thank them for their brutality.
It’s more sinister than impoverishing you to make themselves and their donors wealthier. The mileage tax means they are always tracking your movements. Endgame is you won’t be able to leave your state or County without permission. Get ready for vaccine passports to drive anywhere beyond a 30 mile radius.
Or cross state lines.
This is richly amusing for the simple reason that Californians often have a very long commute to work.
What is more, gas is already more expensive there than almost any other state.
It is undoubtedly sinful to rejoice in the misery of others but perhaps I could atone for my transgression by purchasing a hair shirt or listening to one of Joe Biden’s press conferences.
Next, they’ll be taxing for how long you are in your vehicle along with mileage. Traffic jams… you pay more. Try to drive around to avoid them, more mileage, more money.
Not just Cali.
The test run with the China virus made working at home something people accepted. Now they are used to it and many may want the choice. Commuting in the numbers that we had before just might be a thing of the past. As planned?
People that make things have to commute. You can’t bring the factory to the house. It the great boom in working from home, almost none of those that benefited actually made things.
“If we believe in that so-called user-pays principle,……Okay, so I haven’t used a public school district in decades. Or the public library what with the “information highway.” Have never called 911. I’m very glad we have the police and fire department, but I have never used them. There are others, so do I get a refund?
If you do not have children who are currently enrolled in a tax-supported school, you should rightfully receive a corresponding credit on your property taxes.
The last time I brought that up with my tax-accessor collector, he laughed, agreed, and said that ain’t never gonna happen. And he’s right.
I sent my son to a private school and paid school taxes.
Do I get a double refund?
Time to buy locking gas caps again for the car.
The word “millage” had me scratching my head until I figured out you meant “mileage”.
Millage rates are for property or real estate taxes.
The only reason they can do this is because they are not elected.
Just checking in to see if our “resistance” is still comprised of not buying stuff.
ANTIFA and Black Lives Matter don’t commute to work and welfare recipients don’t work at all!
California and Oregon have already started using a mileage tax in certain counties. Those who have elected to be included in participating mainly drive eco or electric cars. They all claim it’s only fair to pay the mileage tax because they aren’t spending as much on fuel, so this way they are still helping the government continue to pay for roar and infrastructure repairs. They’re freaking idiots.
“Elected to be included”? You mean it’s optional? Well it ain’t going to stay optional.
VAT by stealth. It will increase yearly without fail
“So, a so-called vehicle miles traveled tax or a mileage tax, whatever you want to call it, could be the way to do it.”
Profligate Pete is uniquely qualified to insert himself into a national policy proposal regarding “the way to do it.”
Evidently he will supplant Bill Clinton in that role.
We filled up our tank today. $60 and change. Charleston SC.
Slightly more than filling up a California lawn mower.
Four months ago, it cost us $45 to go from empty to full.
Personally, I’m looking forward to this and any other inflation. It will hurt, yes, but the idiot left have to feel the pain and feel it bad. There are few places I need to go. I’m not enthralled with the latest this or that. These people need to hurt really bad. The faster the better.
So, the people who get to use Amtrak and subways will pay nothing, yet we all subsidize those rides?
Bike paths / lanes too.
Until they go back to making bikes have plates like they did during the war.
Think they won’t make you have ins, tags, etc added later for your own good ?
Easy to tie your cell phone to that plate and charge you mileage to pay for those bike paths.
Conservatives are going to have to ride a bike to get together – and leave their cell phones at home. I’m dead serious. We might end up using carrier pigeons to communicate at the rate things are going.
Hit hardest will be the working folks who drive a great deal during the course of their jobs and write off mileage as a way to mitigate the cost of driving. Not only will they lose a deduction, they will pay additionally for the “privilege” of driving.
Everything is a weapon…
Welcome to ” The Hunger Games “.
Judge Dredd ( Karl Urban version ) Utopia optional.
“If we believe in that so-called user-pays principle, the idea that part of how we pay for roads is you pay based on how much you drive.”
What about all of the Democrats’ welfare programs?
Wasn’t Obamacare based on the concept that younger and healthier people who don’t utilize as much healthcare services will help subsidize those who do?
The entire welfare state is built on the principle of some people paying for the “use” of others.
Instead of continually crying about the need to tax the rich, maybe they should be crying “tax the user.”
That should go over well with their constituents.
I just can’t take buttplug seriously. Just can’t.
When you get the notice to bring in your vehicle to be retrofitted with a GPS tracking device you will. God forbid.
back to carb’s ! try to track dat….. lol

Surely there’s a racist element to people that work for a living having to pay a milage tax
You’re right… non-whites will be exempted from the mileage tax.
Two years ago, Jan and Feb 2019, we got almost a month and a half of free electricity, home and business, in the middle of winter because the company was refunding us for “Tax Cut & Jobs Act Credit”. I just ran across the invoices/credits while preparing for 2020 taxes, and cleaning out two years worth of paperwork.
Can’t wait for the gas lines again!
What “user pays principle”???? I’m already paying for all kinds of crap that has NOTHING to do with me. If only those of us who pay taxes could down down to just being charged for what we ourselves cost!
Wonder what happened to our “edit” button?
Thanks Butt-Gauge! So wait, IRS says I’m not eligible for the latest $1400 stimuli. So, therefore, I’m exempt from the new gas prices at the pump{doubly?} and any forthwith mileage tax? Ha Ha HaHa! I’m LOL at myself!
The electric vehicle crowd bought in part to avoid gas cost and gas taxes. Now, if they charge per mile driven, your odometer is what will be taxed. So, looks like the libs are going to get their sticker shock on the back end, too.
The industrial era, that period of time in which mechanization blossomed, is the key to universal prosperity.
The industrial era is not possible without massive energy usage. Take away fossil fuels, and you are left with nuclear for its energy value, but you still haven’t made up for the raw materials derived from petroleum.
You might as well wish for petroleum to be buried ever deeper in the earth’s crust so that it’s that much harder to find and retrieve. The net result will be a massive shift toward poverty and not prosperity.

Though obvious, most people still do not realize that higher fuel prices immediately affects production and logistics. Everything costs more not only you daily commute.
The people will scream at the government to help out. A disaster that was artificially manufactured by Government in the first place.
Here’s your $1400 stimulus check! You’re welcome. Oh and we’re gonna need $2800 of that back.
Don’t believe what they say on the gas tax increase only. Every tax has to be raised they have spent so much money that bills are coming due. The free ride is over time to raise every tax the pipe piper has come due.
So if i’m driving a 67 nova, how will they be able to tell anything?
They will need a OBD port to calculate the milage.
You might say they will take the milage when you do an inspection…
I’ll just disconnect the speedometer cable when i drive it.
I would start looking for an auto PRE OBD to have as a spare car…and fix it up real good
them old falcon 6 cylinders pushed close to 30 MPG….
They can just require that gas pumps only function when your RFID-specific GPS tracking device is within close proximity. No GPS tracker, no gas. You’ll get a monthly mileage bill just like the Tesla owner. And they’ll record everywhere your car has been.
Use the mileage tax to make driving so expensive people will want to use these bullet trains they’re promising to build.
It’s so much easier to convince people that they LIKE working from home. Look at all those taxes you are saving by not driving anywhere! Pay no attention to your food & product delivery logistics cost… all those grocery picker services are going to double in cost, sorry!
You cannot “Build Back Better” unless you destroy everything first.

My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the Turbine Freight
To far outside the Wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits
Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime
Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge…
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware
Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I’ve got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside
God Bless America (and Canada too)

This makes you wonder if Buttigieg knows how to even drive, last I heard was about the boondoggle in nov2019:
quote:
Democratic presidential frontrunner Pete Buttigieg is calling for a vast expansion of “national service” to enlist a million young Americans to perform federally approved activities. Buttigieg says his program will “repair the social fabric in our nation” and “build social capital.” But Buttigieg’s “call to service” could quickly become a “summons to submission.”.

Nudging the public is what social scientists like Cass Sunstein (advisor to BHO and husband to Samantha Powers) excel at. Actions like this, the “Covid Passports” and all the rest is part of the fundamental transformation Obama promised.
