Forty percent of Austin residents are without power, and up to a total of four million Texas residents are suffering under extreme cold conditions as the state power grid is overwhelmed. Making matters worse, a shortage of natural gas combined with failures of most wind turbines due to ice and freezing temperatures have dropped power generation.
TEXAS – Nearly 200,000 Austin Energy customers woke up without power Monday and were not expected to get it back until Tuesday — possibly late in the day — because of a so-called rotating power outage that didn’t rotate, leaving parts of the city in the cold and dark.
The outages began in the middle of the night, leaving swaths of neighborhoods without electricity, as already freezing temperatures dropped into single digits during an extraordinary winter storm that has raised questions about the city of Austin’s and the state’s ability to handle such an event. The Houston Chronicle reports: […] “Natural gas supplies for electric generation are already strained in the winter, the peak season for gas used for heating, adding pressure to supplies used to generate electricity.”
The Texas Railroad Commission, which regulates oil and natural gas in the state, said Monday afternoon that some producers, especially in the Permian Basin and Panhandle, were experiencing unprecedented freezing conditions, causing concern for employee safety and affecting production.
[…] “This event happened quickly, and the amount of load that we needed to remove from the grid was significant. It was in a very short time that we maxed out on all of the available circuits that we had to disconnect,” Sargent said. “So because we’re at a max limit, there’s no more energy that we can shut off at this time to bring these customers back on. Basically, we’re stuck here.” (read more)
Good news. Results are on the way.
About 200,000 residential customers are coming back on line now.
More are expected in the coming hours. https://t.co/8AlqYOycT8

I didn’t have electricity for 36 hrs because they had to keep their damn windmills warm!
The same damn windmills that don’t work when it’s cold, hot, wet etc…
And the solar panels need windshield wipers in the snow we sometimes get.
DON’T AUSTIN MY TEXAS!
I got a way to keep those bird and bat choppers warm: &ehk=silhWhF3woCpRwn1oBYoKkqX48fhge8P1anoiwhdRa8%3d&risl=&pid=ImgRaw
20.000 to go.
The horses won’t stand still long enough to warm up, they just set off at a gallop
And the ladder on the fire truck only stretches 1/3rd of the way up the tower. . . . . Good planning warmists !
There are literally thousands of these on the Buffalo Ridge. They burn up every day no matter what the weather!
Quit whining, you don’t know what cold and snow really are. There is no green energy that can save the planet. It will kill the planet and millions of people first!
“It will kill … millions of people first!”
That’s the Deep Green Truth
Whereas Austin is Leftist Central in Texas, all I can say is that karma is a b!tch!
They closed down perfectly good Lignite plants for this.
The Germans already went through this green weenie energy issue. They are in the process of building more power plants now. Some gas fired, some coal fired!
While trying to figure out how to start their nukes back up for long term operation. Due to policy they have no replacement workforce. No one went to school to be able to work there because they thought it was done.
I have to say, the lignite plants of the 1970s weren’t good neighbors, even dozens of miles away.
I remember my grandfather’s clean air on his freehold got hazy ca 1970 when Texas Electric started one. But natural gas is very clean.
“Somebody definitely saw it coming and tried to sound the warning. In 2018/19 The city council of Round Rock committed the entire city to “alternative” energy and nearly drove all residents away with the high electricity costs.” ~ New Wind and Solar Farms are Flooding Rural Texas (texaspolicy.com)
20 conformed dead (Froze to death) in Galveston county of as of 4 PM CST. And they just started looking.
I’m not seeing this on any news sites.
Would be interesting to know the situations that nailed these people.
Better part of two days without electricity, web service, cellular service here northof Austin. Soo neighbors … how’s that electric car and bitcoin account looking now?
How about those tech jobs that have been relocated to the Austin area, in part because of the reliable and abundant electric power?
What happens to those huge servers when the power goes down?
Just spoke with my daughter in Pflugerville. Water pressure is low and they are being told to boil water. That is a little difficult when there is no electricity. They have been in the car off and on all day to keep the little boys, 8 months and 2 years, warm. I told her to fill bathtub with as much water as possible so that they are able to flush toilets.
My son-in-law tried to get supplies from HEB, Target, and a pharmacy but was not successful. Why is the National Guard not being used to help people in need, especially for water? I believe the governor may be facing some severe flak!
Will be thinking of your family. Please keep us updated. So difficult with an 8-month old! This is why you want to live next door to some Amish….the Amish in Kentucky the eally came through for their neighbors during a 3-week ice storm a decade or so ago…
The nation guard is on an emergency mission to protect biden from the 82,000,000 million Americans who elected him. They don’t have time to deal with such trivial things as water for the plebs. ?
And the Texas governor is too sold out to refuse to send the guard to DC.
Has he declared an emergency?
Abbott and Biden have both declared emergencies in Texas.
Not so sure about DC. The Texas National Guardsmen were called back from DC when that fiasco about putting them in a parking garage as their rest area was found out.
The governor and the whole bunch of bureaucrats deserve to face more than flak. They have led a prosperous state into near failure with their incompetent actions. Anyone not braindead knows that wind turbines are only built because they are subsidized with your tax money. The technology is extremely dirty and the turbines have a very short life. Once again fast talking politicians have spread death and destruction while they pocket large sums of money.
And most importantly, that money could have been spent on infrastructure.
He got a lot of pocket money for those purchases. They all do.
That would be our boy Rick Perry.
The NG is around the US Capitol building
Not the Texas NG. Abbot recalled them.
And they have been called out to help with this weather issue. I don’t know where they are, but he has activated them.
I am just south east of Houston. We are being told to boil water as well. I personally have power, but siblings in other cities around the state either don’t have power or water. One sister is filling buckets with snow to fill toilets.
I always keep used 2-liter bottles filled with water in my freezers. Normally, I do this for hurricane season, but it works for this as well. We will thaw out one bottle at a time.
My niece is in Austin. She told me that it is 40 degrees in her living room. I would be very concerned if I had young children in that situation, I will keep your family in my prayers.
And when the power’s out, it’s out for your cell towers also.
True. The cell towers have generators but the LPG only last a few hours. That is if the unmaintained generators start in the severe cold
I have a friend in Plano next to Dallas, out since Sunday night. Family in Houston just came on today. It’s all over and it is a mess.
Move all solar and wind power to democrat cities. One freeze and they’ll abandon ‘feel good’ and demand to go back to what works.
GOOD NEWS, COVID new cases in TX zero, but COVID deaths spike – they died from the cold….but with covid! (Sarc)
You say it sarcastically while tomorrow it will be reality.
It seems that California voters escaping their polices by just moving to Texas can’t get break.
You mean the extra demand on our infrastructure from the transplants?
That’s because they bring their stupid policies with them.
Power came on after two days of nada in Dallas County. 44 degrees on the first floor of our house…47 on the bedroom floor (probably sounds elitist to the left). hotels in all of Dallas are full and my wife and i slept in my son’s boy scout sleeping bags that haven’t been used in over 10 years.
Power grid operator came on prior to the shutdown and said that “rolling blackouts” were going to be a problem and if so, they would only last between 10 minutes to 45 minutes. 48 hours later…am I living in Texas or California? My ire is directed at Governor Abbott, with his nonsensical approach to power blackouts and his lame leftist fear of Covid.
Adios Governor Abbott…lots of early progress, yet when the rubber meets the road you are a total failure in leadership…by the way a leader is one who leads…not one who puts his finger in the air to see which way the political winds blow.
Abbott has failed us over and over. He loves keeping his democrat friends happy. When i volunteered at the RinoParty headquarters they were clueless about who to replace greg and cornyn with. We are doomed.
These are perry policies.
You know, the agency he couldn’t remember.
Before that austin made him do the “all of the above” bullsh*t.
Then the fed comes and pushes and subsidized this madness!
When we #TEXIT some of these people need to be on the “other” side of our fence.
I agree with your comment. IMO we could drive down the street and pick anyone and they would be better than Abbott and Cornyn.
You are lucky you have him. Anyone else and you wouldn’t have power for a month!
So sorry to hear this!! We were without power for 5 days after Hurricane Frances and it was incredibly hot (Florida) but when you’re cold and there’s no way to warm up….awful!!!
Isn’t Austin the wacky liberal part of Texas?
One of them.
You won’t see this on the “news” …

or this …
https://electroverse.net/record-smashing-snow-and-ice-storms-leave-5-million-americans-without-power-and-counting/
Those are the websites, like CTH, where you will find the real news. And the wonderful thing about the climate is they are going to have a lot harder time hiding and fudging the data (although they try mightily) than the Intelligence Community.
Climate was my bailiwick, before I found Sundance… so, when I read Sundance’s first post, on the Mueller Investigation, I was like: “Ah! Here is another thing they are not telling the truth about.”
This is really interesting reading and makes sense. For a while I’ve been also reading about the Solar Minimum and its impact on earth’s weather. We had quite a cold spell last week and looking at a map last week, the cold air dipping down (as pushed by jet stream) grazed us. But my goodness – with wind chill, it was -15 degrees some nights. Very, very cold. Our pipes also froze in parts of our house but we get frigid, cold weather up here in the north, which isn’t fun. We layer up. One issue I’m wondering about is if those that have cattle/livestock, did they have water feeder heaters? They are a must up north, here. My heart is heavy for them as they are dealing with very, deep cold temps. One question I have is could not this have been forecast or a trend seen some days out of very cold weather on the horizon? Weather forecasts are usually predicted/forecast some days out so wasn’t anything seen coming that would mean really cold weather?
The polar vortex forecast has been out for well over a week. The least Abbott should have done was checked with power companies to make sure they had procured enough power and were ready. This weather was not a surprise, but too many people sleeping at the wheel is.
I called my sister weeks ago to tell her the vortex was coming, she isn’t the best of preppers, to her she needed to have extra on hand. It really is embarrassing that the powers that be weren’t more in tune, but then again, maybe they were paid off to be out of touch.
Weather reports were not so bad at first but continually deteriorated as time passed.
Our cows are outside and drink from stock ponds. It was six below this morning and the ice was two to three inches thick. We have to keep the ice broken for the cows to drink. I bedded my cattle down behind wind breaks last night with junk hay bales. They did just fine. Freezing rain a few nights before was not so good.
Farmer’s Almanac predicted most of this weather. I find they are more reliable than the weatherman.
Yes – I read them also and agree they are better at weather predictions.
Love that rant!
Every death in Texas over the last 2 days whether by exposure, suicide, natural, or violence should be blamed on the green new deal politics of the Democrats.. People died in Texas during the ice storm.
I wonder what Cuomo has to say about deaths in Texas? You could have a worse Governor. Say Kemp in Georgia who sold my vote to biden.
Oregon is well on its way. Our policies will shut down numerous coal plants and hydro dams. For the children or the snails, or dirt bugs, or something,
But I’m actually shocked that TX is going through this.
Admittedly, I don’t keep up with TX energy policy.
It looks like the green insanity has found its way to TX, too.
Yes the green insanity has invaded Texas. We back down nuclear plants to let the wind turbines run. Then spend millions to connect them to the grid only to have them fail constantly. Most of their failures have been covered up.
2005 Renewable Energy Bill Texas Legislature.
Gov Goodhair.
It’s all about your carbon foot print.
And that includes your gravesite.
The Californiacation of Texas…
It’s all a lie clean green wind energy is killing many and that’s just half of the story. Texas gets almost 20% of it’s energy from wind turbines and over 50% failed causing the whole Texas electrical to lose 12.5% or 12,500 MW/h of power to flow into the grid. Why? State of Texas failed to make new energy providers equip the wind turbines with anti-freeze technology, like deicing a jet and the state closed several fossil fuel plants recently. Could you imagine if this artic blast hit five years from now or 10 and we were at 75% wind & solar and 25% fossil.
Now the other half of the story. Just in Houston close to 1.5 million residential & commercial buildings are without power, water and sewage (3-5 million People) Oh they say we got 200,000 back up with utilities but 400,000 went down. The whole infrastructure is failing and lots of people are dying over 50 from carbon monoxide last night 2/15 alone. Over 45% of Houston is without power, water or sewage and Galveston is at 90%. Water treatment facilities are failing, boiling water mandates, if you have water and pipes are bursting everywhere.
We still have two more days of below freezing temperatures until Friday. Go to KPRC channel two NBC Houston to get the facts, In fact, 4 out of the 5 Anchors today 2/16 are without power, and reporting on this total disaster, that could’ve been avoided. By the way, all the c-19 protocols have gone by the wayside. For we know God causes all things to work for His good especially to those who love Him.
Texas, why the H#LL did you allow government to roll you with wind.
They are only free to the developer, the taxpayer and rate payer are screwed.
Oh, you need real fossil fuel energy plants for when the wind doesn’t blow.
So in reality you pay double.
Plus industrial wind destroy property values of neighbors who just want to live at peace in a country setting…
Kill raptors by the tens of thousands, bats that eat bugs are killed too.
Build a Nuclear plant, never have a problem ever again.
We have 3, I believe within driving distance, in northern SC. It is awesome.
Some nuclear plants went down as well along with some natural gas.
A modern Nuclear Aircraft Carrier carries 5000 sailors and three mini-nuclear reactors. THe powerplant can energize a city of 250,000.00, yet Jane Fonda and “the China Syndrome” has spooked all of America to well built nuclear power.
Did you hear me? A carrier sliding over the ocean blue can power a city, and last without refueling, for 20 years. Well, Duh.
That is why the Navy has nuclear submarines too.
Haven’t had any problems with power and water here in West San Antonio.
We’re lucky because we’re on the same part of the grid that serves all of these massive data server farms around here.
Not going to shut them down.
God bless all those suffering.
Lucky you. North side out for 36 hrs to help y’all.
Stay safe!?
Friend in NW San Antonio has been out for 2 days.
My sister has been out for days. Power came on this afternoon, but she still doesn’t have water. Just north of San Antonio.
I cannot accept this happening in America..Let alone Texas…”Green” Insanity…
To quote my daughter “Fun fact- 70.4% of the US is covered in ice or snow at the moment, with an average depth of 5.04 inches. Currently solar panels are covered in ice and most wind mills are frozen rendering them all useless .
Wanna Guess what isn’t useless? Wanna guess what’s keeping your ass warm this very second? Wanna guess what’s keeping your children warm and safe in all this weather?
Coal , Oil, natural gas, nuclear, pipelines etc .
Wanna freeze to death ? Go ahead with the Green new deal .”
I know this isn’t much, and I can not even imagine how people are managing, but we use oil hurricane (the glass shades get hot) lamps to reduce the cold in the house and our heat doesn’t kick on as much.
Irony of ironies: Just last week the talking heads on the news were lamenting that (get this) a lack of driving due to the Kungflu–so, lower CO2 emissions–was making us have a warmer winter. And now here we are, waiting for the sixth (yes, that’s right, SIXTH) snow and ice storm in Texas within the last month.
So, which is it, CO2 causes global cooling or warming . . . err . . . change? Or a lack of CO2 causes global cooling or warming whatever? Clearly, every weather change under the sun (ahem) is now attributed to human causes; therefore, we should all just go off ourselves to save the planet. But don’t pay any attention to how these current “facts” completely contradict the “facts” previously spouted. Logic is strictly forbidden!
Witchcraft. Weather is ‘cooked’ by witches. Preachers were hung for witchcraft in Colonial America, circa 1690 just by being accused of witchcraft by ‘someone of higher status’.
They don’t know because they can’t “think out of their talking heads. ” If it isn’t scripted onto a teleprompter, THEY DON’T KNOW.
Unuseful robots…that is today’s journalism.
We are not going to have to off ourselves to save the planet. They are killing us right and left right now.
The ranchers and farmers of the 1800’s knew windmills didn’t work well in snow and ice when they were only pumping water for cows! Our University Einstein’s, ignoring factual history, figured out Chinese made windmills for electricity was good to go, so long as they didn’t have to pay. Stupid is as stupid does!
This is true. My mother said her grandparents used windmills to water the farm animals except in the winter because they froze.
But not nearly as stupid as it sounds. The people in those power positions got rich over these programs.
ENOUGH WITH THE RENEWABLES & ENOUGH WITH THE SUBSIDIES!!!
While I can have empathy with my kin in Texas, my gut is filled with disgust as well.
Here in high altitude Colorado, my furnace pooped out in late November. (had open oven and gas fireplace on until replacement). The indigestion is in Uncle Joe looking for votes-by-tax funded-benevolence in declaring a national weather emergency.
Texans are tough people. There is enough lumber (or cow pies) to burn until Spring, and Joe need not spend my grandchildren’s money on what we call “Winter” up here in the thin air. Sheesh!
That is kind of mean. You are making a joke out of people freezing to death en mass.
You better get ready! This has been happening on the east coast for years, and in CA also. When the green weenie deal kicks in you will be murdering more unsuspecting people with energy outages of several different kinds. ie. electricity, water, gasoline, diesel, etc. The energy will NOT be replaced. Wind, solar, and green energy will NOT keep up and won’t ever keep up for decades! People in the north country where it really gets cold will die. We just got done with 2 weeks of -20 below zero! Green energy will go the same way as it did in TX. FAIL!
If I go hunting and mistakenly shoot an eagle, hawk, duck, goose, starling or any one of a dozen protected species of birds a US Fish and Wildlife Officer would arrest me and the US Attorney’s Office would prosecute me. I could spend a year in federal prison (Rightly so!!!). On the other hand these giant wind generators kill millions of birds each year many of them bald eagles and other protected species and it’s perfectly legal! Why? Wouldn’t any required environmental impact analysis easily determine the extent of the carnage to wildlife? Why are these Green Nazis exempt from the most basic federal and state environmental laws they force on everyone else!
They are the ruling class and the birds don’t matter.
BLM – Birds Lives Matter.
Dollars$$
starlings, really ?!? crappiest little bird I ever saw in Houston.
By the literal millions
They are also non-native. I despise them.
Two years ago, at right about this same time, in the middle of a cold winter, we were receiving a month and a half of NO ELECTRICITY BILLS because of refunds our electricty company owed us due to costs going down THANKS to President TRUMP’s new tax plans.
A couple of nice nuclear power plants–problem solved.
Even natural gas plants at a tenth the cost of nuclear and very clean!
Even Bill Gates – yes the let’s eat fake meat Bill gates is in favor of nuclear. Article out over the weekend had him saying because solar and wind cannot be stored/transferred – nuclear needs to be a component of clean energy. My god, only 50 years late!
Bill Gates needs to take up golf or fishing and leave us all alone.
Never should natural gas become the main energy source for primary electricity generation. This should be used for homes and businesses for their heating/cooking needs…and for secondary, small generating usage only. Use coal instead for generating purposes – far easier to make good on clean air (easy to do these days) with a point source for whichever emissions you wish to target.
And for those responsible for ignoring base load requirements, they need to be put in stocks. There’s zero excuse for this to happen.
These people are freezing to death in all electric houses. Houses should be required to heat with natural gas or propane. More efficient and relieves the stress on the electric grid.
Coal-fired power plants run 24/7. The lignite that was being strip mined here had such a high dirt content that the company had to mix it with coal brought in by rail from Powder River.
Natural gas plants can be turned on and off to cover demand above the coal generating plant’s capacity. A nat gas generator is mostly an overgrown jet engine. Nat gas is clean and efficient and lends flexibility.
As a former Texan, I know you guys will persevere… ?
Hang tough & may the warmth soon return!
Double meat, double cheese, mayo all the way with jalapenos.
And 6 pak of Shiner Bock.
Joe Bastardi has been warning Texas and other states that this serious cold weather was coming for about two weeks.
You should listen to him. He is right about the media and the UN and the Government(s) using weather as weapon to destroy.
His strike zone was a little east of Texas yesterday. Surprising, but he WAS ringing the alarm bell.
How long will it take the idiots that believe the solar/wind debacle is to provide energy to them? Elites yes, everyone else, who of importance cares?
Meanwhile, Obama and John Kerry just bought beachfront homes on the ocean at Martha’s Vinyard for $13 million each. Bill Gates just spent $40 million for a beachfront homes a hundred yards from the Pacific Ocean and even Joe Biden bought a beachfront home in Redondo Beach DE for $4 million ALL AFTER THE NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE REPORTED THAT THE ENTIRE EAST COAST OF THE UNITED STATES would be underwater in a few years and New York City was building dykes around Manhattan to keep the ocean out. The climate change fraud is beyond blatant but nobody ever calls it out. Why???
WHY: Here’s why; those promoting the fraud benefit from it and this allows them to pay for all their mansions.
Just talked to a friend in SanAntonio, South of Austin. Still no power..2 days now. 41° in the house WITH THE FIREPLACE GOING. They are grilling hotdogs to feed the neighbors.
No one was prepared to have to use survival skills. 2 days with no power and no promise it will be back on for a few more days.
Another storm approaching now.
Well, there are some skills some folks need to start working on! There are many in TX that prepped and were prepared, just fyi.
Worth a read:
The real story of Texas’s electrical grid collapse…
https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1361734258629353473.html
Since we’re talking about power outages, windmills, and solar panels, I wanted to post this. Everyone needs to read the following articles and send them around the world! Nobody knows this!!! No one even THINKS ABOUT THIS!
https://energycentral.com/news/retiring-worn-out-wind-turbines-could-cost-billions-nobody-has
https://www.americanexperiment.org/2019/10/it-costs-532000-to-decommission-a-single-wind-turbine/
You can find a fount of information on this topic! Anybody who thinks that inefficient windmills are “green,” CAN NOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!!! Defunct companies will never pay what it costs to deal with old windmills, which will fall apart and become an even uglier blight on our environment —- OR, they can dig up the entire country burying these dinosaurs at taxpayer expense!!!
Oh, I beg to differ about the “no one even THINKS ABOUT THIS” part of your post. Believe me, every time I see a new wind farm rearing its ugly head, I comment about how much worse the view will be when all those wind turbines are defunct and nobody wants to do a damn thing to get rid of them! Old, ugly, useless eye-sores, testaments to a silly pipe dream, will permanently mar the landscape here in Texas.
AlleyCat, I’ll bet you and the other commenters here are greatly in the minority! I never cease to be amazed at the intelligence and common sense possessed and demonstrated by the people at The Conservative Treehouse! I still recall Jay Leno’s “Jay Walking” segments, where people didn’t know the most basic of things like how many suns there are in our solar system.
Its bad. But unlike a hurricaine, the aftermath will be short.
The irony is that demand is low; during winter months, demand is at the low point. It is summer time when demand peaks.
Texas is not part of the national grid. We are an independent electric grid. I bet many will call for regulation. A big mistake.
Deregulation (14 years ago) was a boon to residential customers. Rates are cheap in Texas.
I live in TX and the idiot news people keep saying there was some huge demand for electricity. It’s a supply problem driven by plant closures. I’m unsure if they’re all due to weather or some for maintenance. The answers will come when plants resume producing electricity.
Yep. Coal and nuclear. Obama took 4 nuke plants off the permit list and gave Boone Pickens tens if million for wind power. I don’t blame Boone, he wanted money diverted to natural gas cars and such. But Obama was convinced Green was the way to go.
Spit.
T Boone knew that water rights were the next frontier. Under this shitshow administration it is unavoidable.
Our power hasn’t gone out . . . . yet . . . . this time, but it’s been out for several days in the town just down the road from us. I for one am thankful for my alternative down blanket. I also have a corduroy quilt with a flannel lining that my grandmother made. Both can ONLY be used in 45-50 degree weather (or colder); otherwise, you wake up in a pool of sweat!!
Windy City Is One Cruel Place and Caused Us to Lose Our Minds:

Maybe I missed this, but where is FEMA? BuyDem is probably asleep, no one will. wake him up. In another week we will be hearing reports of many dead people (we are already)…If Trump was President it would all be blamed on him and the media would say it was his “Katrina.” But of course, no blame to BuyDem.
I have felt for a long time all of this fraud climate baloney was dangerous and would kill people and now it is happening. I hope the public will use this for the good and shutdown most of this “clean energy” hullabaloo. We only have all of this due to subsidies and no more power plants get built? Who is benefitting from all of this? What happens when the solar panels and wind farms no longer are producing? We are seeing it.
We have to put an end to this nonsense now! It is dangerous and deadly!
If President Trump was still in the WH, he’d be all over this; instead, we have pictures of joebama playing video games while people literally freeze to death or die from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in Texas. The people responsible for installling the current resident of the the WH have blood on their hands imo.
I’ve been looking at this for a couple of days. The thing is that all our media concentrates on the impacts in the U.S.
If you go to windy.com, select temperatures and zoom out all the way to the world, this is a worldwide event! Europe, Russia, China, everyone is in it. The zealots will ignore it, the media will not report it, the believers will blame it on “climate change”. Nevertheless, Globull warming as they preached it is now over!
Even sunny Greece got snow.
Greg Abbott should be recalled, he is clearly a Faux Republican. I bet that jerk had heat and power.
My in laws spent about 50k to install geothermal heating in their 4000ftsq home.
My wife and I did the math.
My in-laws will be long dead by the time that investment pays off.
Meanwhile, if it gets too cold they have to turn on their furnace,
At least my kids will enjoy the savings.
It IS for the children, after all.
I met with the President of Mobil in NOLA 1981 and he told me we would be out of oil in 12 years.
I read on #WUWT this same circus happened with rolling blackouts Feb 2 2011 10 years ago.
Nobody is in charge of solutions. Exxon lobbied against coal to boost gas prices and consumption.
GE made big money selling gas turbines for back up power. There are so many factors here but the bottom line is alternative energy fails and Texas was not ready.
GE wind is the old Enron Wind. Enron gas is Buffett.
Gas 3.35 now
Enron oil is EOG. Resources
price of natural gas went from 5.58 to 18.48 within a month how many years ago?
The fans? They shut down somewhere below zero degrees or high wind or when ice loaded and they go out of balance like your warshing machine.
I didn’t know it could freeze.
It is water in the pipelines freezing, not the gas.
We make soap stick launchers for removing formation water from gas wells. But some water accumulates in the pipeline leading away from the wellhead. Many pipelines (2” line pipe) lay on the ground for accessibility reasons. At a low spot crossing a gully, produced water can freeze and plug off.
Our deluxe model 9P has a temperature lockout that pauses the stick drop during cold weather. That feature is used effectively in Oklahoma. In south Texas, it is not so necessary and Operators in the Rockies and Alaska know how to do cold.
The problems they are experiencing with the freezing of NG pipelines, is warmer climates such as Texas, they don’t guard against water accumulation like they should. That is what is freezing in the pipelines, not the gas. In colder climates they do a much better job of keeping the water out.
Texans are a tough lot, they will survive. This is just a sign of things to come, all I know is I feel very unsafe w/out POTUS45 at the helm. And I HATE those windmills, I curse those that have gotten their way by using them as a source of energy.
Stacey Abrams and Lauren Groh-Wargo: How to Turn Your Red State Blue
It may take 10 years. Do it anyway.
https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/11/opinion/stacey-abrams-georgia-election.html?
NYT is giving instructions on Voter Fraud now?
Exactly.
Winning elections by flooding the country with “demographic change in the sun belt states.” And no oversight when counting votes just goes without saying. Did any of those people that fed ballots from suitcases through machines multiple times ever get questioned or charged with a crime? Nah, didn’t think so. FIB is too busy hunting down people who took selfies at the capital.
