No way. The Electoral College is working as design. We are a country composed of sovereign stated (10th Amendment). The Founders didn’t want one state dominating the entire nation. Currently, we are in a very peculiar situation in which CA is both the most populous state and the most partisan state in the country as of 2016 elections. This state alone practically accounted for the popular vote deficit Trump had with Hillary Clinton in 2016. How did CA arrive at this point is due to many factors, but primarily due to the big influx of illegal immigrants into the state and the power of Silicon Valley (Big Tech), which has resulted in the Bay Area being ground zero for CA politics (Newsome is from San Fran) and now national politics with Pelosi as Speaker and Kamala as president in waiting (both from San Fran) should Biden pull this off.
The Dems have been captured by the politics of one state at the exclusion of everyone else. Thankfully, the Electoral College ensures states in the Midwest, less polarizing states like FL and TX, and smaller states such as Utah, NV, NH, etc, all have a say in who becomes the president of the United States. Without the EC, everything would be geared towards CA primarily because they would always be the tipping point state.
Maybe going with an updated version of the EC would make CA less polarizing, but why haven’t the GOP made TX more polarizing to the Right to balance out CA? There’s no major large GOP state that is as polarizing as the large liberal states of CA, NY, and IL.
I think we need a system that retains the importance of small states having a say and rewarding the most say to less polarizing states.
At the same time, electoral votes themselves must be properly allocated to better reflect population. Maybe base electoral college allocations on the turnout from last election rather than the census? This would incentivize voting, but I would only be in favor if there is voter ids and set election dates and deadlines for the vote count to come in. Absent those updates, I say retain the Electoral College.
Why not just leave it alone. It’s working fine.

Ground Report from Tucson, 309 PM local. Hubby and I voted early, took the mail in ballots down to the county recorder the 2nd day of early voting. This in itself was a departure, since we had NOT requested mail in ballots. I never do, because 3 election cycles ago when I went to vote in person, they told me I had already voted by mail. I voted provisional, demanded an investigation, and the signature on the mail in envelop was nothing like mine. Oh, well. Just typical leftist voter fraud.
So, this time, requested an investigation because I had checked the website and with the state in mid July before we left town for a few months, and they told me then we were NOT mail in voters. Well, they called a few days after we voted, and claimed that we had filled out special election materials in early July, and CHECKED OFF MAIL IN VOTING. WE HAD NOT. We DID get those things, and we turned them in IN PERSON. What else is new. Same crap, different election cycle.
Hubby drove by our usual polling place a little while ago, he said the line was much longer than is the norm. I hope it is in our favor, but Tucson is a leftist hellhole these days so not confident. We are planning to move the heck out of this state in the new year anyway.

Well Husband and I just got back from voting. Live on the coast in Alabama. Year round residents # about 7000. Lines are quadruple that of 2016. Had hip replacement surgery so brought chair and cane to take a load off. As we were standing in line… Lady passed by and said you all can go to the front of the line. Come to find out they had a sign posted… those who who were either disabled or over 70 go to front of the line. I told my Husband I know why I got to go but they must think you are over 70.. he’s 63….needless to say he didn’t think that was too funny. Even though Alabama will 100% go for PT …it’s like people here want to make sure he has the popular vote. To the guy in Florida who said they don’t like red tides but love red waves….well in Alabama we love both 🙂

Having lived in NYC for decades, this tells me that the Democrat vote has been used up, with the remaining people left in the city.
Not sure what the percentage is of those who are no longer living in the city or voting on Election Day, but it looks sizeable from 2016. Especially even if just the enthusiasm to vote.

This morning my wife and I went to vote at 0530 for a 0600 opening. At the opening at 0600, there was a line of 97 people. Approximately twelve hours later at 1710 I drove by to see the wait status. THERE WAS NO LINE AT ALL, IT WAS A GHOST TOWN. What could that mean? This is the belly of the Blue Beast right outside DC. The turnout for Fairfax County in 2016 for Hillary Clinton was 87%. Fairfax County just announced that the current turnout is 67%. There appears to be no enthusiasm for Sleepy Joe. If the other Red areas of Virginia come out in force and overcome the dense Blue areas, I think there is a slight chance Virginia could flip this year and hopefully Mark Warner gets replaced by Daniel Gade.
Look for Virginia to be a potential surprise story tonight.

As a follow up to my earlier account of things going smoothly when I voted here in very blue Tucson. Something did bother me.
Usually we have hand ballots that you bubble in for whom you choose and then slide them into this electronic machine that gobbles them up and I always thought kept track of them, although I don’t know.
Today there was only a steel box to drop them in. Without a chain of custody with both parties involved, I found it a bit sketchy. But I’m a paranoid type.

Voted earlier today in rural northern Bucks County, voted about 8:30 am – was number 84. 2016 total vote count was around 450. Area leans red. Usually in and out; had to wait about 10 minutes this time. Guessing turnout should beat 2016, or come close, even with mail-in accounted for.

If they can hold off the SoS’s from declaring a victor, they can get into court and start suing. The mob action tomorrow is designed to facilitate these lack of declarations.

Pretty slow day at the polls – we are in a blue district in suburban Raleigh, NC (Cary). We vote in the morning and are usually in the #250-#300 range. Today we were voters #97 and #98 at our precinct. Early vote turnout seemed pretty high in our area and this appeared to validate that. NC Board of Elections and crew have moved Election night ops from their offices to the State Emergency Operations Facility. Not sure the significance of that. . .
Voted in the suburbs of Austin. It was quiet. In and out the doors in five minutes. The church’s volunteers were hanging out quietly with snacks. I’ve waited an hour in the past.

My father in law voted today in Moon Township, PA and he was able to walk right in and vote, no wait. We voted last week here in East Orlando, FL and had to wait two hours to vote.

I voted early this a.m. here in Central Texas. Waited about an hour and then walked right in and voted without waiting a second. A little surprised though almost everyone I know voted early. It is a shame in my opinion that early voting has become set in stone.
I think Election Day should be a Holiday; Everyone but the infirmed should vote in person; on a Paper Ballot with a thumbprint.
Anyway, Trump won Texas by ~800,000 votes in 2016 in Texas. It will be more this time; though Harris County will be late tallying and will be rife with Fraud. I actually expect some convictions a year or so down the line. Evil people around there.

I just watched the Bannon war room broadcast from earlier today (on you tube) and thought it was good. I like Peoples Pundit, Richard Baris, and he will be doing some analysis with them tonight. They will be streaming coverage starting at 7:00.
I am not a fan of Bannon, but I think he has a good handle on the populist angle of this election. But I fast forwarded to Baris, who was 30 minutes in because they are also doing a lot of coverage of the terrorism in Europe and I think the Hunter laptop from hell, (which I am not interested in hearing about today anyway).
