While it might seem frustrating to see republicans and conservatives demanding that President Trump stop talking about the greatest act of sedition and usurpation, within our Constitutional Republic in the history of our nation, this espousal by Andrew McCarthy is factually a very wide-spread opinion within the DC beltway:

I have shared by own thoughts on this matter several times; and despite knowing this issue may not/will not drive the 2020 election; in my own contemplation I keep coming back to this central question: How can this be ignored?…
… How does the office of a U.S. president; and more importantly the republic itself; survive a coordinated coup effort involving all three branches of government; while simultaneously those in charge of exposing the corruption fear the scale is too damaging for them to reveal?

The title of this piece says it all. “The Beltway Republicans….” Of course they want him to drop it. This sudden vocal narrative by beltway conservatives doesn’t pass the smell test. They are in on it.
Almost 50% of the country still believes the President colluded with Russia. Damn right the President needs to push the truth. And the country needs to know what really happened and justice needs to be served or it will happen again.
True conservatives don’t choose to live inside the DC Capitol Beltway. The very few that do are an aberration. Look at the 2016 election results for DC along with the counties in MD and NoVA that I-495 (the DC beltway) runs through. Just about solid blue.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why Trump hasn’t just scheduled a press conference or an address to the American People and just walk the country thru it all. Media won’t report it, so, he needs to get into his bully pulpit and lay it out with the memos all blown up, like Sundance does, so everyone can read them. And he needs to be level headed and not over talk himself. Just lay it out, succinctly. Out better yet, have Sydney Powell lay it out. And he can stand right next to her and tell the world what most of us already know.
Just do it, Mr President. Nobody else is going to do this but you.
Regrettably in my view, the coup/Russia-gate is not an election issue with most folks. It is essential for the survival of our country, but POTUS needs to get reelected first and then drop the hammer.
An example in Virginia, Daniel Glade who is opposing Mark Warner for Senate is not using the coup/Russia-gate at all.
While we believe justice has not been equally applied, people are numb to this issue.

Those of us who “know”, we who have been following and investing our time in this discussion on CTH for 3.5 years…we KNOW.
But the reality, the hard truth…is that the average American voter knows little or nothing about what happened. It is simply too complicated, for the Average Joe to to understand.
Spygate/Obamagate/Russiagate… whatever we want to call it. This issue has simply NOT captured the attention of the electorate, the voting public. This is not a significant issue in this election. It is a distraction, at best.
The Trump Team needs to drop “Spygate”, and focus on other issues.

If POTUS wants to turn the china shop into glass slivers and pop McCarthy’s trial balloon, he has got to declassify everything concerning russiarussia and hrc’s ops, and he’s got to do it himself; it’s apparent that his “subordinates” aren’t willing to.
He also needs to do this, like tomorrow or even overnight. People need time to try to absorb some of this information before Nov 3.

The other day, at VP Pence’s rally in LV, an older woman told me that she has learned that the United States – primarily politicians, FBI/DOJ, Deep State et al – is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. So what the heck happened Mr. President by taking their advice and staying away from it. It got swept under the rug which is what exactly they wanted.
PTrump being surprised by the Barr announcement was really a disappointment to me. It indicated that he is not as attuned to this as I may have thought and has no idea what’s going on with Barr and Durham. I think Rush was also surprised by PTrump’s response as to not knowing.
It makes you wonder if he get daily briefings.
Will they get away with it? If they can do this to the President of the USA, no one is safe. Is this how they win their cases? Fabricate evidence to obtain search warrants fraudulently? Searches by “contractors”? If they get away with this breaking these laws, then the legitimacy of law enforcement is in question. These lawbreakers, notoriously and openly, have undermined our faith in the DOJ and the FBI and even the little faith we had in the CIA. I think many of the commentators have friends and associates who will be affected by a prosecution. Their reputations will be smeared by the actions of officials at the highest level. There is probable cause to indict and prosecute, is there not? I am outraged that there is even discussion of burying this.

The President has sacrificed more than anyone can imagine, and to walk away half-finished from his endeavors is not in his nature and not in the best interests of this beloved republic of ours. There can be no compromise in this: the guilty must be brought to justice. There is no MAGA without justice equally meted, no matter rank or status.

The reason beltway Republicans want Trump to drop Ofraudgate (etc.) is that many of them are involved. Most weren’t co-planners but were supporters and/or looked the other way either because they were blackmailed or from personal dislike of the man.
McConnell is up to his ears. You can watch his actions from day to day and without knowing any specifics be sure that he’s mega-dirty.
If this thing could be made to just go away, everybody keeps her/his ill-gotten gains, but no more attacks there’s be something to think about: Maybe America SHOULD let sleeping dogs lie. But the attacks haven’t stopped even yet, all the major players are still in the game, they are still willing to destroy America as long as they get permanent control of the rubble.
Even if Trump should win and the major players left government during his coming term, there’s always next time to think about. The best we’d be able to say is “They didn’t quite succeed in overthrowing our elected government.” So what stops the next bunch of nasty and small Democrat leaders from doing it again and NOT getting overconfident when they’re on the brink of victory?
What stops some future REPUBLICAN? Yeah, ‘morality,’ right? Don’t think so.
This MUST be exposed and the leading players punished severely enough that nobody tries it again anytime soon. If that ends Republican careers too that’s okay: Republicans involved in this are at best useless.

Trump is not always the best messenger on these things. At the rallies, he’s preaching to the choir, which is fine, but as far as the rest of the people, he has to focus on economic issues and his accomplishments. He needs to give them reasons, other than the corruption, to vote for him. They are too caught up in their daily lives to understand how deep the corruption is.
After that, he must fire Wray and Barr and bring in someone like Sidney Powell or an outside-the-beltway person as the new AG. They can determine whether Durham stays or goes based on what he’s been doing.
If I were him, I’d hold a press conference and say, while I’m focused on making America great again, I’ve assigned so and so, to audit our powerful intelligence agencies to make sure they are following the rule of law and respecting the privacy of every citizen. We don’t have a republic if we cannot trust those in charge of enforcing the rule of law and ensuring our nation’s safety if those institutions become politicized.

The people wanting Trump to drop the issue are all Republicans who were involved in the coup effort, or at a minimum were supportive towards it. So they are arguing from blatant self-interest. That’s certainly the case with Lowery and National Review.
I think we have to be realistic about what’s likely to happen and what’s possible. The coup was backed by just about everyone in DC, from both parties. That’s not a problem which belongs in the sphere of the criminal justice system, it’s one which belongs in the political sphere. So far Republican voters have declined to remove from office many of the Republicans who have supported the coup, which includes McConnell and Graham. We cannot keep supporting the plotters out of one side of our mouth while demanding that Barr arrest them out of the other.
Here’s a question I think we should be asking ourselves. Given the extraordinary hostility towards Trump (and the GOP base) exhibited by the party leaders, should we continue to support the Republican party if Trump loses the election?
