The Supreme Court has announced the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the age of 87 from complications due to metastatic cancer of the pancreas. The 2020 election is officially in hyper-drive…
SCOTUS – Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died this evening surrounded by her family at her home in Washington, D.C., due to complications of metastatic pancreas cancer. She was 87 years old.
Justice Ginsburg was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Clinton in 1993. She was the second woman appointed to the Court and served more than 27 years. She is survived by her two children: Jane Carol Ginsburg (George Spera) and James Steven Ginsburg (Patrice Michaels), four grandchildren: Paul Spera (Francesca Toich), Clara Spera (Rory Boyd), Miranda Ginsburg, Abigail Ginsburg, two step-grandchildren: Harjinder Bedi, Satinder Bedi, and one great-grandchild: Lucrezia Spera. Her husband, Martin David Ginsburg, died in 2010.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr. said of Justice Ginsburg: “Our Nation has lost a jurist of historic stature. We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague. Today we mourn, but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her — a tireless and resolute champion of justice.”
Justice Ginsburg was born in Brooklyn, New York, March 15, 1933. She married Martin D. Ginsburg in 1954. She received her B.A. from Cornell University, attended Harvard Law School, and received her LL.B. from Columbia Law School. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Edmund L. Palmieri, Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, from 1959–1961.
From 1961–1963, she was a research associate and then associate director of the Columbia Law School Project on International Procedure. She was a Professor of Law at Rutgers University School of Law from 1963–1972, and Columbia Law School from 1972–1980, and a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences in Stanford, California from 1977–1978. In 1971, she was instrumental in launching the Women’s Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union, and served as the ACLU’s General Counsel from 1973–1980, and on the National Board of Directors from 1974–1980. She was appointed a Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 1980. During her more than 40 years as a Judge and a Justice, she was served by 159 law clerks.
While on the Court, the Justice authored My Own Words (2016), a compilation of her speeches and writings.
A private interment service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. (link)
Any chance the Dem Senators from West Virginia and Alabama would vote for the nominee? Voting against would be the kiss of death for Doug Jones’s Senate career, wouldn’t it? Manchin isn’t up for re-election until 2022 but still I think there’s a chance. Assuming the election will come down to the Supreme Court, can Manchin really take the risk of ticking off Trump’s many fans in West Va?
Doug Jones will vote against as he has nothing to lose- he’s DOA on 11/3/2020. Dunno about Manchin.
Doug Jones is as good as gone already, so I highly doubt he would do anything to help PDJT. And Manchin proved who he is during shampeachment. I wouldn’t count on any help from them.
Manchin was just re elected in 2018, so he isn’t up again until 2024.
Manchin voted to impeach the President. So did Jones. What do you think?
Any dem voting for confirmation would be shot on site. It’s up to the repubs to win or lose, they will get no help.
Poor Ruthie. She was on lockdown house arrest most of the last 2 years. Outside of court, she hung out a lot with Justice Scalia.
Will this funeral ordeal be almost as extensive as George Floyd?
May she Rest In Peace. I disagreed with her ideology and her lack of neutrality as a Justice of the Supreme Court. Nonetheless, she was beautifully and wonderfully created by God and her eternity is in his hands now, and not mine to judge or to speculate.
Loralee:
The only way anyone can go to Heaven is if they repent of their sin and receive Jesus Christ as their Savior while they are alive. Once we are dead our fate is sealed. No second chance.
It seems RBG was an un repenting unbeliever and so the destination of her eternal soul is not Heaven,
Just stating a Biblical truth that you rarely hear anymore even at funerals
RIP, but I had a case in SCOTUS in 1994 and all indications were, she was dead then.
No more Kavanaughs, please. I want a rip-roaring, go-for-the-throat, rip-your-lungs-out, go-to-hell-Schumer, grab-you-by-the-balls, UNAPOLOGETIC, Trump CONSERVATIVE. Any questions?
And we don’t need another two week, four city, rolling funeral to stir up the mobs…..Ding dong, throw a bucket of water on her and be done with it!
agree
Maybe McSally can gather enough support to win her election if she stands firm through this process.
I hope this is a gift to McSally…
I have to agree with what I’m hearing on Laura tonight. This will nationalize all of the senate races, and that helps republicans like McSally. You may not have been in favor of her before, but now? Yes.
Indeed.
I’ve been reading that it will help McSally, Ernts, Sasse, and James, but most certainly doom Collins and Gardner in their liberal states, so it’s a wash. There’s also a thought that Jones may vote yes on a Trump nominee in an attempt to hold onto his Alabama seat.
At this point in our Republic we’re voting for anyone with an (R) after their name; from president all the way down to dog catcher. It’s important that we keep the White House & the Senate and rip the House away from the socialist democrats!
Yes, important to drag R’s to victory, so we can keep a boot on their necks.
Sorry to be so cynical.
Stating the truth is stating the truth – not in my assessment to be called cynicism.
The core of this is the reliance of the left on autocratic decrees from a judiciary out of control. If the left wants a result, they should have to win the votes and pass the legislation, and win over the executive agreement.
The Constitution states “We the people,” not “We the entitled lawyers who hate the deplorable peasants who presume to question our moral superiority and privilege.”
The left has been using the courts to impose on the citizens, and they are consumed by the power it provides – and thus will engage in whatever madness required to keep it. They do not wish Constitutional liberty and freedom. Thus the R’s must stand and nothing else is acceptable, and that certitude by the people gives power – “Boot on their necks.”
Yes, and the RBG’s were part of the strategy.
We will also see Bath House Barry’s blackmail operation kick into high gear; this is exactly the type of scenario his “special research project” was invented to rectify.
The past 10 years of spying on political opponents will be put to use with all its gruesome fury. But, perhaps AG Barr will finally recognize the dire, existential danger the deep state poses to our future freedom and liberty.
Go to the Hillsdale College website and listen to Barr’s speech.
Bathhouse is rumored to be in rehab (again) for one of his many addictions
It would be nice to cut the head of the snake off…
When leftist’s are cheering the death of a Trump supporter.
And no one died with a ‘boot on their neck’ that caused 20 billion in destruction of innocent people’s businesses.
Cynical about helping Uniparty candidates, getting elected, who helped put us in this mess, seems to be appropriate, in these times.
RGB, God rest her soul, was an activist judge who’s biased opinions helped us get here.
At least her mind was sounder than the Democrat running for president,
I might add, less evil than the present Speaker of the House.
“RBG’
Exactly! I don’t see how anyone thinks we have the luxury of picking and choosing which Republicans we support. There is no choice. I’d even hold down my vomit and vote for Murkowski if I lived in AK.
I have to vote for Graham, but I’ll do it.
I think you meant “hate” to… 🙂
Thom Tillis is the second worst Senator in NC.
I voted for the other one.
Richard Burr a traitor to our country.
Tillis is in Fayetteville right now with the President.
He’ll keep sucking up to him, until he is elected.
I’m so glad I don’t have to vote for Romney this year. He’s so hated in the south part of the state that I wonder if he will even run again. But it’s the north that determines outcomes due to their population. Lots of Dems will cross over to vote for him knowing a Dem is unlikely to win.
Pick all the Republicans in the upcoming election but IMHO currently the Secretary of Defense, the Attorney General and the Director of the FBI are the most important officers required TO ENFORCE the election …to assure to votes are counted correctly, quickly and without fraud while maintaining civil law and order throughout our nation….I do not trust Sec. Esper or Wray and Barr is on thin ice as well Mitch and Chief Justice Roberts…Concerned
Esper is no doubt one of the new millionaires Rush spoke of this week
Except for Romney!!!
McConnell’s statement
no need to justify it. just DO IT
Get er done, Mitch. This is a gift to President Trump.
Mitch doesn’t do anything that he knows will fail. He can get a vote on the nominee. Whether the nomination is successful is something else altogether.
OK Mitch McConnell,
Show us that you mean it. Put the Senate in recess before the election so everyone can campaign and President Trump can make a recess appointment to replaced Ginsburg, and fill the other judge positions.
If Biden wins, he can nominate someone else in 202, and the lame excuse of waiting to see who the next president for a nomination is moot. . If President Trump wins you confirm the appointment made during the recess.
I’m sooo tired of the republicans coming out talking of the problems rbg had to “overcome” in her life, therefore making her a “victim” who overcame. This was a leftist woman who was pushed to the very top to destroy our constitution by other leftists. There was nothing great about her, except how to take the “law” and twist it into a pretzel to achieve their desired leftist global outcomes. This is a great video explaining victimhood that has taken over our culture.
Why is it she never answered the question that was asked many times if she voted for PDJT ?
Mitch McConnell has already said the Senate will take a vote.
Before or after November 3?
That is a good question; our repubs better come through for
the citizens of this country or there will be civil war in the
republican party. This is their last chance before we blow
the party up if President Trump loses due to massive voter
fraud. We need a conservative judge when the voter fraud
goes before the Supreme Court later this year.
Doubtful there is enough time to schedule it. Now, if Trump, McConnell and Graham want to force the vote as a means of keeping the Senate, then it might be a gamble that pays off.
But there are three LARGE gorillas in the Senate gallery: Collins, Murkowski and Romney.
Recess appointment now!
Summer-Thanks for posting this and yes indeed the senate should vote on Ginsburg’s replacement.
RBG was an interesting and intelligent individual. However, her ideology was antithetical to our founding, and the subsequent survival of our nation. She was a political animal.
What I don’t understand (or respect) is that she clung to this revered public position when she could no longer serve us – WE, the public. It’s been obvious for a long time that she isn’t up to the job – and it’s one of the most important jobs in the USA.
Yet, RBG continued to hold a spot she couldn’t render – but out of egotism, she refused to allow the process (OUR process) to continue. She was paid highly for this, and the rest of us have paid for her in many ways.
Whether it was due to personal politics, or personal desires, RBG’s insistence to die on SCOTUS was a selfish one. Some may think of her as a great woman, but it is a shame she decided to go out as such a small person.
Hear, hear, Peoria!
She violated every other aspect of our founding and constitution, does this surprise you?
I just cannot believe she would say on her death bed about her fervent wish.. Do people really think like this when they are about to die?
I know I wouldn’t.
Can’t prove this of course, but my gut tells me it’s made up BS to play on voters emotions as a wedge to counter PDJT pushing a nomination before the election.
If you are right, and I don’t doubt you… these people are just so bizarre.
These people sh** in their own nests. Just look at Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Baltimore, New York City, etc., etc. Yes, they are bizarre.
As to Justice Ginsburg, if you don’t have anything good to say….
My thoughts exactly. Most people dying of cancer are on so much morphine to cope with the pain that they cannot and do not say anything.
Believe it. She was a partisan judge if there ever was one. Attn: Chief Justice Roberts… she came out publicly and endorsed Hillary Clinton during the 2016 Election when it was previously unheard of for a sitting justice to openly jump into politics. Chief Justice did not reprimand her for that. Note to democrat hacks: dying judges don’t get to make rules about who chooses their successors.
I heard she wanted Cardi B to take her place.
And she’ll be voting for Biden this time around. Probably twice.
Made up by DNC handlers, I expect.
Never underestimate the treacherous DemocRATS to put words in a dead persons mouth.
Words in her mouth . . . she’ll be pulling a lever for Biden too . . .
Only if you’re a political animal.
She never rendered her position faithfully. She just voted for the liberal positIon regardless of the law. Advancing age didn’t change that.
…….She even voted against breaking for home early on a Friday when the other 7 Justices had already pretty much had finished up on things earlier (and Monday was already going to be a Federal holiday anyways) and were a little full from the leftover pizza in the oak-paneled break room/ lounge and were hoping to get street unmetered parking at for the happy hour at the new craft cocktail bar near K Street before the thunderstorm hit so they could get the choice big table in the back room as the patio deck would be closed. They had gotten there too late a week before and the line was out the door and the authentic street tacos were gone by they time they got in.
“What a downer…” muttered Alito to Sotamayor who had also wanted to get home early to pack for the trip to the lake with Brett and his wife.
Clarence had remembered she did this before when he wanted to go home early at 2 PM to beat traffic and instead she insisted that the group interview some lame Stanford Law clerks he knew did not have a chance. He got stuck in the rain for 4 hours on the freeway as a big rig had jackknifed in front of him onto its side and he couldn’t skirt around it on the shoulder in his Camaro. His wife was pissed for a few days as they had dinner plans. He then acted like he had to use the restroom down the hall and sneaked down the back stairs past the smiling guard to the garage space. “What a party pooper” he muttered to himself has loosened his tie and put on Foghat on the stereo as he eased his favorite car out through the bollarded exit driveway…
I disagree with Ginsburg’s politics but I believe she voted for the law as she saw it. All of them vote through the prism of their own political/social etc. philosophy. Had she been a straight up “hack” she would not have had the respect of Scalia and Thomas-both of whom were personal friends with Ginsburg.
I hope that Pres Trump does follow through and that the senate will pass his nominee. And then, of course, the Democrats will attempt to “pack” the court.
If she would have resigned in 2015, she would have easily been replaced by a young communist. A lot of people were silently ticked off when she didn’t resign then. That’s why Kennedy resigned when he did.
Just think – we escaped AOC, the previous bartender, as
a supreme court justice….another mislabeled wise Latina.
And the biggest, best of them all – Hillary.
I agree 100% with Peoria. Additionally, even though RBG wanted to continue on the SC, she could have submitted her resignation as soon as she became aware that her diagnosis was terminal.
Her failure to resign in the last few weeks was extremely selfish and a middle finger to the nation (the people), the court, the senate and the president.
I suppose she just wanted to suck every last dollar out of her medical-leave entitlement.
She wanted to resign after Hillary won so she could let the first female President pick her successor. Had she been using good judgement she would have resigned when Obama was Prez and enjoyed the last few years of her life with family. Ego and hubris in the Washington DC bubble.
It has worked out well for us though.
Statistically, about 40% of Americans age 85 have clinical dementia. Need an upper limit on age for SCOTUS as back in 1790, the average life-expectancy was around 48; The Framers had no idea it would go up to 80 in just 200 years. Or have them do a 40 yard dash, 50 pushups, 50 sit-ups, 10 pull-ups every year after age 70.
PJ- one of your best. Thanks.
You are very polite, I admire that
Best Eulogy so far! Honest and to the point.
IMO, she was still capable of doing her job as she saw it – just vote for the liberal side of every issue.
Many are frustrated because the conservative judges don’t do the same in reverse, and sometimes vote against a conservative issue. Leaving Roberts aside, I believe that is because they are actually judging on the rule of law, and sometimes the law does not support a particular conservative issue.
I think I could predict RBG’s vote with 99 percent accuracy just by judging whether it would be good for liberals or not. And that IMO, means she was not judging by rule of law.
Will the Honorable Senator from California take a break from photo ops in forest fires to lead the assault of a nominee like she did Justice Kavanaugh? Instead of campaign trail on Malarkey Bus?
Hopefully they’ll push the nominee through committee fast enough that they can’t bork them.
Honourable or Horrible?
Didn’t Manchin say he was not running again? I actually think Man him is a basically decent guy. I think he is pro life……and his state is now red. He should vote for the nominee like he did for Kavanaugh.
He voted to impeach the President.
He was reelected in 2018 because of his Kavanagh vote. Our Attorney General was running against him and it was a dead heat until the Kavanagh vote. I was on the fence about Kavanagh until the Ballsy Ford business. I called Manchin ‘s office and said I wanted a yes vote. Unlike the Impeachment he did the right thing. He had been in the SSCI and left this year to be the ranking on energy. He actually was not bad as governor, his leadership during the incident with the trapped miners was very good. He also was very helpful to Chili when they had trapped miners. He sent the best rescue people down there.
I never get an answer about his involvement with Wolf and the leaked Carter Paige stuff. I also have wanted answers about his Impeachment vote. When I spoke with his office person about Biden’s Vicroy of Ukraine position after the Maidan, she commented about how well I knew Foreign Policy. My position is Biden is a crooked as the day is long and everybody knows it.
So it will be interesting to find out what he does. I had not heard he was not going to run again in four years. His daughter is involved in the EPPY Pen price increase fiasco and seems rather corrupt.
I expect Joe Manchin will run for WV Governor in 2024 rather than another term in the US Senate. I’m not planning to vote for him for either job.
Me neither JimWVa! I am going to hold my nose for this buffoon Justice that was forced upon us. And I am still waiting for someone in Capito’s office to tell me what lesson the President was supposed to learn from Impeachment in her opinion.
I never considered Manchin going back to Governor though. 4 years is the correct amount for him. I am anticipating this Justice guy to lock us down from covid. He is on the favorable Chinese list. Probably from that energy deal. Manchin is for it too.
I thought the same until I watched Manchin say he was a middle of the road Dem and then he voted as a far left liberal. He is a polished politician, the worst kind. His only concern was staying in power.
If manchin is not running again, he’ll most likely vote against because he’ll be setting himself up for another lucrative leftist career outside of the senate, such as a lobbyist, a Washington law firm or a consultant.
One possibility, if full court is needed for election litigation or other concerns (and no confirmation has been made) could be a recess appointment. They talked about it with Obama back in 2016.
There have been quick confirmations in the past, however. Ultimately how this unfolds will depend upon political direction Senate Republicans want to take .
Flash from the past:

Is a recess appointment to the Court an option? (UPDATED)
https://www-scotusblog-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.scotusblog.com/2016/02/is-a-recess-appointment-to-the-court-an-option/amp/?amp_js_v=a2&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQFKAGwASA%3D#aoh=16004829986750&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From%20%251%24s&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.scotusblog.com%2F2016%2F02%2Fis-a-recess-appointment-to-the-court-an-option%2F
Full court is not needed.
Depends on your definition of “need”. Needed to have 5 in the right camp
A 4-4 split on the outcome of the election would be disastrous.
I analyzed this a bit, down thread.
A 4-4 decision would leave the outcome uncertain, for a long, long, time, and that would be a disaster.
Sounds as if the Lawfare Group may have figured out away to have NANCY installed as Acting President while they continue to count the Mail In Ballots discovered in a fleet of semi trucks.
Just like the almost-landmark race-blind college admissions case from Texas that died at SCOTUS on a 4-4 tie just after Scalia had died. By default, it went back to whatever the Appeals Court decision was and now is precedent. We cannot afford any 4-4 ties via Roberts when dealing with immigration/sanctuary city cases, labor cases, admissions cases, abortion cases, union dues cases, 2A cases that are bound to come up.
One should not speak ill of the dead, therefore all I can say is that at last she’s a good communist.
AND THERE IT IS!
Pelosi: Ginsburg successor must uphold commitment to ‘equality, opportunity and justice for all’
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/517193-pelosi-ginsburg-successor-must-uphold-commitment-to-equality-opportunity-and
Interesting. Out of the hundreds of times that nanzi has mentioned the constitution to back her silly statements up, she fails to mention it during the one time when it is of the upmost importance.
The constitution is never of importance to the communists unless they can find a way to undermine it.
Pelosi has lost all credibility. Time for a hair touch up…what to do?
Too bad she doesn’t have a vote in the matter.
My family is in the funeral business. My brother says Nancy is on her third embalming. And it’s starting to show ???
That’s not embalming. That’s the work of Deep State Taxidermy in McLean, VA….
I do not celebrate her Death.
We all have to meet our maker.
I will celebrate her leaving the Court.
Possibly insensitive, but I sincerely hope her entirely extended family was not allowed to see her for even an hour for past seven months. I hope she was languishing in a windowless room with no family or friends for comfort. And I hope they’re sobbing uncontrollably now.
No special punishment, merely the same situation that so many thousands upon thousands of American families have been in due to the COVID hysteria. Countless families unable to be with their loved ones as they pass on. And on top of that all the marriages, births, family reunions that have been criminalized by ridiculous executive mandates.
RGB and her careerist cabal are not better than us.
Very harsh but undeniably true. The scamdemic has been horribly cruel and more deadly than the virus. Everyone should see this now and civil disobedience against the lockdowns and restrictions should be the norm. RBG would want it that way, whether she knew it or not.
Not to mention the millions of aborted babies she is responsible for, along with the other justices that voted the same .
So is this why Trump announced that list of twenty potential nominees last week? Maybe he had the unpublished info that she was, in fact, very near her end, and he wanted to get some reactions as a way of testing the waters.
It’s hard to tell because he also announced his list of candidates during the 2016 campaign and constantly talked about SCOTUS in rallies exactly the same he is doing now.
Maybe, but with Trump he just has that uncommon way of making the precise right move at the right time. Uncanny. A gift from God. How many times he says something and then Bam, exactly what he talked about happens.
The average ‘liberal’ justice these days is something of a fascist and the trouble is that almost all ‘liberal’ justices these days are average or below.
Today’s liberal justices (and judges) think they are smarter than the rest of us and can rule us by decree.
If Trump can’t get a nominee through and Biden wins, will he nominate Judge Sullivan to the Supreme Court ? It would explain a lot.
One thing I feel certain about during this crazy period….Snake Roberts moves even further and further to the left. It is a given.
He will feel compelled to “balance”, certainly.
OMG! Shannon Bream is grieving…prolly more than the immediate family…
This mournful Fox memorial service for RGB is more than they did for Justice Scalia, at least to my best memory…which I believe is better than Joe Hiden’s!
Never liked Shannon Bream at all from the get go.
Put a stake in it, Fox News is as dead as Ruth
I have read a lot of comments, here and from the crazies who post on Fakebook (worried about another “fascist” being added to the Court).
What I have noticed is that there is a lot of speculation about who will or will not vote to confirm – WHEN THERE HAS NOT YET BEEN A NOMINEE NAMED.
How can people state that they will or won’t vote for a candidate when they don’t even know who the candidate is?
“How can people state that they will or won’t vote for a candidate when they don’t even know who the candidate is?”
I don’t mean this in a rude way, but you must be new to politics. We left Mayberry behind a long time ago.
Fairly new: I ignored politics other than the general news until 2008 – have been reading 24/7 since then. Yes, I read all day and all night, which wouldn’t have helped that much were I not attending the University of Sundance, which is more enlightening even than law school or my law practice.
Being rude must come naturally if you are so successful at it without meaning to be.
Didn’t even attempt to answer the question.
Well I will answer. And again, didn’t mean to be rude before. However, the quaint notion of senators waiting to see who the nominee is before deciding whether to vote for him or her disappeared probably about 30 years ago.
Because Mitch has already announced it.
PDJT could nominate Garland and Demonrats would screach. TDS is a terrible illness!
“How can people state that they will or won’t vote for a candidate when they don’t even know who the candidate is?”
How…becasue these people are bad people who do not respect our Constitution. They call it politics….I call it disgusting.
Trump tweets “Hiden Biden is also hiding his Supreme Court nomination list. If he doesn’t release a list after the death of the amazing RBG, how can the voters have a choice? Won’t debate, won’t answer media, won’t release a list. Don’t be slow joe!”
Biden releases list by end of weekend. Gets names on record and new points to attack the Biden campaign i.e. fresh list of new political punching bags. Opens concrete lines of attack Biden in new way.
Trump tweet “Slow Joe Supreme list is weak on crime, rule of law, would destroy your rights to free speech, 2A, and religious liberty. You think vacant Supreme Court can handle all the election fraud cases from Obama judges on MAIL IN BALLOT FRAUD! I will nominate a STRONG justice for a FULL court SOON!”
Trump nominates and Senate must deliver.
In debate, Trump asks Biden to explain his “Biden Rule” from a few decades ago to Americanp public. Trump cuts of moderators as they try to answer for Biden.
The death of RGB has dramatically changed the landscape of the election. It is no longer Trump versus Biden per se, but Trump’s SCOTUS CANDIDATES versus BIDEN’S SCOTUS CANDIDATES and the directions of this country. The STAKES are very high.
Its communism vs. the constitution and the rule of law.
The Democrats will have a difficult time reconciling their newfound “wait until after the election” with all the pushing they did for Garland.
Likewise, the Republicans will have a difficult time reconciling their support for a nominee this year with their refusal to even consider Garland in 2016.
In the end, Trump has once again exposed the political games these people play and how the media is running interference for the left.
I say Trump should nominate a steadfast constitutionalist, without regard for their political party leaning. Someone moderate would be ideal, but this would more than likely be a right-leaning individual because the left has become so unhinged in recent decades.
Picking a hardcore conservative Republican would be a bad move in my opinion.
Nope.. needs to go scorched earth! It’s impeachment payback time !!!
And if Schiff has any say or hand it it, we will deal with Impeachment 2 during the next 4 years. Remember how we worried about the last impeachment effort ending up in the SC and concerns regarding Roberts?
“Likewise, the Republicans will have a difficult time reconciling their support for a nominee this year with their refusal to even consider Garland in 2016.”
Wrong: Democrat in the White House; Republicans in the Senate. It’s up to the Senate to consider the Democrat President’s nominee. BIDEN changed that when he was a Senator; he started(and it was agreed upon) a new ‘rule’; that in that instance, the Senate would wait until a new POTUS was elected. Check it out. This has been going on for years. Don’t fall for the Dem’s BS now.
We have a Republican POTUS and a Republican Senate. I am sure they have planned for this day since day 1 of Pres. Trump’s election, maybe even before and Mitch will get the job done, right along with President Trump.
People need to remember we are now living in Trump Time; not Obama Time or Bush Time or Hiden’s Time.
Wait and watch for the next big move.
That could have meant electoral suicide for those Senators. So, to please their base they would have had to Vote “NO” on Garland. Imagine the consequences of going back to your home state to campaign had you voted YES. (only Romney could get away with that) And lets see how many Dems that are up for re-election vote for this SCOTUS pick? (zero) It is a common sense decision. IMHO
We don’t need no stinkin’ D’s to vote for POTUS’ SCOTUS pick.
I think you misunderstood my post Anon.
https://twitter.com/drawandstrike/status/1307113490880933888
So partisan politics as usual eh?
Disappointing how short sighted people can be when they see an opportunity for “their team”.
It was always going that way. All of those supposed norms – the filibuster, not naming a justice in the waning days of a presidential term – were destined to be jettisoned. Anyone who expects the Dems to live up to some vestigial tradition is a sucker. If the roles were reversed they wouldn’t hesitate to nominate a justice and confirm him/her in 5 minutes with zero debate. It is what it is, and we’re done being honorable losers.
“they wouldn’t hesitate to nominate a justice and confirm him/her in 5 minutes with zero debate”
THAT is what Republicans need to do now, with Trump speed.
Elections have consequences.
Nineteen times between 1796 and 1968, presidents have sought to fill a Supreme Court vacancy in a presidential-election year while their party controlled the Senate. Ten of those nominations came before the election; nine of the ten were successful, the only failure being the bipartisan filibuster of the ethically challenged Abe Fortas as chief justice in 1968. -National Review
The point no one is making…Obama was a lame duck president. President Trump is not. Two important differences.
Zabadak, I’m so glad you pointed out what should be obvious to everyone in the country. The nonsense being peddled about RBG’s death bed pronouncement (wait to confirm until there’s a new POTUS) is laughable on the face of it, precisely because PDJT is not a lame duck, and all things considered, he is on target for re-election. ???
I don’t believe Ruthie made the deathbed statement that is being attributed to her, unless – see below. She was never my choice for her long held seat on SCOTUS, but she wasn’t stupid.
*It is possible that the woman was experiencing pain killer induced death bed delirium – in which case, and with a little help from her TDS, she could have said anything, no matter how outrageous.
P.S. As has been noted several times in this thread, it wasn’t her call to make. We have laws to govern our processes.
My favorite comment from way up-thread was the one about the “hand from the grave”. Even without the “hand from the grave” ruling, we are the United States of America, a nation of laws, and we have laws that govern our processes. The SCOTUS seat RBG held is now empty. We must proceed, in a rational manner, by following the Law, to confirm a new Justice.
No! No! No!
Get ready for another bashing Trump “funeral” (campaign) circus.
I repeat, we don’t need another two week, four city, rolling funeral. Throw a bucket of water on her and be done with it!
Whoever the the nominee turns out to be, request the hearing to be made through Zoom.
Sally Yates testified from her house. This should be the same.
That will prevent the left from turning the hearing into a circus. No more paid anarchists in the room screaming.
Due to Covid no one allowed in the Senate floor. Closed to the public.
Saul Alisky the hell out of these bastards.
This! As long as a single business remains shuttered in this country due to COVID, the public viewing area of the Senate chamber should be empty. In fact, clear the streets around the Capital Building to ensure no one is spreading the virus…..
I don’t remember conservatives walking around the Supreme Court building yelling thru bullhorns the day after Judge Scalia passed away. Lefties are a strange lot.
The Fox crawler says RBG was a passionate defender of women’s rights. Unborn girls who didn’t make it to the birth stage may have differed with that assessment.
Absolutely Magabear and may I add, you are a very kind, generous person to point this out about this despicable woman with legal authority to kill as many babies as she wanted or believed was fair and equitable to be killed.
I wonder what Jesus would say?
Not to mention what she had to say about our President of the United States!!!!!
The Secret Service, Capitol police, the military, and our KGB better be on high alert ? all vacations and time off cancelled. The fuse has been lit and the left is going to war.
If they do, it will turn off many independent voters.
Most people don’t like perpetual violence.
Demoncraps realized BLM terrorism didn’t really help them.
Let them keep that up…
Have not yet clicked on CNN tonight. I’d guess the RGB announcement is probably 350-point font in bold red text, taking up at least half of the 1280 x 720 screen. Probably need dual monitors to read the article ‘analysis’ properly.
I don’t know about CNN but FOX was going all out and still are…Shannon Bream was almost crying……pathetic!
The Republicans are showing a lot more class than the dems/libs tonight.
My nominee to replace RBG on the Court: William S. Stickman IV, the judge who struck down Herr Wolf’s illegal restrictions on the right to assemble! ?
A pro-liberty judge is just what need at this time. And only 41 years old, so he could have many years on the Court. ??
Y E S Magabear! Judge Stickman!
LOL, ohhhhh instructions.
And that matters…. why?
Hey Barack, elections have consequences….remember dummy?
How about following the instructions found within the constitution
Is this another Signal to your Marxists Thugs to start screaming and burning?
Neither you, traitorous Arab dummy, nor the long agonizing cancer patient who long drew a salary without being able to do her job, are in a position to leave or give “instructions”.
I’m guessing they wrote that for her after she died.
Someone tell Obama his opinion no longer matters.
Obama cannot honor or congratulate ANYONE on social media unless he is also prominently in the picture–what a narcissist.
Nominate and confirm President Trump’s choice ASAP.
The DemonRats threaten rioting and “burning it all down” NO MATTER WHAT. So how is this threat different? “This time we’ll burn it even more down – even though we’ve already threatened to burn down everything. Now it’s “everything plus”. Is that their position? F them.
That SC judge may be needed as a bulwark against their barely-hidden objective of carrying out “lawfare warfare” on the election in order to try to take it.
So we need to do what WE NEED TO DO.
If they start up (which is basically just a continuation of what they’ve been doing) – then it’s time to unshackle the patriots. If this nomination process is what they use to start open civil war – then so be it. The alternative is far, far worse.
No society relished the thought of war coming to their doorstep; but if it comes, it comes. We aren’t asking for it – but they appear to insist on bringing it. History tells us that if it’s coming for us, from them – that we need to stand up and fight back, or else.
Many of us are tired of “holding our breath” while the left threatens and carries out their seemingly never-ending campaign of violence and coercion.
I’m sorry to have to say it – but we cannot live under their tyranny – which will only get worse if we allow them to bully us that way.
Everything and anything anyone disagrees with of their “positions” will result in being “cancelled”, fired, thrown out of school or other institutions, credit shut down, blocked of the internet, threatened by mobs climbing their homes and banging their windows, shouting in their faces at restaurants, climbing atop their vehicles, lighting fires (they explicitly promise to “burn it down” where “it” is our society); and probably not long before marching their targets to cattle cars heading for “re-education camps”. Count on them make it an illegal “hate crime” to disagree with them.
It’s certainly not hyperbole to predict the above – IT’S ALREADY HAPPENING. Think it will get better if they get more power? I’d advise to think again. It will get worse – much, much worse.
If they start it – time for it to get finished, for once and for all. Those commies need to be shown the door. And it should hit their ass on their way out.
If it takes what it takes, then that is what it takes. Gloves off time.
Nominate and confirm ASAP.
Yes, but please note: to nominate someone to overturn Roe v. Wade is a bad idea. Were Roe v. Wade overturned, every future election would turn on whether the candidate is for or against abortion, and what his/her policies would otherwise be would be of no interest to voters. Everyone would lose by such a narrow focus. And, furthermore, Republicans would never ever win another election.
Bullshit.
Party of arson.
I match your Bullshit and raise you one Bullshit…
Ooof. Is that you Steve Schmidt?
I have heard that BS for 30 years. Gutless wonders like you are the reason for millions dead by abortion since Reagan.
Partial birth abortion and selling parts from aborted babies are just not enough reasons because some Republican might lose an election?
Every election is already about abortion and guns at a major level. Those two issues immediately divide the electorate into camps comprising roughly half the “true believer” voters with the candidates left to fight over the remainder on other issues. Thinking Trump appointing and the Senate confirming a true constitutionalist will somehow change that is just silly.
What you are missing is the voter fraud. The supreme court is going to have to decide if the democrats can mail out millions of unsolicited ballots. If the court decides that this is OK then President Trump will almost certainly lose the election. What you would see on November 03 was an obvious massive landslide win for Trump that will be followed days later by the democrats showing up with millions of false ballots and claim that Joe Biden is the winner. The democrats and their people have already written more or less about how this will be done. Ginsburg was a Marxist – communist. She would certainly have voted in favor for the unsolicited mail in ballots. Thank God that she is gone.
You are correct and the democrats will make it about that so
their followers get out the vote.
really. “cant have ME peace without a deal with the Palestinians” . “those jobs are not coming back”. HOw about looking at the issue of abortion constitutionally (by state, and by votes) instead of a black robe decree?
Hoping and praying Chief Justice Roberts resigns!
Hoping and praying Chief Justice Roberts resigns or hangs himself for allowing the democrats to blackmail him. That man is fooling nobody.
True. The rioters can’t help themselves. And they’re exposing the democrats as the party or arson.
Party of arson.
They’re in Portland right now, playing slap and tickle with Federal Marshals.

That was in 2016. Let’s see what Schumer says in 2020.
Here’s your answer:

Imagine how quickly it dawned on these leftist senate level slaves that they are going to be forced to bash the living shiat out of a Nice, Successful, Strong, Independent, Christian, Family Oriented Woman in front of the entire world only days before the election. ??? You couldnt write a story this good if ya tried.
Buzzy’s replacement on the bench should be named by next Wednesday. Amy Coney Barrett would cause even the most centrist Democrat like Jeff Flake to go apoplectic nuts with increasing speed right up to November 3rd.
If people thought Dems were nuts for defunding police in the face of riots in their cities, wait until you see any Democrat after someone like Barrett is named.
Barrett would be a mistake. A Supreme Court Justice can NOT defer to the Pope’s stance on any issue. I thought Barrett had stated she would do so?
Especially this Marxist pope.
Nobody will be deferring to this pope. ?
Sundance, with all due respect. You put the American flag and the cross as some kind of memorial to Ms. Ginsburg. Firstly the cross is not appropriate as she was Jewish. Secondly the flag is not appropriate as she was a Marxist who did not like our country in any way shape or form. She told the Egyptians not to base their constitution on ours but on the constitution of South Africa. This while she had taken an oath to protect our country. The woman was a Marxist scumbag who hated America and she should not be mourned. Add the fact that the mail in voting fraud will almost certainly end up in the supreme court and that she would have cast her vote in favor of it. The blackmailed Roberts would have voted with her and the November election would be stolen. Ginsburg’s death is the best news I have heard in months. Nobody should be sorry she is dead.
Devilbat
Sundance is a much better person than I am, with the respectful tone of the article on Ginsberg’s death.
I agree with what you said about Ginsberg.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A legend, a this, a holy cow, a that, a great loss to the abortion industry.
Yada-yada-yada RIP. Wax tear coming down.

NOW:
time for payback for Kavanaugh AND DO RIGHT BY THE NATION – nominate AND pass through the most conservative justice imaginable, somebody who would make Gorsuch look like Michael Moore and Kavanaugh look like Nancy Pelosi (not difficult, he is a little weepy)
start process on 9/21 Monday (which better day to start?)
make it snappy, no open hearings (remember Kavanaugh? remember Schiff? remember Nadler? REMEMBER IMPEACHMENT??)
just shove it through
VOTE WED., FRIDAY at the latest
Monday 9/28: it’s done, change the subject
No, it wasn’t too close to the elections. There’s a full month – and more – left.
Please, President Trump! YOU can make it happen !!
You of course know that isn’t going to happen. But I sure wish it would.
The leftist wackos doing the rioting and criminal acts are hurting the democrats election chances. This was made abundantly clear this week when Pelosi stood up for the first time after months of riots and arson and publicly recognized their lawlessness.
Pushing through a confirmation ASAP will only drive the wackos to intensify their assaults on society and that will be a very bad thing for those they think they are trying to get elected.
They’ve already made it abundantly clear that they’re going to continue and intensify their rampages if Trump is reelected, so let us allow them to help that happen now!
So no long confirmation hearings. The Constitution only requires: ”
and [the President] shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.”
To hell with “tradition” and having multiple hearings for senators to grandstand. Drive the presidents pick through with the minimum required to meet the provisions of the Constitution. That will drive the left, their press, and their Antifa and BLM paramilitary arms to even more crazy.
Of course I know that has about a 1% chance of happening. But if I were running the show, that is exactly what I would do. No quarter. The fate of the Republic could hang in the balance.
Liberals Are Furious Over the Nomination of [Insert Name Here] to Supreme Court

Question:
Early voting starts soon in some places. I believe mail in has started right? Or is about to.
First debate is the 29th.
What happens to votes already cast if Biden steps down after votes are in?
Void? Or some other disruption that Demonscraps can use to cause chaos? Goes to Kamala?
Is that what the plan is? Have people vote and then half way Joe drops out and it all goes downhill from there.
People thought they were getting Biden now they were given Kamala, will they revolt?
Last night my husband suggested we go down to City Hall and vote early. That feels like a good idea, it’ll sure help to cut the tension if we know our votes are already under lock and key.
Early voting started in VA and several other places yesterday. Camera footage showed long lines in VA. People want to show solidarity with President Trump by voting in person.
It is SEPTEMBER. VA and some other states are early-voting in SEPTEMBER. WTH?
Sidney Powell. it’s when you see something that’s just meant to be.
“A fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences in Stanford, California from 1977–1978.”
Was she a Fabian?
No RIPs from me. I will not pretend that I am not pleased she is gone. I don’t play those games. She was a traitor to her oath and thus the people and I am sorry it took so long for that seat to come open for Trump to have a chance to fill it.
The Sci Fi Channel‘s screening of the complete “Friday the 13th” slasher series at the time Ginsburg’s demise was announced tonight was, I thought, a particularly fitting tribute to the late justice. Jason was just beginning to hack his way without a care through Camp Blood in Part II when the announcement of her departure reached us. He seemed to me to embody Ginsburg’s unique and very special contribution to American culture. I for one was quite moved. It should be an annual event this time of the year from here on out, a sort of Ruth Bader Ginsburg Film Festival.
Dignum et justum est.
If Roe v Wade gets repealed and easy trade with China disappears, the supply of fetal materials will get tight. If we thought the adrenochrome billionaires were out of control before, just wait….
Ginsburg was a darling of the Left because she was a Leftist Activist. Her anti-American policies and love for murdering innocent children were a pox on this land. God will judge her works and make the right determination. As for me I say: “Good riddance”.
She lived for 87 years.
Millions of helpless human beings did not get to live for 87 seconds because of judges like her advocating partial birth abortion where the baby is half way into this world and then has the spinal cord cut and the brain scrambled with forceps to kill (murder) it by a sadist masquerading as a “medical professional” and then the organs are sold for millions of $$$$ profit.
I have no respect for Justice Ginsberg. Knowing she had metastatic cancer, and held on to her position. She was not capable of making any decisions. This is a disgrace to our Justice System. C J Roberts needs to be called out. he should have demanded her resignation.
THIS WAS POLITICAL B.S.
teaforall- “C J Roberts needs to be called out. he should have demanded her resignation.
THIS WAS POLITICAL B.S
THIS!!!. (and Soto Major looks like death warmed over as well!!!)
This is going to get mighty interesting! The Democrats finally have something to excite and unite their broken party and the Republicans will also rally for a conservative SC court appointment.
By the by, is someone going to ask Senator Harris, Democrat VP nominate, whether she has a conflict of interest and should recuse in voting on President Trump’s SC nomination? I don’t think she’s bothered to make a Senate vote since she became the Democrat VP nominate. Hey, Dems would ask that of a Republican, wouldn’t they?
Time to see what Mitch really stands for this time. There’s only 13 days before the election on the Senate Calendar. If he means business, that will have to change in order to vote before the election.
If vote is delayed to after election I would say Republicans will vote only if PT wins. If it is undecided or goes to Biden(Heaven forbid) then they won’t take a vote because they will be unsure of who will hold political power.
No matter what happens, you can be assured that we are going to have even a bigger political circus of dirty shenanigans than we are currently having with only President Trump and ourselves to defend the future of our Country.
Stay strong, stay engaged, and never give up! MAGA!
Is that P for purgatory?
After coming out of his basement to ‘scream’ about PT not doing his job, not he doesn’t want PT to ‘Do Your Job!’. At least we won’t be hearing about Covid-19 from anyone anymore.
