I knew it would eventually surface. Secretary of State for Africa, J Carson, is outlining how under the Obama administration foreign policy is a method of advocating for “Social Justice” as a solution to ideologically driven opposition. In most recent events the Boko Haram Jihadists.
*NOTE* In this current example Boko Haram is the terror enemy. Boko Haram have said their behavior is driven by their Islamic faith – and demand for strict adherence to Sharia Law, the underpinning of Islam. For Boko Haram this is a holy war. Remember this as you go forward.
The exact same U.S. “social justice” approach via foreign policy, which is now openly displayed toward Nigeria (Boko Haram), was engaged two years ago in Uganda toward the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) and terrorist Joseph Kony. Remember #KonySurrender.

What’s the larger picture ?
Step back and you can see how totally weak and disconnected this Obama Doctrine is.
This administration -and yes that includes both former and current secretary of States’ Hillary Clinton and John Kerry- view foreign policy through the prism of “social justice” definitions.
How so ? Think back to early 2013 and Sec. John Kerry talking about the issues in Syria, Egypt and the Middle East Palestinian conflict. Do you remember him giving speeches about the “real cause” for civil war being unemployment ? John Kerry wants to stop terrorism with a jobs program – 2013.
“[W]e’re not going to solve this challenge of terror and of extremism and of people finding an alternative if we’re not reaching out to people, talking to them, bringing them to the table and trying to work through major, perceived differences,” Secretary of State John Kerry told a gathering in Brussels on Monday. “I believe we have to create a new paradigm, frankly, to deal with this.” (link)
That was April 2013. Now today, May 2014, in a speech about Nigeria, John Kerry:

[…] During his recent Africa trip leaders had told him that much of the challenge in confronting violent extremist groups like Boko Haram lies in fighting poverty, Kerry said at a Council of the Americas conference in Washington.
“They all talked about poverty and the need to alleviate poverty, and that much of this challenge comes out of this poverty where young people are grabbed at an early stage, proffered a little bit of money,” he said.
“Their minds are bended, and then the money doesn’t matter anymore. They’ve got the minds, and they begin to direct them into these very extreme endeavors.”
[…] Kerry’s comments on poverty as a key factor follows others by State Department officials in recent years, focusing on socio-economic issues rather than the religious element when discussing Boko Haram. (link)
The construct of social justice is embedded in the Obama Doctrine and his approach at foreign policy. They completely disregard the self proclaimed motives of the jihadists themselves.
Back to Asst. Sec of State Johnnie Carson this is in 2012:
“It is important to note that religion is not the primary driver behind extremist violence in Nigeria,” then-assistant secretary of state for African affairs Johnnie Carson told a Senate committee in March 2012. He said Boko Haram “attempts to exploit the legitimate grievances of northern populations to garner recruits and public sympathy.”
See the disconnect ? The terrorists, both Joseph Kony and Boko Haram, have specifically stated the goal is strict adherence to Sharia Law and the Koran / Prophet Mohammed.
The terrorists have said “this is a holy war“, they have given speeches about a religious war between Islam and the Western World – Yet Obama/Kerry/Clinton and cohorts refuse to accept this is an ideologically driven enemy.
Why? Because terrorism -as an Islamic Jihad mandate- does not support the progressive world view espousals as a touchy feely global community.
Bottom line:
What good is R2P when the “P” hate your definition of “R” ?
Or. How can it “take a village” to raise your child, if the villager’s are more than willing to kill your child because they hate the very fiber of your inherent being.
Need more proof….
WASHINGTON POST […] “The Nigerians have shown a reluctance to accept not only our assistance but also a reluctance to accept some of our analytic advice,” said Johnnie Carson, who was assistant secretary of state for Africa until last year. “It is important that the Nigerians accept this.”
Carson said the United States could share satellite data to help track the movements of the fighters, which would mirror assistance it has contributed to the international hunt for elusive rebel leader Joseph Kony in eastern Africa.
The Obama administration has been critical of the military approach of the Jonathan government, which is dominated by Christians from the country’s south, in dealing with the insurrection in the predominantly Muslim north.
Washington has advocated a wider economic and social-justice agenda to counter the dogmatic Islamists and increase national loyalty among disaffected northern Nigerians. Jonathan has mostly ignored the advice, Carson and others said. (read more)
