After President Trump’s “easy way or the hard way” remark on Iran, and his statement at the U.N. that the election won’t influence his Iran policy, the episode revisits the 1953 overthrow of Mohammad Mosaddegh, whom the letter calls an “Americanophile,” after he nationalized the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, today’s BP, and cites National Security Archive documents showing the British Foreign Office approached the Truman administration in late 1952 to propose a coup.
Her review then then turns to a Foreign Affairs newsletter citing the 1956 Suez crisis as a parallel to the war with Iran, President Eisenhower’s refusal to back Britain and France at Suez, and Gamal Abdel Nasser’s 1955 Foreign Affairs article on how the British ran Egypt. It closes with Richard Haass on Morning Joe, the morning after Trump’s U.N. speech, calling it “the end of 80 years of American foreign policy,” Chatham House director Bronwen Maddox on Europe having to defend itself against the U.S., and Mark Carney telling the New York Times he spent the past year preparing for the “extreme tail risk” of U.S. military action against Canada. There is a major nuance here that is missing … it is NO LONGER the “British Empire”, per say.

If the British ever were our friends, that ship has sailed long ago. It’s time to add some teeth to the Donroe Doctrine, first by supporting Javier Milei with satellite and other tactical information, as well as any air and naval weaponry and humanitarian aid that they may need to peacefully reclaim their territory. It also wouldn’t hurt to coincidentally deploy one of our Carrier Strike Groups to the area, when the time comes, just to ensure that things do not escalate.
It is past time that we were a friend to the friendly countries in the Americas, rather than an exploiter. I think that this would put a lot of points on the board, when it comes to negotiating with other Central and South American countries who understandably have concerns about closer ties with the USA. It’s past time that we turned over a new leaf in this respect. Our immediate goal should be to unite North, Central and South America into a unified trading block. It’s good business, it’s good for everyone’s standard of living and it’s good for everyone’s security, especially ours … and it would make it much more difficult for Marxism to get a toe hold in this hemisphere.
There should be a similar organization to DJT’s Board of Peace, to oversee development in Central and South America, for those countries where needed, which is staffed by the leaders of all of these countries. We should support this group organizationally, rather than dictating what should be done. The last thing that we need is China making inroads with its Belt and Road nonsense, which would ultimately be bad for the countries thus entangled, as well as our own security. LT Abdul Nassar and other Egyptian Army Officer has spent the war years 1940-1945 RESISTING the British Occupation of Egypt. they went so far as to commit acts of sabotage and subversion. The survival of the strong British presence was vital to the survival of the Allies throughout the war.
After the war the USSR became very active in cultivating and reviving the Arab Nationalist Movements, who’s goal was to drive the British Colonizers. The USSR was the major source of the Communist-Socialist Elements in Egypt, Syria and Iraq. They helped inspire the Formation of the UAR (United Arab Republic) and sent economic and military aid to the UAR nations.
As for the 1956 Operation by the French and UK to reclaim the canal … there was a very real threat that the USSR would dominate operations of the canal as they were sending economic and military aid to Egypt.
So before allowing yourself to be suckered in by the story consisting of only those rotten UK Colonialists, be advised the situation has far more context and complexity than the story in the Video.
