A rather remarkable statement from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick puts the Canadian government on notice. If Lutnick is accurately outlining what took place, there’s no way Trump is going to give them a trade deal.
When he is questioned about the U.S-Canada trade agreement collapse, Secretary Lutnick quotes the Canadian govt officials. “I said to him, are you trying to blow this up? and he said, and I quote, “I’m not allowed to say that.“” Lutnick then encapsulates what that response meant.
“They decided for political reasons, domestically, domestic Canada, they’d rather fight with Donald Trump; even if it’s bad for the economy of Canada, for their political ambition to get a certain election,” Lutnick noted. He continued, “now remember, Quebec has the sovereign party was in the lead, so that’s why they came up with this French nonsense. You think the American side talked about how people speak in Quebec? We have a deal with France, we have a deal with Italy, we have a deal with Germany, we don’t care about their language; none of that was true.” WATCH (prompted):

Can we just not buy Canadian? Is it economically and logistically feasible? I’m all for it. I can only assume when President Trump announces leaving the trilateral deal everyone and their mother will be bringing lawsuits. Is Trump perhaps waiting until after the midterms? I don’t know what I don’t know.

Most average “citizens” are more interested in the text message in front of them than the realities of international trade and economic policy.
I experience this idiocy daily in my checkout line. People so engrossed in that little screen they don’t have the common courtesy to answer the simple question “Would you like a bag?” without me having to repeat it two or three times before they answer, only to start texting again.
And the second worst are those who are talking the whole time they’re checking out.
We stopped buy anything and everything from Canada, after that fat bastard Doug ford trashed our president. Then there loser press won’t call the 911attack terrorism. We don’t care anything about them and there arrogance. Let them stay right up there.

I keep on wondering what the backlash is going to be from Canadian owned businensses that have U.S. subsidiaries. Will Canada go after those businesses for daring to have U.S. subsidiaries?
(asking for input should anyone have an inkling because we’re working with one such company, it’s US subsidiary and any hint of what may come will help in preparing the groundwork to avoid the worst of whatever happens, so any third party ideas would be appreciated.)
Yes; saw this. and, fingers crossed, the fact we’re dealing with its US subsidiary that will be sufficient.
But, I also remember what the Canadian government did to its truckers when the men decided to not get those mRNA injections so no longer have any illusions that the ‘good guys’ are in charge in Canada and so trying to get ahead should things get ‘complicated’ as the saying goes.

Carney blew-up the deal to damage President Trump in November. Carney isn’t even up for reelection until October 15, 2029!
