Okay, this is a very big win. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen outlines some more details of the U.S-EU trade agreement. The parameters fall similar to the Japanese deal, without the banking aspect.
The EU will face (and accept) a 15% tariff rate for most exports to the USA including autos, that’s huge, even with some zero-for-zero tariff sectors outlined. The primary motivating factor was to avoid the 35% tariff rate scheduled for August 1st and provide the EU corporations with certainty in their tariff rate as applied by the USA (15%). WATCH:

The Marshall plan is over. With Donald Trump, every day is filled the historical, momentous events.
The Marshall Plan? It is over! Incredible! That is a hell of thing to say.
The ramifications will be tremendous and might actually save Europe from its suicidal trajectory.
A great victory for the US and our President, who is changing the entire globe at light speed in terms of rebalancing economic power; and bringing literally unbelievable amounts of investment into the country – our own firms as well as many other countries with which we have significant trade / interests.
Europe under the EU is coping badly with the consequences of foreign immigration for decades and the socialist polices of the majority of their governments. That will be a daunting challenge for them to overcome. The trade agreement might bring them to their senses to instill common sense and encourage citizens to cause things to change, Von der Leyen and her ilk must go; the quicker the better.

I have often been amazed that We the People are still standing in spite of all the forces aligned against us on multiple fronts. The evil we fought in WWII was not fully defeated. It went underground until it got strong enough to wage “asymmetrical war.”
I am now wondering what it will be like to live in an America that isn’t being taken advantage of on all those same fronts now that the warfare against us is being addressed?

IMO the EU is an authoritarian and bullying adversary to all of our best tech exports, and we should not tolerate social media censorship, heavy-handed AI and device manufacturer (servers, routers, storage, etc) regulations, etc.

Can someone walk me through how this will end the marshall plan. We still have bases in place in the EU ( 1 is too many in my worldview). I know it is more than military presence, but how does this end the tax dollars taken from my while I work into my 60s to allow EU residents working only 35 hour work weeks, all of month of August vacations, pensions starting at 55/58/60, and universal healthcare.

Why does Ursula have the sads? It shouldn’t be the trade deal with the US because the deal will ultimately be of great benefit to Europe. She must be sad because her beloved socialist world view has been badly damaged and she has to admit that free market entrepreneurism is a greater engine of wealth and economic power.
Best of luck to Europe in the coming months and years for newfound wealth and freedom for their people. May Europe and the US continue to wrest the socialist/communist boot from our necks.
To put this in relatable terms, the people born when the Marshall Plan was first enacted are now Retired, Elderly, Grandparents and or DEAD.
The Marshall Plan should have ended the second Europe recovered in the 1950’s.

I think celebrations are premature. The deal does not address EU’s VAT which is a big impediment to US exports. Also, the EU does not directly have any funds to invest 600 billion dollars (in three years) into the US and must rely on convincing private companies to make these promised investments. If they have not made the investments in the past what would motivate them to invest now? Let’s see how the markets react in the next couple of weeks.

I remember my late Dad calling the Marshal Plan “history’s biggest giveaway” way back in the 1970’s. How right he was. We deliberately handicapped our own steel and autoworkers in the name of reviving Europe. If we had to do it for Cold War strategic reasons, fine, but it went on far, far too long, and patriotic Americans paid the price.

Does this include German autos? If so, that’s significant dollars. To my understanding, no German autos are manufactured in the USA. They are only assembled at US plants. All parts are manufactured in Germany and as such would be subject to a 15% tariff.
I went to European (mostly German) car repair guys back when I had a Mercedes. I asked the friendliest tech what car he would advise NOT to buy and he responded, “Don’t buy any German cars ever again!” Ha ha. It was because they are SOOO expensive to repair, and most of them require premium gas.

What happened to the assessment regarding the EU’s DSA censoring Americans on platforms like X and Facebook? I did not see that being discussed as part of the tariff deal. But if it’s not party of that deal, then where and when would it be discussed? Note that the EU plans to fine platforms a certain amount of their GLOBAL revenue for every “violation.” But platforms at least until now did not have country-specific filters, which showed or filtered out posts and content depending on the country you were in. I have the feeling that either this was overlooked (and this was an issue that has been belabored by both Vance and Rubio multiple times, including recently, as well as before European leaders.
