Today’s POLITICO smearcase cheesecake is among the dozens of hit-pieces-masquerading-as-journalism that helped me decide.
Here are some of the lowlights of the piece:
Below the POLITICO logo, in fine print, it says, “Report alleges Gaetz paid 17-year-old for sex” (my bold italic)
But the sub-headline of the piece penned by Anthony Adragna, in much larger print, says,
“The report found the Florida firebrand committed statutory rape, solicited prostitutes and used illegal drugs, among other misbehavior.” (again, my bold italic)
So which is it, POLITICO and Adragna, alleged or found? Those two words have totally different meaning in the law!
Now we get to the very first paragraph, which says,
“The House Ethics Committee on Monday formally released its long-awaited report into former Rep. Matt Gaetz, finding the Florida firebrand committed statutory rape, solicited prostitutes and used illegal drugs, among other misbehavior.”
Again with “finding” but the report did not find anything…it simply alleged!
Even the author acknowledges this a couple of paragraphs later when he reluctantly admits,
“Gaetz has repeatedly denied the allegations against him and did so again to POLITICO…”
So now the report’s findings have once more become allegations!
I don’t allege POLITICO’s piece to be a steaming pile of journalistic trash…I found it to be so!
Trump recently sued ABC and George Stephanopoulos over similar slander and a federal judge found in favor of the plaintiff to the tune of a 15 million dollar settlement!
I think Matt Gaetz has grounds to receive a similar finding against POLITICO and Anthony Adragna!

Politico is correctly reporting the committee’s smear job. They can’t be “found” liable for that, unless someone can definitively prove they knew it to be that (and – given the precedents – probably not even then).
You make a good point, that the House Ethics committee itself engaged in the smear of Gaetz, so any case against POLITICO would be harder to pursue. Interesting that before the committee found Gaetz guilty of sexual misconduct, etc. the committee first found, 1) the attorney representing the girl was not credible and 2) the girl had a profit motive in pursuing her allegations and 3) the DOJ had already investigated the matter for years and decided not to pursue it. In short, lots of exculpatory findings did not dissuade the committee from finding Gaetz guilty of things the DOJ said rose only to the level of allegations.
Let the lawsuit begin. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
The issue isn’t whether he had sex with a minor, it’s whether she was over the age of consent.

On the other hand, member Kay Granger (R-TX) has been absent since July of this year as it appears the 81 year-old has been receiving “memory treatment” in a dementia facility. Does Congress do anything about it? No, they sweep it under the rug (Granger is retiring once Congress adjourns). Congress looks after its own and lets the subordinates and lobbyists do the job they won’t.
This is disgraceful and disgusting.

Sorry, I scrolled through and only made it to page 17 or so. What I saw were a bunch of allegations that, if true, Gaetz will have to answer to God for. It was the classic smear job report. And they put in all the legal footnotes and terms to make it seem official. Sorry, I am not that stupid.
These are evil people. I have much better things to do than read their “report”. I will pray for them though.

Matt Gaetz is going to be named a “Special Prosecutor” specifically designed to look at “Insider Trading” by members of Congress. This was one of the main reasons he was detested by members in the Uni-Party.
