Former defence chiefs who led British troops in the Middle East were among those to speak out, while there were warnings that the West’s withdrawal would embolden Russia and China.

Which leads to what I think of this whole situation: Afghanistan’s current situation is and never was worth our energy and attention who our governments have made it clear time and again they don’t listen to us, whether its our calls to avoid that quagmire and money pit for our taxpayer dollars for the last 2 decades or any other matter.
Those of us who are able to think have been hammering constantly about Afghanistan being a graveyard of empires and pulling out for the last 20 years. No one listened.
Even after the ‘2nd death’ of Bin Laden in 2010 the western hemisphere stayed there for another 10 years.
Whatever happened with the withdrawal, we saw this day coming some day. Great news, Afghanistan is Russia’s and China’s problem now.
And to those servicemen who believed they had wasted their effort in nation building and have an emotional connection to their involvement in Afghanistan, the harsh reality is you were misled into being tools for a global transnational entity with tentacles in almost every government in the world. Their prime directive was to loot, steal and create further destabilisation in that part of the world.
The fact there were serious questions immediately after the events of 2001 and began building up thereafter should have been enough to request discharge, if not doing whatever it takes to avoid getting involved in that mess.

I don’t think the left has a monopoly on incompetence. There are plenty of morons on the right as well. Politicians generally know how to campaign and raise money for themselves (both legally and illegally) but know nothing about anything else. I think Xiden is becoming more difficult to handle. He’s tired, feeling pressure, isn’t comfortable because it isn’t home.
My mother had Alzheimer’s. She got to where she didn’t want to go anywhere, wanted to be in her own home, familiar surroundings. She loved to go places and see people before the disease set in. If we were at the store or wherever and she got tired, upset, agitated, flustered, confused……she demanded to go home and she would then settle down.
This was a slow progression, but when dealing with it every day it is easy to spot.
