As a writer and journalist myself, I generally appreciate our libel laws, however, they have been stretched way too far by the courts. It is one thing to be protected from a massive judgment for making an unwitting mistake, or being given false information by a source. It is quite another to willfully take part in spreading disco information and lies.
From firsthand experience, The NY Times has ZERO interest in printing the truth when it comes to the anti-Trump bias.
      Consider this ACTUAL EXPERIENCE:
Trump got two loans from Deutsche Bank in 1998 – the first in the relationship. In their multiple articles on the subject, the Times has NEVER printed the OUTCOMES of those two loans. They have implied there were problems with them. Despite being told REPEATEDLY that both loans were fully repaid, the Times did not report this. Despite being told REPEATEDLY that these two projects were ENORMOUSLY profitable for Trump, they never mention this. How profitable? 40 Wall Street, which is a leasehold was bought for about $1 million plus costs. Trump put in less than $15 million of his own money. He has gotten that back many times over in the past 22 years in profits and management fees. He still owns it. The building was valued in a formal MAI appraisal in 2015 for a CMBS (Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities) deal by the lender at $540 million, about $400 million above the debt. Bloomberg valued it at $550 million in 2016. The CMBS deal is a matter of public record, as is the complete underwriting package for that loan. Strange not to report this — but since it makes Trump look like a very smart stable genius, best not to.
The second loan, on Trump World Tower, also went spectacularly for Trump. He got a $295 million construction loan from a large German bank (one of the most active construction lenders in NYC for decades) Bayerische Hypovereinsbank, and Union Labor Life Insurance (also a big NY lender on all-union buildings) – put together by Deutsche Bank, which agreed to take over the loan when the 72-story tower was completed. Deutsche believed the entire loan would be repaid by “pre-sales” of condo apartments, which is exactly what happened. Public records show Trump sold those condos for $500-1,000/per sq ft. At around 750,000 sq. Ft and a loan amount of $350.ft that suggests Trump (who had an equity partner) netted some $200-400 million on the building. Another home run deal. Now the Times would have done the research and showed this wasn’t true if there is anything wrong, but they didn’t. They just left it out completely,
Maybe I’m nuts, but you would think in two articles about Deutsche Bank and Trump, and their “DARK SECRETS” you might be expected to report on how all their loans did, not ONLY the Chicago deal that got sideways in the 2009 Global Financial Crisis. No mention of the close to $1 billion in profits on the first two deals!!
If this isn’t BLATANT BIAS I don’t know what is. The MSM wants Trump to be an idiot who never did a good deal and only has the money Daddy the Klansman gave him. And this same bias tracks through everything they write.
Good luck to Nunes. I HOPE the Post has to defend itself, and a Judge can decide rationally if they knowingly and with callous disregard for the truth smeared him. As a politician and public figure, damages will be hard to assess, but humbling the Post, and setting a precedent would be good for all the private people that have become collateral damage in the media’s frenzy to GET TRUMP.

I second the first hand info. The NYSLimes interviewed me a while back. They ignored 98% of what I said, and used the 2% to support the angle they wanted on the story. They had already decided on the story – they just wanted any data to support it. (Not very scientific – for the “defenders” of science!) Hence, I have not read that paper in decades.
This is almost always their modus operandi. The issue then becomes whether the suppression of the other data is for a corrupt intent, and that is very hard to prove. Newspapers (like you and I) are entitled to free speech, so they are allowed to engage in opinion. And suppression of data that furthers the opinion they desire is legal. One has to prove that the ONLY reason for their story is to harm someone – and that is very very hard to prove with hard evidence. You need a reporter who will testify to it – and that is not very likely.
We should plant spy reporters in these opinion publications. It may take years, but we need to do that.

So let’s recap all of the “incidents” that have occurred over the past few years and you tell me if truth and justice is paramount anymore and if there isn’t a two tier system of justice within DC!

    1) Uranium One – No Crimes, No Indictments
    2) Hammer 47 Hard Drives – No Crimes, No Indictments
    3) Anwan Brothers – No Crimes, No Indictments
    4) HRC Unsecured Server & 33K Emails – No Crimes, No Indictments
    5) Wiener Laptop Email Contents – No Crimes, No Indictments (outside Wiener)
    6) DNC Server Hack – Alleged Crime, No Indictments
    7) Seth Rich murder – No arrests
    8) Fake Dossier and fraud on FISA Court 4 times – No Crimes, No Indictments
    9) Years of FISA Abuse – No Crimes, No Indictments
    10) Years of FIB Contractor Abuse – No Crimes, No Indictments
    11) Carter Page FISA Leak – No Crime for Leaking (just one count lying)
    12) Numerous other Classified Leaks – No Crimes, No Indictments
    13) Numerous referrals to DOJ – No Crimes, No Indictments
    14) Numerous Agents violating policy – No Crimes, No Indictments
    15) Ukraine WB fraud – No Crimes, No Indictments
    16) Impeachment Fraud and made up narrative by House Leader – No Crimes, No Indictments
    17) Ukraine Money Laundering – No Crimes, No Indictments
    18) Epstein – No Crimes, No indictments

Seriously, look at this list and virtually NOTHING from our Government!

I’m not sure it is even statistically possible but here it is.

I think as more and more Americans see lists like these coupled with the lists of their people who got a pass and our people who get indicted, they clearly see the bias and injustice.

The American people see and now know, so what’s it going to be, truth and equal justice or just more of the same?

The lady DOJ lawyer dismissing the McCabe case–Gastron???? Her father is a lawyer/partner in the same firm where Eric Holder is a partner. And her mother works for OR worked for the Washington Post. Bias??? Leaking??? One wonders.

The same firm where Eric Holder is a partner was Gen Flynn’s lawyers before he fired them. Did they disclose to Gen. Flynn at any time that Holder was a partner in the firm or joining the firm at anytime during their representation??? My guess is no.

And now we know it wasn’t just Ovomit, McCabe, Comey, the FBI & the Mueller investigation who screwed Gen. Flynn. Oh, I forgot…Peter Strzok’s buddy Judge Contreras was the judge on Flynn’s case before he was forced to recuse himself & he took the guilty plea.

This is what Barr faces. The DOJ/FBI is rift with this & it’s not just limited to DC. And he faces activist judges AND nationwide injunctions, sanctuary governments, & a President who is not a politician making tsunami waves.

Barr really needs to clean out his departments. That became even more obvious w/the prosecutors on the Stone case, even the 2 who replaced the quitters.

Once Assange published the 2nd part of Vault 7, negotiations went out the window.

I have seen both say they HOPE Barr and Durham are ‘getting to the bottom’of this or that, which can be taken as expressing optimism, OR subtely putting pressure on Barr, but I don’t see it as ‘supporting’.

Hence, I feel very comfortable saying Barr, even Barr/Durham is doing nothing, while very much grateful for Nunes and Sidney.

Dutch, I don’t get how people think Barr will deliver the goods with Durham. History and track record to day say otherwise. I remain optimistic but I don’t expect anyone to be held to account.

How many times is the DOJ and WH going to stand by while information is leaded from the SSCI? The news stories break almost immediately after the meetings end. It’s almost instant. So that tells me some heads up is given and then the details are shared after. Do I have definitive proof? No, but it doesn’t take major critical thinking skills to look at timing and compare it to past leaks.

My question and maybe one of the lawyers that visit here can answer: why don’t they arrest the reporters who publish these stories? The DOJ knows they received classified info. Get the journos, put them in jail for breaking the law. Then either the leaks will stop or one of them will fold.

IN a ‘free society’ we need the 4th estate (press) to be able to disseminate information and opinion critical of our government; its an additional ‘check’ on government power.

Therefore, while it is illegal to leak classified info, it is not illegal to print it.

              • Dutchman says:

Ah, that IS the question. Did our Founders envision a time when ALL mainstream press would be on “one side”, and openly biased?

Freedom of speech, and so press, is based on the idea that ALL ideas are allowed to be expressed; that the GOVERNMENT does NOT use its awsome power to restrict or sensor.

Rediculous ideologies or ideas are heard, but not being credible, gain no traction, or are DISCREDITED over time.

Therefore, even so called “Hate speech”, is NOT restricted by the government.

Hence, the ACLU was correct when in argued in favor of a city issueing a permit for a Nazi or KKK parade.

Hate crimes legislation, followed by proposals for the government to restrict hate speech, are leading down a slippery slope, of using Government powers to attempt to restrict thought and speech.

Once you start down that road, you are doomed.
The ‘answer’, such as it is, is MORE speech, not less.

Look at the ratings, and look at the viewership of this sight, and others like AmericanThinker.

The media are losing viewership, and sights like this gaining. Over time, messy as it is, there will be a ‘correction’.
                More and more people, every day are ‘cutting the cord’. To adapt an old quote from the ’70’s;

Not ALL the press was supportive, nor the populace for that matter. There were “loyalists”, who felt ANY talk of breaking with the crown was SEDITION.

Thats like the absurd notion that the founders weren’t familiar with, or talking about “hate speech”, which of coarse MUST be banned, and banished from public discoarse, by government edict!

You don’t think Franklin and Jefferson weren’t villified, in their day by the loyalists?
READ the US Sedition statute carefully; it is clear that a KEY element of the illegal activity, a key element of the CRIME is “the use of force” or ADVOCATING use of force to overthrow the gov’t.

Put another way, America is the only country in the World (I suspect) where it is perfectly legal to stand on a streetcorner, loudly advocating for the overthrow of the Gov’t., or hand out pamphlets, get on the i-net or on tv, not just critisising the gov’t, but advocating replacing it.

And not only is it ‘legal’, your right to do so is SPECIFICALLY PROTECTED from the gov’ts actions, to try and STOP you.

They certainly understood ‘hate speech’, and anticipated a biased press.
And the answer is MORE speech, not less,…and MORE PRESS, not less.
The Gov’t can NOT compel the msm to be unbiased,…but WE, THE PEOPLE, in the marketplace, and in the marketplace of ideas CAN, and are.
By exposing themselves, the msm has LOST credibility, and PDJT has gained it.
Without credibility, the msm lose their POWER to influence.
                  Without POWER, they are NOTHING.
People, as a general rule, give trust fairly easily. But, once lost, it is VERY difficult to get it back.

Neither PDJT nor Barr want the DOJ/FBI tore down to its studs.

PDJT’s main concern has been that “this should never happen to another President”. I don’t hear him calling for mass jailings and don’t think he expects it.

Barr may turn out to be a disappointment in accomplishing that, and certainly won’t satisfy many (if not most here), but to say he has done nothing is to ignore the fact that before he came along Mueller would have had the President on an impeachment train and conviction in the Senate.

It was Barr who put a stop to that, but I guess it’s “what have you done for me lately”.

Well, my view is that Mueller investigation imploded; they ‘shot their load’ and it had become obvious they failed.

The purpose was to trigger PDJT to fire them, so he could be impeached for Obstruction.
THAT was the plan. As they engaged in more and more outrageous and aggregious behavior, it became obvious he wasn’t going to fall into their ‘Obstruction trap’ or ‘Perjury trap’, they had NO exit strategy.

So, Barr was brought in as a ‘cleaner’, to shepard the process to a conclusion, with minimal messiness, which he did.
He got the bad actors off the stage, Rosie, Mueller, Weisman all retired but none prosecuted.

Report issued, “move on, nothing to see here, folks!”

Barr wasn’t doing PDJT a favor, in closing the Mueller chapter, he was doing the coupists a favor. If PDJT ALSO benefitted from ending Mueller investigation, that was incidental.
At the end, Mueller failed in its primary mission (Obstruction/Perjury trap) and was marginally succesful in bottling up, delaying or preventing info from coming out (muh ongoing investigation).

Ok, so, much of it is on twatter, fakebook etc… by necessity, but the point remains the same. President Donald J. at the 5.25 mark Nunes says “the democrats are not prepared”.. she then closes her eyes and resigns with an “ok”.. she lost the Fox Leftist News Narrative.. again..

If I recall correctly the Gang of Eight is a colloquial term for a set of eight leaders within the United States Congress who are briefed on classified intelligence matters by the executive branch.Specifically, the Gang of Eight includes the leaders of each of the two parties from both the Senate and House of Representatives, and the chairs and ranking minority members of both the Senate Committee and House to include the SSCI.

So what prevents the two SSCI members of the Gang of Eight from passing classified information to the other members of the Gang of Eight? Then any or all of the members of the Gang of Eight could pass fake or partially truthful information to the MSM. Before the executive branch even gets the classified information.
