Macron Cracks Down on Yellow Vest Protests – Blocks Champs-Elysees Avenue, Replaces Police Chief…

Following a weekend of clashes, violence and stores burned in the city of Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron has replaced the police chief and announced blockades to keep yellow vest protesters away from key tourist destinations.

PARIS (AP) — France’s prime minister announced a ban Monday on yellow vest protests along the Champs-Elysees Avenue in Paris and in two other cities following riots on Saturday that left luxury stores ransacked and charred from arson fires.

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said the ban will apply for an unspecified period in the neighborhoods that have been “the most impacted” in the cities of Paris, Bordeaux and Toulouse, where repeated destruction has occurred since the yellow vest protest movement began in November.

He also said Paris police chief Michel Delpuech will be replaced this week by prefect Didier Lallement.  Philippe announced the measures following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and top security officials that sought to avoid a repeat of Saturday’s violence, in which rioters set life-threatening fires, ransacked luxury stores and attacked police around the Champs-Elysees. Many of those high-end boutiques remained closed on Monday, some of them charred from arson fires set.

He acknowledged “dysfunction” in French police operations on Saturday, rejecting “inappropriate” orders given to security forces to use fewer rubber bullets following a controversy about the numerous injuries they’ve caused at previous protests. (read more)

Today Rush said Trump has the highest rating from the GOP of any President on modern history. If these numbers hold, there are so many Republicans supporting him he should easily win a second term (depending on how much more cheating the Dems do this time around — as we know they’ve been doing a lot of practicing during the mid-terms).

Hence it’s super important as many of us Treepers as possible sign up to be election judges. Not just for the general election but for the primaries as well.

I had to laugh when I saw a Drudge headine about Bernie easily beating Trump in Wisconsin in 2020. Emerson poll. It shows Trump losing to just about everyone except Klobuchar. But Emerson clearly demonstrated in 2016 that they could not poll Trump supporters. In every single poll they had Hillary easily beating Trump in Wisconsin, and for the general election overall result they predicted a Hillary “landslide”. You know what they say, garbage in, garbage out.

France is also one of the biggest islamic enclave in the EU and is not far behind the UK in term of promoting/protecting islamic extremism and sharia.

And for the current protest, they are not about forced migration and globalism, but taxes.
The movement is primarily wanting more tax on the rich.

I saw verified tweeters on Saturday claiming that the Yellow Vests are protesting because Macron won’t do anything about Climate Change. Good gawd.

      • Zippy says:

The gasoline tax that caused people who lived outside cities and don’t have access to mass transit to START the Yellow Jacket movement, the original Yellow Jackets, would NOT have been griping about climate change because THAT is what was used as and excuse FOR the tax increase.

That sort of gripe would be from the LEFT who have apparently, as I said above, taken over the Yellow Jacket movement.

        Liked by 2 people

        • lolli says:

I agree zippy. I watched it live stream at the start. Just normal citizens. Grassroots. But now, antifa is probably destroying the movement.
Even early on, the French police did not want to hurt their fellow Frenchmen, so France brought in the jackboots from (Germany or UN, sorry, can’t remember). And these non French police started really beating up normal citizens.
Cornering them etc. Not the people burning cars and damaging businesses.
So, I can imagine it has also been a reaction to this and antifa or other globalists are creating a disaster so they are justified in the worlds view regarding how they treat the protestors. IMO
Notice no coverage. Fearful nationalism might spread I guess.

I was in Bordeaux this weekend and watched the protest. It was non-violent, though there were a few gunshot/firecracker sounds.

After the river of yellow vests streamed by they were followed by a vociferous stream of protesters that seemed to be advocating for “Climate Change/Save the Earth” themes. It was extremely odd.

(The police presence was overwhelming and very obviously designed to keep both the protesters and citizenry safe.)

It is a damn shame, but I had to watch these weekly events live on Ruptly, run by RT. I never thought I would need to go to Russian news outlet for the news!

While the US MSM ignored the Yellow Vests for four months, today they are reporting that Paris is going to “crack down” on the protestors without mentioning that the previous demo was rather peaceful. It was the addition of Antifa that cause windows to be smashed along the Champs Elysees for the first time. The MSM knows, but is not reporting.

The anarchist’s flag / banner has been photographed at the yellow vest demonstrations on more than one occasion. The same flag has also been photographed at leftist / democrat rallies in the US. I believe international communist organizations wave that flag (rectangular shape divided diagonally into a black triangle and a red triangle). You can buy all you want at Amazon. Go figure.

    • Herbert Kroll says:

That is partly true. Saturday’s protest included far Left, far Right and the middle. The far Left, Black Block, were most aggressive. Hadn’t seen Antifa in Paris since December. No wonder luxury shops got plundered. In numbers, the radicals were few, like 150 Antifa’s and less than hundred Right Wing protesters.

You can see the far Right at 35:50 and Black Block at 43:15 They make an interesting comparison…

I am a descendant of the Sansons. Yes, those Sansons…at least four of them anyway. So I have a very unique point of view of Revolutions and Civil war. It is the reason my ancestor emigrated out of Paris, and why I absolutely detest the thought of what’s coming for western Europe…and probably the US if we continue on the trajectory we find ourselves.

Macron is playing with fire (and many other globalists too). Some Robespierre will rise up, Macron will likely end up with his head in a basket. Then that new Robespierre will end up the victim of the machine he built. Then there will be a power vacuum. And the natural world cannot suffer a vacuum. Kings and warlords are coming…

The French people are not like Americans in temperament, belief, nor politics. The American and the French Revolutions were very different in process and outcomes.

Emmanuel Macron is not a wise or good leader. That does not automatically make the yellow vest protesters right or even speak one way or the other about their motivations or their beliefs, which I suspect like other commenters is morphing and being guided.

The French do not impress me as a people who will choose wisely and fight for their own best interests, including freedom and security, and my observations are based more on recent history than revolutions and wars.

Just because people protest Macron and French policy doesn’t automatically mean their motivations are what we Americans think they are based on our own cultural assumptions.

A subject of exhilarating study is the contrasts of the American and the French revolutions. The same has remained without yield from then unto now.

France is not simply further down the path which America would take. No, not at all. Rather, it is a wildly divergent trek between the two countries and cultures.

Could this be comparable to the U.S. as a French “Occupy” movement?

What am I to say of them who were there were they shouldn’t be and a police who failed to do what they were hired to do.

Is the current ‘troubles’ in France the same? No. Most assuredly no.

The yellow vests seek a different style of socialism. Not what they have but what will be.

The occupiers in the U.S. sought socialism. A schism between what is and what can be.

You see, entirely different. Oh, of course the difference is nothing more than the thickness of a red hair. If you do not make the discernment the fault is in your, comrade.

The actual difference is within the 2A if you care. There within is a hidden virtue.

Of course, the U.S. Constitution being the oldest in the whole world (how’s that for an upstart country, eh) it is not just the 2A but the entire culture of the country. The 2A grew from recognition of and adherence to a higher standard. Here is where France fell and America gained.
