update-1UPDATE:  1:20am Landfall just south of St. Marks.  Also, Tallahassee getting pounded.

As anticipated Hurricane Hermine has strengthened a bit (now 80mph) as it closes in on the Florida bend.  Anticipated to skirt Apalachicola and move inland through the bend toward Tallahassee.  The storm surge is the immediate cause for concern in the coastal areas, however the inland effects can be secondarily problematic.

This potential impact zone was spared from the horrific 2004 season (Charley, Frances, Ivan, Jeanne), and 2005 (Wilma); which means the trees (mostly oaks) are decades without severe storm impact.  For Tallahassee, and surrounding areas, the wind damage could be considerable and power outages are almost guaranteed.

FP&L is awesome at responding to power failures. However, as with all storms, the scope increases the magnitude of response need.  Fortunately, since 2004, Publix Supermarkets have installed ‘whole-store-generators’ (2005-2009), meaning they can operate at almost full capacity without power almost indefinitely. Essential community needs can be maintained.

Again, if you find yourself in need of assistance please don’t hesitate to reach out.   Our CTH community has multiple avenues to assist if needed, don’t be bashful.  I know there are many people in/around this area who will be dealing with this storm for days – if you need help or need advice on what to do in the aftermath, feel free to reach out.

God Bless and Stay safe.
