Her roommate recovered from whatever it was she had. My mom later tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies. The only symptoms she had ever felt were night sweats and sneezing fits in rehab.
After having sheltered for some six months, we were floored to discover that mom had been there, done that.

Even these very high survival rates are based on an “assumption” that the number of total cases is 2.5x the number of confirmed ones. Many (including me) believe that this number is MUCH higher than 2.5 (although no one knows for sure). If the number is higher, the survival rates are even better, perhaps far better.
Most particularly, I highly doubt that the death rate for those 70 and over is anywhere near 5.3%.
In Regeneron’s clinical study of their PolyclonalAB, half the randomly chosen people had measurable anti-bodies already to COVID, so what’s that tell you? Half the US likely has been exposed!
So, 7 M cases (210,000 deaths) from 165 M people (1/2 US Population) is a 50% infection rate, and only a 3% case load of people feeling bad enough to be tested, but a death rate of only 0.12 %, the general rate for flu.
So, it’s possible that shots won’t be needed (except for the elderly, and their attendants, health providers as well as first responders).

You’re making an assertion, and then extrapolating, based on a misunderstanding of how clinical trials are organized and conducted. It can’t have been “randomly chosen people”. They used both hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients they knew were positive, and a selection of non-positive volunteers of equal size as a control group.
If they chose randomly from the entire population, there wouldn’t be enough subjects to test the medicine on. They wouldn’t be able to measure whether it works.
It says absolutely nothing about how many in the US have been exposed.

A friend’s mother is battling Covid in a Virginia hospital that will not use a lot of these treatments — my friend, who is a pediatric nurse, is devastated that she can’t get her moved to another hospital across town that will try these treatments. Cleveland Clinic here seems to have bought the “HCQ bad” hype, and doesn’t prescribe it for Covid. It’s maddening…
Is your friend’s sick mother competent to make her own decisions, or does your friend have a Medical power of attorney for her? If so, have your friend arrange for an ambulance to take her mother to the other hospital’s ER for admission and sign her out AMA (against medical advice) from the current facility if she is not getting the care she needs.

Actually, my friend is a nurse who is pretty up on medical minutiae, and she and her sister jumped through paperwork hoops to get her to another hospital — but the hospital changed its mind at the last minute. At this point, her mom has been on a ventilator for some time, and she still has covid, which is scarring her lungs and making them stiff with fibrosis. The sad thing is that although she is in the at risk over 65 age group, she was living an active, happy life before this. We are all praying for a miracle for her.

Regeneron isn’t ready to mass produce. And it isn’t for everyone.
Its usage seems to be helpful for a SPECIFIC subset of patients:
– – those with high levels of virus,
– – but low levels of natural antibodies to fight the disease.
For that set of patients, this combination of synthetic antibodies seems to make patients better faster. I suspect that tests on PT put him in the target range for this specific medication.

Well basic virology would suggest that yes once you’ve recovered you’ve built up the required antibodies for survival.

Unless Covid is more like the flu than say, like mumps or measles. We don’t have lasting immunity to flu bugs as they are often different each season and even w/in the season,just mutating enough to not allow protection.
It’s all about the “memory” T cells. Even if antibodies are low say a year from now the Memory T-cells are on guard and would pump up anti bodies fast. All though this BUG mutates, but not anywhere near the flu, it seems to be getting less lethal. Generally speaking that’s what happens. Think of a car engine – it mutates where one spark plug goes out, but can still operate. Then loses 2 spark plugs but gains another carburetor — still gets less functional. You get the idea!
Answer: your immunity to reinfection after having recovered from Covid-19 is “full” for several weeks afterwards. Then your antibodies gradually subside over a few months until few or none are in your system.
BUT…your antibody-producing cells retain a “memory” of the virus properties forever so your immune system will kick up far more rapidly (24-48 hours, as opposed to 5 to 7 days) the next time the same virus or a similar variant or mutation of it infects you. If you are otherwise reasonably healthy without serious comorbidities you should thus be able to fight it off successfully.
I’m not a doctor nor do I play one on tv. But I have read several reports and seen a few video discussions about this very issue that were authored by medical doctors.

President Trump is the current example as to why we citizens need a new medical plan. The ACA was a disaster when it was in thrust upon the public.
