Reporters in Gaza know exactly where the main Hamas compound is located but they refuse to discuss it because: a.) they fear retaliation from Hamas, and, b.) the media don’t want to report anything that supports Israel’s contentions.
GAZA – The idea that one of Hamas’ main command bunkers is located beneath Shifa Hospital in Gaza City is one of the worst-kept secrets of the Gaza war.

So why aren’t reporters in Gaza ferreting it out? The precise location of a large underground bunker equipped with sophisticated communications equipment and housing some part of the leadership of a major terrorist organization beneath a major hospital would seem to qualify as a world-class scoop—the kind that might merit a Pulitzer, or at least a Polk. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Given what we now know – THE BENGHAZI BRIEF – any congressional hearings seem like a total waste of time. There’s really nothing left to discover.
What could possibly be learned ? What possible benefit/value could come as a result ?

The real war on women continues through the mouth of islamists. And it’s worthwhile to remember Turkey’s Prime Minister Erdogan is BFF’s with President Obama on the world stage.
TURKEY – Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister has said women should not laugh out loud in public and urged them to stop talking about ‘unnecessary’ things on the phone.
Bülent Arınç also complained about ‘moral corruption’ by television programmes which he claims are transforming teenagers from ‘symbols of chastity’ into ‘sex addicts’.
Speaking at an Eid el-Fitr – breaking of the fast – event in the northwestern city of Bursa, he claimed Turks had ‘abandoned their values’ and pleaded people to rediscover the Koran.
Describing his ideal chaste man or woman, Arnic said they should both have a sense of shame and honour. (more…)
(Via Daily Signal) Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina says $2 billion in federal aid and other U.S. investment in Central America could help end the flood of immigrants across the U.S. southern border.

But it’s a fool’s game, says the leader of a charity serving immigrants from Honduras.
“I think giving money to these governments is a serious mistake,” said Francisco Portillo, president of the Honduran Francisco Morazan Integrated Organization in Miami. “Corruption in our country [Honduras] is huge, no limits. And the money they are talking about is coming from our taxes.”
Giving money to Central American governments in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador is basically the same as throwing it away, he said. (more…)

A childhood neighbor and friend has been a missionary nurse in Madagascar all of our adult lives. She’s seventy-two now. She retired from her paid position as a missionary a couple of years ago and now continues to work with the same hospitals and schools in Madagascar as a volunteer.
For all practical purposes, Madagascar became her home many years ago and, even though she has come ‘back home’ every couple of years over the last forty-five years to reconnect with her own family and her support base, her professional and personal relationships are in Madagascar.
She spent a couple of days with DH and I four years ago and we visited about the work she was doing. Her responsibilities have included teaching at the national schools. She helped organize the nursing schools and construct the curriculum.
She told us that it has always been and still is a never-ending battle to get the nurse trainees (and nurses on staff) to accept the reality of the need to wash hands, be careful about medicine dosages, keep accurate records on patients, and accept the realities of communicable diseases, recognition of serious symptoms, and providing treatment for diseases that are easily managed in early stages but become deadly if they are ignored.
When a new group of nurses comes in the problems of persuading them about wearing gloves for procedures, washing their hands between patients, being sure that equipment was properly sterilized, etc. were very similar in quality and quantity to what they were a couple of generations earlier. The culture doesn’t get it. She didn’t know why. All she knew was that was the norm, so they just kept on plugging away. (more…)
Watching a media report online I was quite surprised to hear the World Health Organization state they were frustrated by Nigerian government refusing to release the names of other passengers on a flight with a visibly contagious Ebola Patient. Here’s the backstory of why this specific outbreak is so potentially scary:
UPDATE: The Liberian man, Patrick Sawyer was a U.S. Citizen (details below).
Quartz.Com […] last week’s developments could transform this outbreak from an unusually nasty regional epidemic to something much bigger. On Jul. 24, Nigerian authorities confirmed that a Liberian man, Patrick Sawyer, had collapsed in Lagos after flying there from the Liberian capital, Monrovia, and tested positive for Ebola; Sawyer died on the night of July 24-25.
This is alarming. So far, Ebola has been confined to Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia—war-torn and largely rural west African countries. But Lagos is different; not only is it Africa’s biggest city, with 21 million people. It’s also one of the world’s most densely populated. And perhaps scariest of all, it’s a center for international travel—meaning that if it’s not contained, the virus could easily go global. Sawyer’s was the first-ever recorded case of Ebola in Nigeria, according to the Nigerian Tribune. (more…)
