(Via Therese Apel, The Clarion-Ledger) – While investigators are still mum on the specifics of the probe into the death of Jessica Chambers, the Panola County teen burned to death earlier this month, they say they’re making slow and steady progress.
Chambers, 19, was found on Herron Road in Courtland a little after 8 p.m. Dec. 6, walking away from her burning vehicle with burns over 98 percent of her body. Coroner Gracie Gulledge said the cause of the young woman’s death was thermal injury. Officials immediately classified it as a homicide.
With several agencies including the Panola County Sheriff’s Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, the ATF, the State Fire Marshal’s office, and the US Marshals Service involved, Sheriff Dennis Darby said a lot of the investigation operates on looking at the same information, witnesses, evidence and statements from many different angles. The gangs are thriving, the community is in crisis, and both sides of law enforcement are wilfully blind….

JACKSON, Miss. – It’s been over two weeks now since someone doused Jessica Chambers with fire and burned her alive on a rural Panola County road; and still that person has not been arrested and police say they are getting few leads.
“It’s very possible the criminal element has such a strangle hold, if you will, that people are fearful to talk,” said Herold Gray with the Madison and Rankin Counties District Attorney office. “There is significant gang presence, statewide, particularly in that area. Whether not its part of this case remains to be seen.”

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (FOX13) – Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a body that was found in a burning pickup truck Thursday afternoon on Mudville Road in Millington.
A sheriff spokesman said a witness saw a pick-up on fire just after 4 p.m. in the 7800 block of Mudville Road.
When deputies and first responders arrived they found a body inside the pickup truck, which was found down in a ditch.
It is unclear if the body is male or female. The body was found in the passenger side of the pickup truck, SCSO spokesman Chip Washington said. They are considering this as suspicious. (more…)

The last of several hundred emails pointing toward currently trending articles about arrests in Mississippi, surrounding the Jessica Lane Chambers murder case said: “why have you never covered this case?”
This follows numerous emails saying (essentially): “why do you refuse to cover this case“? etc. and many more with similar sentiments….
It appears there are a considerable number of people, fly-by’s, who have no idea how far we took the research into that case and surrounding story. So let me try to stop the nonsensical inbound efforts right now.
The current FBI/ATF etc. stories around the recent arrests in the Panola County area were indeed discussed – SEE HERE. However, there is nothing more to them, as it specifically relates to the Jessica Chambers case, than a need by mostly federal and state authorities to justify the amount of money spent on the case. MISSISSIPPI – It has been a little over eight months since 19-year-old Jessica Chambers was set on fire and left to die on a Panola County back road. A FOX13 investigation uncovered what appear to be new leads and a renewed hope in the case.
Panola County Lead investigator Barry Thompson was in court all day and could not speak on camera, but he did say he felt good about the case. He added investigators are still tying some things together. (more…)

No new information has been released by officials in Courtland, Mississippi, regarding the investigation into the December 6th murder of Jessica Lane Chambers. However, the social media chatter has picked up extensively since District Attorney John Champion announced the timeline of Ms. Chamber’s activity on the day she was killed.
It is the community discussion around the missing hour of 6:30pm to 7:31pm which has brought clarity to events leading up to the tragic night she was killed.
For a person who is new to the entire case much of what is going on might seem disjointed, disconnected or rather innocuous. However, for those people who have followed the case, and the severely bizarre investigative practices within it, there is actually a clarity emerging.
A clarity which may even explain the bizarre statements of the chief investigator, DA John Champion. (more…)
