That our flag was still there
through the gloom and despair
hanging on porches, flapping in schoolyards
painted on cheeks of young mothers
whose husbands are leaving to face the rockets’ red glare,
bombs bursting in air and our flag is still there (more…)
A man who was convinced the Twin Towers would be targeted in a terror attack led 2,700 people to safety from the World Trade Center before being killed when he went back in looking for stragglers.
Security chief Rick Rescorla carried out training drills with staff at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter to prepare them for a terror atrocity after realising the vulnerability of buildings to air terror attacks.
But after leading thousands to safety on 9/11 when his fears were realised, the 62-year-old Cornishman was last seen going back up the stairs of the South Tower before it collapsed. (more…)
On this tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001, We The People of the USA thank you sincerely, O Canada, for your kindness and support of our brothers and sisters in their time of dire need. From Whitehorse to Gander, your graciousness will never be forgotten.
GANDER, N.L. – Gander International Airport in Newfoundland was once a cosmopolitan crossroads where transatlantic flights carrying everyone from world leaders to Humphrey Bogart touched down to refuel.
Its modernist lounge with geometric flooring and sleek furniture is a trip back to 1959, when the Queen opened it as an avant-garde ode to the glamour of air travel.
But Gander’s global prominence faded when jumbo jets started criss-crossing the Atlantic non-stop. Traffic at the sprawling airfield — a former Second World War staging point — dwindled to cargo planes, military flights, emergency landings and the odd private jet.
Then 9-11 hit. (more…)

“Sept. 11 literally was just a normal day for us,” says Col. Mark Tillman, remembering that morning.
Millions of Americans can say that. But only one can say his job that day was flying the President of the United States as the pilot of Air Force One. Col. Tillman found out about 9/11 as many of us did, by watching the news.
“The plane was getting ready to go and then when I was actually on the aircraft, the radio operator called me and said ‘Hey you need to come upstairs right away; take a good look what I have on the television right now.'” (more…)
We have all heard that heroes come in all shapes and sizes; sometimes the most unassuming person rises to the occasion and meets the challenge. And sometimes it is a very special type of animal, a rescue dog. In the aftermath of 9/11 bombings, the world’s largest deployment of rescue dogs were used to search for survivors, working tirelessly with their handlers, searching the ruins, and according to witnesses, giving great comfort to the workers. Dutch photographer Charlotte Dumas will publish a book called Retrieved, featuring the surviving dogs in their final years. Read more and check out the pictures of these wonderful dogs here in this Daily Mail article. (more…)
Mark Bingham died Sept. 11, 2001, while saving countless lives. Just how many will never be known.

From the Los Angeles Times:
You may have thought as a regular American citizen you were capable of marking the upcoming 10th anniversary of the deadly 9/11 attacks in your own quiet, sad way as you and your family choose.
However, in its infinite federal wisdom and one-size-fits-all philosophy, the Obama White House has drafted a set of detailed orders for how it wants the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks observed, both at home and abroad.
We’re not kidding.
After weeks of quiet internal planning, two sets of guidelines were dispatched by the Democratic administration, one for American representatives to use abroad and another to all federal agencies at home.

(The Hill) — The U.S. hasn’t learned much in the 10 years since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) argued Tuesday. Paul, the libertarian-minded Republican presidential candidate, voiced criticism of U.S. foreign policy just days before the tenth anniversary of the coordinated terrorist attacks that resulted in almost 3,000 deaths. (Moonbattery)…Last year the New York Slimes did a puff piece on left-wing propagandist Christiane Amanpour (formerly of CNN, now ABC), which included photos of her home. Recognize the oversized picture that dominates her favorite room? She says it’s her favorite item in the apartment, because “It gives me joy every time I walk in my door.”
