Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000).”

Many people don’t know her as a Screenwriter and Musical Director. Many of the movie roles she is known for, she effectively wrote. Many of the musical arrangements and adaptations also came from her. Look at the credits …
She was both astonishingly prolific, with a truly enormous musical catalog, but also highly technically skilled.
She was a major talent. She wrote the best songs. I never liked her quivering voice. Her writing songs were the best.
The thing that set me off was the fact that she called us Stupid that we never took the Jab. The first thing, she was best friends with JANE FONDA !
I cannot wrap my head around a lady, like her that was a friend with a woman who should have been hung for Treason. My friend lost her husband in Vietnam. I lost a Boyfriend.
I know that she probably had a ton of Vietnam Vets who loved her.

Whitney Houston may have sung it better and made the song more famous(The Bodyguard), but Dolly wrote the song and sang it with much more emotion and heart! Pure genius!
I always liked Dolly’s version better than Whitney’s.
To me, Dolly’s was less commercial and more heartfelt, while Whitney put more “big stage” dramatic flair into her performance.
Both interpretations were very good, but were targeted towards different audiences.

He concludes the message with a short recollection of a conversation he had with his aunt. She wanted to be buried in cotton, because cotton is soft, and after decades in rhinestones she wanted to finally be comfortable.
Very sad news 🙁 Dolly Parton was a beautiful soul who cared deeply about her community. Her charitable works, her humanity and grace are a huge loss to us all. Thankfully, she left many blessings, for us to continue to enjoy, with her many songs and places she created out of love.
One of my favorite songs of hers is “Jolene” and the back story is that a beautiful bank teller was making eyes at her new husband LOL! So many others…

On a hiking trip in Turkey a number of years ago, and it seemed every cafe and road stop was playing “I will always love you” – except it was Whitney Houston’s rendition, but Dolly’s song writing had gone global and deep well into the Muslim world too. RIP – true success is happiness with one’s self, and yours was truly infectious.

We have lost another great song writer and musician that cannot be replaced.
Coat of many colors was and still is one of my favorites. Having grown in a single parent home due to the death of my father at 3, the song spoke to me issues I had as a child.

We are just devastated here in Sevier County. Think of what you know of Dolly and times it by 100 bc she’s done more for this part of tn than people will ever know. She’s everywhere here, job creator and generous giver. Most know her from hotels and amusement parks but we all know her by her heart.

I shared several tours with Miss Dolly. (She called me “Skippy-do”, as in Skippy do this! Skippy do that!)
She was as lovely in person, as she was in public.
Her monitor engineer pulled me over one time to inform me….
He said “Skip, you know that Dolly has microphones installed in every one of her wigs, and she often forgets that I can hear every word she says. Do you know that she prays for your happiness? She prays for the happiness of everyone on this crew. Not let’s make a lot of money. Not let’s have a good show. She prays for the happiness of her crew”.
She was the nicest, and most humble person you could hope to meet.
I was Blessed to have been even a pixel in an asterisk, in a foot note of her life.

I’m a total Connie Smith apologist. But I enjoyed a lot of Dolly’s music too.
Dolly, sad to say, fell under the sway of Hollywood and that took something from her.
People overlook her early songs …. here are a few.
“Joshua” is Dolly at her fun kind side.
“Mule Skinner Blues” with the yodeling and whips and rewriting of lyrics to suit her style, along with the driving accompaniment of the Wagon Masters band was epic.
“Bargain Store” she compares her heart and figure to used merchandise that could satisfy someone kind. Good tune and excellent storytelling.
“Jolene” first burst thru my car speakers when I was rolling thru Sepulveda Pass. Incredible song.
“Coat of Many Colors” was autobiographical and had a great message. There is no shame in having little money. There is only sorrow if you are unloved.
She wrote “Down From Dover” — a song that assayed a young woman being discarded by the guy who got her pregnant and left her. Nancy Sinatra recorded this also, and really interpreted it well.
Like the Statler Brothers’ “Angel in Hell in New York City” or Donna Fargo’s version of “Manhattan, Kansas.”
“Love Is Like A Butterfly” was pretty and had a pretty arrangement to go with it.
She wrote “Kentucky Gambler” for Merle Haggard and did a fine job with it herself.
“Run That By Me One More Time” was a humorous take on lying in marriage. Porter was great on it too.
And she did other people’s songs and made them good all over again. “Last Thing on My Mind” and “Morning Dew” with Porter, and “In the Ghetto,” for instance.

I will allways cherish her memories together with another icon Sylvester Stallone in “Rhinestone Cowboy”.., a highly underrated movie imho. saw Dolly first on the Porter Waggoner show. Their laughter and bubbly attitude was a pleasant time. Her singing though shook when she sang. She lost that later but each time I saw her I remembered. She was a good, decent person.
