And the recipient eviscerates Cruz’s campaign claim claim in an article via the New Yorker.

One of the targeted voters of Ted Cruz’s campaign shaming letters is a political scientist in Iowa.  He was none to happy with the message, or the data of himself and his neighbors.

That information is maintained by the secretary of state, which licenses it to campaigns, super PACs, polling firms, and any other entity that might want it. The final poll from Iowa, traditionally called the “first-in-the-nation-poll”, by the Des Moines Register and Bloomberg has been released (full pdf below).  Here’s the GOP result with only two days left before caucus night:

The relationship between the Trump campaign and the Des Moines Register (DMR) is well documented.  Throughout the GOP primary the DMR has been antagonistic to the Trump Campaign, and DMR reporters have even been identified data-mining Trump donors and sending out messages ridiculing them.

The DMR editorial board has endorsed Marco Rubio and Hillary Clinton and positioned their advocacy in opposition to all other candidates.  So it might not come as a surprise to find out the Des Moines Register had a sponsored poll presented on their website for visitors that removes the option to vote for Donald Trump.  See Screenshot:
