“Disparate Impact” ?

BUFFALO New York – Last month, News 4 Investigates told you about Bennett teachers who had come forward asking for help because they felt unsafe. They had even appealed to the school board saying conditions had become chaotic with students fighting and roaming the halls.

Now this vivid video describes just what they were talking about.

Coady, a district teacher for 30 years who’s been at Bennett for nine years, was among the teachers who talked to News 4 about his concerns.

Now he speaks exclusively to News 4 Investigates to describe the April 28 incident and why he jumped in to stop a fight between two female students. (more…)

You’ve probably heard this story by now.   Mr. William Baer was handcuffed and escorted out of a board meeting Monday night after expressing concern about a required reading book given to his 14-year-old daughter.

Louisiana – After a concerned mother called 911 fearing her son was choking, an EMS worker proceeded to conduct an inspection of her house on the premise that she homeschooled, telling the woman “we’re agents of the state”.

If all the raindrops where lemon drops and gum drops oh what a world it would be…. Hey, it’s Wisconsin – what do you expect. 
WISCONSIN – A Wisconsin high school is defying state law by removing “God” from the Pledge of Allegiance.
Instead of saying, “One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” Madison East High School has students say, “One nation under peace, with liberty and justice for all,” according to RedState.
For years, atheists have railed over including God in the pledge, and the courts have consistently ruled against them. This time, a courageous sophomore, Samantha Murphy, told her family that her school ignored state law and did not recite the Pledge of Allegiance at all, RedState reported.
When her parents raised the issue with school Principal Mary Kelley and the School Board, school officials dithered for months before reluctantly agreeing to follow the law – but only to a point. (more…)

SOUTH HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Two Long Island high school students have been suspended for allegedly bringing a Confederate flag to school.
Brother Gary Cregan, principal of St. Anthony’s High School in South Huntington, said the two seniors walked in with a Confederate flag draped around their shoulders during an after-hours sporting event at the school.
As CBS 2′s Kathryn Brown reported, there is outrage and disgust on Long Island.

“The African-American students who immediately saw it really exercised heroic restraint and fortunately a teacher immediately confiscated the flag and took the students out of the gym,” Cregan said.

(FOX Kansas City)  Two teens are being held in juvenile detention after a hearing took place Friday morning, stemming from charges of rape and sodomy which were filed against them.

A 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl have been charged with one count of rape and one count of sodomy. Those charges were filed against them on Wednesday April 2 by the Juvenile Officer of Jackson County, after allegations they were involved in the rape of a fellow classmate.
A 14-year-old autistic girl said she was raped on multiple occasions in the past month at Southwest Early College Campus. The girl was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital on Wednesday after telling her parents that she was experiencing pain in her vagina and had been raped at school. (more…)

SACRAMENTO – Officials at Sacramento Unified School District need to remind themselves that public schools belong to the public, and the public has a right to express itself about education issues.
Katherine Duran is the mother of a student at Sacramento’s Mark Twain Elementary, and one of many parents with deep concerns about the school’s scheduled transformation to Common Core math and English standards in the fall.
As a form of protest, Duran printed out a bunch of forms for parents, which they can sign if they want to have their children opted out of Common Core testing.
She gave the forms to her son, Christopher Duran, who handed them to other students to take home to their parents. (more…)

MARION, N.Y. – The controversy surrounding the new Common Core-aligned standardized tests is causing some New York school leaders to act as childish and immature as the students they are supposed to be leading.
13WHAM.com reports at least 16 school districts in the Empire State have implemented a “sit and stare” policy for students who’ve been opted-out of the state assessments by their parents.
Such students “will have to sit at their desks without any other reading or testing materials, while all the students around them take the 60- to 90-minute exams,” the news site reports.
It’s not difficult to read between the lines here. The “sit and stare” policy is a way petty and vindictive school principals and superintendents can get back at parents who are pushing back against the Common Core experiment. (more…)

But, but, but…. it’s always for the children right ?

PENNSYLVANIA – Teachers who are upset with union contract negotiations in the Abington Heights School District are taking their frustrations out on students by refusing to write letters of recommendation.
The selfish move, which is a common pressure tactic among education labor unions, will undoubtedly impact the ability of students to apply to college or other post secondary programs, although district officials contend they’re working to address the issue, the Times-Tribune reports.
Union president James Maria told the new site teachers in the district aren’t required to write students recommendation letters, and they don’t plan to until the school board reconsiders its position on retroactive pay. School and union officials have been in negotiations for a new teachers union contract since the last one expired in 2011. (more…)
