The Baltic States (yes, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) have profoundly negative memories of their post-WWII experience under the iron fist of the USSR. (Is anyone here old enough to remember Captive Nations Week?) So they are still understandably paranoid about Russia. Once the USSR went the trip, they even (to the horror of “human rights” advocates) expelled many families who themselves or whose relatively recent forebears had been planted there by the USSR. What they do need is reassurance and an understanding of their quite recent history.
.. and the Russians have profound memories of the NAZIS Friekorps operations in these very same Baltic States after WWI.
The Russians also have a profound memory and knowledge of history dating back to the 1700’s … for ALL the one-way traffick by Sweden, Prussia, France,Germany and NATO through the Baltic States to destroy Russia.

In most parts of Europe there are centuries old bad blood between neighbours. (The 20th century WW1-2 treaties made a lot of things even worse in this regard.)
There are very few countries who were able to overcome it or have actually “good memories and connections” with each other.
In recent years quite a few of them have deteriorated even.
What is actually the major cause of concern regarding the EU leaderships warmongering messages is the total lack of reality.
They would lose any kind of war they enter. Without nukes.
Simply because their armies and soldiers do not have a stable country to support them.
Almost every western EU nation (and some of the northern ones like Sweden and Norway) have at least a 5% muslim migrant population. Most have more. If we consider the illegals as well, i would say that for instance in France this ratio is higher than 10%, more likely sitting closer to 15%.
They are also overwhelmingly among the younger generation.
Teens and in their twenties. And males.
The moment an EU country sends its army away, it can now face the risk of an insurrection, coup, riot, basicly any form of disruption of government and state. And quite literally the fall of the State.
If you add to it that there are other immigrants there as well who might be possibly hostile towards the country depending on the war, this ratio climbs higher. (For instance if there was a war with Russia, pretty sure quite a few of the chinese immigrants would be working with China’s security services. If the US and Canada have issues with chinese spies i wonder how bad the situation is in the EU.)
This is also a major divide between the western and eastern part of the EU. West from Austria and Germany, there is almost no mentionable muslim population. (Former Warsaw Pact and Yugoslavia members.)
So a war with Russia would rely on them heavily, because they have a stable home country.
And since they are also closer to Russia they would bear the blunt of the war.
Their already homogenous native population would take a direct hit.

They could actually ask to join the Russian Federation as a member.

If we want to make an easy to understand comparision in US terms this would be like if all the muslims in the USA suddenly get up and all of them move to Oregon. Oregon has a population of ~4,3 million. The estimated population of muslims in the USA is 4,6 million. But i would say this is an optimist estimation and there are likely more of them. Let us just assume 4 million muslims move to Oregon.
They all have voting rights, since they are citizens of the USA. Technically they could enact Sharia law in the State.
