More “protests” that look like riots broke out today in several regions throughout Europe as the socialists and communists take advantage of the street antagonisms and looting opportunists.
Areas throughout France, Albania, Spain and Italy are seeing some of the most consequential street battles with police and rioters. CBS reported a few hours ago that more than 1,000 people have been arrested in France so far today.
FRANCE – Nearly 1,000 people were arrested in nationwide protests in France, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said Saturday, after demonstrations over the high cost of living and the country’s education system earlier in the day remained largely peaceful.
Nuñez said the number of arrests is expected to rise significantly. He said marches “passed off well” in cities, but police officers found themselves confronted with “an extremely elevated level of violence” from “ultra-left” groups later in the day. Nuñez said some shops and businesses had been looted, but “the scale was far smaller” than a week earlier, when some 3,000 businesses were damaged or looted.
He said police acted more rapidly and conducted more pre-demonstration checks. Businesses and shopping centers had also been better protected. Earlier Saturday, the interior minister said police had confiscated weapons including metal balls, lead pellets, fireworks, slingshots, steel balls, improvised weapons, a katana and airsoft weapons, he said.
The French Interior Ministry said about 410,000 people participated in about 298 protests around the country. Union organizers from the General Confederation of Labor put the number at around 800,000. An explanation for the discrepancy was not immediately available. (read more)

Tehran, Iran. In this historic photograph, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini is seen descending the steps of an Air France aircraft, accompanied by a member of the French flight crew. At first glance, it appears to be an ordinary moment marking the return of a political exile to his homeland.
But behind this image lies an event that would forever change the fate of Iran and millions of its citizens.
What role did France play in these events? In October 1978, France allowed Khomeini to reside on its territory. After spending many years in exile, primarily in Iraq, he settled in Neauphle-le-Château, near Paris.
France became his final refuge before the revolution, effectively providing him with a safe base from which to conduct his political activities.
While in France, Khomeini freely communicated with international journalists, received supporters, gave interviews, and distributed revolutionary messages to Iran.
Thanks to extensive international media coverage, his influence and global recognition grew significantly.
From a French suburb, he coordinated political activities directed against the Shah’s government.
On January 16, 1979, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi left Iran amid massive protests and a deep political crisis.
On February 1, 1979, Khomeini returned to Tehran after more than 14 years in exile.
His return was made possible, in part, by France.
Khomeini’s representatives chartered an aircraft from the French airline Air France, which transported him from Paris to Iran. He was accompanied by his associates and numerous journalists.
This photograph captures that very historic moment.
On February 11, 1979, the Iranian monarchy finally collapsed.
On April 1, 1979, the Islamic Republic of Iran was officially proclaimed.
Under the Shah, despite the authoritarian nature of the monarchy, Iran had undergone extensive modernization and maintained secular elements within its system of government.
Following the revolution, the country came under religious leadership.
Strict religious restrictions were subsequently imposed, women’s rights were severely curtailed, and repression against political opposition began.
Thousands of people faced persecution, imprisonment, and executions.
France welcomed Khomeini, allowed him to conduct political activities from its territory, and became the departure point for his triumphant return to Iran aboard a French aircraft.
Today, nearly half a century later, amid growing tensions within French society, one can’t help but wonder: Could what is happening in France today be a form of karma for the decisions made back in 1979?
