These AI “leaders” have dollar signs in their eyes as well as the celebrity adulation stars.
They have so much cash floating around their hubris will be their downfall.
They have ignored the people that got them to this point by restricting supply and causing GPU and memory prices to skyrocket to obscene levels.
The average Joe PC builder has been dissed and marginalized in their AI frenzy.
We won’t forget….
1. The A.I. people need money, and
2. They need to be absolved of their massive copyright infringements.
It’s all about the Benjamin’s and protecting the ones they will have.
Sounds a lot like the pharmaceutical industry. They need sick people to make money, and they also need a legal liability shield for killing people.. er. rather for depopulating, or un-aliving, in the name of planet sustainability.
And all we’re trying to do is survive and live life Judith and what they’ve done is made it harder and harder to avoid winding up dead from all they are doing.
How many people today just go to the doctors and wind up dead.
People are driving along and get killed by an illegal drunk driver.
You put your kids in school and the teachers steal their minds..
You go to buy groceries and look at the food supply.
They ended our landline phones and forced us to cell phones and now we’re surveilled by everything we own.
LOL, what a bleak situation and this is all the truth of the matter !!
The regular stuff of life is totally fraught with risk and yet supposedly we’re a highly safe and advanced society.
There’s gotta be a meme in this scene somehow.
Beware the planning for future drug users in your community. Vape shops and a legal marijuana business are growing by leaps and bounds. Convenience stores sell substances to our youth. The result eventually leads to drug use & trafficking and those who slip down into drug darkness often are victims when they try to clean up their lives. Just think about how many will need lawyers and judges and don’t even count the social workers and parole officers. The old saying is that once you enter the legal system, you will pay hell ever getting out of their grip. The sheriff is the most powerful person in a district and the income from the drug business spills over to support law enforcement, lawyers, and others. It tears families apart and has children being raised with an absentee father. This is no different from the pharma industry and our continued need for meds that don’t cure cancer and yet, they are prescribed without a second thought. It is sad to watch a person struggle to get into a better way of life and it almost never happens. People get paid to set become snitches and once that set up of an arrest gets made, it is rarely turned over. The victim is in for life. NO one cares, therefore, there is no solution. Prisons abound in this country for a reason and it ain’t pretty.
My brother who was as clean as any upright citizen and yet, he spend six years and $30,000 to get out of a mess that didn’t involve drugs, but did involve two mean boys who attacked his farm and he and his wife with gun shots for a third time. Folks were paid to lie and his lawyer from out of town had to walk a thin line or he would not be able to do business in our small town. My brother died of heart disease made worse over six years of legal anguish. The boys had family members that worked at a nearby prison and who knew how to influence the local sheriff etc. Sad world….we just think we are free.
Given opportunity with the restrictions of available hardware someone is going to get creative and write code for more efficient AI that can run on less complex hardware and still be good enough to be useful even on distributed systems.
Hyperscalers will be disappointed if that happens.
That would be the Chinese with their open source models. You get 90% of the performance of these frontier labs at 10% of the cost. It’s called DeepSeek.
What exactly are you going to do to stop Mark Zuckerberg from doing whatever he wants to do, wherever he wants to do it?
I disagree with the name “Super” intelligence. Artificial intelligence reminds people that these are just machines. I don’t even like the “intelligence” part either. Gullible ignorant people will be susceptible to fear mongering about them.
The only hardware company in the meeting was NVIDIA … interesting.
NVIDIA participates on both sides of the AI Technology issue.
The make the semiconductors that actually enable AI.
They write the machine code for the hardware that actually runs the AI Software.
They are an AI software developer.
The other semi-conductor companies and computer platform makers also need to be involved. It will be a strategic disaster of epic proportions if they are not brought in early with major roles.
The hardware developers could have a big role in “controlling” AI and even more important they have a major role as to which nations will actually be the leaders in battle for AI Dominance.
Micron Technology and AMD were also there. SpaceX and Tesla. Certainly Amazon has robotics and it’s own brand of GPUs as does Alphabet.
Interesting indeed. Retired Silicon Valley engineer here.Micron was one of the first developers for Video Ram chips back in the 90s. AMD used to build interface chips and bit sliced microprocessors. They also used to make the chips for Intel computers. We used AMD chips in our designs back in the 80s. Palo Alto Networks makes LAN networks among other things. So several hardware companies were there. Company turn over in SI has always been huge. These are the survivors.

Yep,… Good old AMD. On the Gulf Coast, we used to build/sell desk top computers in the 90’s using AMD processors, not Cyrius processors or Intel’s chips which cost far more than AMD.
With AMD processors, we sold our computers for one third the cost of IBM with Intel chips or Compac computers, and they performed better than the Intels on our bench test, under load. We built some computers for a PHD friend that worked for the US Navy on 3D sonar research that used duel processors,…. that did their job.
Grandson now works for Applied Materials in SV which has now entered a partnership with Micron to accelerate next‑generation memory technology development. Go long on Micron!

Maybe the disappearance of math is much akin to the disappearance of Latin.
I learned the old arithmetic. There is value in that because it makes you think how the answer was achieved. If someone asks me what is 10% of 132 I can answer immediately. Unfortunately, a lot of people reach for a smartphone to find the answer. Having confidence in your answer is key.
Years ago schools quit teaching cursive writing. The argument was everything is on computer now; so “keyboard class” was mandated. Our 30-something-year-olds cannot read cursive now. Our historical documents cannot be comprehended by these younger people. This is a tragedy. I’m sure some school will now include “cursive” writing as an elective course a high-schooler can take, like a foreign language. Good grief!
And not knowing Latin is a problem.
Given that we should be growing more food ourselves, if you grow plants, knowing Latin is extremely helpful, and the same can be said of medicine.
Just because they’ve decided we didn’t need to know Latin [or math], this doesn’t mean that it’s right.

SMRs have been powering submarines since 1955 (Nautilus) and later other naval surface ships, like aircraft carriers. I know plenty of people who served on nuclear naval vessels and they don’t glow in the dark. I think the safety situation has been well under control and remains so.

He said you have to have a fairly good grasp of tech itself to follow it all and he’s no techy, I dare say most of us could say the same thing.
We’re an uninformed electorate on this, and a wrongly informed electorate and yet look at what is happening.
