On one hand you have the AI frontier groups, developers who have stolen corporate secrets, extracted proprietary intellectual property, engaged in widespread copyright violations and built their AI models with mass unauthorized data collection. On the other hand, you have massive corporations, individuals and groups who have seen their intellectual property rights infringed by data harvesting to run the models.
The AI developers are requesting “regulation” which includes liability protection for outcomes as a result of users running their models. The investors into those AI developers also want regulation and liability immunity to protect their investments. This is the group now positioning for government regulation and selling the voices who control that decision (politicians) based on a pitch that includes government control over AI information. This is the group that will trigger the false flag to generate public support for AI safety.
The ordinary individuals & businesses who have seen their intellectual property stolen by the AI groups, the individuals who have watched their copyright protections violated, the corporations who benefit from increased AI efficiency but also see the downside from publicly exposed trade secrets now being widely available, would be the plaintiff group in a series of predictable lawsuits against the AI developers.

IMO: The AI scare is just another tactic/tool to manipulate the midterms. Any sane person will agree that AI, being a powerful new technology, needs to have guardrail safety. There has to be guards against theft of intellectual property for the enrichment and power grab of the oligarchs, alongside protection of personal data.
Bannon has been railing against AI for the last couple of years. Technology is a double edged sword. I remember when people thought computers were dangerous and would totally replace workers and humanity. Now they are part of everyday life and they are becoming smaller and smaller. There are always trade offs that have to be ethically managed.

The corporations should be urged to be transparent and work with everyone to come up with the guardrails like any other open source technology.
We’ve so far prevented even crude dirty bombs from being used so let’s make sure no “dirty” AI gets loose. Just like unsafe planes, trains, and automobiles, there will be failures. We can’t 100% prevent it. Nothing is perfect.
Our government should only regulate with a requirement of a clear identification of any AI product, and a requirement that the identification stay with the content or product. It must also require that anyone who uses or forwards the content or product keep the original identification and also clearly identify if there are any changes from the original. This is consumer protection, good for the developers if they have a good product, and good for us because we have transparency.
When I was a contractor in telecom and then IT, as an independent I had to self insure in case I messed up something or was held liable by the client.
