The 25th anniversary of the attacks on 9-11 present a day to reflect, remember and pay tribute to those we lost. I am sure most of us remember exactly where we were at the moment when we found out our nation was under attack. Our nation was forever changed by those moments on September 11th, 2001.

Perhaps we can share our memories together as we think about the anniversary of this date.
Where were you on that day? And what memories are most vivid for you?

So much was taken from us by our own government after that day that it is almost unfathomable to this day.
““Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”
And we fell for it, lock, stock and barrell. Or had it rammed down our throats.
Coffee & Covid. Healing At Last.
Excellent reading. I recommend you find time for this, especially today.
It was like pilling a dog – hide the unwanted within peanut butter or a piece of cheese, and it goes right down in most dogs without a thought. That’s what the Patriot Act was – a bitter pill wrapped in the flavor of patriotic response. Only a few of us caught it that it was too many thousands of pages long, and too comprehensive and detailed, to have been crafted within the time between 9/11 and its introduction to Congress.
Almost like…it was planned to be that way.
It was created well before 9/11–called PNAC (Project for a New American Century). The cover of the document actually had a depiction of a plane hitting one of the Twin Towers. Of course that drawing can’t be found on the internet now–it’s been scrubbed.
The Project for the New American Century (PNAC) was a neoconservative think tank founded in 1997 that advocated for increased U.S. military spending and a more assertive foreign policy, including regime change in Iraq. Its 2000 report “Rebuilding America’s Defenses” stated that major military transformation would likely require “some catastrophic and catalyzing event—like a new Pearl Harbor.”
Rammed down my throat.
Mine as well!
Our elected “representatives” and senators did that.
Rammed down by government force, no doubt, Along with the new branches of IC/security bureaucracy foisted upon the nation. In the years since have hyper skepticism of all things… a thorough disdain for the cultural Marxism and banality of “ entertainment” “news”, politics and “education”.
They are still taking from us, We are the most surveilled society in the world besides China… Chew on that for a moment. Our “leaders” ignore our will SAVE Act, they spy 702’s & FISA. We need to have more freedom. We need to break the Corny capitalism, they tech bros kissing this administration’s behind for money, Trump signed an immunity deal for the makers of Round up, we need hedge fund mangers to manage money not shape policy, private equity sucks and is ruining the American experience so rich mother truckers can make even more money.
We were on our way home from a termite inspection, called a friend, asked her what are y’all doing.
She said watching all these planes fly into the buildings.
All the people I was with and talked to on the phone are passed.
So, I thank GOD every day and ask him what can I o to glorify you Lord.
Praying for all and thank GOD for President Trump!
I was at home that morning. I didn’t know anything was happening until my wife called and told me to turn on the TV. At that time, both towers had been hit.
I watched as the first tower fell and I remember crying for the souls that were lost at that moment.
I also recall just how strange it was in the days after with no airplanes in the sky. I grew up by an airport and still live closed enough that they are a constant sight throughout the day.
My husband is from New Jersey and he used to work on the floor of th New York Stock Exchange as a clerk. He took the bids and offers from the brokers, on slips of paper, added them in his head and wrote it in the book for each stock. He worked in the trading booth directly with the Specialist who put the trades together. This was all before computers and the floor of the exchange was full of people. Your word was your bond and the clerk had the paper. Anyway, he used to travel under the Towers from New Jersey to work because he took the path train into New York everyday. He used to pass the Old Trinity Church as he walked to Broad Street.
But, we were in California when the attack occurred. I had gotten up and just turned on the tv. They were saying the airports were closed across the country. I had no context. I got him up and we watched the Towers fall. Some of. path trains were buried. It still seems so hard to believe after all these years.
Was working at a client’s office adjacent to the DFW airport. Had no TV in office and this was before smartphones. Co-worker came in and told us about the twin towers. We stopped working and went outside in the parking lot and there were no planes landing or taking off from DFW airport. It was eerie the immediate area was totally quiet. The silence was like one of those apocalyptic end of world movies. The client manager came in made the announcement and told everyone to go home for the day. Co-workers and I went to a local restaurant. While there we sat next to a table that had the crew of a Delta plane. They were headed from Atlanta to LA but had to land at DFW due to the twin towers. Driving home on I-695 the traffic was extremely lite. Didn’t see the pictures until home and turned on TV. The silence of the airport and surrounding area is what comes to mind during this solemn time.

I-695 in DFW?
Just wish there was a way to upvote every single comment on this thread, because anyone who posted – whether one line or paragraphs of text – had to dig down in places we generally don’t want to go, and dredge up feelings we generally shove down because they are so painful. So here is my upvote to everyone posting, to everyone who REMEMBERS.
Extra points to those who refuse to buy into the established narrative.
Blessings to you, Fionnagh!
Amen to that, Fionnagh.
I don’t buy into it for one second. Just like I will never buy into the “official” Warren Report following JFK’s assassination.
I feel the same way about a lot of things.
Pray unceasingly
I was in my Midtown Manhattan office, early in the morning as usual. I heard the first plane fly low over my office, seemingly right down Park Avenue. I remarked to a colleague that I’d never heard a plane so loud, and it didn’t occur to me until later why that plane was so low.
On a local train out of Grand Central later that day, there were people covered in dust sitting by me. We were all quiet with our own thoughts. But I’ll never forget the sight of American flags flying everywhere as we slowly made our way back to our stations. Never before had I seen such a thing. What a terrible way to stoke patriotism in our fellow Americans.
Sitting next to the people covered in dust…that had to be an experience…I cannot find the right words…
And more flags on 9/12…
Churches were full at noon.
I was in my classroom at an elementary school in Western Kansas. I was teaching 5 kindergartners with special needs when the tragedy happened. An aide in the adjoining classroom was on her break and she slightly opened my classroom door and whispered that something terrible had happened. I wasn’t able to get any further information until lunchtime.
I just saw a quote regarding September 11th that I am going to keep close at hand, for the next time that a 30=something Leftist scolds me for being Islamaphobic for believing that the importation of millions of people who hate us, and who have pledged to “take over” America is actually a problem…
“There is a collective sense among many of us that this isn’t happening the way that it should. It’s not just that younger Americans don’t share the same visceral emotions about 9/11.
It’s that too many haven’t grasped its lessons: about the reality of evil, the meaning of heroism – and the contrast between a worldview that produces hijackers and one that produces firefighters running up the stairs of the South Tower..”

If talking heads are correct, 100 million Americans, were not yet born. And have been ‘protected’ by ‘helicopter moms’.
They know nothing of truly being attacked, harmed or lied to…
They know nothing about history, true history. Not this sanitized, liberal, woke bullshit being pushed on our students for over 20 years now. Teach your young people the truth of history, no matter how ugly it may be. Teach them the truth about radical Islam, marxism communism and liberalism before someone else brainwashes them with their warped version.
The people that teach the young people need to know the truth before they can teach the truth.
25 years and countless thousands of fully indoctrinated loons have been shoved out of our high schools, colleges and universities that hate America. That’s why we’re seeing what we’re seeing.
All I want for Christmas is the truth to be told about what transpired on 9/11.
I hate to burst your bubble but we may never know the real truth about what really happened or how it happened on 9/11.
Perhaps not now, but at the end of “this” world. All will be revealed.
According to Ilan Omar, “some people did something”. /s
Sometimes in Life you are faced with choices through no fault of your own that you know you will not survive. The folks on UA 93 decided to fight and the plane went straight into the ground in a field saving a valuable target from destruction.
The folks on the Upper Floors of the WTC knew their lives were over. Some folks don’t like the term “jumper”. It is a little coarse but that was the choice Evil gave them. They were dead. The jumpers chose how they were going to go and made a statement for the world to see the Evil that was loosed on them. One of them was head first a leg bent at the knee seemingly at peace. Making a statement that you may have killed me and my friends but I will show you what dignity truly is. For me Jumper is honorific.
That was the hardest part for me that day. And I still can’t bear it.
I was on the floor doing yoga, and I noticed Kelly Rippa crying, the TV was on mute, then I saw the second plane hit the other tower. I will never get those images out of my head. I was living in NFL at the time and most of the diverted planes landed in Gander, to this day many have strong bonds and friendships with the Americans that they housed and befriended.
There is an hour long special about the planes and air traffic controllers who worked so hard to land them all at Gander. It will probably air on tv some time today. I had no idea until I watched that show a few years ago that so many planes were forced to land there. The ATC did an unbelievable job.
It happened. My Parents landed there. Thank you They had nothing but praise for how kind and generous all of you were .
Thank you.
If you were born when I was, you probably remember at least three life-altering events. I remember JFK’s assassination and, two days later, watching Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald—an event that, as it turned out, would have a profound effect on my life.
Twenty-three years later, on a bitterly cold day, I was pumping gas and listening to the radio when the Challenger exploded. A man came running out of the station shouting, “The Challenger just exploded!” “Yes, I know,” I said. “I heard it.”
On September 11, 2001, I was in my home office, dressed in a suit and tie—for what turned out to be the last time in my business career—preparing to catch a flight to Chicago. Why I was going, I have no idea. I remember the suit, the tie and the destination, but none of the mundane details.
I walked into the kitchen, where my bride of 24 years was puttering around. I kissed her, muttered something about when my return flight was supposedly due—O’Hare was always a crapshoot—and glanced at the television across the room.
She had the *Today* show on, I think. Don’t hold me to that. We hadn’t yet learned to loathe the media, so it was simply background noise in the kitchen that morning. The first tower had been hit. I asked what was happening, and she said something like, “I think a small plane hit the World Trade Center.” “That doesn’t seem likely,” I said. “There are strict rules about aircraft over Manhattan.” At that precise moment, the second plane hit. “That’s no accident,” I blurted out.
We went into the TV room, turned on the set and watched the horror unfold. After a while, I wondered whether anyone at the office knew. This was before smartphones, so no one was being deluged with texts and alerts. I opened our instant-messaging app and saw that my boss was online. I told him what had happened. He thanked me and disconnected.
A minute later, he messaged back. A crowd had gathered in the classroom and turned on the television, but they couldn’t get any sound. I asked what channel they were watching, tuned my office TV to the same station and spent the next several hours providing running commentary by instant message to the people in that room.
Two of my teammates were in St. Louis on a customer call that day. With air travel shut down, they drove their rental car back to New England, spending a night at our boss’s house in the Indianapolis area along the way. They were luckier than some. One of my clients was in Mumbai and had been scheduled to fly home the next day. He was stranded there for two weeks. Another acquaintance was stuck in Crete for nine days.
I never made that trip to Chicago. In fact, as far as I can remember, I never went there again. All of us were far luckier than those caught in the events themselves.
Just a horrific time. My mother was dying and I couldn’t talk to her about that horrible day.
Just disbelief and shock. I raced to my son’s school and grabbed him up and went home and kept the TV on all day. The images of the people jumping still haunt me.
I agree ….. Disbelief and shock. We live out in the country and were told NOT to come to the school. Our kids rode home on the bus. What a time that was waiting!!!
In memorium; Brian “Moose” Sweeney, a fellow RIO in VF-211. For me the shock really arrived a couple of days later when I saw he was on the second plane.
I was visiting my Mom on an island in Florida when her friend called and said to turn on the tv, one of the twin towers was hit. We turned it on to the shocking scene and then watched the second plane hit the second tower. It was shocking. Then all air traffic in the country was instructed to land at the nearest airport and all flights in airports grounded from taking off. It was shocking to see the buildings collapse and watch the pure horror of New Yorkers scrambling for their lives. Each September 11th takes me back to that horrific day. Our country and all who wwitnessed it were never the same.
Heroic flight attendant Betty Ong spent her final moments on Flight 11 warning America. Her call provided the first alert and seat numbers crucial to identifying the terrorists. We must never forget her bravery.

My memory goes back a little more. In 1996 I returned from living in Saudi Arabia for 6 years. When leaving, OBL had provided CNN a video of a western residential compound threatening to kill all westerners. That compound was where my family lived. We were apprehensive coming back with those threats floating around. 5 years later OBLs threats were carried out against America.
my. Take away from living in KSA, Iran is just part of the ROP overall threat.
Sure wish I knew what all your acronyms mean. Except for “CNN”, I have no idea about what you are talking.
OBL = Osama Bin Laden
KSA = Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
ROP = ?
ROP = Religion of Peace.
Was at work as a member of the 552d Air Control Wing (AWACS) in Oklahoma City, saw live on TV as the 2nd tower was hit, and we began forming air crews to launch jets to regain control of America’s skies. A friend from a prior AF assignment was leading the NORAD air defense command and control mission for the east coast and they were doing all they could with minimal armed air defense resources to locate aircraft and defend critical locations. Of note, our NATO AWACS partners (US and NATO ally aircrew) did journey to the US to help patrol America’s skies in the days following. God Bless America, and commies/jihadis suck.
I was working on King William St in London, the only American in an international trading group, mostly Brits, but a great bunch. They killed the trading feeds on the monitors after the first plane hit to run the news feeds so we could all stay abreast. Later that day, Queen Elizabeth ordered the Star-Spangled Banner played at the Palace’s changing of the guard, the first and only time that’s happened. Three days later, London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral held a memorial service attended by 2600 people. We were in the thousands in the street outside the Cathedral praying. Say what you will about today’s UK government (every bit is deserved), on that day the UK stood steadfast behind us.
I was in Gladys McGeary’s medical office library reading through a (tiny, about 5″x7″) Physician’s Desk Reference from the year I was born, looking up the drugs my Mother would have been given during labor & childbirth; I was immersed in the existential search for ‘what happened to me’. Scopalomine.; aka
“Devil’s Breath”.
Perfectly metaphoric.
I was oblivious until later, when one of the staff came & sat at the table with me & asked me what I thought; I had to ask what happened. We’d lived 8 years (USAF) in Europe and were back in the US 3 years & a bit – my first thought was
“US has been a bully worldwide and this is payback.”
From my experience, we Americans were not well liked in the last European country we lived in – Americans were consistently targeted – bomb threats on tour group plans, etc. so stern restrictions on our movements as individuals ‘out on the economy’ for safety’s sake… little things like that. Our local friends, who didn’t hate us/US and were very kind & lovely to know, gave us insight to the general attitude of the haters.
Hindsight is 20/20.
POTUS 45-47 is now ending what the United States of America had been for almost all of the 20th c — the enforcement center/ war machine of the three (usurpers’) city states – City of London, Vatican, & DC/ Pentagon.
That’s why the entire world’s citizenry Loves Trump – they get it like we get it;
and why the usurpers running governments despise him.
⛑️ SPECIAL SEPTEMBER 11TH REMEMBRANCE MONOLOGUE ⛑️{ https://www.coffeeandcovid.com/p/healing-at-last-friday-september }
I did not make this greeting card (Kris from NY did), but I do have all the components & I think I will make one like it… I’ll just put my little personal twist on it & leave it to commemorate this quadranscentennial for posterity.

That morning. i had too much ‘visceral’:I wanted to run and then to punch!
That evening, husband and I sat on front lawn with a neighbor. Husband with a beer, neighbor with glass of wine. Neighbor across the street came over, I took a beer out to him. Next door fella, gave him a beer. Across the street = beer. They kept coming. All from our street. We just sat there, quiet. Tragic day, sweet moment of friendship.
My 9/11 story is actually about 9/10.
I was finishing a deliverable in my Rockville, Md office for my client in Anacostia DC. It was after 4 pm.
Do I wait until the morning and drop it off or go now and get it done?
Well I chose to drop it off on my way home.
My commute to the client took me around the West side of the DC Beltway and once across the Potomac onto the GW Parkway towards Washington.
There’s a shortcut to get back across the Potomac towards Anacostia.
It’s through the Pentagon parking lot. I’d done it many times before.
The next morning I was sitting at my desk in Rockville instead of making the delivery.
On 9/10 had an am flight out of Reagan, had a ride in from Louden county went around Pentagon on way into DC.
Next day called friend I was visiting to make he and his were OK.
Have a friend that at the time his office was in Atlanta, he had his own plane and flew from FL to Atlanta for years, knew the air traffic controllers thru voice.
He was telling me later that he thought something was strange that day for the lack of usual traffic and the sound in the controllers voices. They let him continue on his route, after landing he was informed of the situation.
He found out that he was the only one in the air on that route, other than military, in thinking back he realized what a dangerous scenario that was.
I was standing in a 7-Eleven buying a hotdog in Pompano Beach Florida on Dixie Highway watching the TV when all that happened!
Up north Michigan. At my parents. Moving back home, after retiring from the Air Force. Eating breakfast, watching the morning news, getting ready to head to Detroit. No one understood what was happening. Then saw the second plane hitting the building.
https://rumble.com/v7fcxqg-this-footage-was-shown-once-after-911-and-never-again.html
I remember this report.
Capistrano Beach Ca
I was greeted at my front door by a processor server informing me that I was being divorced. I walked into the family room to get my kids ready for school and there it was! I gathered my kids and went to straight to the beach.
I have never been able to describe the events of that day. I certainly question why it happened and who is to blame.
I was at work that morning when we were called to the TV room. It was unbelievable. The thing I remember most is feeling such distress at the fate of those innocent victims and anger at the perpetrators.
Islam has a long institutional memory. September 11 was not a convenient or arbitrarily chosen date. It is also the anniversary of the Ottoman Turks attack on Vienna in 1683. It was the opening assault in a planned Muslim conquest of Europe. To the great fortune of western civilization, the Ottomans were driven back from the city gates and defeated. The attack we remember today was planned with revenge for Vienna as one of its motives.
They like their ‘anniversaries’ and play the ‘long game’.
I wish we had built them back, taller, setting the tone forward.
I was working in Lyndehurst NJ on September 11th. Had gotten to work around 7:30 that morning as usual. Beautiful day – bright skies and a feeling of fall in the air. My office looked directly down into downtown Manhattan – about 10 miles away.
I was working on my computer with my back to the window and did not see the first plane hit. One of my employees came in to apologize for being late and asked if I had seen what was going on outside my window. When I saw the smoke pouring out of the north tower I called BS in the commuter plane theory – looked like a gaping hole more akin to a jetliner. A number of my colleagues came in to my office and were discussing the happenings outside while listening to the news. I swa the 2nd place coming in from the west and pointed it out to the team – we watched as it flew into the south tower – came in low and very fast – will remember that fireball for as long as I live.
At that point everyone knew we were under attack. I called 911 and was hooked up to the Hackensack police department. Think I was one of the first calls they received. I asked them to contact the military and they said they had no way of contacting them. They gave me the local FBI number (was out on Long Island) and I called and left a message on their voicemail. We had a number of vets in our office who were getting called up to go home to get ready – rest of the day (besides watching the towers fall later in the morning) we spent getting rental cars for our vets to drive home for duty.
When I headed home that afternoon, Route 17 in NJ was crammed with onlookers parked on the side watching what was going on. Fighter jets were in the air and constantly circling (as they would be for the next couple of weeks. The air reeked of burnt electrical equipment and downtown Manhattan was a smoldering pile.
I stopped to give blood on my way home – shame there was no one to give it to.
Manhattan smoldered for quite a while and that smell lingered for weeks.I will never forget.
I was sleeping in my Barracks room. Duty woke up the whole Company and we fell out to the rec roomwithin moments o the second tower being hit. You could have heard a pin drop in that room full of Marine Infantrymen. We heard the reports about the Pentagon being hit and we watched the two towers fall. Within an hour, we had organized and packed our gear and set it up for pickup, we didn’t know what to do or where to go, but we were ready to go. ALL military bases were locked down – nothing in or out and it took our Commanding Officer over 14 hours to get on base to be with us.
When you make 200 Marines silent, you know it is a serious event. The somber witnesses turned into raging Infantry BEGGING to be the tip of spear of vengeance, ready in a moments notice. The feelings do not lessen with time, they only grow stronger seeing the next generation embrace the ideology that carried out the terrible terrorist attack.

Longtime follower of CTH, posted once or twice so far, due to certain work related and personal social media restrictions.
Working paramedic for a certain very large municipal emergency services agency in NYC. A lifelong New Yorker, living in Brooklyn, steps from where the battle of Brooklyn took place, recently commemorated.
Here’s what I feel comfortable sharing:
I worked the night before, and expected to go out to vote that morning, only to find out from a stranger in my building that the WTC was hit by a plane. Seeing first hand the North tower on fire from the roof of my building, I called my lieutenant and started running back to my station, getting picked up by a firefighter who just so happened to be driving by and saw me still in my uniform. He took me as far as he could and dropped me off on the street as he was rushing to his firehouse nearby. After finally getting there and waiting the whole morning and part of the afternoon, we commandeered a city bus to take us EMTs and Paramedics and stationed at Stuyvesant HS, where a large triage center was hastily set up.
It was never used. We were told to just standby until further notice. Amid the smoke and chaos, the collapse of WTC only further exacerbated our nerves as it was literally right next to us. I stayed there until midnight with my coworkers, having done little or nothing, and then walked back exhausted to my apartment a few miles away. I worked morgue duty after that for about a week. I will tell you this: one body brought out to us was of a young lady, blonde, beautiful, petite, with her face frozen in a scream and her hand clenched in helplessness as she died. She still had a golden necklace around her neck.
I smelled the stench of the collapse for at least 6 months afterward from my apartment, where I still reside.
I will be diplomatic:
For those who have the temerity to scoff, such as we have seen recently in the media, I say Hebrews 9.27: “…it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this the judgement.” And to those who truly believe and serve the Lord Jesus Christ:
“Speak thou to Him, for He hears, and Spirit with spirit can meet.
Closer is He than breathing, and nearer than hands and feet.”
God bless you faithful and thank you CTH for letting me vent a little bit.
I just turned on the TV to watch the morning news on. I heard a plane had hit the north tower in the world trade center. I continued watching and saw the second plane hit the south tower live. My Marine had left for work at the Pentagon hours earlier. The next couple of hours were incredibly difficult as I waited, not knowing his status. Thankfully, he made it out safely. He and his fellow Marines have a lot of interesting stories from that day, and the hours that followed.
We’ve forgotten, with the election of Muslims Obama and Mamdani to authority positions over us.
We are still under attack.
I saw the news of the first plane on Drudge Report. At this time I was playing the organ for a scripture class at church in the afternoon and had to go practice. By the time I got back, the second plane had hit. Such an unreal time.
God rest their souls. They’ll never be forgotten.
Some other things to not forget:
-the $2.3 trillion that went missing from the Pentagon on 09.10.2001
-building 7
-the dancing israelis
-the “art students”
-Silverstein’s insurance policy
-the magic passports
Lots of coincidences that day.. .
Rudy and Mayor Mamdani chumming it up with each other today at the service in NYC. Mutual respect on an important day. Both were class acts.
So it begs the question – were Rudy’s attacks on him earlier this week just performative?
Pull it!
We were living in NJ at the time. My husband was on the board of the South Jersey Chefs Association. They immediately began planning to go to NYC to feed the first responders. They were on their way but were turned back because all roads into NYC were shut down. One of the member chefs was the father-in-law of the pilot of the plane that crashed in PA. So many people we knew lost someone that day.
I remember being up in north Jersey a few days later and seeing the smoke still rising across the river.
Those people jumping from the Trade Centers haunted my dreams for months.
I cannot reconcile a muslim communist being mayor of NYC. This must be the work of Satan.
We must NEVER FORGET!!
Home sick for the day pre CPAP machine. Was sick frequently.
Walking the dog and hear a large plane low over head.
Look up and I see a light colored 747 honking on at low altitude black smoke streaming from the engines! Pilot must have had it fire-walled to move that fast that low make that much smoke. I could almost count the rivets. A 16 was on each wing .
Inside I turn on TV to see if there is anything about this plane.
Turns out it was AF1
Popped tape in VCR and recorded all morning.
No I will never forget and I now know I will never know the truth.
Where were you that you saw the 747 ?
Roughly 30 mi from WPAFB.
I have tried to find flight Bush was on leaving from Texas. None of them would put AF1 directly over head.
On the other hand I grew up next to Old Wright Field in the 50’s and 60’s and as a boy crazy about flying (first flight at WF when I was 6 yrs young in a Piper Warrior) I spent most of my time looking at the sky 😉 Point is I spent a lot of time watching the busy skies about WPAFB and was well aware of the planes overhead. Loved the sonic booms and SAC scrambles.
How do I explain this? I don’t. I know what I saw and it’s burned deep in my memory banks.
Were I the paranoid type I would say the gvt is lying about AF1’s true location that day but naw the gvt doesn’t lie to us…
I was in Algebra class, Freshman year of highschool. First class of the day. Front row, second seat from the right. The geometry teacher poked his head in the door a whispered to the teacher that two airplanes had just flown into the World Trade Center… on purpose.
Where was I? At work in the toxins lab, when I got the excited request to come see the news flash breaking live.
The sinking feeling of seeing One of the Towers smoking, on fire, because of an airliner crashing into it. Bewilderment. How can a commercial jet simply fly into a skyscraper on accident like that?
Then, before my eyes, to see the second jet fly directly into the second Tower – I knew right then and there this was a planned event. Terrorism on our own soil. Over 200 people dying instantly, right before me, as I watched the impact.
It seemed so surreal. People, with no way out, thinking that the jump from 100 stories up, really wasn’t that far – that they could survive it. None who jumped did. Then, hours later, first one, then the other tower fell.
What did I feel? A deep-seated moral indignation against those responsible. I still feel that indignation today, because it is as plain as the nose on our faces that governmental agencies di indeed have American blood on their hands: they’ve allowed the politico-religious movement that did the work to take over the very city they perpetrated the act in.
Watched it in the UK after a colleague phoned home. Original chyron had ‘small plane hits WTC’, I saw the hole, thought that’s an airliner. Watched the second aircraft bank hard to hit the other tower, thought that’s deliberate. Watched thinking this can’t be really happening, but it was all too real.
Knew people whose lives were saved because of illnesses or slight variances in chronologies, and personally it was the beginning of my journey from the smug liberal leftosphere to conservatism.
26 years on and seeing the footage and pictures takes me right back.
I was at work…ground floor of NSA building in foreground below, near left corner.
We got word of the towers just after it happened. After plane hit Pentagon, everyone but critical 24/7 type personnel were sent home in case our place was targeted. Didn’t go back to work until Sep 13.
Once home, gathered in basement TV room of next door neighbor to watch and listen. Neighbor’s husband was in Denver on business. By end of day, he had rented a car and started drive home.
I was at work, and some of us went into a conference room to watch the news. The next day there were no planes in the sky. At that point we chose to leave the Midwest and head back to NH to be close to family.
The Patriot act passed without any of the jokers reading it, much like most legislation. So much for representation.
