Many in my father’s family went to Patterson Cooperative High School, Dayton, Ohio established in 1914 and worked part time in the industry for which they were training.
Later the school was gutted because everyone gotta go to kollege .

when my boys (born in mid 1970s ) were in HS, Bill Clinton was Pres. and Robert Reich was Sec Labor. Reich sent out “evaluation” tests for high schoolers to take in order to “slot” them into studies and jobs later on.
My hardest working and very smart son was slotted into non-college prep courses — which I immediately corrected. On graduation he aced Colorado School of Mines. My other equally smart son, but rebellious and not studious did not take it seriously and answered all the questions hoping for a low score. He was told the test indicated he should be a seasonal fruit picker. Reich was aiming for a Soviet style job market.

Manual instincts are amazing, if you have ever seen an illiterate craftsman at work. Watched 4th grade educated stone cutters build retaining walls out of blocks of sand stone -they knew exactly what to do, where to cut and how to fit pieces together. Sheer artistry.
It takes generations to aquire those skill sets. We are into the second or third generation of lost manufacturing skill sets. It will take a generation or more of a very supportive nation to get us even close to where we were once at.
If God becomes our god again, we may just see some real miracles happen. He is about the business of prospering those who follow after Him. I pray almost every day that there would be a real turning to Him. What good will it do us if we become great but we are not good again?

Yep, they learned to be craftsmen by working with…their FATHERS. They were craftsmen and passed their expertise on to their children. Do kids do the same today? No way. Today, if they survive without being aborted or being strung out on drugs like fentanyl, they have their nose stuck in smartphone. Many are expecting the government (i.e. the taxpayers) to pay their way in life. Many don’t know who their father is!
Artistry is LEARNED. It can only be learned by people WILLING to learn being taught by people who ARE craftsman themselves. When your “manual instinct” is to grab a smartphone and play a video game, don’t expect to know what to do, where to cut, or how to fit ANY pieces together.
Small, encouraging example of one man doing important giving: A local, retired Math teacher, at the yearly Hunters, WA. Fair, gives “hands-on” instruction to kids as young as 4yrs. … to build bird houses. Hand Saw, Drill, Hammer, are the tools used… a joy to see the youngsters “create” something (with a bit of assistance & guiding).
He has done this for dozens of years.
There are no kids who “cant read, write or do math.” There are only adults preventing them from achieving those things.

Yep! My grandmother left school in the 8th grade in TN to take care of her 2 younger siblings after her mom died & her dad had to work. She ran her own florist for 40 years. My husband’s grandfather in Kentucky never learned to read very well but ran the family farm with a house that began as a log cabin his whole life and mowed the grass on the side of the roads for the Kentucky DOT. My husband and I are just 2 generations from that and it makes us grateful for what we have today and were able to provide our children.
My Grandpa didn’t but he knew everything by the time I was born.

Yesterday on the radio I heard a story about a kid in school…can’t remember if it was grade school or high school. The student was asked what they knew about George Washington and only knew one thing: George Washington owned slaves.
If I had school age kids they’d be home schooled.

The challenge is the millions of people whose lives have been destroyed. They become the tools of the commies who destroyed their lives. They never blame the Democrat machine or the teachers. They buy into the victimhood narrative fed them by Barry and his team of Marxists. An example that should resonate is the model promoted by “Norm” one of Barry’s fellow travelers from Columbia. Destroy America through debt. Make the majority needy thus on the government’s welfare system. They will continue to vote in anyone who promises to fund their life style. Look no further than most large cities who have elected Socialists. The cities are havens for homelessness, drugs, and crime. But the votes are in the bag. More subsidized housing, more food stamps, and in many cases monthly cash. More are added to the disability roles. Some believe that Biden’s open border was for votes. I believe it was just another added burden by “old Norm” as billions more to fund free everything for the illegals. Schools, housing, and more.
AS we just crossed the Federal Debt of 40 trillion soon to be 50 and this doesn’t include long term commitments like social security and other programs. It doesn’t include the debts of the states.
I support the re development of our manufacturing base for our survival. It is a national defense issue. It cannot fix many of the problems created by the far left and their friends on the other side of the aisle.
There may still be enough who can do those things. The homeschooling movement has salvaged some of our children who are still excelling. We will see if it’s enough.
Onward and upward!! We need to return manufacturing jobs to the US rather than making it more advantageous for American companies to buy their goods and equipment from overseas countries, many of whom have publicly denounced our country, our Constitution and our citizenry.

I grew up in Fremont CA, Bay Area. We had Pacific States steel, GM, Ford and Dodge plants in San Jose, Peterbilt in Newark, Caterpillar in San Leandro. All gone. Not a single Big 3 auto plant in the Western states, no steel mills. Columbia River Washington had Aluminum production facilities, gone. CA and OR were major producers of timber harvesting and production. Gone!, at least some members of the GOP are attempting to bring it back. A nation can’t survive without an industrial base. It is salt of the earth and provides a common bond.

He is a Cabinet member in Trumps administration. i Did NOT take Calculus in High School – BUT my education served our Country and my Family Well in my 20 Years in the military by giving me a Skill Set to FIX Most Anything.
There weren’t any of those opportunities in the areas I attended school. It was a long time ago. I hope they are pushing those classes now.

I can remember entering high school in the mid-’60s and being surprised to learn that the school had absolutely no shop classes or anything of the technical sort.
Even as a very green, young adolescent, I thought, “who built this school? Who made the furniture? Put in the lighting and connected it to the power company?”
And then, a few years later, in a series of coincidences that seem fortuitous now at this late remove, I wound up spending four-plus decades in the trades anyway. Still not a single regret.
Without details being specified in the link, this does not sound like a mass training program. Rather, some leadership conferences being offered by the seven universities cited. There is nothing about eligibility requirements for those seminars or even the numbers involved..

Most of the training at that time was needed in the metal trades for shipbuilding, aircraft, and ordinance industries. Nearly 2000 public vocational schools convinced government officials that these schools were ready to respond to a national defense crisis. President Trump, in 2018, with daughter Ivanca, signed legislation (Perkins V) to strengthen vocational technical schools across the country. I hope that vocational schools will again be called upon to play a critical role in today’s workforce training crisis.
The real opportunity is for white Males age 18-45 who have been discriminated against and excluded from Job market and opportunity by the DEI and craziness that has infected country for 30+ yrs . Amazing amount of talent waiting for an opportunity to contribute and achieve what’s possible.
