As a matter of fact, they may be hoping for our bad reaction, condescending insults and derisions because they are targeting exactly at our kids, and grandkids, especially the ones at university, trying to get a job, struggling with student loans, fearful of war and economics, etc. They got a full dose of indoctrination in public schools, went thru Covid isolated, dealing with technology that is threatening them, facing more war and very volatile politics! Their experiences are nothing like ours, but it’s our flesh and blood to make right. I think they could use some consistent encouragement and somebody to listen, really listen, to their opinions without immediate judgment. Assuming the word “socialism” or “communism” means something bad like it does to us, may not be valid. Hubby and I went to the U.S.S.R. for our 10th wedding anniversary. We went there as democrats, and although socialist hadn’t been added to the party’s name (yet), it was not hard to see upon spending time in the Union of Soviet Socialists that the democrat party wanted to be just like them.
We didn’t see a grocery store at all. We saw open air stalls all over Moscow and Leningrad where food was sold. One a chicken stall. One an ice cream stall. One by one each sold a single product, and each had a line of people waiting to buy whatever was being sold.
When there was toilet paper it felt like the rough brown paper sometimes used as bathroom drying towels. Citizens could not buy a simple umbrella, and we were often asked to purchase things average citizens could not buy wherever we went. Even when we were able to shop, we had to stand in multiple lines for a single item. The first line was for someone to write up a purchase ticket. Then you had to go stand in a second line to pay for your item. It was a huge pain in every way.
We went there dems, we came home as Republicans, conservatives and big time capitalists.
