Things are going to escalate very quickly now as the midterm election looms closer and various interests start to take their lane against President Trump and the economic position of the United States. There are trillions at stake.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was asked about the latest Sec.338 tariffs levied by President Trump and USTR Jamieson Greer. Carney said he and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to intensify trade negotiations following a phone conversation earlier this morning.
While the phone call likely did contain that sentiment, USTR Greer was clear on CNBC today that Mark Carney is simply not telling the truth. The babble from the Canadian side is nothing of substance and just repeats the same nonsensical claims about agreeing to things that are not in conflict.
Speaking to reporters in Ottawa, Prime Minister Carney said both sides would step up discussions in the coming weeks despite Trump’s latest tariff threat against Canada. He added that all options remain on the table if the United States proceeds with new tariffs. WATCH:

If the President agrees with Greer that Carney is simply not telling the truth and is doing nothing but playing games, then there is one thing that would be certain to jolt Carney into reality and start taking things seriously, and that would be to invoke the 6-month withdrawal clause in the USMCA. I know SD said that, but a bilateral with either means USMCA itself is dead, so I don’t understand why the U.S. has to wait to trigger the 6-month withdrawal period. Surely the Mexican negotiations won’t extend beyond six months from now?
I don’t know that Sheinbaum isn’t also playing games. She just had her people file a lawsuit over the death of an illegal by an ICE agent earlier this month. I don’t see how Mexico can have standing in our courts for such a thing (maybe if the person was legally in the U.S., but not illegally). The moment I saw that news I thought it might be prompted by the trade negotiations more than anything else. After all, just the fact of the negotiations is causing manufacturers to leave Mexico for the U.S. and she might be wanting to get some more favorable conditions any way she can. But I don’t think we want either the Mexicans or Canadians to drag out the trade negotiations.
I think that day is fast approaching. However, as SD has pointed out, that depends on Mexico and on our ability to secure a bilateral agreement with them. But then, again, maybe it doesn’t. Maybe the Cartels joining forces and murdering more and more Mexican politicians recently will lead to POTUS saying, ” We don’t need Mexico either….because we don’t.
Regardless, any agreement with Mexico better include provisions to force them to manage their side of the border to prevent illegal crossings.

There are no Vermont Industries left. Paper Mills are closed, Tool Making Industry packed up and moved over seas, half the ski areas have closed since the 1980s, Hospitality Industry gone (my town was known for great restaurants, now there is one restaurant and three pizza joints, logging almost gone, no one comes up hunting and fishing anymore.
Everyone I knew has moved to the Carolinas. Only the flatlanders are left in their second homes. The Vermonters that haven’t moved can’t afford a first home on $10 an hour.
Local high school had an average class of over 300 in the 1980s, currently average class size is 75 in a town of 18,000 people. Very few people under retirement age left. Local hospital just closed birthing center as there weren’t enough births to keep it open. If you’re having a baby you have to go to NH or MA.
The lefts policies have destroyed Vermont. The place is dying. Pretty soon I’m going to have to go back and bury my parents and sell their house, as there is no way I’m living with the communist that are running the show up there now.

There’s a guy hopping through this video who froze the bank accounts of non criminal Canadians, banned millions from air travel, destroyed Canada’s cash cow energy sector and helped pay for a passport system that segregated Canadians from every day life.

My coworkers were mocking President Trump and the threat of additional tariffs this morning. It simply does not seem to be within their realm of comprehension that the U.S. might have legitimate grievances (economy, NATO, wildfires, etc) with Canada, or that the U.S. basically holds all the cards in this situation, or how much Canada has benefitted from American sufferance over the decades.
I feel some degree of sympathy for these people because they’re not, to the best of my knowledge, truly malicious (just intellectually lazy and gas-lit by Ottawa), but they need a severe wake-up call.
