“U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) completed a third round of strikes this week against Iran, July 11, holding Iranian forces accountable for attacking another commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. forces hit approximately 140 Iranian military targets with precision munitions launched by land- and sea-based fighter aircraft, drones, and naval vessels. Targets included Iranian missile and drone sites, naval capabilities, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks, and coastal surveillance locations.

During three nights of strikes this week, CENTCOM has struck more than 300 targets at the direction of the Commander in Chief to degrade Iran’s ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels freely transiting the strait. Commercial vessel transits through the vital international maritime corridor continue.

Since early May, U.S. forces have helped facilitate the successful transit of more than 800 commercial vessels and 400 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz.“

This post about Ted Cruz chairing the Senate Rules Committee on Monday (in the absence of Mitch McConnell) has been going around and I’m not sure where this guy gets this information.

My understanding is that if Mitch doesn’t show up for the meeting then the next senior member would chair the committee.
In the chairman’s absence, the ranking majority member present at the meeting typically presides as the acting chair for that specific session.

That member presiding as acting chair would be John Boozman (R-AR).

The seniority order of the Republican members on the committee is as follows:

1) Mitch McConnell (KY) – Chair (Absent)
2) John Boozman (AR) – Most senior member present; would serve as Acting Chair
3) Deb Fischer (NE)
4) Roger Wicker (MS)
5) Shelley Moore Capito (WV)
6) Ted Cruz (TX)
7) Cindy Hyde-Smith (MS)
8) Bill Hagerty (TN)
9) Katie Britt (AL)

For Ted Cruz to chair the meeting, Boozman, Fischer, Wicker, Capito, and Hyde-Smith would all have to be absent.

Have I overlooked something?
