U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra appears for an interview on CBC News to share perspectives on U.S-Canada relations. However, what happens within the interview is a case study on how Canadian media represent an extension of the Canadian government.
This example is exactly why the Canadian people have no reference point for information counter to the official propaganda policy from their government offices. Rebecca Zandbergen, host of CBC’s Ottawa Morning represents the voice of government in combative tone, condescending attitude and refusal to accept counter arguments.
The level of passive-aggressive condescension highlights why Canada has continued to lose position in a world where pretending has become devalued. However, it’s clear why the Canadian people will be stunned when it all collapses around them. They have no reference points. Ambassador Hoekstra should get hazard pay. WATCH (prompted):
I like how Hoekstra reminds Rebecca Zandbergen that the 51st state issue surfaced as an outcome of a discussion between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Trump in Mar-a-Lago that centered around NATO spending and reciprocity in trade via non-tariff barriers. The points Ambassador Hoekstra makes at the end of this interview are exactly on point, and yet Zandbergen pretends not to understand them.
The American govt is not running anti-Carney advertising in Canada. Americans are not banning Canadian products. The American Government is not telling Americans not to travel to Canada. The American govt has not banned Canadian companies from bidding on contracts. These are all actions taken by the Canadian government.

This woman brought no facts to the interview. When told that the US tariffs were legal and justified under USMCA, she had nothing to come back to the Ambassador with. Nothing to come back to him regarding Canada taking US products off the shelves. Or the government telling people not to visit. And she was genuinely shocked when she was told that yes, the US could find the oil it needed somewhere else in the world. She was all about Orange Man Bad, and sob, sob, you hurt our feelings!!! If the interview is about a trade deal, bring your facts to the party, not your feelings.
Feelings are all they have. No facts, no reason, no logic, no game plan, nothing to lose!
Who needs that new bridge in Detroit. Canada will no longer be able to off-load Chinese s—t that they buy and re-sell to US consumers to make money to pay for their socialist /communist programmes. Erect a fence at the center and build condos with views on either side.
We used to dine at 99 Pillette Avenue in Windsor until they enacted at 25% VAT tax in the 1980s. Everyone stopped dining out and the restaurant sector collapsed. All that is left is crappy Indian restaurants serving what no Western person wants.
I expect rebecca has a collection of the infamous justin and mark “Im Potent” t-shirts.
“These are all actions taken by the Canadian government.”
Living in WNY and listening a lot to a Toronto radio station, I hear this daily.

The Ontario guvment runs an ad puffing itself up about how much they are doing to support and protect the province, including “cutting regulations” and fast tracking new nuclear power plants.
They’re just waiting till trump is neutralized or gone
WHEN the organization ” LIVES ” on the government dime, ( btw i LOVE the Bluenose Schooner ), YOU SPEAK FOR The Government.
