It was no accident, and as he was emplaced by the establishment into the Vice-President slot on the 1900 ticket, in time for McKinley’s 1901 assassination, I’m sure there was no panic. He was to McKinley, what HW Bush was to Reagan, the person to be controlled, to replace the one who couldn’t.
That is not to say that Teddy didn’t do some great things for America, but McKinley was the Trump of the turn of the century, and would have led the United States on a path that would have delayed or prevented the disaster of 1913, and the entry of the US into WWI, whereas Teddy facilitated it.

Someone knows of a person that has year 1900 family photo (15-20 people)
that includes Mr. Roosevelt in the group.
Cameras were not very common at the time.
I wonder if the library would be interested in a copy?

Teddy Roosevelt was another who accidentally became president and caused the establishment to panic.
