Chief Justice John Roberts delivered the opinion of the Court, and SOTOMAYOR, KAGAN, KAVANAUGH and JACKSON concurred.
Justice Clarence Thomas filed a dissenting opinion. ALITO filed a dissenting opinion, in which GORSUCH joined, and BARRETT also filed a dissenting opinion.
This is a rather goofball decision when you consider the previous issues with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the high court prior ruling that President Trump can remove the head of the agency.
Additionally, if Lisa Cook does not work for the President of the United States, meaning if she doesn’t work for the Executive Branch, then who exactly is she working for? She doesn’t work for the legislative branch, and she doesn’t work for the judicial branch. Therefore, a de facto mysterious 4th branch of government is created.

If the Federal Reserve Board of Governors are not subject to the plenary power of the executive branch, then who controls it? If no one, then the Federal Reserve Board (FED) exists to control the American economy without any oversight from any mechanism within the U.S. Constitution.

SCOTUS is saying Congress needs to change the statute and the President needs to sign into law a mechanism by which a FED member can be fired.

Actually the court said she can be fired if it’s for cause and sent it back to the lower court to determine if the firing was for cause and that she can remain until the lower court would rule against her.
It seems simple enough to me, any federal employee that defrauds or tries to defaud the government has given sufficient cause to be fired. That is a totally non partisan statement.
Obviously I don’t trust the lower court to be non partisan as we wouldn’t be here if they weren’t partisan. Basically the Supreme Court punted on this issue.
To me every federal appointee should be an at will employee and should be able to be removed at any time for any reason. That would be a great incentive to do a good job and to not bring partisan politics to the job like Mr. Powell has done.

So Roberts thinks “our Nation’s tradition of central banking protected from political interference” is what’s at stake here? So now some undefined or ill-defined “tradition” trumps the Constitution? A bit OT, but this reminds me that the U.K. did not have a “supreme court” until … wait for it … Tony Blair pushed to create one.
The U.K. legal system was the basis for ours yet it had some substantial differences that worked for their style of limited (controlled) Monarchy.
